Summer Love II

Chapter 1: The Arrival

It was a beautiful, sunny day in the town known as Hillwood and not just any day either.

It's the first day of Spring Break and everyone, especially the students of PS 118 were excited for the vacation away from books and teachers. Especially a young boy who was currently bringing his luggage to an old Packard, where his grandfather and parents were doing the same.

"Boy, this is gonna be great. I can't wait to get to the beach..."Arnold said after putting his suitcase in the car.

"Us too, Sweetie..."His mother, Stella, said with a smile.

"This is gonna be great..."His father, Miles said, just as eager to get there.

Arnold smiled.

Just then, his grandparents and the boarders all got in the Packard but since there are more people this time, Arnold decided to go with his parents in their car.

Once inside, he and his folks began talking. They are all excited since this is the first Spring Break since his parents came back and they wanted to do everything together...

Though there is ANOTHER reason why he is excited for this trip.

A special reason...

They just had to go pick her up first.

Elsewhere

A young blonde girl was waiting outside a cheap apartment building, tapping her foot impatiently.

"Where is he? He said to be ready by seven..."She muttered as she looked at her watch.

No sooner than she said that, a car pulled up and inside was a certain football-headed kid and his parents.

"Hey, Helga..."Arnold said as he got out.

The girl is happy to see him but acted aloof.

"And just where have you been, Arnoldo? You were suppose to pick me up at seven sharp..."She said, sounding impatient but Arnold knew she didn't mean it.

"But Helga, it's only 7:01..."Arnold pointed out after looking at his watch.

"No excuse..."She said before she scoffed. "Whatever, let's just get to this beach..."She said as she went inside, acting like she could care less.

Arnold saw this and had an amused look on his face, since he knew that his girlfriend really wanted to go.

Yes, he said girlfriend.

Arnold Shortman and Helga G. Pataki are dating. They have been together since last summer, during a trip to San Lorenzo and this is the first Spring Break they have together as a couple.

Due to Helga's family...having financial problems, she couldn't afford to go anywhere this year but Arnold and his parents had offered to let her come. It took a while for Arnold parents to convince her parents to let her come on the trip but Big Bob finally agreed since there would be plenty of adults...though, he did tell his daughter to try and sell some beepers to "the locals" the first chance she gets.

Anyway, she is now in the car and Arnold's parents smiled at her.

"Hi, Helga..."Stella said.

"Good morning..."Miles said with a smile.

"Hi Miles...Hi Stella..."Helga said in a surprisingly pleasant tone.

She liked Arnold's parents, they were one of the few adults she ever truly tried to be respectful around and they, in turn, liked her too.

Anyway, Arnold soon re-entered the car and the four soon followed after Grandpa Phil's Packard.

"So, Helga...how was school this week?..."Stella asked.

"A pain. It felt like this week would never end..."Helga said in her usual way.

"I know the feeling. I used to look forward to Spring Break as a kid..."Miles said as he drove.

"Me too...I haven't been to a beach in so long...it's suppose to be a great place for fun...and passion..."Stella said in a hinting voice.

This caused Arnold and Helga to blush and look sheepish.

"Mom...dad..."Arnold said embarrassed as his folks chuckled.

"Come on, you two. We're just teasing..."Miles said and the two pre-teens began to calm down. "Besides, maybe this beach vacation will be good to you..."He said with a wink, embarrassing the two again.

"Dad!..."Arnold said as his parents chuckled again.

"Criminy..."Helga muttered as the awkward car ride continued.

Later

At the beach

They had just arrived arrived to a familiar duplex, the same one they had used back when Arnold and Helga were in the fourth grade.

As always, Phil was the first one out and took a breath of fresh air.

"Ah, there she is. The old duplex house by the beach..."Phil said as his family, the boarders and his grandson's girlfriend came out of the cars.

"It's a beaut, huh, Stella?..."Miles said to his wife, who nodded.

They all went inside to leave their luggage and pick their rooms. Once that was done, everyone put on their bathing suits and then went to discuss their plans for the day.

Grandma Gertie was also with her surf gear and had a grin on her face.

"Later, dudes. I'm gonna hang ten and shoot the tunnel..."Gertie said as she carried her board.

"Okay, Mom. Just be back by lunch..."Miles said as his mother left to go hit the waves.

"Well, we're off to the beach..."Ernie said, just wanting to get a tan since he already has a beauty named Lola back in Hillwood.

"Yes, to go mingle and have fun. Want to join us, Grandpa?..."My. Hyunh asked but the old man shook his head.

"No thanks. I'm heading in the opposite direction of you clowns. I don't even want to see the people I already know. I want to get as far away from civilization, shopping malls and commerciality as possible..."Phil said dramatically after walking out of his room.

"Just be careful, grandpa. Remember what happened last time we were here?..."Arnold said and Phil waved it off.

"Hey, how was I suppose to know those ducks weren't my ancestors?..."Phil said, causing Helga and Arnold's parents to raise a brow at that.

Arnold sighed.

"Don't ask..."He said and his parents just chalked it up as another Phil-based shenanigan that they were already used to.

"So long, civilization! Peace and solitude, here I come..."Phil said as he walked off.

"What about you two, wanna join us?..."Ernie offered to Miles and Stella.

"Thank you Ernie but I think we'll have to take a rain-check on that..."Stella said as she took Miles arm.

Ernie understood and nodded. However, Oskar, being an opportunist, spoke up next.

"Hey, you guys. Can I come?..."He said, since he secretly wanted to see if he can acquire another metal detector and maybe meet a beach beauty of his own.

Ernie and Mr. Hyunn shook their heads.

"No way. One, we're not lending you any money. And two, you just want to get another metal detector again. Am I right?..."Ernie said accusingly.

Ever since Suzie divorced him and moved out of the boarding house, Oskar had been asking for more money when he wasn't using the phone trying to call his ex-wife to take him back. They both wondered how he didn't get kicked out of the Boarding house yet but that's a question for another day.

As Oskar started complaining, Arnold and Helga ignored them and both were looking around the beach. Helga had a particular smile on her face.

"This place sure brings back memories, doesn't it Arnold?..."Helga said as she looked around.

Arnold smiled.

"It sure does..."He said as he remembered the last time they were here together.

It was in fourth grade, when they ended up renting the same duplex for Spring Break. A trip that involved love, tricks and deception... and ended with a rather...unforgettable moment when they ended up filming an episode of Babewatch.

Arnold blushed as he recalled that memory, before turning to his girlfriend. He held her hand. She noticed and smiled.

The two looked into each other's eyes and had smiles on their faces. They were about to lean in but all of a sudden, Arnold's parents called their attention.

"Come on you two, let's hit the beach..."Miles said, eager for some fun in the sun.

"Uh, okay dad..."Arnold said, a little flustered over but tried to recover.

"Did you two remember to put on some sunblock?..."Stella asked as she put her sunglasses on.

"Yes, Mom..."Arnold said and Helga nodded, hoping they didn't notice what they almost did.

"Great, now come on..."Miles said, excited as he lead the way.

Stella followed him while Arnold sighed. He noticed that his hand is still in Helga's.

He smiled as he looked at her. She smiled back.

"Shall we, Helga?..."Arnold said.

The blonde girl still smiled as she nodded.

"Lead the way, Arnold..."She said in a coy tone to her boyfriend.

The blonde couple soon left to go join his parents, eager to have a trip filled with beach fun and romance.
