Honoka just wanted to know.
She needed to know.
The future researcher wanted to be aware about the things she doesn't like about Nagisa.
Maybe her sloppy personality, somehow lazy and hardly eager to make some housework but...
No.
Honoka loved Nagisa's laziness because she was a very active girl. Always running, playing, helping others and even fighting. Nagisa deserved to enjoy her peaceful time just like at that moment, with both of them laying back on the lawn and watching the clear sky.
Maybe her bottomless stomach?
No.
Honoka loved her for eating everything she cooked for her, for enjoying simple and delicious moments like a family dinner or a visit at the Tako Cafe for eating and playing with Hikari and the others and talking with Akane about life and future, everything with hot takoyaki and cold soda. Honoka loved her when she talked with such a cute and happy smile about the breakfast, the dinner or her lunch... Or Honoka's lunch.
Maybe her bad moods?
No.
Everybody had their bad moods and their bad days, Honoka wasn't the exception. Nagisa sometimes could be rude because the heat of the moment, but never crude or too cruel. At least she wasn't like that anymore since they argued the first time back then. Crazy past times, but their opposite minds were the reason for their actual closeness and strong bond. Honoka loved Nagisa's good and bad moods.
What could be a good reason for stop sighing about her? Honoka couldn't think any reason and she really wanted to know one at least.
Both girls were together lying on the lawn, side by side, enjoying the spring breeze after school and waiting for grandma to call them for lunch.
Honoka really, really wanted a valid reason that could help her to stop thinking about her partner, but she really loved every single thing about Nagisa. The young girl glanced at her best friend. Nagisa was silent, just enjoying the moment with a smile on her lips and her eyes closed.
The reason Honoka tried too hard to think less about Nagisa was her own heart. Every day was like a dream, walking to the high school, sharing classes, laughing with their friends and going home after school was like a wonderful dream.
And then, watching an excited Nagisa effortless talking with Fujimura even before high school started, could be the signal that her beautiful dream was near to its end. The last two times they talked and Honoka got near to them in order to say hello to her childhood friend, Nagisa literally took Fujimura by his arm and asked Honoka to wait some minutes, then she walked further away with him. A confused Honoka had no choice but waiting for her best friend.
Nagisa never talked about her conversations with the young man, but she looked very happy after that.
A tiny voice inside Honoka's mind was telling her that Nagisa was ready to confess her feelings to Fujimura. Maybe this was her next step after she screamed her love in the amusement park the last Christmas? The same tiny voice was warning her to be prepared for the moment Nagisa did her thing and started to date Fujimura because...
Only a crazy person would reject Nagisa's feelings!
Fujimura could be pretty dense but never a fool!
Nagisa was wonderful in so many ways, not only her personality traits. Nagisa was beautiful, strong, nice, funny, friendly... Her expressive eyes, her big smile, her strong and warm hands, her bravery, her justice sense... Everything about her was marvelous! Honoka was aware of everything! The single thought of losing her friend was driving her crazy. Her tiny inner voice was pretty pessimistic, she wasn't going to lose Nagisa totally, but sharing less time with her made her feel sad in advance.
Honoka didn't want to be a selfish person, she wanted Nagisa to be happy. The problem was her romantic feelings towards her friend and the best solution was distancing herself from that feelings, holding onto something that made her think somehow less about Nagisa.
And she was failing like a champion.
"I can't believe this," Honoka mumbled after a deep sigh.
"Honoka?"
Yes, Nagisa was still there. Honoka blushed.
"Oh, it's nothing, I was just thinking about something."
"You've been tense lately, Honoka," Nagisa sat down to take a good look at her friend. She seemed fine, but something in her face was out of place. "We just started our first year in high school and you are already studying a lot, Honoka, you need a good rest," the girl nodded to mark her own words.
Honoka almost told her she was wrong but... Nagisa will be more worried, she really knew her. "Maybe you're in the correct and I need to relax more time."
"Ah! I knew it!" The lacrosse player exclaimed in horror. "Something is wrong with you!"
Nagisa's reaction made Honoka sat down too. "Wha-What are you talking about?"
"You never get tired when you study! You are like a crazy studying machine!" Nagisa accused with firm tone in her voice. "I still remember when you got the flu two weeks after graduation and you had scattered books all over your bed when I visited you! You were cranky because you wanted to go to the bookshop for that new book about plants. I had to buy it for you!"
"I..." Honoka gulped, Nagisa really knew her.
"You have something just there," she said and touched Honoka's forehead with her right index finger. "You can tell me anything you want. We are best friends, don't we?"
Honoka sighed. Of course she couldn't tell her the truth. "Don't worry, Nagisa. I'll be fine, just give some..."
Nagisa kept a straight eye at Honoka, then she smiled and took a card size gift out her pocket. "Maybe this could help."
Honoka opened the bright blue envelopment and smiled at her friend when she discovered the surprise inside. "Nagisa... This is..."
"You always wanted to go to this event, right?"
The gift was an entrance ticket for the International Botanical Exposition helded in Tokyo for the next weekend. "How did you know?"
"Senpai told me," Nagisa answered with a big smile. "And he helped me to get the ticket, the guys' soccer team had a match in Tokyo the past weekend."
"Oh, Nagisa..." Honoka was so happy. That was the reason Nagisa was talking alone with Fujimura! She couldn't resist anymore and hugged Nagisa, they both fell on the lawn again. "Thank you, thank you!"
"You're welcome," A happy Nagisa hugged Honoka too and even caressed her back with one hand.
"This is in advance for my birthday?"
"No," Nagisa stammered and cleared her throat. "I have something else for your birthday. This is for... Umm... Our anniversary..."
Honoka raised an eyebrow, only took her two seconds to take the hint and smiled even more. "Let me guess."
"Go ahead," a nervous Nagisa hid her face into Honoka neck.
"This is for the day we became Pretty Cure together."
"Correct!"
Nagisa awkwardly laughed, Honoka laughed too.
"I didn't prepare anything for this day like you, but... How about we go for the biggest chocolate parfait for you in that nice place in the downtown? My treat."
"Yes!"
They kept their hug and their happy smiles for some extra minutes.
Then Honoka did it, the happiness really overcame her.
"Happy Anniversary, Nagisa," and Honoka kissed Nagisa's check.
Nagisa screamed in a cute voice and hugged Honoka harder, unable to say something for three solid seconds. "I..."
"Thank you."
"You... You are very welcome, Honoka... I..." the lacrosse player cleared her throat, her voice sounded very shy, "and... You didn't tell me what you were thinking about."
Honoka smiled and pressed Nagisa lovingly against her body with both arms. "You... And all the things I like about you."
"Honoka!" Nagisa covered her face with both hands, trying to hide her embarrassment. "I can't believe this!"
