Heyyaa pretties!! Here is a Clace oneshot. Again this starting line was given to me by a friend of mine, when I asked him to give me a wierd first line for a story. The thing is, he did give a very wierd line. So I hope I made a decent story out of it. Enjoy reading!
"I hate it when toasters start screaming and then chickens rain from the sky." Clary groaned out when she was woken up from her weird dream by the beep of her alarm clock, or maybe by toasters. Who knows. Why do mornings even exist?
"Angels! My daughter has been possessed by aliens." Jocelyn was saying in the kitchen.
"Don't worry Ms. Fairchild. This is the sign that she is herself. If maybe she had walked perfectly fine out of bed, that might have been the signs of an alien possession," a third voice was heard from the kitchen.
"Well not everyone can be a ray of sunshine like you weirdo. And mom I had a DREAM!" Clary called out in her drowsy voice. "Where chickens were raining, and the toasters woke me up." She muttered the last part not meaning for it to be heard but both the people heard it anyway. The kitchen was not very far from her room.
"I don't think a normal kid is capable of dreaming that." Jocelyn said in a really serious tone. " Yes, I think she needs medical treatment immediately." The third person continued after her.
"Can I get my coffee please? And what the hell is he doing here?" Clary asked irritated, as she walked to the table and sat down groggily.
"We were going to the farmhouse, remember shortstuff?" Jace asked, coming out of the kitchen to sit in front of Clary, who huffed at the nickname Jace called her so very often and started whining, "Too early."
Clary looked up at him and saw his brightly shinning golden eyes that always managed to startle her with their vibrance and beauty. But for now, they were just too bright for the morning. She had known Jace since childhood as his aunt lived nearby and he came to visit often. As kids, they used to fight a lot. It was mostly teasing and name calling. The frenemy type. But they had grown closer as they grew up.
Shortstuff and midget became terms of endearment and teasing and joking became their normal routine. A month ago, Jace permanently shifted to New York for college and Clary had been all fluffy inside by the thought of him living nearby.
"Hey! It's not early at all. Did you even see the time? It's freaking 9 in the morning. We were supposed to reach by 8. You didn't show up and weren't picking your phone. So I came by to pick you up and I get to know the girl is still sleeping." Jace said in a faked exasperated voice.
"Okay okay. I am getting ready. Just 10 minutes."
As Clary rushed to her room she heard Jace asking if she had chosen what to wear. Well, of course she had. They had been preparing for this trip for so long. Clary had saved all her best outfits for it. She was just too excited. This was the first time she would go somewhere with Jace. Also it would be nice to get out of the city for once. A change of scenery would be appreciated.
The farmhouse was Luke's. He loved the old farmhouse in upstate New York. He had bought and restored it himself and it was a beautiful place.
Clary quickly changed into a breezy t-shirt and shorts while thinking how long it had been since she went there. The last time she had gone there was when she was eight maybe. When she walked out, Jace sighed. "Finally. Let's go."
He walked to his jeep humming a tune. Clary loved his open jeep. It was just the definition of freedom. The feeling of the whipping wind on her face, the scenery, the music, she loved it all. All the way to the destination, they sang songs. No scratch that, they screamed the lyrics at the top of their voices like the crazy idiots they were.
They finally arrived at the farmhouse at the entrance of which they found a grumbling Alec, completely soaked in water. "The farmhouse has been hijacked by psychos." He warned the two before they entered, and the crazy people that they were, they went to check it out. True to his words, it had indeed been taken control of by the psychos.
Buckets of water were being thrown around. People were running all around the place. It was chaos. Magnus's bucket contained sparkled water if that's even a thing. Isabelle was looking as elegant as ever, even though her hair were dripping wet. Simon was playing guitar by the side as if nothing out of the ordinary was happening.
Maia and Jordon were trying to hide from Izzy and Magnus. Only they seemed like sane people to Clary. But what could she say, she was one of the insane ones. She rushed to find a bucket of water, fueled by the energy around her. Jace meanwhile placed a hand on his heart in mock hurt and said, "It seems like the party was started without us."
His words were greeted with a bucket of water from Izzy and they ran around for a while like little kids chasing each other. Clary was having the time of her life. She didn't think she had had so much fun in her life. At last, when they had forcefully dragged Alec in and had soaked each other as well as the farmhouse completely, they settled down at one place exhausted.
"Do you know, there are so many cute animals in here!" Maia was telling. She had always been an animal lover. "There are those little rabbits, chickens, even birds. And there is a pond with really cute ducks."
"Cute?!" Jace asked in outrage. "Huh? What's wrong with cute?" Clary asked. "Are you kidding me? Ducks aren't cute. They are evil, cannibalistic, malevolent beasts that shouldn't be trusted, ever. Don't get captivated by their outer appearance."
Izzy burst out laughing while Clary just stared at Jace dumbfounded. Alec was grinning, a rare occasion. Magnus let out a knowing smile. Maia and Jordon were snickering as well.
"Anyways, leaving this duck hating wierdo aside, we need to prepare food too. Lunch time is close by. Should I go and start preparing?" Izzy asked them. Immediately, a chorus a 'no's' were heard and the girls dragged Izzy to see animals. Clary turned back and called out, "Jace, you are on cooking duty. Boys help him." The girls then fled, leaving the boys in a crisis. Only Maia turned back and gave them a pitiful look.
As boys did their best to prepare food with only Jace's little culinary skills at hand, the girls cooed over the cute animals.
Surprisingly, Izzy wasn't very good with animals. Whenever one tried to come near her, she shoed it away. Clary had always loved the animals of Luke's farmhouse. She had even named many of them.
She introduced them to the girls. "I really love these rabbits. These pure white ones are Snowball and Lilly. One of them is a female. The one with a black patch is Oreo and the grey one is Joey ." She was proud of her names when the girls coed at the rabbits.
They also went to the pond to see the ever cute ducks whom Jace criticized so rudely. Clary almost wanted to apologize to them about Jace's behaviour.
They then went to the chicken coop where Clary tried to stay away from the chickens. They had never liked her. She didn't know why. They would gnaw and bite at her, whenever they can reach. The girls were trying to catch them while Clary walked to the nearby tree and stood in its shade. It was really hot after all. It seemed the sun was showering all its blessings to the max.
When they started moving forward, Clary remembered that Luke had asked her to feed the chickens. Damn it! Why didn't she remember this before? She could've asked the girls then but now no one will go back. "Guys, you go ahead. I forgot that I had to feed the chickens."
"Angels please. Just this once. Get them to like me." Clary said, thinking how people pray for their crush to like them, and how she was praying for the chickens to like her.
But hell woyld freeze over before the angels ever listened to her. As soon as Clary came in the vicinity of them, they started crowding around her and biting her. Clary backed away in panic. The farm was flooded because of their mad outburst with water earlier, and as she walked backwards trying to avoid the chickens, she slipped and hit her head hard.
She groaned in pain and felt something warm coming out, blood, as she held her head in her hands. The surroundings began blurring and she was swallowed into the darkness. She didn't know how many minutes, how many hours she stayed in that infinite darkness.
When she came to, she was lying on something soft, not the hard cold ground. Probably in a bedroom at the farmhouse. She felt something warm in her hands. She tried to open her eyes but the brightness hurt. When she finally adjusted to the light, she noticed that she was lying in the guestroom and Jace was sitting beside the bed in a chair. The warmth she had felt was him holding her hand. He was sleeping peacefully with his head beside their hands with intertwined fingers.
She squeezed his hand lightly. He was even more beautiful sleeping. She unconsciously brushed his hair back from his eyes.
Clary had always thought that if there was any person who was perfect in this world, it had to be Jace. With his God-like looks, the blonde hair and those tawny eyes, he was a golden boy, oozing out brightness and sunshine.
Jace snuggled against her hand and Clary jumped at the sudden action. She only realized Jace was awake when he let out a chuckle.
"How are you feeling? Do you have a concussion? Feeling heavy in the head? How many fingers are these?" He started asking in a concerned voice. Clary flushed at the thought that he was worried about her.
"I am fine. It's alright." Clary said, trying to reassure him. He kissed the back of her hand and she blushed furiously. "Don't scare me like that, you klutz." Clary just nodded, not able to speak anything.
"Can you get up?" Jace asked, giving her a hand. "I am fine, I told u. My head is just a little sore. It's not like my surroundings are spinning." Clary joked. " Okay then, you should drink some water. We will be starting barbeque soon."
Clary's face lit up at the word 'barbeque' and Jace grinned at the reaction. She got up slowly and went outside with Jace walking just beside her in case she didn't feel good.
Outside was almost a festive like mood. Everyone was busy setting things up. Izzy and Simon were bantering over which music to play. Maia was setting the side dishes. Alec and Jordon were checking the lightings around whereas Magnus was doing nothing, sitting there like he owned the place.
Clary let out a delighted squeal when she saw the barbeque setting and everyone turned their attention to her. It seemed that they all were worried about her because she had to tell them almost a million times that she was fine, while Jace watched from the sidelines, amused at the whole situation.
It had a while since she had enjoyed so much. She ate and song with everyone, cracking jokes and and doing ridiculous dares, though she didn't dance because her head still hurt a little.
They stayed up till late at night and when everything was packed up and they all escaped to their respective rooms, exhausted and done for the day, she was still sitting there, enjoying the silence.
She had always found a solace being out at night among the stars. It refreshed her more than sleep ever could. "Clary?" She heard a voice behind her.
She knew without turning that it was Jace. She quickly tied her hair in a knot because she knew she looked like a ghost. But Jace stopped her, saying, "It looks way better when you let them down."
Clary blushed as red as her hair and she was glad it was dark out there. He came and sat behind her. There was silence for a few minutes.
"How was today?" he asked turning to her. "Though I missed half of it," she said snuggling her knees, and then smiling. "It wasn't bad at all. I guess not all of your ideas are trash Mr. Herondale."
Jace grinned at her lopsidedly, the one she loved so much. "But you did not dance." He said, making his adorable puppy face. Clary always found it so cute that she just wanted to keep squeezing his cheeks forever.
"I wouldn't have been able to at that time." She said and Jace suddenly stood up. "Then let's dance now." Clary knew Jace just wanted her to experience everything but this was something else.
"How will we dance now?" She said staring at Jace. But instead of replying he just pulled her up from her sitting position. He took out his phone and played a song.
Her favourite song to be exact. Perfect by Ed Sheeran.
"May I have this dance?" He said bowing down and offering his hand. Clary stared dumbfoundedly at him, her mouth opening like a fish with no sound coming out.
She hesitantly gripped Jace's outstretched hand and they began to slow dance. She was so flustered that she kept staring down to avoid Jace from looking at her.
"Look at me Clary." And with those words, Clary died and went to heaven.
They danced for what felt like hours but were only minutes. She was lost in the song. And in Jace. He sang the whole song, looking directly at her. They didn't say anything but it all showed in their eyes.
"She is perfect."
"I love him."
If she had danced before, they might not have had this moment, which Clary would think to be the best moment of her life later on.
So, Clary thought.
"Maybe I was luckily unlucky."
So, how was it? Please read and review. I seriously love reading what you think. And yes, it is really cheesy, but please bear with it.
Two more things. First, there was this guest named Kaitlyn who asked about my story 'The Beauty of this World'. So if you are reading this, I am really glad you liked my story but sorry it was just a oneshot. Though you can try 'Random acts of Kindness' by 'Elizabeth Gray' here on fanfiction. It's really good.
Second, if you guys have read my story 'Linked Fates', I am sorry guys I haven't updated in a while. School started and I am really really busy. But I am gonna update soon.
And if you haven't read my other stories, please give them a try.
