Authors Notes:
This is my first oneshot for Vincent Van Ghoul and my first oneshot in general. I've been reading fanfics about The 13 Ghosts Of Scooby Doo for almost the past year now, mostly ones focusing on Vincent, so I was inspired to write one myself. Also, Vincent Van Ghoul is one of my favorite characters in the Scooby Doo franchise. The backstory for Vincent's ancestor comes from Curse Of The 13th Ghost, I just added the years and my headcanon that he was one of the first ancestors of the Van Ghoul family. Valentina Van Ghoul is one of my OC's. She's 3 years older than Vincent. Also, since Vincent was implied to be over 2,000 years old in the original 13 Ghosts series, I had him be born in 18 A.D., so that when he was 18 he would graduate from school in 36 A.D., because he said he graduated from school in 36, not 1936. The idea that Vincent locked himself away is inspired by the fact that in the first episode of 13GSD, when we first saw him, he was in his castle by himself, and he seemed to be very lonely. Yes, him being an actor is definitely a reference to Vincent Price, who he was modeled after and the man who voiced him in the original 13 Ghosts series. I know this fanfic is really sad, but I just always assumed that Vincent had a rough life, so I just decided to write about it. I'll be doing a rewrite of the ending of Curse Of The 13th Ghost on here soon, which will also be a oneshot.
Thank you for reading!
Vincent Van Ghoul, the most powerful warlock in the world, was locked away in his dark, and cold castle, all alone. As he had been for decades upon decades. He was looking outside the window of his study at a world he loved but did not treat him very well. He knew the world was cruel to him from the start, but he could never be cruel to the world.
But why was he locked away in his castle for so many years? Why did the world seem to hate him so much? Why was he alone?
It all started in the year 21 A.D. He was just a young child, just about 3 years old. At that age, his parents told him the legend of his ancestor, Asamad Van Ghoul. The story was that in the years between 960 B.C. and 955 B.C., Asamad was the most powerful warlock the world had ever seen. He was one of the first ancestors of the Van Ghoul family and the first person to take the last name "Van Ghoul." However, he eventually became corrupted with his powers, and used it for selfish reasons, bending humanity to his will, and demanding that all warlocks and mortals should obey him. His powers became lethal, and he became so dangerous that King Solomon himself had to capture him and 12 others, who were almost as powerful and evil as him, inside the ancient Chest Of Demons. It was said that in the chest, Asamad could no longer sustain his human form due to his dark magic growing so quickly. Which left him no choice but to turn into the monstrous King Of Demons, the 13th ghost, now known as Asmodeus.
Ever since that moment his parents told him the truth about his ancestor, Vincent was terrified. Terrified of his ancestor. Terrified of himself, because he believed he would be susceptible to the same fate. When he started school, everyone made fun of him because they knew he was descended from Asmodeus, but they were also afraid of him, because they knew Vincent was more powerful than anyone else on Earth. All the other warlocks and witches vowed to stay away from him, and they let him believe he was truly a monster just like his ancestor.
Mortals also heard about Vincent's powers and his relation to the 13th ghost, so they mocked him. They made up a plan to go to the castle and confront Vincent about it. But once they showed up to Vincent's castle, Vincent was angry with them, having heard what the mortals said about him, and he showed them what he could do with his magic. Which resulted in the mortals running away, cursing Vincent's name with fists to the sky.
As centuries passed, Vincent started to push himself away from people. Except his older sister Valentina Van Ghoul, and his closest friends Victor Voudini, Byron Befuddle, and Boris Kreepoff. They were the only ones that seemed to truly care for him. In 1935, he became a famous actor, appearing in a lot of horror films. Unfortunately in 1962, Valentina fell ill when she was exposed to an unknown disease that could kill any witch. After his sister's death, Vincent was heartbroken. He didn't leave his castle or talk to anyone, not even his 3 closest friends. He quit acting because he missed his sister so much, and from that day forward, he truly suffered alone.
After all he had been through, Vincent vowed to himself to avoid all mortals and warlocks. He pushed away the only people left in his life because he was afraid he inevitably hurt them.
He decided that someone like him should be locked away in his castle, where no mortal or warlock would dare to contact him. At times he hoped that someone would save him, but he knew that wouldn't happen.
And he waited, forever it seemed...
