Two beams of light swung back and forth in the darkness. One green and one blue clashed, letting loose a grinding sound with each blow as if the two blades had come alive and were yelling in pain. When the green went high, the blue went low. When the green went left, the blue went right. The dance continued with neither one able to bypass the other. Occasionally the movements would change. The green would be the aggressor then the blue would go on the offensive. The green blade would flip over the blue but would be blocked by a long sweep that followed.

Suddenly a new tactic occurred. The blue blade vanished, disappearing with the sound of a wisp. The green blade hung in the air, not moving as if deciding what to do next. The room was utterly quiet aside from the weapon's distinct hum. The blue blade suddenly reappeared and swung wildly. The green blade moved to intercept followed by two screams. The blades vanished as the room lite up.

The window shutters retracted to the ceiling, allowing light to enter the sparring room and revealing two younglings sprawled on the floor. Yoda had been watching the two Initiates spar. They were both among some of the most promising prospects of their class though for different reasons.

One was an orange skinned Togruta named Ahsoka Tano. Brought to the temple by Master Plo Koon, Ahsoka was strong in the Force but also headstrong and quick to action and judgment. Her lightsaber style was the Shien variation of Form V, one of the most aggressive lightsaber styles. However, her bravery rivaled any Jedi Master and she was quick to help others without any concern for herself. She fought quickly and relentlessly, trying to wear down her opponent until a weakness could be exploited then seize on it. She also had elements of Shii-Cho and Ataru in her offensive style.

The other was a Falleen named Kendra Zor. Found in a refugee camp on the planet Druckenwell by a Jedi humanitarian team, the youngling was more reserved and shy compared to Ahsoka. However, Kendra had courage and the will to act upon it. She specialized in Form 3 also known as Soresu. While most Jedi knew the style, few studied it beyond the basics as it was primarily defensive. However there were hints of Shii-Cho and even Makashi in her combat techniques though they needed to be sharpened. However her Soresu was exceptional for her age as the aggressive Ahsoka had fought her fellow Initiate for over fifteen minutes and hadn't been able to land a single strike on her.

The problem was Kendra hadn't landed a single strike either so she tried to utilize a trick to get a decisive hit. The room had been in near total darkness during the dual, forcing both students to rely less on their eyes and more on the Force. They could only see each other's lightsabers and nothing more. Kendra had attempted to catch Ahsoka off guard by shutting her weapon off and then lashing out in a quick sneak attack. But Ahsoka managed to react fast enough to attempt a counter-strike at the same time. Both of their tactics worked but that was also the problem. Their lightsabers had been set to a stun setting so as not to inflict serious harm on the students but it still hurt enough that when the two of them hit each other at the same time, they both dropped to the floor in minor pain.

The two younglings wore the robes of Jedi Initiates, the first step on a long road within the Jedi Order. They had spent years training within the Jedi Temple, learning various martial arts, multiple languages, knowledge of different cultures and their histories, all important lessons a Jedi needed to know before venturing out into the galaxy in the service of the Republic. The two also wore the braids that Padawans wore before they became Jedi Knights. But while Kendra's was made from her own hair, Ahsoka's was merely jewelry as Togrutas had large montrals and head tails instead of hair.

Ahsoka was the first to her feet before helping Kendra get up. The two of them turned to Yoda and bowed their heads.

"Fought well you both have," Yoda complimented them.

"Thank you master," they both replied.

"Passed your initiate trails you have and now ready for Padawan training your teachers believe," Yoda continued. The two younglings smiled, their eyes beaming with excitement. It was the news every initiate waited to hear. Becoming a Padawan was one of the last steps one took into becoming a Jedi Knight. They would spend the next several years with either a Jedi Knight or Master who would tutor them until they were considered to be ready for the Knighthood trials. However, their assignment would be far more dangerous then what most Padawans faced.

With the outbreak of the Clone Wars, the Jedi were stretched out and with every battle their numbers diminished. The next generation of the Jedi needed real world experience going out into the galaxy especially if they were going to become Jedi Knights even if the galaxy was at war. The Order would do them no favors by keeping them confined away from the battlefield. As much as it pained Yoda, the Padawans needed to be sent out to support the rest of the Order fighting the Separatists. The Jedi sent out their Padawans to aid Knights and Master during previous wars but the last Sith War was so long ago, the practice was almost seen as archaic. These truly were dark times.

"We're ready Master," Ahsoka spoke proudly with Kendra nodding in agreement.

"Go to the Christophsis and meet your new master you will," Yoda spoke.

"And who are they?" asked Kendra.

"Obi-Wan Kenobi your master will be," Yoda replied. The youngling's eyes lite up at the news. Being trained by a member of the Jedi Council was a great honor and she couldn't have asked for a better teacher.

Yoda turned to Ahsoka and said, "Anakin Skywalker your master will be."

The Togruta smiled. Despite his youth, Skywalker had a reputation as a great warrior and hero. He was someone the young initiates all looked up to and to be trained by him was a dream come true.

"Leave immediately you must. Important message you must bring them," said Yoda.

"What message?" asked Ahsoka.

Master Obi-Wan Kenobi breathed a sigh of relief. The droid army attacking the Republic's main base on the planet was repelled and a shuttle just arrived, hopefully with reinforcements. The battle to retake the planet from the Separatists had been touch and go for the past week with both sides earning victories and suffering defeats. However the droid army received a large number of reinforcements. Christophsis was a resource rich planet that neither side could afford to lose so Kenobi had sent their remaining ship away to get additional troops. His former Padawan Anakin Skywalker didn't agree but it was Kenobi's decision to make.

Now that he and Skywalker managed to drive off the clankers, new arrivals should help pacify any remaining resistance and retake the planet. Kenobi never enjoyed battle so the thought of finally leaving the battlefield was a pleasant one. Jedi should be meditating in the Jedi Temple or aiding humanitarian efforts, not fighting as soldiers. The sooner this war ended the better.

"Our cruiser must be back," surmised Kenobi as the shuttle landed on the street.

"Which means we'll be able to get our reinforcements," nodded Anakin as the Jedi headed towards the shuttle.

"Well it looks like our problems are solved. Fresh troops, new supplies, and perhaps they've brought my new Padawan with them," said Kenobi.

Anakin threw him a look. "Do you really think it's a good idea to bring a Padawan learner into all of this?" he asked.

Kenobi shrugged. "I spoke to Master Yoda about it. You should put in a request for one. You'd make a good teacher," he suggested.

Anakin scoffed. "No thanks," he chuckled.

"Anakin teaching is a privilege and it's part of a Jedi's responsibility to help train the next generation," explained Kenobi.

"A Padawan would just slow me down," replied Anakin. Kenobi had to suppress a smile knowing what he and Master Yoda had set in place.

The landing ramp lowered from the shuttle, revealing two younglings inside. Kenobi recognized the two of them but was a little surprised to see them so soon especially considering a battle was still going on. A Togruta named Ahsoka Tano and a Falleen named Kendra Zor. The two of them stood out as they descended the ramp, being the only non-humans in the area.

"And who are you two supposed to be?" asked Anakin as the new arrivals approached.

"I'm Kendra," spoke Zor. Like most of her species, she had light green skin and a rigid skull covered in dark hair but the thing that stood out the most was her bright violet eyes.

"And I'm Ahsoka. Master Yoda sent us," Ahsoka said, her face covered in white markings and her head tails in blue stripes. "We were told to inform you both that you must get back to the Jedi Temple immediately. There's an emergency."

"Well I don't know if you've noticed but we're in a bit of an emergency here," sighed Anakin.

"Yes our communications have been a bit unreliable but we've been calling for help," explained Kenobi.

"Well Master Yoda hadn't heard from either of you so he sent us to deliver a message," said Kendra.

"Oh great. They don't even know we're in trouble," grumbled Anakin.

"Maybe you can relay a signal through the cruiser that just dropped me off," suggested Ahsoka.

"We're under attack by Separatist warships but I'll try to make contact with the Jedi Temple for you. Stand by," replied the communications officers onboard the Republic cruiser in orbit. The holographic image of the clone officer on the coms terminal vanished as Kenobi, Anakin, Ahsoka, and Kendra all waited around for a reply.

They got a response as Grand Master Yoda's figure appeared. "Master Kenobi. Glad the Padawans found you I am," he greeted.

"Master Yoda we are trapped here and vastly outnumbered," reported Kenobi. "We are in no position to go anywhere or do anything. Our support ships have all been destroyed."

"Send reinforcements to you I will," replied Yoda as his image began to scramble. He spoke more but it was too garbled to make it out.

"Master Yoda do you read me?" inquired Kenobi but got no answer.

The image of the clone officer appeared. "We've lost the transmission sir. I'm sorry but we have to leave orbit immediately. More enemy ships have just arrived. We'll get back to you as soon as we can," apologized the clone before his image disappeared.

"Well I guess we'll have to hold out a little longer," muttered Anakin.

Kenobi realized the younglings were waiting albeit somewhat impatiently. "My apologies young ones. It's time for a proper introduction," he said.

"I'm Kendra Zor," Kendra said, bowing her head.

"And I'm Ahsoka Tano," Ahsoka spoke.

"I'm Obi-Wan Kenobi. It's a pleasure to meet you both," smiled Kenobi.

"Uhh…not to ruin the moment but why are there two of you here? Master Kenobi can only take on one Padawan," Anakin pointed out.

"I wasn't assigned to him, I was assigned to you," replied Ahsoka.

"WHAT?!" shouted a stunned Anakin. "There must be some mistake. He's the one who wanted a Padawan."

"No Master Yoda was very specific. I'm assigned to Anakin Skywalker and he is to supervise my Jedi training," said Ahsoka.

"And I am assigned to Master Kenobi," chimed in Kendra.

"But that doesn't make any…" protested Anakin.

"We'll have to sort this out later," interrupted Kenobi. "It won't be long before those droids figure out a way around our cannons."

"I'll check on Rex at the lookout post," grumbled Anakin. He turned to leave.

"You'd better take her with you," Kenobi spoke, enjoying this just a little too much. Anakin rolled his eyes as Ahsoka joined him. Hopefully this little plan would pay off and Anakin would change his mind about taking on an apprentice.

"Uhh…is there a problem Master? I thought Master Skywalker wanted a Padawan," asked a confused Kendra.

"Nothing you need to worry about. However I must apologize. I would have preferred that we'd get to know each other a little bit before undertaking any mission together especially fighting in a battlefield. War is no place for someone whose training is still ongoing," apologized Kenobi.

"Well as Master Yoda says. We go where we must…albeit not like that. He always talks very…differently," Kendra said, choosing her words carefully.

"That he does. Well don't worry. My grammar is quite different from his," chuckled Kenobi.

"May I speak freely Master?" asked Kendra.

"When we're not around anyone then by all means do so but be respectful when we're in public," Kenobi answered.

"Well that's good to know but I was actually just asking if it's okay for me to say something now," said Kendra.

"Go ahead," nodded Kenobi.

"I'm glad I got assigned to you Master Kenobi. I've heard all about you in the Temple and I'm really looking forward to learning from you," spoke Kendra.

Kenobi smiled, "Well I'll try to live up to my reputation."

"As long as you're not Master Windu," chuckled Kendra. Kenobi threw her a look which caused the youngling's smile to vanish. She probably thought she was in trouble.

"Is there a problem with Master Windu?" inquired Kenobi.

"No Master…he's just…" gulped Kendra.

"Stoic, joyless, a stick in the mud," Kenobi said.

"…yes," smiled a nervous Kendra. Kenobi laughed, putting her at ease.

"Relax young one. You're not the first one to think that. When I was your age, my class had a theory that Master Windu was really a droid in disguise," chuckled the Jedi Master.

"Well that would an easy mistake to make," joked Kendra.

Kenobi was trying to get a sense of who she was and simple small talk often revealed a lot. Kendra was nervous but that could be simply because she had just been assigned to a Jedi Master. However during their introductions, she seemed to avoid looking someone in the eye unless she was talking to them directly. Ahsoka glowed with confidence whereas Kendra seemed more inward and shy. Kenobi would work on that.

"Well since we have a little time, I'd like to see your skills with a lightsaber," suggested Kenobi. "What is your preferred style?"

"Soresu, Form 3. It was one of the required styles to study during Initiate training but I kept focusing on it as I had trouble defending myself," answered Kendra.

Kenobi was starting to see why Yoda had suggested her for training. He was also a Soresu specialist to the point many Jedi considered him to be the style's reigning master. Kenobi thought they were exaggerating though. He adapted the style after his fight with Darth Maul as Kenobi felt he was barely able to keep up with the Sith Lord's aggressive fighting techniques. So the Master focused being more on the defensive rather than the offensive and it usually worked well for him aside from a fight with Count Dooku.

"Well a good defense is the foundation for any true Master," commented Kenobi. He drew his lightsaber and activated the stun setting. "Why don't you show me?"

The Master and Padawan didn't get long to practice before more bad news came. The Separatists had activated an energy shield that was growing minute by minute. The droids would stay inside of it, protecting them from the heavy cannons until they were practically right on top of them. Kenobi and Kendra met up with Anakin and Ahsoka at the com terminal to discuss their next move.

A holographic projection showed the battlefield with the shield slowly growing from the Separatists' operating base.

"The shield generator is somewhere in this area," Kenobi explained. "They're slowly increasing the diameter and keeping it just ahead of their troops."

"Heavy cannons are going to be useless against that," sighed Captain Rex.

"As they get closer we could try to draw them into the buildings. That might level the playing field a bit," suggested Kenobi.

"But won't they be able to corner us if we do? We'll have nowhere to run in a firefight," pointed out Kendra.

"We won't have anywhere to run if they take out our cannons," stated Rex.

"If that shield's going to be such a problem, why don't we just take it out?" asked Ahsoka.

"Easier said than done," Rex replied.

Anakin cleared his throat. "Well I for one agree with her," he said. "Someone has to get to that shield generator and destroy it. That's the key."

"Right then. Maybe you two can tiptoe behind through the enemy lines and solve this particular problem together," suggested Kenobi.

"Can do Master Kenobi," Ahsoka spoke proudly.

"I'll decide what we do," hissed Anakin, glaring at his pupil.

"If Rex, Kendra, and I can engage them here, you two might have a chance to get through their lines undetected," stated Kenobi.

"They won't have much time," Rex said grimly. "The droids far outnumber us so our ability to street-fight is limited without the use of heavy cannons. They'll march forward under the protection of their shield until they're right on top of our cannons and blow them away."

"We'll figure out a way," Ahsoka said, confident as ever. "Come on master let's go."

"If we survive this Snips, you and I are going to have a talk," Anakin grumbled as he left with his Padawan.

"They make…quite a pair," commented Rex.

"Master shouldn't the two of us go with them? They'd stand a better chance with all four of us," suggested Kendra.

"Rex and the others need our help here. If we can't hold off the Separatists from reaching our cannons, it won't matter if Anakin and Ahsoka succeed in knocking out that shield," answered Kenobi.

Kendra watched as the Republic's heavy cannons fired away at the approaching energy shield. It was a long shot but Captain Rex wanted to see if they could weaken it with a sustained barrage. However, all they were doing was just wasting ammunition. The shield's growth never once slowed down as it was bombarded nonstop. The droid tanks slowly rolled behind it, completely safe as they got closer with each passing minutes

"That shield is certainly putting a crimp in my day," muttered Kenobi.

"It's no use sir. Even at full power, the cannons don't affect it," said Rex.

"Alright Rex it was worth a try. Cease fire and tell the men to fall back," ordered Kenobi.

Kendra took a deep breath, incredibly nervous. She was about to fight in her first real battle. She's been trained years for a moment like this but getting shot at by a bunch of training droids using stun weapons was a world of difference then fighting battle droids with real blasters that were actually trying to kill you. But she was a Jedi…or at least a Jedi in training. Better yet she was alongside Master Kenobi, one of the best Jedi in the galaxy. She could handle this.

"Rex get everyone to their positions. Kendra you're with me," ordered Kenobi.

Kendra nodded and followed the Jedi Master to the rooftop of a building overlooking the main road to the base. Rex soon joined along with several other clones. Some began setting up sniper and gun nest positions while others were preparing cable hooks. A wave of red energy passed over the building along with everyone harmlessly, continuing to expand outwards.

"We're inside the shield. Just stay away from those tanks," Kenobi said.

"Got it," replied Kendra. She glanced over the side to see the droid army beginning their attack. It was comprised of hundreds of battle droids, dozens of AAT battle tanks, and at least five Octuptarra Tri-Droids.

"That's a lot of droids," commented Kendra.

"That just makes them harder to miss," chuckled Rex. Kendra just found out something about him. The clone manages to keep his sense of humor in dire situations.

Kenobi stood up from cover and ignited his lightsaber. "Stay close and keep your guard up. Kendra if I order a retreat then I want you to fall back with Rex regardless of what happens to me," he said.

The Padawan didn't like how ominous that sounded but nodded. Kenobi leaped over the side right into a column of battle droids. The clones fired grabbling hooks to the street and slide down, firing their weapons as they descended. Kendra took a deep breath, calming her herself and jumped over the side. The street and the battle came rushing up fast as she landed on her feet and immediately slashed the nearest droid in half. With her smaller size, most of the blaster fire simply went over her head as the Separatists were most interested in shooting the clones and Master Kenobi. Kendra would make sure they regret that decision.

She lashed out in large broad slashes that cut through the limbs of multiple droids. They were brunched so close together that it made attacking several droids at once very easy as well as made it difficult for the droids to try and evade. Her fear quickly vanished as her Jedi training took over and she simply reacted to every blaster shot fired at her or punch or kick from a nearby droid the same way she would in battle simulations back in the Temple. It felt less like a fight to the death and more like going through the motions.

The clones and Jedi were dropping the droids like Rodian swamp flies but there was just so many of them. The droids were starting to push forward, sacrificing themselves by the hundreds to overwhelm the Republic forces. Clones screamed as one by one they began to fall whether by blaster fire or getting their skulls crushed by a robotic arm. The troopers fought bravely but it was a losing effort. Kendra could tell things weren't going well just from the amount of blaster fire she was deflecting away from her. It was increasing by the minute and soon would overwhelm her.

"Kendra, Rex, fall back!" yelled Kenobi who was in the thick of the fighting. The Padawan didn't argue about staying at his side. He was her Master and she needed to obey his instructions no matter how much she disagreed with it. She linked up with Rex as he and the remaining clone troopers began to withdraw back to the heavy cannons.

As the droid army closed in, Kendra and Rex took cover near the remains of a destroyed building. It was the last barrier between the droids and the cannons.

"Where's the general?" yelled Rex as the rest of his men retreated into the rubble. The droids pursued them, dropping like swamp flies as they did but their heavy losses allowed them to gain ground.

"I don't know sir," answered one of the clones. He got his answer as Kenobi dropped from the sky and started cutting through the droids. With every motion of his blade, another droid would drop to the ground a pile of rubble. Yet as incredible as it was to watch someone of his skills, it was clear he was getting overwhelmed by the sheer volume of clankers.

"They're right behind us sir. They wiped out most of my unit. We had to pull out of there," Rex reported.

"The shield has almost reached the heavy cannons," Kenobi commented, observing the vast energy shield overhead.

"What do we do?" asked Kendra.

"Kendra you and Rex move the troops back to the heavy cannons. Do everything you can to protect them. I'll delay the droids," Kenobi ordered.

"But…" protested Rex.

"That is an order," Kenobi said, not allowing the clone to finish. He charged into the droid lines and disappeared in the smoke caused by the relentless firefight.

The Padawan and Clone Captain retreated back to the heavy cannons where the shield was just about to overtake it. Once it did, the droids would be able to destroy them at nearly point blank range and there would be nothing they could do to stop them. Rex set up several firing lines to shoot at any clankers that moved ahead of the shield to attack. This would allow the clones to systemically withdraw from cover to cover all the way back to the cannons. Rex and Kendra were on the third and final line.

"Sir General Kenobi's been captured. There's no else left," a clone reported. Kendra couldn't hide her shock at the news.

"We've got to hold out! We can't let that shield reach the cannons. Keep fighting!" ordered Rex, trying to rally the Republic troopers for one last stand but it was a battle they couldn't hope to win without cannon support. Kendra thought she'd spend years protecting the galaxy as a Jedi Knight until eventually becoming a Jedi Master, passing her knowledge onto the next generation of Jedi. It would seem the Force had other ideas for her but she would face it as a Jedi would.

"Ready when you are Captain," Kendra told Rex, letting him know she was with him to the end. The clone gave her a nod and the two stood up from cover. Rex opened fire with his pistols while the Padawan protected him with her lightsaber, deflecting all shots at the two of them aside. The first firing line was overrun, forcing the clones to withdraw to the second. The droids were suffering heavy losses but so were the clones.

Suddenly the energy shield overhead dissipated. The droid army came to a halt as if the clankers suddenly all realized they were in big trouble.

"All cannons! Fire on those tanks!" shouted Rex. The republic heavy cannons lite up, raining a volley of artillery shells into the Separatist ranks. The droids tried to quickly rush the clones and break through but the cannon fire was destroying them before they could get close enough. As if that wasn't good enough, multiple Republic dropships were circling overhead. That meant reinforcements had arrived and broken through the blockade. If that was the case then the battle was now a foregone conclusion. The Republic just won the day.

The clones all cheered at the sight of the dropships as they passed overhead. Kendra breathed a sigh of relief as she deactivated her lightsaber.

"Is this your first battle Commander?" Rex asked.

"Yeah…a little bit sooner than I was expecting," admitted Kendra.

"You're pretty good…for a shiny," jested Rex.

"Shiny?" frowned Kendra.

"Just a little clone humor Commander. We call all our rookies that because their armor are always squeaky clean," explained Rex.

Kendra glanced at her Jedi robes and noticed the ash and droid fluid that accumulated on it. "Well you can't call me that anymore," she chuckled.

That got a laugh from the Captain and the Falleen Padawan found herself laughing as well.

Kendra and Rex linked up with Master Kenobi who was speaking with Grandmaster Yoda. The old dwarf sized master must have been with the Republic fleet that just broke through the blockade. Master Kenobi managed to capture the Separatist general and what remained of the battle droids were being systematically hunted down and scraped.

While Rex took a dropship to pick up Anakin and Ahsoka, Kendra remained with the Jedi Masters.

"Padawan Zor. Fought you did?" Yoda inquired once he was done discussing Council business with Kenobi.

"Yes Master," nodded Kendra.

"And how did you do?" Yoda asked.

"I was a little nervous Master but I followed my training and Master Kenobi's orders and I'm still alive. I guess that's something," quipped Kendra. That got an amused chuckle from the two Masters.

Kenobi spoke up. "Kendra fought bravely. Not once did I ever see any hesitation in her actions. She's ready to become a Padawan," he said.

"Shameful it is to bring younglings to battle so soon but needed they are," sighed Yoda. Kendra knew that the old master wasn't happy about padawans her age fighting in battles. They once did millennia ago during the great wars against the Sith but those days were long over. There hadn't been a war on that scale since which allowed the Jedi to keep their future generations safely in the Temple until they were older. But the Clone Wars outbreak has killed hundreds of Jedi and though nearly ten thousand strong, they were spread all over the galaxy and replacements were needed to fill the gaps left behind by the deceased.

"Just why are you here Master Yoda? Is everything alright?" inquired Kendra. The Grandmaster wouldn't leave the Jedi Temple with the war going on unless it was for a very important reason.

"No Padawan. Not alright it is," answered Yoda.

"I'll let Master Yoda explain why once Anakin and Ahsoka get back," Kenobi explained.

They didn't have to wait long before Captain Rex's drop ship returned with Anakin and Ahsoka. The duo had managed to successfully infiltrate enemy lines and disabled the shield generator which turned the tide of the entire battle. If the Jedi believed in handing out medals, these two certainly deserved them.

"Master Obi-Wan, master Yoda," Anakin greeted the two Jedi Council members as he and his Padawan approached.

"Trouble you have with your new Padawan I hear," Yoda spoke. Kendra glanced at Ahsoka who winced. Anakin wasn't that keen on having a Padawan earlier.

"I was explaining the situation to Master Yoda," said Kenobi.

"Really?" frowned Anakin.

"If not ready for a Padawan you are, then perhaps a new master…" Yoda started to say.

"Wait a minute," interrupted Anakin. "I admit Ahsoka's a little rough around the edges but with a great deal of training and patience, she might amount to something."

That got a smile from Ahsoka. She must have made quite the impression on Skywalker during their mission.

"Then go with you she will to the Teth System," said Yoda. That star system wasn't one Kendra was familiar with.

"Teth? That's Wild Space," frowned Anakin. "The droid army isn't even in that sector."

"Kidnapped Jabba the Hutt's son has been," explained Yoda. Unlike the Teth system, Kendra was quite familiar with Jabba. He was one of the most powerful crime lords in the Hutt Syndicate. Those treacherous slugs controlled a large territory in the Outer Rim as well as dominated the black market in countless star systems.

"You want me to rescue Jabba's son?" Anakin sighed. He did not sound please about the assignment. Kendra could understand not wanting to be aide a criminal like that but this felt more personal.

"Anakin, we'll need the Hutts' allegiance to give us an advantage over Dooku," Kenobi spoke up. The idea of teaming up with the Hutts turned Zor's stomach. She read the reports of what the atrocities they've committed.

"Negotiate the treaty with Jabba, Obi-Wan will," said Yoda. "Find the renegades who hold Jabba's son your mission will be Skywalker."

"Come on Master. It doesn't sound that hard," Ahsoka spoke up.

"Famous last words," quipped Kendra. Ahsoka threw her fellow Padawan an annoyed look and Kendra just smiled back in response, teasing her. The two were classmates at the Jedi Academy so they had a friendship that came off as a playful rivalry.

"I'll find Rex and get the troops organized," Ahsoka said. The Togruta ran off to find the Clone captain, enthusiastic on her new assignment.

"Don't worry Anakin. Just teach her everything I taught you and she'll turn out fine," Kenobi spoke with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

"You know something makes me think this was your idea from the start," Anakin grumbled. He walked away to join his Padawan, leaving his former Master with an amused smile on his face. Something told Kendra that maybe Anakin was right.

"Let's just hope Anakin is ready for this responsibility," Kenobi said.

"Ready he is to teach an apprentice. To let go of his pupil a greater challenge it will be," remarked Yoda, obviously referring to Master Kenobi. Hopefully with the experience of teaching Anakin, that meant he'll know exactly how to teach Kendra.

"Master this Skywalker must," continued Yoda.

"If I've got to make a deal with Jabba the Hutt, we'd best be on our way. I'll requisition two fighters for me and my Padawan to take to Tatooine," stated Kenobi.

"May the Force be with you," Yoda nodded, dismissing him. Kenobi nodded in return and headed towards a drop ship with Kendra following him.

"I've never met a Hutt before," commented Kendra.

"Trust me it's not something to look forward to. Just let me do the talking and try not to breathe through your nose while we're there. Hutt odor can be quite nauseating," Kenobi explained.

"I'm starting to think Master Skywalker and Ahsoka got the easy assignment," sighed Kendra.

Kendra was assigned a Delta 7B Aethersprite-class Light Interceptor on the journey to Jabba's Palace. The fighters were often called the Jedi Starfighter due to being the mainstay of the Jedi's space fleet. It was incredibly maneuverable and also heavily armed for a ship its size as well as shields though it required hyperspace rings for FTL travel. Kendra had over sixty hours in flight time and piloted several training combat sessions over Coruscant so the fighter controls felt natural to her.

She dropped out of hyperspace right next to Master Kenobi's ship. The sand covered planet of Tatooine hung in the dark void of space ahead of them. The Outer Rim world belonged to the Hutt Cartel, specifically Jabba. Though he technically ran the planet, the truth was he had very little to do with the day to day business of the locals. Communities and cities on the surface operated with incredible autonomy, being allowed to control themselves in exchange for tributes to Jabba. It allowed some manner of law and order to actually exist on a world owned by a criminal.

"Master are you sure we shouldn't have brought more Jedi?" Kendra asked, a little nervous.

"Don't worry. I'm sure Jabba's in a good mood," Kenobi replied lightheartedly. That didn't make his Padawan feel any better.

The Jedi's fighters detached from their hyperspace rings and shot off towards the planet. The darkness of space transformed into a bluish sky as Kendra's fighter descended into the atmosphere. She followed Kenobi's fighter to a mountainous region outside of Mos Eisley, one of the largest cities on the planets. Resting on top of a plateau was a large compound comprising of one massive dome structured building in the center with smaller spire-shaped buildings surrounding it. Not exactly what Kendra expected for the home to one of the richest gangster in the Outer Rim but Jabba must enjoy it because he lives here.

Kenobi landed his fighter just outside the main dome and Kendra followed suit. The moment her cockpit opened up, she could feel the sudden wave of Tattooine's dry heat. Falleen come from a tropical world so a dry environment felt uncomfortable to the Padawan. Kendra just hoped they didn't have to stay long on this planet and not just because of the heat.

Kendra jumped out of her fighter and joined Kenobi in heading towards the main building. A large metallic door on it slowly rose up, allowing a protocol droid to pass underneath accompanied by several armed guards. This must be Jabba's welcoming party and quite frankly, Kendra didn't think they looked very welcoming.

"We should not keep the wise and powerful Jabba waiting," the protocol droid spoke. Apparently this thing wasn't programmed with manners. Usually you start a conversation with at least a hello.

"I wouldn't dream of it," Kenobi replied. He seemed incredibly confident and calm considering where they were.

Kendra and Kenobi were led inside the dome and after passing through a series of hallways came to a large meeting room comprising of various species. All of them were no doubt smugglers, bounty hunters, mercenaries, spice dealers, and countless other kinds of criminals attracted to wealth and power. At the far end of the room resting on a raised dais was a Hutt who looked more obese and disgusting then intimidating. Jabba may not look like much but his security was no laughing matter. Dozens of armed guards were situated all over the room, ready to blast anything that attempted to make trouble.

Jabba eyed the newcomers with suspicion as his protocol walked up to his side. Master Kenobi was right about one thing. The Hutt's smell was absolutely atrocious particularly for a Padawan who had spent most of her life inside the Jedi Temple. The clean and pristine headquarters of the Jedi Order couldn't have been more different from Jabba's rotten and decrepit palace.

"Wise and powerful Jabba. These are the Jedi sent by the Republic," the droid spoke.

"Mighty Jabba…" Kenobi said. "…one of our most powerful Jedi is on his way to rescue your son. We will not let you down."

Jabba spoke in Huttese, a common language in the Outer Rim but sparsely used in the Republic. Kendra studied Huttese at the Jedi Academy as did most Jedi but Kenobi insisted they feign ignorance of knowing his language. This would allow the Hutt to feel more at ease in speaking and he might reveal more of what he was thinking if he didn't know the Jedi didn't understand him.

"The most gracious Jabba has one small condition. He demands you bring back the slime who kidnapped his little punky muffin," the protocol droid translated. Kendra tried her hardest not to grin even before the droid started speaking. Punky muffin? That certainly wasn't something you'd expect to hear from some dangerous crime boss.

Jabba spoke again and this time it wasn't so funny. "Dead or alive. If you do not succeed, Count Dooku and his army will," the droid continued.

"But…" protested Kendra who spoke before she could stop herself. Suddenly all eyes in the room were on her.

Jabba spoke and his droid translated, "Does your Padawan have something to say?"

Kendra winced, quickly trying to come up with something to say and dig herself out the mess she's made.

"What my Padawan meant to say almighty Jabba is that it would be counterproductive to bring in the Separatists for help. The Jedi are already searching for your son and won't stop until he's found. If you bring in Count Dooku and the Separatists as well, they'll clash with the Jedi and your son could get caught in the crossfire," said Kenobi.

Jabba said nothing and seemed to be contemplating her words. Kendra breathed a sigh of relief now that she was certain she didn't completely blow this whole thing.

Jabba finally spoke and the droid translated, "The Republic knows that the mighty Jabba's son is on Teth so it shouldn't take them more than one rotation to retrieve him and bring him back here. If you are unable to do this then the might Jabba will not risk his punky muffin's life on Republic incompetence. He will then turn to the Separatists for aide."

"Rest assured might Jabba, we will do everything in our power to bring your son home safely," Kenobi promised. "Allow me to contact the Jedi and inform them of the situation."

Jabba motioned for them to leave. Kenobi headed for the exit with Kendra at his side. She noticed several female Twi'leks were being brought into the room. They were scantly clothed and shackled together with metallic collar clamped around their necks. Kendra realized they were slaves and felt nausea as they started dancing in front of Jabba, amusing the obese slug.

Kenobi said nothing to her until they were outside and safe from unfriendly ears. "I know how hard it must have been to see what was going on in there but we can't let our emotions get the better of us. The Republic is at war and needs the Hutt's cooperation if we are to win it. I'm not happy about it but there's a bigger picture here Kendra," he explained.

"But we're working with people who represent everything the Republic stands against," grumbled Kendra.

"The galaxy isn't always so black and white. Right and wrong can sometimes be extremely difficult to perceive. Right now just focus on our mission. Jabba's son is in danger and he is innocent of his father's crimes," Kenobi reminded her.

"Yes Master," nodded Kendra.

"Take a moment to balance yourself while I contact Anakin and the High Council to update them on the situation," Kenobi said.

"Shoo shoo," snapped Kendra, chasing off a pair of Jawas that were climbing on her fighter. She heard the stories of those scavengers and how they could disassemble an entire capital ship in a matter of weeks. The last thing she needed was a couple of them tearing her ship apart. The Jawas muttered something that was probably vulgar in their language as they took off running.

"Eager to leave?" Kenobi asked. They just finished negotiations with Jabba and were leaving to Teth to help Anakin and Ahsoka. The sooner the better, this planet's climate was drying out Kendra's skin and being in the company of killers, slavers, and other scum made her dry skin crawl.

"Any where's better than here," sighed Kendra.

"Careful what you wish for. At least nobody's trying to kill us here," Kenobi remarked.

"I'd feel more comfortable if they did," Kendra grumbled.

"We'll rendezvous with Admiral Yularen at Teth. Hopefully Anakin and Ahsoka have rescued the Huttlet by now and we can quickly get him back to his father," Kenobi stated.

Kendra felt almost sorry for the little Hutt, going back to a father who's a crime lord. He'll probably grow up believing that murder and slavery are okay as long as it suits you. Once he's an adult then he'll probably go into the family business and become just as bad or possibly worse than his father. It felt like they were just saving someone who they may have to fight against later in the future. Then again what else could they do? Kill a toddler who hasn't committed a crime or take him away from his own father who despite being a horrendous sentient at least cared about his child?

Kendra just knew one thing as she climbed into her ship. Things were a lot simpler back in the Jedi Temple.

Admiral Yularen's flagship just into hyperspace moments after Kenobi and Kendra landed their fighters inside its hangar bay. They needed to pick up Anakin, Ahsoka, their troops and Jabba's son as quickly as possible. Jabba claimed he wouldn't ask the Separatists for help for one cycle but there's an old saying that goes like this. How can you tell that a Hutt is lying? Because their lips are moving.

Master and Padawan waited on the bridge of the ship but allowed Yularen to run things while they waited to arrive at Teth. There was no reason to change up the command structure of the ship while they were being transported from one planet to another.

"You seemed troubled back on Tatooine," Kenobi commented. They had privacy in the coms room on the bridge with everyone else busy which allowed the Master to speak with her student privately.

"We're trying to court Jabba as our ally and yet he's a criminal who sells slaves, drugs, illegal weapons and who knows what else. We always talk about law and order at the Temple and yet we're willingly working with people just as bad as the Separatists," sighed Kendra.

"Even if Jabba is arrested or killed, do you really think his criminal empire will vanish? Someone else will replace him who could be even worse. My master Qui-Gon Jinn once told me how he and his own master once allowed a crime lord on Coruscant to escape prosecution. He only sold spice as compared to his rivals who sold slaves and extorted local businesses. By taking down his competition, they allowed him to take control of nearly an entire sector of Level 12. During his reign, violent crimes in the area were at an all-time low," explained Kenobi.

"That doesn't sound like anything I've read at the Temple," remarked Kendra.

"Like I said before, the galaxy isn't always black and white," nodded Kenobi. The way he spoke came from experience. Kendra wondered if Kenobi did something similar with his own master. Then again Jinn's master was Count Dooku who was now the leader of the Separatists and working to destroy the Republic and the Jedi. His methods and ideals probably weren't going to be taught in the Jedi Temple now.

The clone communications officer approached the two Jedi. "General we're receiving a transmission from General Skywalker," he reported.

"Good. Patch it through," Kenobi replied. The clone nodded and quickly tapped a few buttons on the com terminal, bringing up a holographic image of Anakin and Ahsoka. They both looked no worse for wear which seemed like a good sign and Ahsoka was holding a small little creature that looked like a Hutt. Kendra at first thought it was something else just from its size. You could carry it in a backpack which Ahsoka seemed to have already figured out.

"Anakin did you locate Jabba's son?" Kenobi asked.

"We have him but it looks like the Separatists are behind his abduction," replied Anakin. "This smells like Count Dooku."

"I think it's little stinky you smell," quipped Ahsoka. Anakin threw her a look while Kendra chuckled.

"I'll bet Dooku is using to get Jabba to join the Separatists," stated Kenobi.

"But how is he going to do that?" asked Kendra. "Once we return Jabba his son, he'll have no reason to believe we're responsible for the kidnapping."

"If there's one thing the Count is known for, it's his subterfuge," commented Kenobi.

"Master Kenobi we have another problem," Ahsoka spoke up. "This Huttlet is very sick."

"I'm not sure we can get him back to Tatooine alive Master. This whole rescue may backfire on us," Anakin said. "I still don't think dealing with the Hutts is a good idea."

Kendra seconded that opinion but kept that to herself.

"Anakin you know they control shipping routes in the Outer Rim. Jabba's cooperation is crucial to the war effort," explained Kenobi. "If you let anything happen to his son, our chances of a treaty with him will disappear."

Ahsoka glanced up, noticing something. "Master we've got trouble," she said.

"Defensive positions!" a clone yelled off screen. This couldn't be good.

"Anakin?" Kenobi asked, knowing something was wrong.

"I'll have to call you back Master. We're under attack. We could use some help if you have the time," replied Anakin.

"We'll get there as soon as we can. Protect the Hutt Anakin," Kenobi ordered. The transmission was cut off. Kendra didn't know whether Master Skywalker severed it himself or he was being jammed. Either way they needed to pick up the pace.

Kenobi headed towards Yularen in the commander center. "Anakin's under attack. We need to get to Teth as soon as possible," the Jedi Master spoke.

"We're already pushing the engines General but I'll see what I can do," said Yularen.

"Anakin and his team are under attack by Separatist forces at this monastery," Master Kenobi explained to his audience of hundreds of clone troopers, pilots, and support staff inside the hangar bay. A holographic emitter displayed a layout of the Teth Monetary as well as multiple red dots flying around it, indicting enemy fighters.

"Sensors indicate multiple squadrons of Vulture droids patrolling the skies as well as an attack force of at least one droid battalion on the ground. It seems they've forced Anakin's forces back inside the building and are setting up anti-air missile droids to fight off any potential Republic reinforcements. The primary goal for Blue and Green squadrons is to achieve air supremacy. They'll target the droid fighters and missile droids. Red and Black squadrons will provide support for our landing craft as well as close air support once they reach the surface. Our main objective is to safeguard the huttlet in Anakin's care. We'll try to take the monetary by force if possible but if it proves too costly, then we'll retrieve our troops on the surface and depart," explained Kenobi.

Kendra watched as the clones took in the information with stern and emotionless looks on their faces. They knew this would be a dangerous assignment and yet none of them looked concerned. This was just another mission for them and one that were probably certain they'd succeed in.

"Any questions?" Kenobi asked. The room was silent, everyone not saying a word. "Alright then you have your assignments. Get to your ships and may the Force be with you."

"Let's move you lazy banthas! Do you want to live forever?!" a clone captain yelled out, motivating the troops to get moving.

"Shall we?" Kenobi asked Kendra, motioning to their ships.

"I've never been in a real space battle before," admitted a nervous Kendra.

"You've clocked in at least a hundred hours in a simulator right?" asked Kenobi, even though it was a rhetorical question. All younglings are required to pass nearly a hundred hours in fighter simulators before becoming a Padawan.

"Yeah but if there's one thing I've learned from today, it's that simulated combat and real combat are two different things," answered Kendra.

"Just keep you fighter close with mine and you'll be fine. If in doubt, do a barrel roll," advised Kenobi.

"I love flying!" Kendra shouted in delight as her ship entered the atmosphere of Teth. She had been terrified at first but, just like the Battle of Christophsis, once the battle started it felt less like a battle for life and death and more like just going through the motions. Her training and experience from simulated dog fights took over as she blasted her way from one droid to the next, keeping her fighter close to Master Kenobi's to act as wingman as they soared through the

"Glad someone is enjoying themselves," remarked Kenobi over the com.

Kendra nervously gulped, embarrassed by her outburst. "Sorry Master," she apologized.

"Don't be sorry. Just stay focused. Attack pattern Gamma," replied Kenobi.

Kendra nodded and concentrated on the oncoming Vulture Droids. Kenobi went into an evasive pattern, the kind Jedi younglings were trained in during their simulated dogfights. Understanding this, Kendra managed keep up with her Master as the two of them picked off their attackers one by one. One of Green squadron was swarmed but the two Jedi managed to rescue him. The majority of the Vulture droids at this point were either destroyed or dog fighting the Republic fighters, leaving an opening for the ground troops to land.

"This is Red Leader. All AA cannons have been destroyed," reported the leader of Red Squadron.

"Good work. Commander Cody, send in the gunship for ground assault," Kenobi ordered.

"Yes sir," replied the clone commander.

"Kendra on me. We'll be heading to the Monastery," Kenobi spoke.

"Right behind you Master," acknowledged Kendra.

Kenobi dived towards a mesa as tall as a skyscraper with the monastery encompassing the entire top surface. It looked similar to Jabba's Palace with its massive single dome structure surrounded by several smaller dome shaped buildings. Near the edge of the mesa was a landing pad that had become a complete warzone. Numerous battle droids had surrounded the wreckage of an AT-TE. Kendra could make out a few figures exchange blaster fire with the clankers but couldn't see Anakin or Ahoska.

"Looks like Anakin and his unit are making a last stand on the landing pad. Let's give them some fire support," observed Kenobi.

"On it," agreed Kendra.

The Jedi took their fighters into a strafing run, covering the area surrounding the AT-TE wreckage with blaster fire. Kendra specifically targeted more dangerous units such as Destroyer Droids and Spider Droids. After making another pass, Kendra watched as her Master leaped out of his fighter with his lightsaber drawn. The moment his feet touched ground, he blitzed through a wave of battle droids. Kenobi carved its way through anything mechanical in his way while also blocking any incoming bolt that threatened him. Kendra couldn't help but be awed as her Master's skill.

"Kendra keep providing cover fire for the clones and the landing parties," ordered Kenobi.

"What about Skywalker and Ahsoka?" asked Kendra.

"They're still inside. I'm going to help them," replied Kenobi before cutting the transmission.

Kendra watched as her Master ran down the landing pad. Spurring into action, the Padawan guided her fighter into a strafing run. She unleashed a volley of blaster bolts into a collection of droids in Kenobi's path. With a clear path, he was able to rush inside the Monastery. Landing ships began depositing clone reinforcements onto the pad, linking up with the survivors of Anakin's unit.

"Captain Rex it's General Skywalker," said Anakin's voice through com.

"Yes general?" replied Rex's voice.

"We're not going to be able to help you," Skywalker sighed, sounding disappointed and almost guilty.

Kendra switch her com to Anakin's frequency and said, "Don't worry Master Skywalker. Master Kenobi and I arrived with reinforcements."

"Kendra is that you? Where's Obi-Wan?" asked Anakin, a little surprised.

"Master Kenobi went inside the monastery to help you. What's your position?" inquired Kendra.

"Me and Ahsoka on our way to the monastery. We've picked up some old transport," explained Anakin.

Kendra checked her sensors and noticed a single headed towards the mesa. "I've got you. Is the Huttlet alright?" she asked.

"Yes but he needs medical attention. Is the Resolute in orbit?" replied Anakin.

"Yes Master. I'll escort you there," nodded Kendra.

"Don't worry about us General," Rex's voice came through the com. "We're about to mop up what's left of these scrap heaps,"

"Understood. Good hunting Captain," Anakin's voice acknowledged.

Kendra made a pass by the freighter that Anakin and Ahsoka had acquired and it was an absolute piece of junk. It had the makings of a Corellian design which were known for their durability but Kendra swore it looks like the rusty hull plating was about to just fall off.

"Are you sure that's a good idea to flying in that thing?" Kendra asked.

"We didn't exactly have a lot of options. Is the Resolute nearby?" retorted Anakin.

"Yes Master but it's under attack. We're going to have to shoot our way there," warned Kendra.

"Alright lead on and clear out any hostiles in our path," ordered Anakin.

"Understood," acknowledged Kendra. Her fighter shot ahead of the freighter and ascended into the upper atmosphere. In the meantime, she realized she needed to update Master Kenobi on the situation.

"Master Kenobi can you hear me? Anakin and Ahsoka have managed to rescue the Hutt and I'm escorting their ship back to the Resolute," Kendra transmitted. She got no response.

"Master Kenobi do you copy?" she asked into the com. Silence was her only response.

"I hope he's okay," Kendra said to herself as she switched frequencies.

"This is Padawan Kendra Zor to Jedi Cruiser Resolute. I'm escorting Master Skywalker on a small freighter. He has Jabba's son onboard and needs to dock at once. The Hutt requires immediate medical attention," Kendra reported.

"Understood Commander. The Lower Rear Hangar is open and awaiting their arrival. We'll have a medical team standing by," replied a Clone bridge officer.

"Master Skywalker did you get that?" asked Kendra.

"Loud and clear," acknowledged Anakin.

Kendra's tactical computer gave off a warning as several Vulture Droid fighters were moving on an intercept course with Anakin and Ahsoka's ship.

"I'm breaking off to engage," Kendra transmitted before increasing her speed and heading directly into the path of the oncoming attackers. She opened fire, taking out one fighter and causing the rest to scatter. They quickly recovered and turned their attention to the Padawan's fighter, considering her the biggest threat. Kendra couldn't take on so many at the same time so she instead decided to lead them on a wild bantha chase while Anakin and Ahsoka could get away. The majority chased after her but at least three decided to keep their focus on Anakin's freighter.

Kendra had to remind herself that this wasn't a simulation but a real fight. Her mind was going through the motions as if it were so at least she was calm and collected. The big difference was that if she screwed up, she ended up losing more than just a passing grade. She was out of her depth so she contacted the nearest squadron of fighters mopping up a few Separatists fighters in their area. They were comprised of V-19 Torrent Fighters which meant their range was short but they could handle a group of Vulture Droids fairly well.

"This is Kendra Zor to Green Squadron. I have at least five Vulture Droids on my tail and request assistance," she transmitted.

"Copy that Commander. Bring them around to point 85 and we'll handle the rest," replied Green Leader.

Kendra turned and was forced to dip and spin to avoid the swarm of Vulture Droids. As the droid fighters got closer and closer, their accuracy improved. A few shots managed to hit her ship, causing her computers to issue a warning that her deflector shields were being overtaxed. She lured her pursuers right into the path of Green Squadron. A few fighters broke off to engage them but they were quickly dispatched. Then Kendra decided to take her master's earlier advice about doing a barrel roll and did a complete 180 over the Vulture Droids and right herself behind them. Normally the droids would have done the same thing but they now prioritized Green Squadron as the primary threat.

Kendra and Green Squadron closed the vice, attacking from the front and behind. The Vulture Droids got off a few shots but were quickly blasted into scrap.

"All clear Commander. Sensors are picking another squadron of Sepies. We're moving to intercept," reported Green Leader.

"Thanks for the help Green Leader. Good hunting," replied Kendra. The V-19s pulled away from her as she turned back to the Resolute to rejoin Anakin and Ahsoka.

She arrived at the Venator-class Battleship to see Anakin's freighter heading towards the open hangar. Before they could reach it, a trio of Vulture Droids headed right towards the hangar bay as full speed. Kendra realized they were going to ram the hangar and increased her speed to catch them but it was too late. The droids flew right into the open bay and a second later it was engulfed in a massive explosion. Kendra was forced to dive at top speed to avoid getting enveloped into the blast.

"General Skywalker abort! Abort!" could be heard on the coms.

Kendra brought her ship around and followed her sensor readings to intercept Anakin's freighter. She detected at least three Vulture Droids still pursuing them so they quickly become her new priority. With their attention focused on Anakin and Ahsoka, Kendra was able to take out two droids in rapid succession. The final one was smart enough to break way but didn't get very far before it was finished off.

"You're all clear Master Skywalker," Kendra reported.

"Thanks for the assist. We're going to have to take Jabba's son the rest of the way to Tatooine ourselves," said Anakin.

"Let me get a hyperspace ring from the Resolute and join you," urged Kendra.

"The droids have already shown they're willing to ram any unshielded section of our ships. If you try to fly into Resolute hangar bay, the droids will use the opportunity to do it again. I'm afraid you won't be able to join us," stated Anakin.

"I'm sorry Master," sighed Kendra.

"Don't be. You did good Kendra. We'll take it from here," Anakin said, cheering her up.

"You be careful out there. You still owe me a rematch," Ahsoka spoke up.

Kendra smiled, "And I look forward to knocking you on your butt."

"In your dreams," chuckled Ahsoka.

The freighter jumped away into hyperspace.

Kendra turned her fighter around and switched the coms to Kenobi's frequency. "Master Kenobi. Anakin and Ahsoka couldn't land on the Resolute so they're heading to Tatooine on the ship they procured," she reported.

There was no response on Kenobi's com. This was the second time he wasn't responding to her transmissions. Something was wrong.

Kendra shot her fighter down through the atmosphere towards the monastery. She noticed on the courtyard barely any blaster bolts were fired, meaning Rex and his men had already won the battle. They were just mopping up at this point there was no sign of Master Kenobi down there as Kendra made a single pass overhead. So she decided not to use sensors anymore and instead reach out with the Force. Instantly she could feel his presence but also someone else. Someone powerful and full of anger.

She let her instincts guide and turned her ship towards a bridge connecting the main building to a spire on the edge of the mesa. The sun was starting to set but she could still see the movement of blue and red energy blades. That had be Master Kenobi and he was in a lightsaber duel some kind of Sith. That would explain why he wasn't answering his coms earlier. Kendra couldn't tell who was winning but she wasn't going to just sit back while her master was fighting for his life. She piloted the fighter down and brought the fighter up slowly underneath the bridge.

Kendra came up right next to the battle, now able to recognize her Master up close and recognized see his attacker as well. Every Padawan had to do research on the various generals and champions of the Confederacy and this was a Dathomirian named Asajj Ventress. She first showed up early in the Clone Wars as Count Dooku's assassin and was responsible for killing numerous Jedi.

The two combatants stopped their fight as they realized Kendra's sudden appearance. Obi-Wan smiled and turned back to Ventress to say something, probably telling her to surrender. The odds weren't in her favor anymore.

Kendra gripped the fire controls on her control stick, ready to put the Jedi killer down should she try anything. Perhaps she was too concerned about the bog witch that she should noticed the Vulture Droid that was rapidly approaching on a collision course. It must have done come around the Mesa to use it as cover. Kendra had no choice but swerve her fighter to the side. The droid fighter passed right by her, heading underneath the bridge. At the same time, Ventress leaped into the air and landed right on top of the Vulture Droid as it passed underneath.

Cursing herself, Kendra ignited her engines and chased after them. She wasn't going to let that murderer get away.

"Kendra can you read me?" Kenobi's voice came through the com.

"Yes Master. I have Ventress in my sights and am moving to engage," replied Kendra.

"Pull back Kendra. We'll get her another day," ordered Kenobi.

"A little closer and I'll have a clear shot at her," protested Kendra.

"I know Ventress and she won't risk having her life hang on one Vulture Droid. She probably has escorts on their way to protect her. Get out of there," explained Kenobi.

"Just a little closer," Kendra said. All she needed was to get that Vulture Droid within weapons range and this would all be over.

"That's an order Kendra," Kenobi demanded, clearly getting worried.

Kendra understood he was just trying to protect her but this was a golden opportunity to stop someone who killed numerous Jedi. She couldn't just let this opportunity slip through her fingers. She was only a few seconds away from weapons range and Vulture Droids have weak armor. It would only take a few shots and Ventress would never hurt anyone ever again.

"Kendra!" Kenobi shouted.

An alarm went off as sensors picked up a squadron of eight Separatist fighters moving to intercept Ventress's fighter. Now they were turning and locking onto Kendra's fighter. The Padawan knew she couldn't take off that many fighters by herself and to quickly turn around. Five Vulture Droids formed up around Ventress's fighter to escort it to safety while three others break off to chase after Kendra.

"I've got three clankers on my tail. I can't shake them," Kendra transmitted. Blaster bolts shot past her fighter as her pursuers opened fire.

"Get back to the monastery," Kenobi spoke.

The fighter shook violently from an impact. Red lights lite up all over the control panel as klaxons went off warning that shields were gone. Kendra glanced out her windshield to see the left thruster was on fire. She quickly turned back to her control panel and was forced to shot the thruster off to prevent the fire was spreading faster. The engines had suffered heavy damage and started to overheat. Normally you'd shut it down to wait until cooled down. The problem was she was high in the atmosphere being chased by numerous energy fighter.

Kendra decided she had no choice but to push the engines and try and make it to the monastery. The klaxons got louder as the control panel warned the engines were in danger of exploding. The mesa, however, was in sight and so was the landing platform. Throwing caution to the wind, Kendra went straight in. She knew this was going to be a rough landing but she didn't have a choice. The droid fighters turned around, certain their job was finished as was Kendra.

"Captain Rex. I'm coming in and I can't slow down. Clear the platform," Kendra transmitted before shutting off her engines. Now she just trying to glide her way onto the Mesa but she was still coming in very fast. She couldn't slow down or she could lose altitude and ram straight into the side of the mesa.

Kendra could make out figures scrambling for safety on the platform. She aimed for a landing path that would hopefully avoid hitting anyone. The fighter hit the platform hard, nearly knocking Kendra's head right into the control panel. Her fighter slide across the platform, sending sparks and chucks of durasteel into the air. She knew she was still coming in too fast and though she made it through the arch entrance of the front wall into the inner courtyard, her fighter was still going to smash right into the monastery.

Kendra closed her eyes, waiting for the end before she suddenly felt her fighter slowing down. She opened her eyes and saw Master Kenobi at the Monastery's entrance directly in her path. He had his arms stretched out and his eyes closed, using the Force to slow her fighter down. Her fighter began to lose momentum and slowed down to a crawl right before coming to a halt directly in front of Kenobi.

Kendra breathed a huge sigh of relief as her head collapsed into the back of her head rest. She saw Kenobi jumping up onto her fighter's hull and with a motion of his hand, her canopy opened up.

"Are you alright?" Kenobi asked.

"I'm not sure I like flying so much anymore," sighed Kendra.

Kendra was transported to the Resolute and spent an hour being examined by Chief Medical Officer for any injuries from the crash. Aside but a few bruises, the Padawan was given a clean bill of health. Now she was seated in her Master's quarters as he finished speaking with Master Yoda and Chancellor Palpatine. They were probably updating him about Anakin and Ahsoka's progress but Kendra wasn't invited to attend. Instead Kenobi ordered her to get herself checked out and wait for him here.

This wasn't how Kendra hoped her first day as a Padawan would end. First impressions are important and she made a bad one. Kendra disobeyed a direct order from her Master and it almost got her as a result. The Padawan just hoped that Kenobi wouldn't send her back to the Temple for reassignment. Yes that was unlikely but everything's changed with the whole war. The galaxy was in chaos and Master Kenobi might not want a Padawan around whom he might consider to be high maintenance.

The automatic door slide open, revealing Kenobi. Kendra quickly got to her feet as the Master stepped inside and closed the door behind him.

"Anakin informed me that Jabba's son has been safely returned to his father. Jabba had agreed to sign a treaty with the Republic to help us in our war efforts," explained Kenobi.

"That's good to hear," commented Kendra.

"We're on our way to Tatooine to pick Anakin and Ahsoka up. In the meantime, I think we should talk," Kenobi said. He motioned for her to take a seat. Kendra back down on the same chair while Kenobi sat down on the bed close by.

"Why did you disobey me to go after Ventress?" asked Kenobi.

"Because I almost had a clear shot at her Master," sighed Kendra. "I thought it was the best opportunity to stop her."

"Best opportunity for you?" Kenobi frowned.

"Well yes," winced Kendra. "I know how powerful she is and that I don't stand a chance against her by myself but in that moment, none of that mattered. I could take her down and not have to worry about facing her in a dual."

"Then you acted out of fear," said Kenobi. "You're not a coward Kendra but you were so desperate to avoid facing her face to face that you disobeyed me and almost got yourself killed. You're just a Padawan and you still have much to learn. When I give you an order, know that your safety is one of my priorities and I don't ever want to put you in a situation that I don't think you can't handle."

"I understand Master," Kendra sighed.

"We'll get another chance at Ventress and when we do, we'll do it cautiously," stated Kenobi. "Watch what I do, follow my lead, and obey my instructions and I promise you'll be ready for whatever comes."

"Yes Master. I promise I'll do better," nodded Kendra.

"I don't doubt it now c'mon. If you're so worried about facing Ventress then let's get some practice in with your lightsaber," smiled Kenobi.

Kendra smiled back, her fears of being sent back to the Temple vanishing in an instant.

Kenobi and Kendra landed just outside Jabba's Palace on a republic gunship. Anakin and Ahsoka were waiting for them on the landing pad.

"Well done you two," Kenobi spoke as she stepped off the gunship with his Padawan. "With Jabba's aide, we'll be able to reinforce our holdings in the Outer Rim."

"Just another day at the office," shrugged Anakin.

Ahsoka turned to Kendra. "Master Kenobi told us what happened to you. Are you okay?" she asked.

"I'll be fine," nodded Kendra.

"Well if it makes you feel better, you're not the only one who crashed their ship today," smirked Ahsoka as she eyed her master.

"Hey that wasn't my fault," protested Anakin.

"I did have one question for you Anakin," said Kenobi. "Did you actually put in a salvaging request for that ship you crashed?"

"I don't like a good ship to go to waste. It'll need a lot of patching up to do but I think it's still got a lot of life left in her," answered Anakin.

"That might be crazier than anything else you've done today," chuckled Ahsoka.

"Well we better get underway. The war goes on," said Kenobi. The four Jedi stepped onto the gunship which took them all to the Resolute and their next adventure.
