1979

Eddie stood on the bluffs with the wind ripping around him, causing his long brown hair to blow out of his frightened eyes, and open his olive green button down shirt. Gretchen stood less than ten feet away, right on the cliff, standing there, her eye makeup running, and her beautiful blond hair, which was usually pinned up neatly in a tight bun, to come partly undone, framing her pale and desperate face. She stood in her blue boots, mini skirt, and blouse, looking still so gorgeous, despite how absolutely desperate and terrified she looked. He noticed one of her gold hoop earrings were missing, and the ground beneath her appeared unsturdy, with gravel and pebbles. She swayed, as the wind blew even harder, as Eddie very carefully took another step closer, his own boots crunching the gravel and dirt beneath him.

"Don't come any closer Eddie!"

Gretchen shouted over the wind. Eddie stopped. holding his hands up, pleading with her.

"Gretchen! Please! Listen to me!"

Gretchen shook her head, tears causing her makeup to run down around her eyes like a racoon. She curled one of her hands into a tight fist in-between her two breasts, and shouted back at him...

"You lied to me! You're a monster!"

Eddie sighed, as he shook his head and took another step closer.

"You need to listen to me! It was the only way you could have died!"

"I am dead Eddie! I'm a monster just like you!"

Eddie sighed, before shaking his head.

"We're not dead, and we're not monsters. Let me take you back to the colony and talk to doc! He can make you understand, you'll see that it was the only way...I love you Gretchen!"

Gretchen snapped her eyes shut for just a moment, weeping before she opened them again, tears catching on her long lashes.

"I can't Eddie...I rather jump than to ever turn into that horrible thing again..."

Eddie sighed staring at her before he shook his head and motioned over to her.

"Even if you jump...you'll survive."

"You're just trying to stop me!"

"I swear, you'll just wash up on shore down below. You'll heal...you can't kill yourself..."

Gretchen then reached behind her, from the waistband of her skirt. She took out a small pistol. Instantly Eddie's brow wrinkled as he saw her raise it and point it directly to her head. Sighing again, Eddie shook his head.

"I told you Gretchen, you can't kill yourself, now please darling, come with me..."

Gretchen stared at Eddie completely heartbroken.

"I did a little research after the other night...we're werewolves aren't we?"

Eddie just stared at her, honestly not knowing what to say. Sniffling, Gretchen used her other hand to dig into her pocket to her skirt, before tossing something towards him, landing straight in the grass right next to Eddie's boot.

He glanced down, and much to his horror saw what it was... Silver bullets.

Eddie's wide horrified eyes slowly looked back up at her.

"Gretchen..."

"I loved you Eddie...but can't you see...we belong dead."

She turned the gun towards him, ready to take aim. Eddie stood there, the wind still blowing his hair back, when he saw the flicker in her eyes. She looked almost to be in pain, before her face crumpled and she turned the gun around and right into her mouth. Eyes widening, Eddie tried to run forward, reaching...

"NO!"

With that she fired, the shot echoing over the wind as she fell backwards, and off the cliff. Eddie stood there stunned knowing that the only woman he ever loved...his mate was now dead. He would search for any woman like her in the next year or so, always disappointed by them for not being her, and turning on them.

That was...until he first laid eyes on Karen White on the news one night.
