This is my first Waterloo Road fic so it might be bad so I apologise if it is. I'm not sure if I will leave this as a one shot or try and write more chapters to it.

Set in Series 4. Philip is close to Rachel and Eddie and Melissa is around. Ava is a pupil that has got close to Rachel over time and Rachel is like a mother figure to Ava. Rachel and Eddie are together but taking it slow, no one knows they are together except Philip and Ava. Melissa likes Eddie and wants him for herself.

Rachel, Eddie, Philip and Ava are in school talking in Rachel's office, the bell rings for the first lesson of the day, Philip heads off with Eddie for Maths and Ava as well. During the Maths lesson Melissa is loitering around Eddie's classroom trying to catch a glimpse of him as she likes him. Ava spots Melissa staring at Eddie with the look of liking him in her eyes. She turns to Philip…

"Philip does you mum not realise that Eddie doesn't like her?"

"No she doesn't but even if she did doubt that would stop her to be honest"

Ava puts her hand up, "Sir, can you get rid of Melissa from outside the classroom she is distracting and some of us want to learn?"

Eddie notices Melissa outside his classroom and Melissa notices this and her face lights up.

Eddie goes outside into the corridor where Melissa is standing. "Melissa what the hell are you doing out here I'm trying to teach my class and you are distracting them and me?"

"I just wanted to see you Eddie and get a look at you (stepping nearer and playing with his shirt) I like you and want to be with you so thought I would come and see you"

(Eddie taking a step backwards away from Melissa) "Melissa what the hell? I have no interest in you or want to be with you. It's never going to happen in a million years, why can't you get that through your thick head?"

Ava has had enough of trying to do her work when they can hear the conversation happening outside so stands up and turns to Philip. "Phil I'm sorry for what is about to happen or could happen to Melissa, I know she is your mum"

"Ava she may be my mum but she deserves whatever is coming to her"

Ava walks outside the classroom into the corridor where Eddie and Melissa are. "Oh, look who it is some girl who thinks she has got close to her adoring sister and can be like a daughter to my sister. Let me tell you something Ava, my adoring sister Rachel has no maternal instincts and is not cut out to be a mum so she is not the best person to look out for you"

Ava snaps "Like you are the best person Melissa to talk about being a mum and having maternal instincts when all you do is leave Philip, and can't bear to see Rachel happy, like how you asked her if she is happy or how she is? All you care about is your happiness and what you want. You want Eddie and will do anything to make Eddie like you and be with you, even though he has told you he is not interested. Get this into your head Melissa, Eddie. Is. Not. Interested. In. You. And. Never. Will. Be"

Melissa is angry by this point. "Do you honestly think you can tell me what to do and that I care about Rachel when all she is, is a prostitute and a slapper and all she ever will be!" Eddie steps in "Hey! Don't talk about Rachel like that!" "Wait! You know about her past?"

"Melissa the whole school knows about Rachel's past and you know what we don't care it makes no difference to us, Rachel is the best person and head to run this school, and if you can't accept that then I suggest you leave the premises and don't come back" (Ava fires back at her)

"Fine I will go but your precious head is nothing but a slapper and always will be." Ava has lost her temper by this point. "Hey Melissa what gives you the right to say that eh?" "It's the truth though Ava!" "You know what Melissa I hate you and you have no right to say that about Rachel is she not a slapper or her past, she is loving, caring, always puts the kids needs first and above hers. I couldn't think of a better person to be charge of this school"

"You would say that, but are you sure she still isn't a slapper or that she isn't trying to turn you into one?" Melissa then turns and starts to walk away. Ava is angry now and this statement and storms after Melissa and grabs her arm, spinning her round to face her. "I'm not wasting my time on you anymore but there is one more thing I have to do" Melissa laughing at this, "oh yeah, what would that be then?" Ava gives a little laugh and a smirk, "This Melissa" and raises a hand and slaps Melissa hard round the face.

Eddie walks over to Ava. "Ava, cooler now!" Ava walks over to the cooler, Philip comes out and Melissa tries to play the wounded soldier act. "Mum I don't want to hear your excuses, you deserved all of that, what was you thinking of trying to distract us during lesson time eh?" "Phil, am I not allowed to come see you during lessons then?" "Mum don't lie! You know full well you ain't hear to see me, you are here to watch Eddie and try and get him to notice you." Eddie turns to Phil "Phil mate, it's ok go and get Miss Mason as she needs to be here to deal with this situation"

Phil walks off to go get Miss Mason just as the bell rings. As Eddie's class leave the room Eddie turns to Melissa "Get into my classroom and we can deal with this situation." Meanwhile Philip turns up at Rachel's office and goes in. "Hi Phil, what you doing here? What's up?" "Erm… Eddie, sorry Mr Lawson sent me to get you. Ava just got into an argument with mum and slapped her." "Right. Where is Ava and Mr Lawson now?" "Ava is in the cooler and Mr Lawson is in his classroom with mum I think" "Come on then, let's go and sort this out Phil"

Rachel and Philip walk from Rachel's office to Eddie's Maths Classroom. "Rach, we all know what mum is like when she sets her sights on someone and obviously she doesn't know about you and Eddie. I know it's my decision but maybe you should tell her or make it obvious you and Eddie are together so she backs off." "Phil let me talk and run it past Eddie first but it could be an idea." Outside Eddie's Maths room Phil goes in to wait with his mum and Eddie goes outside to talk to Rachel. "Eddie Phil told me what Ava did." "Rach, I know Melissa is your sister but she did deserve it to be honest and I think that Ava was trying to protect you." "I know, I know, let's sort this out with Melissa and then I will go talk to her." Eddie takes a step closer to Rachel. "Phil said something else to you on your walk here didn't he?" "How do you know?" "Rach, you forget that I know you" "You do Eddie, better than anyone" "Ok, yes he did" Looking up at Eddie and playing with his collar "Phil said that we should think about telling Melissa about us or make it obvious we together. It might make her back off pining over you" Eddie places his hand on Rachel's shoulder. "Rach I know how you feel about telling people, so if you want to tell Melissa about us or make it obvious to her we are together then that is fine with me"

Eddie runs his hand down Rachel's arm and takes hold of her hand and gives it a squeeze. Rachel squeezes his hand back. "Maybe try and make it obvious we are together to her and if that doesn't work then tell her, but I don't think she will believe us Eddie" "Rach we will make her believe us, and if she doesn't then I can always do this in front of her" Eddie kisses Rachel's forehead. Rachel smiles at Eddie. "Come on Eddie let's go and talk to her". Rachel and Eddie enter the classroom where Philip and Melissa are waiting. "Melissa what are you doing up here trying to distract or catch a glimpse of Eddie during his lesson eh?" "Nothing I came up here to see Philip on my way to see you Rach" Eddie takes a seat on the table opposite where Melissa is and motions to Rachel to join him. "Melissa we all know that is a lie, when you wasn't watching Philip, you was watching me as you are pining over me for some reason and think that I like you and want to be with you" Rachel leans into Eddie as he places his arm round her waist. As Melissa notices this she scowls and turns her head briefly while staying quiet. "Mum, for god sake will you just admit the truth and then realise that Eddie doesn't have feelings for you and never will". Melissa looks to Phil "Ok, ok Phil, fine yes I came up here to watch Eddie and hoping I could catch his eye and he could see that I like him and want him". "Melissa why? Pretty obvious Eddie doesn't like you and never will" Eddie moves his hand from Rachel's waist to round her shoulders. Melisa notices this and her face instantly changes. "Oh what Rach? Because you two are together and you don't want me stealing him from you?!"

"Melissa you could never steal Eddie as he isn't yours to steal and he doesn't like you, so why don't you do us all a favour and leave the school and leave us alone?" Rachel was fairly annoyed at this point with Melissa so lashed out to her sister. Melissa looks around at Rachel and Eddie leaning into each other and Philip and realises that she isn't needed or particularly wanted there. Melissa stands up "fine I'll go I know I'm not wanted here, and Philip I hope you are happy with Rachel seeing as you don't want me around" and walks out the classroom.

Rachel and Eddie stand up and look at each other then turn to Philip. "Phil I'm sorry that happened and that your mum has left you, you know you can stay with me for as long as you like and Eddie popping round as well". "Rach this is what mum does though isn't it, doesn't care about me and abandons me when she feels like it. At least I have you looking out for me, and if the offer is still I would like to live with you and Ava and have Eddie around". Rachel walks over to Philip, and gently touches his shoulder, "that's absolutely fine, why don't you go to my office and wait there for us while we go and talk to Ava in the cooler eh?" Phil nods and heads off in the direction of Rachel's office. Rachel and Eddie leave the classroom and head off to the classroom to talk to Ava. Walking side by side on the way to the cooler, Eddie reaches for Rachel's hand and interlocks their fingers, and gives it a squeeze. "Rach you know that wasn't your fault back there with Melissa don't you and what Ava said and did to Melissa, she was just looking out for you and trying to protect you. Don't be too harsh on her". Rachel stops and turns towards Eddie, "I won't be harsh on her I know she was just trying to protect me and maybe Melissa did deserve it, we will just go in and talk to Ava together, but she won't face any punishment". A smile grows on Eddie's face and he looks to Rachel; "together? You want me in there with you talking to Ava? You sure?" Rachel smiles at Eddie "of course I'm sure and yes together, you are part of my family now you soppy sod and plus Ava and Phil like you and having you around just like I do" Rachel leans up and kisses Eddie, "Come on let's get in there and talk to Ava then we can all go home"

Rachel and Eddie enter the cooler and see Ava sitting at a desk. Ava looks up as they enter the cooler. Rachel walks over and leans on the table in front of where Ava is sitting. "Eddie told me you slapped Melissa". Ava looks at Rachel with a slight smirk on her face. "Yes I did and she deserved it after what she was trying to do", "I know but doesn't mean you should have hit her" (Rachel looks away then looks back at Ava with a slight smirk on her face) "I never said this but nice one for slapping Melissa, but you know we don't condone violence at this school". "I know Rachel and Eddie I'm sorry, I will face whatever consequences you decide". Eddie walks over to where Rachel and Ava are, and leans on the table in front of Ava and next to Rachel, Eddie nudges Rachel slightly with a smile on his face before turning back to Ava "you won't face any consequences, I know you was just looking out for all of us especially Rachel, and for that I'm grateful so thank you". Rachel stands up and offers her hand to Eddie, which Eddie takes and Rachel pulls him up, they turn to Ava. Eddie looks to Ava "Come on you, let's head back to Rachel's office and meet Philip". Ava stands up and heads off to Rachel's office with Rachel and Eddie following behind hand in hand.

When Ava walks into Rachel's office with Rachel and Eddie following Philip walks over to her and hugs her. "Thank you for what you did back there with mum, she deserved it". Ava looks up at Philip "you're welcome she totally deserved it after pining for Eddie and you don't need her Phil, you have us and we will always be here for you (looks to Rachel and Eddie) won't we?" Rachel and Eddie walk over to them; Rachel puts a hand on Philip's shoulder "Phil you know you will always have us for as long as you want", Phil looks at them with tears in his eyes, "thank you guys". Eddie walks over to them all, "come on guys let's go home". Philip and Ava start making their way outside leaving Rachel and Eddie alone in the office, Rachel walks to Eddie and wraps her arms round Eddie's neck while his goes to Rachel's waist, "so home eh? All of us together under one roof now are we?" Rachel breaks out into a massive smile and a slight laugh, which to Eddie is the best thing he could hear, Eddie starts smiling and laughing "yes all of us under one roof that's all I want Rach, I know I may have unintentionally moved myself in here but I couldn't think of anything I want more, me and you living together with Philip and Ava. Eddie rests his forehead against Rachel's. "One big happy family, that's all I want Rach, I love you and Phil and Ava". Rachel looks up at Eddie with a big smile on her face "you Lawson are a soppy sod" Eddie laughs "I may well be but don't forget I am your soppy sod Mason" "That you are Lawson but I love you too". Eddie looks down to Rachel with a smile on his face and kisses Rachel which Rachel responds to. Rachel breaks the kiss then taps Eddie's arms, "come on Lawson let's go meet the kids and go home" Eddie smiles "yes, let's". They leave Rachel's office and walk through the school to meet Philip and Ava by the car hand in hand.
