Hey Guys. It's Zi here. This is a new fic I have been working on for a while. I am a sucker for Detective books and stories so I gotta write one for myself. This is a mortal AU obvio. Acc. To my plans, there will be 3 books for the Sleuth Series. This one will just be an intro like you know, showing off Percy's skills. Might take only 10 chapters. The next 2 books will feature some of Percy's past and all that stuff. This book will have no pairing but the next two books in the series will be Pertemis. If anyone is offended by how Percy is portrayed, then you can stop reading. I ain't doing this to get followers and favorites stuff. I am doing this because I love writing.
My Fav Detective books/series: Hercule Poirot, Sherlock Holmes, Teahouse Detective, Miss Marple, Dupin Series
Quick Note: The next update will be that Of Broken in Marriage. I have got so many messages to update. I apologize for making you all wait. Also, the pairing poll is closed and Artemis smashed Nyx by a huge margin. So Its gonna be Pertemis but for all those who voted for Nyx, Percy will interact with her in some part of the timeline and maybe even hook up but the ultimate pairing will be Pertemis. Now onto the Story!
Disclaimer: I do NOT OWN Percy Jackson Series or Heroes of Olympus Series. If I did, Percy would be an Olympian and married to Artemis with triplets on the way.
Caution: Use of swear words and rated T just to be safe.
PS: If you find any grammar mistakes or corrections please let me know. English is my second language, so I may tend to make some mistakes. This is also my first time writing anything other than exams and assignments so please do leave suggestions to improve my writing style.
Enjoy
There's the scarlet thread of murder running through the colorless skein of life, and our duty is to unravel it, and our duty is to unravel it, isolate it, and expose every inch of it.
Prologue
"Rockstar Luke Castellan Murdered! Jason Grace, lead singer of the famous band 'The Seven' arrested and detained."
The headline of The New York Times glared at Chiron as the man sipped his coffee.
Chiron was a middle-aged man with thinning brown hair, bushy eyebrows, intense brown eyes, and a scruffy beard. He was dressed in a brown pinstripe suit and brown dress pants. A frown marred his face as he continued to read the headline, hoping it would change by his sheer will.
"Something must be done, Mr. Di Angelo. We need a man who can prove Jason's innocence." Chiron said, breaking his silence as his hands gripped the newspaper so tightly that veins started to pop up.
A man with olive skin turned from the window, the rays of sun illuminating his pale face. He wore a black hoodie and similar black jeans. A black trench coat hung from his shoulder as he took out a cigarette from his pocket. His hands shook, making it hard to light the cigarette with a lighter. He pressed the end to his pale lips and then exhaled. Coughing out, he spoke, "You sure it's not him? Everything points straight at Grace."
"I asked him myself. He didn't do that!" Chiron said.
"If people truthfully admitted to murder, there would be no need for detectives or police, Chiron." Sassed Nico with a straight face as he took another puff.
Chiron continued, ignoring Nico's comment, "I need someone who can handle things discreetly. A person who can sniff out the murderer before it gets too far. The media's having a field day as it is. This needs to stop as soon as possible."
Nico raised his eyebrow and asked, "You know if it's not Grace, then the suspicion falls on the rest too. Sales will drop. Concerts will be cancelled. You sure you want that? Why not just kick him out and be done with it?"
Chiron met his gaze and answered in a cold voice, "Because He is innocent."
Nico grinned as he flicked out the cigarette to the street through the open window. "A man with a Sense of Justice… I like it. I got a man for you. He's a bit queer with his ideas but damn! He's a brilliant fellow."
Chiron raised an eyebrow in hope. "Brilliant enough to find the culprit?"
Nico grinned ferally, "Brilliant enough to win the Sloan Memorial Award 7 times in a row. Trust me, He's the man for you. I will let you know the details soon."
Chiron stood up, straightened his suit, and said, "I hope you won't disappoint..." And strolled out of the room with graceful steps.
Nico lighted another cigarette as he gazed out at the shrill and meager streets of New York, as he recollected the words, a wise man once said to him.
There is no such thing as a mystery in connection with any crime, provided intelligence is brought to bear upon its investigation.
Nico tossed out another cigarette as he summoned his chauffeur Jules-Albert and informed him to prepare a cab to the Eclipse Towers.
Things are about to get interesting, thought Nico as he departed for the journey.
Grover watched as Percy took his bottle of Statesman Whiskey. With his long delicate fingers, he poured himself a glass and sat back on his comfy armchair as he took a long sip of it.
"Smooth." Remarked Percy and he gestured one to Grover. "You want some?" He asked his companion.
Grover sighed and uttered a quick 'No', to which Percy shrugged and poured himself another glass.
Four times a day for many months, Grover had witnessed this, but it didn't make it any less irritating. The sight of Percy wasting himself on whiskey and cocaine angered Grover. But he lacked the courage to protest. His great powers, his masterly manner, and the experience with how he dealt with stuff made Grover both diffident and backward in crossing him.
Percy was well over six feet and had a fit muscular body. His eyes were sharp and piercing, save for the intervals when he was occupied with syringes and bottles. His thin hawk-like nose gave his whole expression an air of alertness and decision. His chin had the prominence and squareness which mark the man of determination.
He was excellent at deducing stuff not visible to the naked eye. Grover still remembers the time when he spewed out his full details with just a glance at him.
However, like everyone else he wasn't perfect. The addiction to drugs and alcohol made him far from perfect. He wasn't sure what caused this but considering his school records and other stuff he keeps with him as a treasure, proves that this change occurred somewhere along the road.
Maybe it was because of losing someone. Grover didn't have the guts to ask him about his past but whenever the topic was at discussion, Percy's face would turn dark and cold, warning the person to drop the topic at once.
'He is an enigma.' Grover thought to himself. The man who solves mysteries was one himself. Grover couldn't even write two pages about him, save for his appearance and habits.
Everyone who met Grover told him he had a sharp eye and great senses but even after living with Percy for 4 months, he couldn't even figure out his last name.
He's just known as Percy. J. Some call him PJ. But no one knows his actual last name. Grover remembers the conversation he had with Percy regarding his last name. He had asked multiple times but he just had one answer.
It's just Percy. J.
Grover's train of thoughts was interrupted when Percy's assistant, Calypso barged in.
"Mr. Di Angelo is here to see you, sir."
Percy closed the bottle as he gestured Calypso to call him in. He gazed at her back as she walked ahead of him. She was deliberately swinging her hips, giving him a good show.
Grover rolled his eyes. That girl practically worshipped Percy.
Percy grinned as he averted his eyes and said to Grover.
"Don't need to bother yourself with making me breakfast Grover, for I believe what Nico brings will fill my tummy up.
So that's it for the prologue guys. Slow updates as always. I know the chapter is short but last week was hectic and this was all I could cook up.
Signing Off for now…
Zi.
