"Trust me, there are very probably no monsters here," my boyfriend said with a reassuring smile plastered to his face.
I rolled my eyes. Yeah, sure. That's what he said before we went to the Parthenon in Nashville, too.
"Perc, you know I don't believe you when you say that now, right?" I asked him, eyebrows arching questioningly.
He returned my remark with a sheepish smile before reaching over my lap to open the door for me. Rolling my eyes once more, I followed Percy out of the vehicle and to the overlook. I was about to make a snarky remark about the look of awe on his face when I stopped dead in my tracks.
Spread out, arcing in a large expanse stretching out for numerous miles was an astounding array of towering cliffs and mountains - the Grand Canyon. It was...breathtaking. Almost as if someone had painted this majestic landscape. Probably Bob Ross, to be honest. I felt something brush against my hand then and smiled when I felt Percy's fingers intertwine with mine.
"Beautiful isn't it? Not as beautiful as you, though," he whispered in my ear and a chuckle escaped from between my lips as I shook my head indignantly.
Slowly, I turned to face him - my gaze locking on sea-green.
"Did you really just use that line on me?" I asked, smirking at him before it finally dawned on me, "Grover taught you that, didn't he?"
Percy's face flushed scarlet and I laughed at my boyfriend's embarrassment. I knew it.
"In my defense, he said that's how he got a date with Juniper,"
"Juniper's a nymph, Percy," I pointed out.
He shrugged, a sudden gust of wind blowing strands of dark hair into his face.
"Plus, Leo, Piper, and Jason said it was pretty cool here...except for one or two possible monsters," he admitted the last part as an afterthought before his eyes widened slightly at his omission and he was quick to amend, "But they're all gone now! Yep, all gone. Died and went to the Underworld. Won't be back,"
I chuckled and shook my head, the smile still on my face as I leaned into Percy's side, chin resting on his shoulder.
"Thanks for taking me here, babe. I love it."
"Anything for my girl."
