This is a fan-fiction obviously, I intend to stay very close to canon as that is part of what makes this enjoyable. Gohan and Trunks become another person, so he will have a different personality than either of them. Enjoy a gritty story, with blood, death, sex (not explicit), foul language and the like- the stuff that superheroes would actually be like. Bear with me on the DC frontier, still learning about the different storylines. Please read, review and enjoy. This is fun, so it should be fun!
Trunks sat in his broken living room, grabbing his forehead and sobbing as he stared at the rectangular frame across from him. Encapsulated inside the wooden frame was a moment in time, a second that chilled his bones. This image was all that remained of his mentor Gohan, the two of them sharing a rare smile. That, and the training Gohan imparted on him. Today was Gohan's birthday, a holiday that became haunting to Trunks. The day he failed to rescue his mentor from an untimely end at the hands of the Androids.
An explosion rocked the surface above him, shaking his mother's underground tunnel. In a small group of surviving humans, he could only rely on his mother for companionship as the Androids blasted the world above. They hunted everyone that remained alive. Trunks was wrecked by his powerlessness to stop them despite being the most powerful living person. They destroyed Gohan and if he stood before them, he'd fall too. There was only one chance to save this world, a chance his mother was devoting all of her time to in the other room.
There was a clutter and a bang as tools dropped from the sky and clanked against the hard cement floor.
"Trunks, honey, come help!"
Trunks stood, wiping his tears and walked into the other room, grabbing a hammer and a splicer off the floor and floating up to his mother. Bulma smiled with her blue hair tied back in a ponytail and wiped grease from her face.
"How's it going mom?"
"I'm almost done, soon you should be able to travel back in time and save Goku from his death, hopefully preventing this whole painful reality." Before Trunks could respond to his mother and her desperate plan, there was an abrupt knock on the front door. Bulma whipped her head in terror and Trunks sprinted to the front room, removing his sword from its sheath. He stood behind the door clutching the hilt tightly. Their home was buried underground and hidden in a passageway, there was no way anyone should have found them. His heart digging its way through his chest.
It's the Androids, I know it-he thought.
But polite knocking wasn't their style, they'd blow the door down if they found the last remaining challenger to their supremacy. He breathed deeply as Bulma hid behind the large yellow pod, their time machine. He reached out to the knob and opened the door slowly. The sight sent his blade clattering to the floor and his jaw dropping. Before him stood his mentor Gohan, not a day older than when he died. A wicked scar on his right eye and a missing arm, it was definitely his Gohan.
Trunks leapt forward and hugged him deeply, tears starting to drop from his eyes.
"Gohan! I can't believe it's really you! How are you even here?" Trunks shouted. But he didn't notice the two beings that filled the hallway. One of them cleared his throat loudly and Trunks shifted his gaze to them. One was short with emerald green skin and spiky white hair, the other was much taller and wider with pink skin and a wrinkled face. They both wore loose fitting gi's but there was a certain regality that emanated from them. And not only their clothes, but their aura was pouring with divinity. Trunks sensed out for their Ki, but could feel nothing. It was as if they weren't there, or rather they were not alive.
"Who are you?" Trunks asked.
"Good morning, sorry to interrupt your day, but I am the Supreme Kai. Kai of this entire universe and this is my attendant Kibito. Please allow us to come in, we need to speak to you both, Trunks and Bulma."
"Trunks, you need to hear what they have to say," Gohan added.
"Gohan, how are you even alive? I saw your body, you were dead."
"I'm not," Gohan pointed above his head to the golden, floating ring. "I'm truly dead, but the Supreme Kai brought me with him. He figured you would be more receptive if I was with him."
"Yes, thank you Gohan. Trunks, I need to have a word with both you and your mother, it is urgent, so much so that the fate of the entire galaxy is dependent on it."
The five people sat down and drank tea that Bulma put on, as the explosions rocked above and shook the overhead lamp.
"It's an honor to have you in our home, it truly is Supreme Kai. But what are you even doing here?" Bulma asked. "Oh and since you're a Kai and everything, why don't you kill the androids on your way out. Thanks." She folded her legs across her body and Trunks glanced over with a grin. His mother didn't back down, she spoke her mind to every one and apparently gods were included in that.
"Yes, let's get down to it shall we? I know what that machine you're building is Bulma. It's a time machine. Your plan is to return to the past and save Goku's life, preventing the Androids from ever taking hold of the planet and creating this reality we currently are in," the Supreme Kai sipped his tea.
"How could you possibly know that?" Trunks asked.
"This is the Supreme Kai you're speaking to, mortal! Speak with respect," Kibito barked.
"Kibito, calm down. Such anger is unnecessary. Simply put, Bulma and Trunks, I cannot allow you to travel back in time, your arrival in the past sets about a chain of events that ultimately leads to Majin Buu's resurrection on Earth and the destruction of the entire galaxy."
Trunks froze and Bulma dropped her teacup to the ground, it shattered and broke. Trunks frowned, leaning forward. "So let me get this straight, just so I understand. You would allow Earth to remain broken and dying by the Androids rather than allowing us to figure out a way to defeat this Majin Buu? According to my mother, we can accomplish anything with Goku's help."
"The Androids cannot leave Earth, they are a threat to no one else except this planet. Buu is a universal threat and more than capable of destroying entire galaxies, his power is on another level. This is a matter of literally trillions of lives."
"Can't Goku defeat Majin Buu? He always wins," Bulma said.
"Goku must die, it needs to be permanent. Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Krillin and everyone else of the Z-Fighters has to perish, I'm sorry but it is reality. Goku's survival in another timeline is the catalyst for Buu's rebirth."
"I don't accept that, I won't accept that." Trunks stood up and balled his fists.
"I have Beerus, the Destroyer God ready to destroy this planet if you don't stand down Trunks." Trunks whipped his head over to Gohan. The elder Saiyan nodded and touched Trunks's shoulder.
"Sit down Trunks, and listen to his proposal." Trunks looked around the room and saw his mother's eyes imploring him to sit and listen. He put himself back in the chair.
"Goku's death saves the lives of trillions and countless planets. In the future, he fights Majin Buu with the help of Vegeta and the being they create together is called Vegito, a fusion of the two saiyans. They have Buu on the ropes and rather than allow himself to be defeated, the monster destroys Earth, killing Vegito. Buu's regeneration powers are too magnificent and he returns and spreads across the galaxy blowing up any planet that he sees. Even after Lord Beerus steps in and erases Buu, the dragonballs have been wiped out and there's no way to bring those lives back. I'm sorry Trunks, but this world you know must exist."
Trunks fought back tears of frustration. It was like staring into a black hole, his mother's machine had been the only thing keeping him going and now someone was taking that hope away as well. It was too much to bear. He gritted his teeth together and his knuckles turned white.
"However, I will offer you an escape. A world free from this pain. There is a parallel Universe to this one. Universe 6, they have an Earth similar to yours. An Earth that will be destroyed in a few years unless you and Gohan can prevent that destruction. I will send the both of you, and Bulma there to live out your days."
Trunks looked up, his eyebrows lifting. Another universe, did such a thing truly exist? Was it possible?
"What? I don't understand," Bulma said. "If that Earth is going to be destroyed then why would we go there? Seems like you're not helping the way you think."
"Trunks and Gohan are powerful enough to join forces with those living humans to prevent that destruction. This is your only out," the Supreme Kai finished. "It is either this, or I destroy the planet with you on it. I know alot of you Bulma Briefs, you are not going to stop building that machine. I unfortunately cannot trust you to remain here without causing trouble."
"Trunks, we have to take this," Gohan said. "I've already spoken with my father and mother's spirit in the Other World, they understand. It's okay."
"How will you do it?" Trunks asked.
"It will be simple and painless, I will take you into space and my opposite shall receive you and teleport you to Earth," Supreme Kai said. "Oh and there's one other thing."
"What is it?"
"Well, Gohan's dead and cannot make the trip across universes. His spirit would remain here."
"The dragon balls are gone, how would we resurrect him?" Bulma cut in.
"I could, remember I am a god. But I won't be. Separate, Trunks and Gohan aren't powerful enough to stop the impending doom. You remember what I mentioned about your fathers?" The Supreme Kai turned back to Trunks.
"Goku and Vegeta fused themselves into being named Vegito, a combination of themselves that massively amplified their powers. A completely new person, with qualities of both men but entirely his own. Vegito for a brief moment in his existence was the most powerful being in our universe except the Destroyer God Beerus. You and Gohan would repeat your father's actions, and join together as one." Trunks froze in his seat, he shifted awkwardly and looked over to Gohan. His mentor's eyes were stone, he'd already known this was the only possible solution.
"Can we unfuse once we get over to the other side?" Trunks asked.
"No, unlike your fathers' this fusion would be permanent. Gohan is dead, and he must be permanently fused to you or he would die again. And death over there is permanent, there are no dragon balls on that Earth. Also, like I said, your power is not enough alone, it must have the amplified power of a fused Saiyan," Supreme Kai said. "You'll cease to be Trunks and he will cease to be Gohan, you'll become one new person. Your consciousnesses will meld into one."
"It's completely up to you Trunks, you'd be the one sacrificing here. I understand if you don't want to, I'm fine in Other World. I truly am," Gohan stood and touched Trunks's shoulder.
"Is there no other way," Bulma spoke, her voice breaking.
"Afraid not, it's either you and Trunks go alone and die within a few years as Earth-6 gets destroyed. Or Trunks and Gohan fuse, then you have a chance to stop the end of that world. Either way, you will not be allowed to go back in the past."
Kibito stood up and raised his palm, an explosion of bright orange light erupted from his fingertips and soared through Bulma's underground home. It ripped through the yellow pod and with crashing of steel and explosions, the time machine crumbled to pieces.
"No!" Bulma cried out. "You idiot, do you know how long and how hard I worked on that?!"
"Mortal woman, we are not about to risk your disobedience," he sniped back.
Bulma rose and stared at him face to face, obscenities flying from her lips. She was silenced by the quiet words that left her son's lips.
"I'll do it," he said.
"What?"
"I said I'll do it mom. I'll fuse with Gohan, if it's truly the only way."
"Are you sure, Trunks? There is no turning back," Supreme Kai said.
"I'm positive," he stood. "It's the only way I can save my mother. It's the only way I can save my mentor. I'll do it!"
"We'll, uh, give you a moment," Supreme Kai said. "Emotion is big in humans. Come on everyone," Supreme Kai led everyone through the hallway.
Trunks pressed himself against his mother and wrapped his arms around her. Wet drops fell against his chest and he glanced down at the top of her head, blue hair frazzled. So many wrinkles that hadn't been there before decorated her face now, stress from all the hell they'd been through.
"Mother I will miss you, thank you for everything," Trunks whispered, a tear dropped from his eyelid.
"You'll still be my son, and I will always call you that," Bulma cried back.
They broke off from one another and the Supreme Kai, Kibito, and Gohan all returned to the hallway. Bulma stepped up to Gohan and rubbed his cheek motherly.
"I'll miss you too Gohan," she said.
He smiled, "I'll be right here."
Supreme Kai reached up to his ear and plucked off an earring, he then nodded for Kibito to do the same. Kibito handed his earring to Gohan and Supreme Kai tossed his to Trunks.
"All you have to do is place the earring in your ear and the Potara will do the rest," Kibito said.
Gohan looked across to Trunks and nodded to him, they put their earrings up to their ears and punctured the cartilage. In an instant, a bright light enveloped the home. Trunks and Gohan were no more.
"Whoa, fucking shit," the new saiyan laughed. "Someone hand me a mirror."
Bulma was standing before him with her eyes wide in shock and possibly fear. The two Kais stood before him, impressed and the big one seemed concerned.
"Mother," the Saiyan said. "That's right, I once called you mother. The Saiyan who was your son is no more, yet, you are precious to me. I am neither Trunks or Gohan. You may call me Gotank. Someone hand me a mirror."
Bulma jogged to the bathroom and returned with a handheld mirror, passing it to Gotank. He glanced at himself in it. His hair was long and wavy, the back of it was deep black like Gohan's and the front was purple like Trunks'. The Potara earrings flashed in the lamp attached to the ceiling. He was still wearing Trunks' Capsule Corps jacket, but it was bigger and it was black. It needed to be bigger, Gotank had much more muscle than the teenage Saiyan. Their face was a combination of the two: Gohan's features, Trunks' eyes. Gotank stepped back from the mirror, "He's a fucking looker."
He threw his fists forward, flying with immense speed. Kibito eyes bulged and the look of concern spread across him more, he couldn't track the punches.
"Excellent," Supreme Kai said. "Not let us be on our way, Bulma and Gotank please grab a bag of any belongings you wish to bring with you. You will not be returning to this universe."
"Before we leave," Gotank said. "Do I have time to find and kill the Androids?"
"I'll give you ten minutes," Supreme Kai said.
"I only need two," Gotank laughed.
Gotank dashed across the broken landscape. Beneath him buildings crumbled and fell at the slightest gust of wind. East City had become a graveyard of broken bodies and crushed dreams. The stench of death pierced his nose floating to the skies. Fire and smoke burned, the land a ruin of a once great city. Now it looked like a child's room after they were done playing with toys, everything scattered and broken.
The Androids could not be sensed, they were robotic and did not possess Ki. But that didn't matter, Gotank was definitely going to find them today. He stopped his flight and settled over the ruined city. He inhaled a deep breath into his lungs, the sound of car alarms and falling stones was all that could be heard.
"18! Come out here. Come out here and find me, I'll fuck you in all three holes you bitch!" Gotank yelled. His voice boomed over everything else. He smiled and waited.
It didn't take long before two figures floated up to the sky, one wearing a skirt and another wearing jeans. One with a black shirt and an orange bandana, black hair and a handsome smile. The other with blonde hair and brown boots, a devilish grin. Androids 17 and 18, the source of all misery in this world.
"Who the hell are you?" Android 18 asked.
"I'm your worst fucking nightmare," Gotank replied. "A Saiyan who wants you dead."
"We've killed everyone, so what you can fly. You just called for your death kid," 17 said.
"I'm killing you first," Gotank pointed at the black haired one.
In a flash both Androids charged at Gotank. 17 on the right and 18 on his left. They punched at him, their fists stopped cold in Gotank's palms. He squeezed tight, crushing the bolts and gears inside their hands. 17 threw a ki beam into Gotank's ribs and backed away, his sister followed suit. Gotank didn't move, he only smiled and winked as the two Androids grasped their hands in shock.
"Is that fear? Robots don't fear, do they," Gotank asked. "No, not the robots who have killed everyone in this world including Trunks' father and one half of me. No you don't know fear." Gotank flashed, drove his fist right into 17's ribcage and the former human shot like a cannonball to the ground below. A building collapsed in his wake. In another quick move Gotank, grabbed 18 by her hair and flung her down to join her brother in the remains of East City.
"You don't know fear," Gotank barked. "You fucking will!" He roared. Power shot from his form and reverberated against the Earth. The sky shook, the mountains crumbled, the sea washed against the shore, battering it. Golden aura flashed around him and enveloped him, his hair stood on end and shone like buried treasure. Gotank's eyes flashed green and he smiled, the Androids were shaking. Just like they'd made so many thousands tremble in fear.
