A/N: This is and M-preg fic So if it's not your style then don't read this. There are graphic-ish mentions of injury.
Kurt scoffed at Dr. Goodwin's insane idea. There was a crazy snowstorm outside and the ambulances couldn't get to the hospital. So, Dr. Goodwin's solution is to bring the hospital to them. Kurt shook his head and walked to Dr. Goodwin.
"Dr. Goodwin, I think you have officially gone insane!" Kurt said in a cool, flat whisper. "You are risking the lives of doctors and nurses, and I sure will no way in hell I'm going out there and die of hypothermia."
He heard a chuckle, he swiftly turned around to see Dr. Castro rolling her eyes. "You'll be fine Hummel, you're cold as the snow outside anyway."
"Would you kindly fuck off Castro? And why are you here anyway? Last time I checked you were an oncologist."
"We were short of staff and Dr. Castro volunteered." Dr. Goodwin said as he barked orders. "Look Dr. Hummel, I know this is quite insane but we can save lives here. And you're one of the best surgeons we've got. Okay! Levy Park, we've got a man fallen down, Can't move, maybe unresponsive."
Kurt contemplated, and then he sighed. "I got it." Kurt said.
"Thank you, uhh, Dr. Fabray will go with you." Kurt turned around to see a blond woman standing there, shaking in nerves. He hasn't seen her before, but then again Kurt isn't one for socializing. He rolled his eyes and got a bag full of supplies and walked towards her. "You must be Dr. Fabray. I'm Dr. Hummel."
"I know who you are, I heard you operated on a billionaire when he needed a fatal surgery."
"Well I guess you did your research." Kurt said with a smirk. He slid his arm in the jacket sleeves that was being held by a nurse behind him. He shrugged the jacket higher and zipped it.
When they stepped outside, the cold air immediately greeted them. Kurt let out a shuddering breath. "Come on." Kurt said to Dr. Fabray. She nodded and followed him. They navigated through the thick snow that filled New York. When they arrived, there was nothing but blankets of snow. Kurt groaned in annoyance. "Can you see our guy?"
"I can barely see you." Came a response.
Dr. Fabray pointed. "What's that?" Kurt squinted to see a cloth buried in snow. Kurt's eyes widened "Oh god, that's him!" Kurt said and rushed towards the figure.
Kurt quickly crouched and began checking on the man. He took out his penlight and aimed it on the man's eyes. "Sir, I'm Dr. Kurt Hummel, this is Dr. Quinn Fabray. We're doctors from New Amsterdam" Kurt said as he checked on the man. When he was responsive he tried to ask the man the necessary questions. "Sir, What's your name?"
"Blaine, Blaine Anderson." He responded with cough.
"Okay Blaine. Can you tell me how you got here?"
"I was going to the hospital actually, but I guess I must have slipped or something, I don't remember." He said with a frown.
"Why were you going to the hospital?"
Blaine was about to respond when Quinn interrupted. "Uh, Dr. Hummel?"
"Not now Quinn."
"No, seriously, Kurt look." She pointed at the blanket of snow on Blaine's lower body. Kurt waited, his eyes widened when he saw a slight movement. Kurt immediately dug through the snow, getting his glove wet, but he didn't care.
He wasn't prepared for what he saw. There was an infant, it was pale as the snow, taking shallow breaths. Kurt got his stethoscope and placed it on the baby's chest. The heartbeat was weak, on the brink of death. "Shit, shit, shit!" Kurt was about to lift the baby when he saw it. The umbilical cord. Kurt's breath hitched.
"Quinn listen to me, I need you to cut the cord."
"What no! Why can't you do it?"
"I would but I'm holding a needle in Mr. Anderson's hand."
Quinn was shaking her head violently. "No, I can't do it, no."
"Quinn! For fuck sakes, if you don't cut the cord, this baby will die in 2 minutes!" He screamed at her.
"What?" A small voice came. Kurt turned and saw Blaine, his head was lifted a little, his eyes filled with tears. "She's gonna die?"
"I'm afraid she might if we don't get her warm as soon as possible. But we're trying our best, I can't assure you anything else." Blaine sobbed and Kurt's heart broke at the sound.
He turned to Quinn, she was crying and staring at the infant. "Quinn?"
"What if I messed this up?"
"It's just an umbilical cord!." Kurt snapped. She slowly nodded and took a deep breath. "Okay, I got this." She took the pair of scissors and gently cut the cord. "Okay good. Now I need you to listen to me again okay? I need you to get the warming blanket and wrap it around her, and I need you to get her to the hospital and bring her to the NICU immediately." She nodded and took out a warming blanket.
Kurt gently picked up the baby and placed it on the warming blanket In Quinn's arms. "Okay now go." She nodded and ran. Kurt sighed in relief.
"Mr. Anderson?"
"Hmm?" Came a response.
"Don't you remember giving birth?"
"No. I don't, I mean kind off, but I must have passed out."
"Okay, I need to get you tho the hospital and let them check those tears." Blaine nodded. He was about to lift Blaine when he suddenly coughed up blood. He looked around and saw spikes surrounding them. "No, no, no." He muttered as he quickly dug through again and opened Blains shirt. And there's when he saw it, a spike that impaled Blaine on the chest.
"Shit!" He swore.
"What is it?" Blaine lifted his head and saw it. "Oh."
"QUINN! QUINN!" Tried to call get Quinn back but she was long gone. He dug through the bag and quickly gave him painkillers "Fuck okay, Mr. Anderson you need to stay absolutely still." He nodded and took a breath to stop his sobbing.
"Can't you just pull me off of it?"
Kurt shook his head. "No, not without risking injury to your other organs. I need to find a way to get you to the hospital without removing the spike." Kurt ran his hand trough his hair, trying to think of how to do this.
"How do you know it didn't hit my heart?"
There was a slight pause. "Because we wouldn't be having this conversation, Mr. Anderson." Kurt responded.
"Feels like you're about to become an important person in my life, please call me Blaine."
"Alright Blaine, right now I'm trying to figure out how exactly how this spike is penetrating you."
"Well it definitely doesn't feel like missionary."
In spite of himself Kurt laughed. "Oh god."
"Sorry, I've been told that I should know people a bit more before making those kind of jokes."
Kurt chuckled and removed his scarf. "Lift up a little." He commanded softly and wrapped it around Blaine's neck.
"Oh, oh thank you...But I'm not cold." Kurt stilled.
"You're not?" Blaine shook his head. Kurt stared at him for a second then glanced at the IV bag attached to Blaine that he hang on the tree earlier. It was frozen solid. Kurt needed to move, and he needed to move fast. He took out his penlight and inspected the fence. "Hang In there, Blaine." Kurt said as he dug some snow out to see a little better. "How you holding up?"
"You know, stabbed."
Kurt laughed again. Kurt then feels the screw. "Ha! Found it. There's a screw attached to the spike, if I could just loosen it, I could remove you and the spike together." Kurt informed as he tried to loosen the screw with a scalpel.
"Oh, like a couple. Oh." He hissed.
"Sorry, even with the painkillers you're gonna feel some stuff."
"Stop!" Blaine screams, and Kurt does just that. Blaine whimpered. "Nope." Kurt frowned. "No, no, I'm sorry, keep going, keep going."
"Okay why don't you tell me about your girl's other father?"
"He's not in the picture anymore, he left when he found out I was pregnant."
Kurt scowled. "That guy's an asshole, this is why I never enter relationships."
"Why not?"
"Because when it's inconvenient they always pack up and leave." Kurt said with a shrug. "They don't like me anyway. I'm a huge workaholic and people always say I'm a cold hearted bitch."
"I don't think that." Kurt looked up to stare at Blaine's whiskey colored eyes, only filled with sincerity. "I think you put walls up to protect yourself from hurting. Hence the bitchiness."
Kurt shook his head as he continued to loosen the screw, trying to ignore Blaine's whimpers and what he just said. Then the scalpel snapped. He threw it and groaned in frustration. "Fucking useless! The damn thing broke!" Then he felt a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Kurt... it's okay." He whispered. "You have to leave me now don't you?" Blaine asked in such a small and hopeless tone that it broke Kurt's heart again.
"No. no, your coming with me." Kurt said as he started to pack up.
"I thought that wasn't an option."
"Well, now its our only option.
"Won't I die if you pull me off?"
Kurt sighed and looked at Blaine straight in the eyes. Whiskey brown meeting sapphire blue. "If you stay here, you definitely will." Kurt waited for a response, he got it when Blaine nodded.
Kurt took a needle and injected it into Blaine's arm, he winced a little but Kurt offered a smile, and Blaine returned it. "Loaded you up with morphine. The hospital is about six blocks away." Kurt informed him. "So here's what we're going to do." He started with a softer voice. "We're gonna go on three, alright?" Blaine nodded, and Kurt smiled at him. He cupped Blaine's face and wiped of snow from his face. Kurt stood up and paced his hand on Blaine's pulse point and the other on his waist.
He swallowed the lump on his throat. Then Blaine gripped Kurt's hand. "Wait a minute. If I don't make it, can you please promise me that you'll help my daughter to be taken to a secure and safe home?" Kurt could only nod. "Okay." He breathed out. "Stay with me Okay? I got you." Blaine nodded. Kurt then placed his arms around Blaine neck and under his knees.
"Ready?" Blaine nodded and closed his eyes shut. "Okay. 1...2...3!" He then began to lift him up, swiftly but carefully as possible. He tried to ignore the screams of pain, but he couldn't, he couldn't help but let out a sob.
When he finally got him off the spike, he placed Blaine on the snow. Then he wrapped his arms around the his waist and back, lifting him and carried him over his shoulder. Where he got the strength? He doesn't know. Kurt quickly navigated through the New York streets to the hospital.
