AN: This is an odd thing I came up with half asleep. I thought of a Shandy story Fallout lore based. With Sandy being the Vaults doctor, Static being her apprentice, Randy being the main Vault mechanic / care taker, and Shadow being someone from the wasteland coming across the vault and talking them into letting him in. But then I decided to get real weird. I wondered if I could write them as the opposite gender, besides Randy, still them but will the other gender traits overall. Thought, I'd give it a go!
Sandy sat at the chair behind his main desk in the medical room. Things in the vault had been going quite well lately as far as everyone's overall health, but he couldn't help but keep looking over his inventory logs. If things kept going as well as they had the last year, their main supply of basic medical supplies would last 5 years, but only 2 to 3 years for the more pressing randomly needed emergency equipment. The Vault Overseer liked to keep up talk to everyone that their food and water supply could go on another 10 to 15 years before forcing everyone out to find a home in the wasteland. However, he conveniently left out that the food supply wouldn't mean much if everyone ended up being wiped out by a bad cause of the flu, as the remaining 32 individuals were living in very close quarters.
The Squirrel doctor had tried to get the Overseer to send out another team to scavenge up supplies but he'd refused every time. Doctor Cheeks couldn't really blame the elder man as this vault, 2020, had sent out 18 different scout teams in the last 127 years, and none of them had ever returned.
This issue of dwindling supplies had bothered Sandy since he took over the medical lead from his mother, three years prior, but as time keep counting down, he found himself becoming more and more obsessed with the Vaults sustainability. Of the 32 people living in the Vault 10 were elderly and 7 were below the age of 14. If worse came to worse he wasn't sure, despite of those well trained in combat that were working age individuals, that the 15 of them could fight to protect the others in the waste… let alone themselves. Training by sparing and self exercises is nothing compared to the real thing.
Sandy closed his eyes and rubbed his temples trying his hardest to meditate, that was before his young apprentice walked up to his desk and called his name overly exaggerating her concern. He opened his eyes and looked at the young lady of 16, who just so happened to be the Overseers daughter. She too was a squirrel, but instead of Sandy's Brown and lighter brown fur pattern, she displayed vibrant purple fur, long blonde hair, and a few blonde lighting patches over her torso, that Sandy found himself very embarrassed at seeing as she just so happened to accidently lift her shirt to adjust her bra right when he was re-entering a room.
"Are you alright?" Static asked as she placed the palm of her hands on his desk and leaned over towards him pressing her chest out.
Sandy was more than use to this type of attentions seeking action as ever since Static became his apprentice, two years ago, the girl had been flirting with him daily. He'd be lying if he didn't acknowledge that she was a very beautiful young lady, but she was still only 16, and far too young for a man, her superior, of 21 years of age.
Sandy opened his eyes and gave her an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry young lady, I didn't mean ta worry ya." Sandy noticed Statics grimace at him calling her "young lady" as it had become his way of telling her he wasn't interested. The male doctor looked down at the paperwork below him and sighed. "I'm just getting all worked up over this here bean counting." He then looked back up to his young ward and smiled with a new found happiness, causing her to now smile back at him. "But we shall prevail!" He then leaned back in his chair as he threw the papers aimlessly onto his desktop. "How are ya coming along with da bloodwork tests from last week?"
Static pulled back and stood up straight in front of her mentor's desk. She continued to smile, even if it were in a dreamy fashion, but he could very well tell she was quite proud of herself as well. "I just got done! What would you like me to do for you now, doctor?" She smiled slightly.
Sandy cringed inside. "Why can't this girl take a hint?!". He was grateful for her help, and even had hopes of her becoming a good doctor/surgeon like him, but he was becoming more and more worried about her infatuation with him. Before she became his apprentice, she'd come and ask for his help studying, which he was glad to do, as he loved to learn and helping others learn was almost an even bigger thrill. At first, he though she was kissing his ass or being overly polite, but once she was finally under his charge did, she expand on her methods of appeasing him… He never found himself tempted by her, but only very uncomfortable. He tried his best to be polite in declining her with not outright doing so, but it was getting to the point where it interfered with work, and that was always a hard drawn line for him. He'd even stopped talking to his twin brother, Randy, during work because of such trouble unless it had to do with the Vaults wellbeing.
Sandy Smiled at the girl before him. "I know this ain't real technical work, but it is still important work." He then cleared his throat. "I need ya to go the quarters of our older community members and remind 'em if they have appointments soon. We don't just repair people… we care about 'em too!" Sandy smiled at Static who nodded her head in somewhat disappointment of her current given task.
She smiled once more and then turned around to carry out his given task. Right as Static left Randy walked in, but his focus seemed to follow Static as he continued to walk to his twin brother's desk.
"Randy!" Sandy yelled at him in anger causing his larger twin brother to finally look at him and give a cocky grin.
"What?" Randy laughed as he took at seat across from his barely older, but much smaller, brother.
"Keep it in yer pants, she's just a girl." He scolded looking at Randy sternly waiting for his brother to state why he came to bother him during work hours.
"Barely a girl anymore, but I get ya!" Randy continued to grin as he took a seat in front of his brother's desk. "I ain't looking fer trouble with the Overseer, dumbass. But she sure is…" Randy laughed again as he kicked his boots up on the other man's desk.
"Maybe instead of being a creep you should get back to keeping up what is left of our Vault." Standy hissed under his breath as he opened his desk and took out a few file folders that his placed on his desk in front of him.
"Are ya sure ya want me ta do that, or would ya rather me tell ya what I happed ta see on the radar we ain't supposta see? And only just a few miles from our main door?" Randy took his feet off his brother's desk and leaned towards him, happy to see his brother lose all traces of his past anger and take great interest in the larger male squirrel's words.
"What?" Sandy asked almost whispering with honest fascination.
"Not really what…" Randy's grin turned taunting. "But more like who?"
