Licence to Steal
Part 1 : The setting
Kitty Pryde has left the X-Men for Chicago to recover from her breakup with Colossus. Visiting her father at his bank, she learns that he is in trouble with some Japanese businessmen who seem to be criminals.
As she infiltrated the closed bank, she was able to overhear the conversation: they want him to cooperate in the stealing of an artifact, being the bank one of the sponsors of the exposition of asian art. Inside the artifact, there is a legendary jewel. They're gonna steal the very next day. And to ensure this, they're gonna kidnap his family.
Kitty runs outside out of the bank, and goes to a close public telephone. She tries to speak with Wolverine, but with her mumbling and crying and the interference its impossible for her to communicate. She hangs the telephone to blow her nose. Then she notices that she used her last coin. She is desperate.
Part 2: Dangerous friendships
There's a man smoking a cigarette next to her. "Do you need help cherie?" - "Do you have a coin?". "No, but maybe I can help you". This guy was strange, but weirdly charming. "How?"
The man pushes her against a tree, and she phases through it. "Fascinating, I saw you coming out of a wall. Don't worry, I'm not going harm you. I can help you."
-Why would you?
-I have an unfinished business with the same japanese men. The best move is to move before them, replace it with a copy and return the original once they leave the scene. If what you've said is true we should act tonight. We don't have time to lose.
"I can't go home, even if the x-men came it's possible it would be too late." She thought to herself.
Part 3: The hit
The plan was to change the artifact for a copy. She spent then the afternoon learning the art of stealth and steal.
-What kind of name is Gambit?
-The best I could find. I shall give you a name for your debut... Shadow
-Is good I'm not trying to persevere on this business.
-Well cherie, your baptism is here. Your first job is to steal from the gift shop. Meet me then with the replica.
So they pulled off the hit. Kitty was amazed about what she was doing. She always perceived as a genius, and her experiences with the xmen already made her confident about her abilities. But one thing was practicing moves with Stevie Hunter and another was high profile art stealing.
Part 4: The best around
But not everything worked out, as Gambit took the artifact and ran away. She tried to follow him but as she got out a van appeared with ninjas coming out of it.
A figure jumped from a close roof. It was Logan, he dispatched the ninjas like dummies.
-Wolverine! the artifact... was stolen!
-Don't worry kid. The Iron Fist is after him. He'll return the artifact to the Rand-Meachum foundation. You ok?
-Yes, but my dad is still captive
-Not for too long. You are lucky to know the best in hostage negotiations, the only peculiarity is I don't like talking.
Epilogue
Kitty and Logan are about to rescue her father.
-I'll get in from the front door. When you hear the gunshots jump on the roof and phase you in. Do you still want to?
-Sure as my codename is Shadowcat
