Hi everyone. Sorry for the irregular updates I have a massive writer's block. My own original work of fiction has yet to see another page since feb. this is a way for me to basically point out a few mistakes I often see in IC fanfics, continuity errors and plot holes in canon along with how they can be exploited and potential ideas for other fanfics which you are more than welcome to use on the condition I get a shout out and a personal message before you upload. I am aware this is not exactly a story and you are more than welcome to close it(hopefully ffnet doesn't take it down) but a lot of people need this because I am tired of seeing the same mistakes. Hopefully this will actually help someone and not just be me randomly ranting and poking holes in inheritance cycle.

Plot hole/potential story

the whole thing about there being only three dragon eggs is utter crap in my opinion. The forsworn's dragons may have become mindless beasts after the banishing of the names but that didn't mean they could not reproduce. There has got to be at least 2/3 female dragons in the 12 forsworn dragons and there is no way to know whether the banishing of the names would be hereditary or not. And with brom killing of his forsworn old galby would be desperate enough to try such a thing. We cant even say galby wouldn't stoop so low so as to do this. Shruikan is the proof of galby's madness.

Potentially in a fanfic a secret fourth or fifth rider could be revealed that had a dragon which was from a secret clutch of eggs one of the forworn's dragons had with shruikan. It would make for a great plot twist specially if murtagh had changed his true name prior to the battle or the new rider had infiltrated the warden camp earned the trust of eragon and company and then betrayed then either by choice or unwillingly(dark magic could be used to keep his/her identity as rider secret.) Especially if said rider fell in love with eragon for an eragon/oc story. I have nothing against eragon/arya and will mention the mistakes in how their relationship is portrayed in fanfics and explain arya's character in canon and their relationship in canon in depth if I get at least 4 reviews asking for it. But honestly its WAY TOO COMMON.

Common mistakes in fanfiction

okay there are a few very common mistakes that people do in post ic fanfics. I will start with arya and firnen as dragon and rider. Look I get that arya was more accomplished and more educated than eragon when he became a rider but still she would need training. Perhaps not in sword fighting and spell casting but her duties as a rider, the history of the riders, the spells and secrets of the riders, who taught her that? Even as an elvish princess she would not be privy to the secrets of the riders not to mention that she would have to understand and grow her bond as rider to firnen. These are things even the wisest and oldest elf like rhunon or gilderion the wise can teach her since they didn't learn it themselves. And oromis told eragon that he would have to compress decades of training and knowledge into months for eragon so can we really believe that eragon himself has learned all there is to learn in a few months let alone arya who was not actively training for war but running the elvish kingdom celebrating galbatoix's defeat and spending leisurely time with her friends. (Not to mention firnen and saphira were busy mating definitely not training.) So yes while arya is qualified enough to be the elvish queen and to train new riders to the level that brom trained eragon, after the order has expanded and there are a good number of riders she is not qualified to have a place in the rider council until she completes her training. Arya is not perfect people. And if the elven monarch knows all the riders' secrets or the riders only know a handful of things that the elves don't then I wonder how the rider order was so glorious after all. A few fanfics mention a few eldunarya being left behind for arya's training but no such thing was mentioned in canon and the eldunarya can only share memories. Sort of verbal teaching but not physical teaching scenario if you understand. One final thing before we move on. Remember arya may be a revered figure from the war or be loved as an elvish queen but she has no accomplishments as a dragon rider in canon. You cannot say she and firnen are a great dragon rider pair or a legendary dragon rider pair unless you can cook up a few tales where they collectively achieved something impossible.

Now lets talk about their distance and how much they will communicate before we move on to their relationship. I am gonna be completely blunt and say it I do not agree with fanfics where they stay isolated & out of contact with each other for a 100-200-350-1000 something years before they meet up. I love a millennial entry as much as anyone but it cant be farther from the truth. Hear me out please don't close it already. Just the fact that eragon is the lead rider and arya the elvish queen means they will have to interact on a weekly/monthly basis purely out of duty. Arya's sense of duty is far too strong(something which I will elaborate when I explain her character) and eragon even if heartbroken will not shirk his duty as lead rider so long as saphira and the eldunarya are there to remind him about it. Some fanfics state that it would be too hard for eragon to look at arya knowing they could not be together but that is utter crap too. Its not as if the one who sits on the knotted throne must sit on it for their whole life at all costs. Arya became queen because the elven kingdom needed stability after the war but 50 years/100 years/250 years the realm will be stable enough that arya would no longer be needed. She could abdicate whenever she wants and both arya and eragon know that. Which is why I think they will keep in touch to maintain their friendship and with the hope that one day they could be together.

There is one more thing we need to address before their relationship however. Arya's role in an eragon less alegaisa. To those fanfics that state she will be completely tied to the elvish throne not doing any rider work at all except for training the hatchlings I humbly want to ask are you stupid? Arya's sense of duty is an essential part of her character. It is literally the greatest part of her true name and one of her core values. Do you really think she would shirk her duties as a rider. She promised eragon in canon that she will patrol the land and help maintain the peace when she thought eragon was rebuilding the rider order in alegasia, after knowing that he has left and that she is the only rider in alegasia how will she sleep at night if she shirks her duties? There is no way she agreed to become a queen if that meant she couldn't be a rider. She has the yawe to remind her of her duty to elvish nation and she has the gedwey ignasia to remind her of her duties to order of the riders not to mention firnen a freaking dragon who is NOT gonna contently sit behind her throne in a council meeting the whole day for years.

Now onto their relationship. We have already established they will stay in contact and will most likely continue their friendship. Neither will fall for someone else so long as they know the other is waiting for him/her. When they reunite how slow or fast they take it depends upon you but I feel they will naturally take it slow. Firstly unless arya abdicates they both know they cant be at least for the time being. Talking through mirrors is one thing and living with someone is another so it is believable that they will take a week or a month or two to get reacquainted with each other. Just why they have reunited, how, where and in what circumstances also makes a huge difference. Write their relationship as you see fit but remember arya wont neglect her duty to be with eragon nor will she allow him to, arya is not a swooning maiden and will not be charmed by a chiseled jawline or six-pack abs nor is she big on public displays of affection like kissing him in public or calling him stupid things like 'my love' 'my darling' 'my husband/mate', she will be aware that anything they have is temporary and will act as such, and in case of war she will intentionally distance herself from him and be cold if need be to prevent distracting him.

Now with all of that out of the way lets get to the actual plot. Where the new order is situated or what is the name of the city is upto you but remember it is supposed to be a replacement for vroenguard island as it is poisoned(which is stupid in its own right tbh. Like eragon with hundreds of eldnarya, all the elvish magicians and the name of all names cannot clean the island's poison? Really? Are you kidding me?) it will have riders from all races however it is not predictable just who the dragons hatch for so plotlines like there being more elvish riders than any other race or very few dwarves and urgals being chosen because the dragons are a little wary of them are very much possible and could create tension and drama for the plot. There is no point of writing a post ic fanfiction if you don't introduce new stuff. New characters, new powers, new spells, new enemies. If you stick to the same things it wont be interesting. Please introduce new stuff to keep things fresh.

Okay this is getting a bit too long I will write a part two including things like what could be the new powers, who could be the next villain, should you use an oc or eragon as main character, the kind of structure the rider order could have, all about murtagh and nasuada amongst other things. Its 1:35am please please don't tell that no one read this or that no one derived any sort of value from this. I will cry (author silently cries in the corner for 12 minutes) also I have been reading asoiaf and got fanfics to get over my writer's block hoping to get ideas and I did get a few ideas. I wouldn't mind a beta reader or assistant of sorts to help me with facts. Gods know how many houses there are and high valyrian or the ancient language are a headache of their own. Anyway, I only recently found out about the elder scrolls series and I really really want to write an ic/skyrim, asoiaf/skyrim as well as a ic/asoiaf/skyrim crossover but my elder scrolls knowledge is kinda lacking. I know the main story line of skyrim and the dragonborn and have been playing elder scrolls blades since march having completed all questlines except for the invitational tournament but other than that not so much. From 23 I have summer break till July so next month will have multiple updates on both my stories. Hope you liked it. Your review helps me defeat writers block so please please review.
