A/N I have seen many fanfictions about Aragorn or Legolas having nightmares, and one comforting the other. So I thought it would be fun to write one where they help each other. I know that Aragorn's mother didn't die at the same time his father did, but I changed that little detail to make for better drama. So if you don't mind that, read on!

Chapter One

Legolas walked alongside Elladan and Elrohir, the twin sons of Lord Elrond, as they neared Imladris. When their paths had crossed in the forest, they had seen how exhausted he was and had convinced him to come home with them for a restful visit. But now that they were getting closer, he was regretting that decision. The twins had just told him about the orphaned human child that their father had taken in. They hadn't given much more information than that, but Legolas was already beginning to feel his panic rise. Tiny humans grew into adult humans that did cruel things to elves and other creatures. What would happen to his friends and their father? To everyone who lived in Imladris. His mind raced with thoughts his common sense told him were irrational but still overwhelmed him with fear.

"Legolas?" The concern in Elladan's voice told him that his friend must have been trying to get his attention for some time.

He shook his head, "I'm sorry, 'Elladan, what were you saying?"

"I was just asking if there was anything else was wrong. But I think you already answered that question. So instead, I'll ask, WHAT is wrong?"

"It's nothing, Mellon nin! Nothing some of the rest you suggested won't cure."

Elrohir spoke up from his other side, "But you seemed disturbed when we told you about Estel! Is there something about him that bothers you?"

"Of course not!" Legolas lied, "Why would hearing about an Edan that your father has adopted and that you now call your 'little brother' make a difference to me?"

Both twins' eyebrows shot up, and it appeared they suspected he was lying. But before any of them could comment further, they came into the courtyard of the house of Elrond. Both dark-haired elves removed their weapons and visibly relaxed.

Suddenly, a blur of white and blue appeared from near the house and raced toward the twins. "Dan! Ro!" It squealed. Legolas bit his lip. Would he already be assaulted by the human?

Elrohir bent down and scooped the bundle of human up in his arms, crushing him to his chest. Planting a kiss on the dimpled cheek, he looked at his little brother and asked, "Well, Tithen Pen, did you manage to keep out of trouble while we were gone?"

The human curled his pudgy arms around the elf's neck and giggled, "Of course I did!"

Elrohir gave a mock frown and asked, "Would Ada agree?"

Estel cocked his head and whispered, "I THINK so!"

"Good!" Then he turned to his twin, "Here, catch!"

The human gave a delighted squeal as he was tossed through the air. Elladan caught him and held him close, rubbing his nose up against his brother's tiny one. Once again, the pudgy arms curled around the elf's neck as Estel snuggled into his chest. "I missed you!"

"I missed you too, Penneth!"

Legolas watched the entire scene. Hating the way the panic flared up in his chest. Seeing the tiny human arms wrapped around his friends' necks brought back too many dark visions of much stronger and less chubby human arms wrapping around an elven neck, cutting off the airflow of his now dead friend. The tiny nose rubbing against Elledan's brought back the feeling of having a human head smash against his or punches finding their mark on his face.

"Legolas!" Once again, the sound of his name jarred him out of his dangerous reverie. Looking up, he saw that Elladan had approached him, still cuddling his little brother close.

Legolas pushed down his panic and answered his friend. "I'm sorry, Elladan! My mind wandered again. What did you say?"

"Estel was just wondering who was with us. And I was trying to introduce you."

Legolas looked down at the tiny boy and forced himself to smile. "Hello, penneth! I can see you have your brothers wrapped around your fingers!"

The human smiled shyly as he burrowed closer against his brother. But as Elladan carried him toward the house, he poked his head over the dark-haired elf's shoulder and peered at Legolas with some of the most vivid blue eyes the elf had ever seen. As soon as Legolas looked back at him, he giggled and ducked away again. A few moments later, he repeated his actions. This time with a whispered, "BOO!"

Elrohir stepped up beside Legolas and spoke so quietly that only elf ears could hear, "He likes you. He's typically even shyer with strangers. But considering all that's happened to him, that's hardly a surprise. Poor child!"

As much as he wanted to, Legolas decided that now wasn't the time to press for more information.
