"Good idea to grab lunch before the lunchtime rush Hugo! That place was filing up quickly just now."
"What can I say? I like to plan ahead. And I've told you before, you can call me Drift. Everyone else does."
"And by everyone, you mean me and a few select individuals."
"Yeah well… It'll catch on eventually. Everyone calls Suguha by her hero name, so why can't I be called by mine?"
"That's because I introduce myself as Leafa. Maybe you should introduce yourself as Drift rather than Daniel Hugo."
The Sunday lunchtime rush had just begun and Tokyo was bustling with people looking for something to eat. Six familiar individuals walked down the footpath, no clear destination in mind. The blue Humanoid hedgehog of the group chuckled to himself.
"Sorry. Force of habit. Hugo is easier to remember than Drift is." He pointed at Leafa. "Maybe you should take her advice. It works for me."
"Maybe that's because it's the only name you give people to call you by "Sonic." Drift jabbed playfully. The other hedgehog Humanoid (Pink in colour.) rolled her eyes.
"That's because he doesn't have a family name to be called by."
"Alright. That's enough." Everyone glanced to their voluptuous fox-themed class president as she spoke. "We're here to relax after our internships, not argue over names." She smiled to herself." Is there anywhere else you guys want to go? Our train back to Mustafu is at four so we still have a few hours to kill."
"I wouldn't mind checking out Akihabara. There's a few shops I want to check out, see if any of them have the anime figure I'm looking for." Rox's mouth morphed into a cheeky grin. "Maybe we can find one of you Ahri and we can put it on display back in the classroom!" Ahri spluttered before turning red in embarrassment.
"I-I don't think I'm a b-big enough idol for that kind of stuff! Besides, they'd need my permission to do something like that!"
"You never know…" Rox said in a sing-song voice. "There could be a well-made rip-off model of you somewhere out there."
"So, are we going to Akihabara or not?" Amy decided to save Ahri from the teasing and bring the conversation back on track. "It's a fair ways away, so we should go now if we want the time to fully look around." Sonic smirked to himself.
"Afraid you'll miss out on some limited edition "Hello Kitty" merch if we're not quick enough?" Amy whirled around to face him, a glare on her face.
"Enough with the teasing!" The glare shut him up rather quickly. He knew she was going to have a word with him about that comment later. "What is with you guys today?"
"Chillout Rose. We're just in a good mood." Rox waved her and dismissively. "You know how we get."
Leafa had tuned out the conversation in favor of looking through a shop window at the various items on display. Nothing was really catching her eye though. One thing she did need to do before she went home was stop by a computer shop near the station to pick something up for Kazuto. She was a little bummed out when he told her that he couldn't come along today, something about helping Asuna with computer troubles that Yuuki couldn't fix?
Standing back up straight, Leafa turned back to her friends. As she did, a crowd on the bridge over the Kanda River caught her eye. There were dozens of people all packed up against the railings, overlooking the water. She cocked her head to the side.
"Hey guys?" Ahri, Sonic, Drift, Rox and Amy paused their conversation to look at the blondie. "What's going on over there?"
"No idea. Wanna check it out?"
"I mean, I wouldn't be asking if I didn't."
"Alright. Let's have a look." The blue hedgehog lead the group over to the bridge. They had to squeeze through the crowd to see what was going on. However, when they could see the water, they found that there was nothing out of the ordinary happening.
"What's going on? Why is everyone gathered here?"
"Dunno." Sonic glanced to his left to a teenage girl watching something on her phone. Excuse me?" She looked up before grinning at the hedgehog.
"A Humanoid? That's so cool! I don't often get to see your kind around. You guys are so cute!" Sonic blushed at the praise.
"O-oh. Thank you. Hey, quick question. What's going on here? Why everyone is gathered here I mean." The girl gave him an odd look.
"You guys aren't from around here?"
"No. we're from Mustafu."
"Mustafu huh? You don't get Jet Racing news out there?"
"Jet Racing?" Leafa parroted.
"Only the coolest sport to run on the Kanda! It does run in other places, but it's biggest here."
"What is Jet Racing?" Rox questioned, tilting her head to the side. Drift nudged her in the side.
"Probably something to do with jets if I was to guess." He said in english.
"Really? No shit Sherlock, what gave you that idea?"
"You guys need to stop having secret conversations in english." Sonic mumbled. "Some of us have no idea what you're saying."
The sound of engines rumbling suddenly became apparent over the growing excitement of the crowd. The girl they were talking to quickly held up her phone again and aimed it towards the river. There was a whoosh, and two large jet skis roared into view from below them. Leafa and Rox were awestruck by the sight. There were two females riding each ski. One was driving while the other stood behind them. The female on he leading jet ski held up a freaking bazooka and aimed it behind her. With pinpoint accuracy, she fired the fired the rocket backwards and it slammed into the front of the jet ski behind her. With a yelp, the jet ski that was hit, spun out and slowed don significantly, two more jet skis passed by them before they could build their speed back up. Soon enough, they were gone as soon as they'd appeared. Ahri mad a noise of amazement.
"What was that? She just fired a rocket at the other jet ski!" The girl beside them raised an eyebrow.
"You really must not get Jet Racing news in Mustafu. It's just water." She shoved her phone into her pocket, a grin no visible on her face. "But yeah. That was Jet Racing. Pretty cool huh?"
"Eh. Sure. I suppose it is." Drift seemed indifferent while Amy and Ahri seemed to enjoy it. Leafa and Rox on the other hand…"
"Oh my god! Forget Akihabara! I want to try this out!"
"What?"
"Rox is right! It looks awesome and we totally need to try it! Leafa had literal stars in her eyes.
"Now hold on just a second. Those jet skis looked expensive. I highly doubt they'd just let anybody use them." Ahri was quick to be the voice of reason. "Besides, do you even know how to play?"
"Ya know…" The teenage girl put a finger to her chin. "I believe there's going to be a few spectator races this afternoon if you desperately want to get involved."
"Really?" Leafa grabbed both of the girl's hands and held them up in her own. Where can I sign up?" She chuckled nervously at Leafa's enthusiasm.
"Down by the Yanagibashi Bridge. You can't miss the tent; it stands out amongst all the other tents there."
"Why would they let amateurs drive those things?" Ahri asked. "What's the occasion?"
"The Kandagawa Festival of course! Around this time every year, the Jet Racing Association holds a festival to boost popularity from the Kandagawa Cup later in the year." She brought out her phone again and showed them a picture of one of the jet skis. "And you wouldn't be driving one of those ones that you just saw. Those are professional Jet Machines that participants of the Kandagawa Cup use. At the start of the festival every year, there is an exhibition race between a few teams to show people what Jet Racing is all about."
"I see. So that race just now was the exhibition race, correct?"
"Bingo! You're getting it now. You're pretty smart miss."
"She isn't our class president for nothing you know." Sonic smirked as Ahri blushed again. "We'd be lost without her!"
"Please stop Sonic."
"Class president?" The teenage girl squinted at the fox-themed blondie before looking over the others. Her eyes widened after a moment. "Wait! Now I know why you all looked so familiar!"
"Aaand that's our que to leave. Thank you for al your help!" Leafa quickly shoved her friends away from the girl. "Look out for us if we get a spot!"
With that, the energetic blonde began to drag them down the side of the river towards the Yanagibashi Bridge.
…
The girl was right. The tent was easy to spot, given the giant logo on the roof. After grabbing a quick snack from one of the booths, the UA students made their way into the tent. A man who looked like he was in his mid-thirties sat behind a booth with a tablet in his hand. He glanced up to Leafa, who stepped up towards him.
"Hello! We'd like to sign up to try Jet Racing please." The man chuckled at the bright smile on her face.
"Good to know. I don't think I've ever had a spectator so excited to show up to race before." He eyed the others behind her. "All of you want to participate?"
"I dunno if I…"
"Yes. We're all participating." Leafa interrupted Drift before he could say otherwise.
"Hey!"
"Oh shush. I know you'll enjoy it." Drift pouted to himself. "Besides, I don't want to be paired up with someone I don't know."
"That is true. A key part of Jet Racing is teamwork. It's better to work with someone you know rather than someone you don't. At least for the professional races anyway." The man fiddled with his tablet. "Alright, you're in luck. I have three available slots in the one-thirty race. Is that a good time for you guys?"
"How long does a race usually go for?" Ahri asked. "We need to be at the station by three-fifty at the latest."
"Each race depends on the racers really. I would imagine it would go on for about half an hour to forty-five minutes. Tops." Ahri looked between her classmates.
"Well? Do we want to have a go?" Sonic's flashed his trademark grin.
"Sure! I think it'll be fun."
"Yes!"
"S'pose so. Can't hurt to try."
"Have some enthusiasm ya big baby. I'm in."
"Can't not do it or one of you will have to team up with someone else. Count me in too." Ahri nodded in satisfaction.
"Sounds like we're all in. We'll take those spots please."
"Right-O. You're all locked in. Normally this is a female only sport, but for the festival, anyone can join. Count yourselves lucky guys."
"Oh, so it's like that Keijo game that's popular in the betting world?" Drift mumbled. "Talk about exclusions…"
"It's all about sex appeal my friend. Men and women alike enjoy it." The man said with a smile.
"Sex appeal?" Leafa mumbled nervously.
"Now I need teams. One person gets to be the Jetter or driver if you prefer, while the Shooter gets a fancy water assault rifle to shoot at the other racers. Who are the teams going to be?"
"I'll go with Ahri." Rox said almost immediately. "Shake things up from doing almost anything with Drift."
"Fine with me. Sonic? Want to be the Jetter?"
"What if I want to be the Shooter?"
"You can if you want to be. I just assumed you'd want to drive because of you whole "speed motif" you have going on."
"I'm kidding. Of course I'll drive." Leafa glanced to Amy.
"Guess that leaves us. Jetter or Shooter?"
"I'll be the Jetter. Can't let Sonic hog all the spotlight."
"Oh it's on now!"
"I'd like to be the Shooter if you don't mind Rox."
"No issues here."
"Fantastic." She turned back to the man. "The teams will be Rox and myself, Sonic and Drift and finally Amy and Leafa."
"Got'cha. The three UA teams are set to go at one-thirty. Please be outside the clubroom by one so we can give you all a quick run-down on each role." He smirked at their shocked faces. "What? I know UA students when I see 'em."
"He saw us at the Sports festival one hundred percent." Ahri mumbled. After waving goodbye, the six friends stepped outside the tent. Leafa was bouncing on her feet in excitement.
"This is going to be so much fun! I can't wait!"
"Oh I'm sure. Too bad Kazuto couldn't make it."
"His loss. If he wants to hang out with his girlfriend instead of us, he's missing out."
"I wonder why the others couldn't make it today." Amy said absent-mindedly.
"They were all busy. It's a shame really."
"Except for Princess. She just flat out denied the invitation. Too much of a "waste of time she said." Sonic made air quotations as he said that. That earned a few chuckles.
"You definitely know this would have been right up Hana's alley though. Driving Machines, I mean." Rox giggled to herself.
"Oh for sure. She would be glaring at us with her "challenge me" face. Or she'd be trying to rope us into a bet of some sort." Leafa agreed. Sonic however, cupped his hand under his chin, thinking.
"Why don't we have a little bet in honor of her then?" The others glanced to Sonic, who quickly shot his hands up dismissively. "Not like money or anything. We can't legally bet after all."
"What did you have in mind?" Drift asked suspiciously. Sonic thought for a moment before grinning.
"How about... If one of our teams win the race overall, the other teams owe the winning team a favor. That way, if none of us actually win, there's no downside. Just that we had fun." Rox was quick to cover her chest in fake shock.
"I never thought you'd be a pervert Sonic. Never in a million years."
"What?!" Sonic blushed brightly. "That wasn't what I had in mind at all!" He cleared his throat. "But if that's what you're worried about, I can lay down some rules."
"That would probably be for the best." Amy chuckled. "Not that we'd need them anyway. We all know what not to do."
"Amy's right. But just as a precaution, nothing illegal, nothing sexual and nothing downright dumb."
"But it can be embarrassing right?"
"That... Depends on how dumb it is." Rox eyed Sonic for a moment before grinning her usual silly grin.
"Eh. Sure. Not like I'm going to lose anyway." Sonic was quick to return it.
"Oh yeah? Bring it on!" The others were quick to join in with their own cheers.
Ten minutes later, the UA Students found themselves standing outside the clubroom after looking around some more. The clubroom was a wooden building that sat on the water, with a ramp to get onto it. Six other participants stood alongside them as an instructor made her way over to the group.
"Hiya! You guys here for the one-thirty race?" A chorus of "yeahs" ranging from enthusiastic to more "eh" answered her. "Awesome! First of all, my name is Gia and I will be your instructor for your tutorial on how to Jet Race. Thanks for taking the time to try it out. If you would please follow me, we can get started." She led the twelve participants into the meeting room of the building.
"This is... Pretty cool for a clubroom."
Said clubroom, was a typical Japanese styled room with a small table in the center of the room. It even had a crystal-clear bell hanging off the window frame. Gia spun on her heels to face everyone.
"Thank you! This place is regularly used by one of the Kandagawa League teams, so don't touch anything that you're not supposed to please." She directed everyone's attention to a TV standing on a table behind her. "Alright listen up. There are several rules you'll need to follow while you race. I'm going to play you a general safety notice before I put the tutorial on. It's mandatory so you'll have to suck it up. Let's get started, shall we?"
Once the safety video was finished, Gia put the tutorial on. The rules to Jet Racing seemed simple. The Jetter's role was to drive fast and keep ahead of the pack. The Shooter however, had the more complicated job. Each Jet Machine had a certain amount of hit points. Once the hit points got low enough, the Jet Machine would trigger a power cut, slowing it down temporarily. Different spots on the Jet Machine were worth more hit points than others. The harder the spot was to hit, the more likely to shave off a considerable amount.
Both the Jetter and Shooter would have to wear a specialized wetsuit that came in two parts (The shirt and the shorts.) while they raced. They were designed to absorb hits from the assault rifles so it wouldn't hurt as much. However, if either part took too much damage, it would "Purge" itself from their body as a safety precaution. This made some of the females present a bit nervous, but Gia simply stated that it was a part of the sport. Besides, they'd be wearing swimsuits underneath so there wasn't a huge issue.
Finally, once everyone knew what to do, Gia directed them all to where they could change. There was a brief issue with Ahri's suit, as it kept getting stuck on her massive breasts as it was trying to zip itself up, but as soon as that was fixed, the twelve participants finally brought down to the water level of the clubroom. Beneath the clubroom, was six different coloured Jet Machines. Gia held up her hand.
"Ok. Now that we know what to do, let's assign Jet Machines. These bad boys are all basic models, so you don't need to worry about one being faster than the other. Normally each Jet Machine would be different in its own way, having its own stats, but for the sake of the Kandagawa Festival, we just deal with a few factory models. Now..." She looked across the participants before pointing at Sonic. "You get to pick first because I like the look in your eye. What colour Jet Machine do you-"
"Dibs on blue!" Was Sonic's immediate response. Drift chuckled to himself.
"Gee. What a surprise." As everyone began to pick their Jet Machine, Amy and Leafa claimed the green one while Rox and Ahri chose the pink one. Once all the teams had their Jet Machines, Gia helped them get on board. Obviously, the Jetter hopped on first, taking the controls while the Shooter simply jumped on and stood on the platform behind the Jetter. Gia gave them all a thumbs up.
"Awesome job everyone! A few more things before I let you go line up." She held up three fingers. "One, please refrain from using your Quirk. We REALLY don't need some huge Quirk related accident happening. Or someone damaging one of the Jet Machines to a point beyond repair. Two, if you see someone whose suit has purged itself, please try not to shoot at their bare skin. It won't hurt per se, but it will sting. We also don't need someone to try and sue us. Third..." She grinned brightly. "Make sure to have fun! Give the people watch a show to remember! That's all from me." She pressed a finger to her earpiece. "The one-thirty racers are ready to go."
"Sure. They can head out to the starting line in two minutes. The racers from the last session are just finishing up at the awards ceremony now."
"Roger. Waiting for your signal." After what felt like hours for Leafa, Gia got the all clear and she swung her arms around and pointed out towards Yanagibashi Bridge.
"Alright! Get out there and show everyone what you're made of!"
"Yes Ma'am!" The UA students cheered, earning a few odd looks from the other three teams.
...
"Woah." Sonic couldn't help but gasp in amazement as he carefully pulled his and Drift's Jet Machine up to their starting position. Up on the bridge just behind them, hundreds of people were cheering out in excitement. All along the riverbank, more people crowded around, trying to get a glimpse at the start of the race. A few small drones whizzed around, recording footage for something. "I don't know why, but this feels almost similar to the Sports Festival."
"Well the girl back at the bridge did say this was quite popular here." Drift said from behind him. He was wearing a red wetsuit while Sonic's was (Obviously.) blue. "Coupled to the fact that the spectators may or may not know we're from UA. I wouldn't put it past the guy who reserved our spots to mention something."
On her Jet Machine, Leafa (Who was wearing a green wetsuit.) was bouncing on the balls of her feet again, fancy looking water gun in her hand.
"Oooh! I love this atmosphere! It makes this feel so exciting! I can't wait!" Amy yelped as their Jet Machine lurched slightly. She was wearing a pink wetsuit.
"Easy Leafa! I don't want to capsize before we begin please!"
"Oops. Sorry." Rox floated up in between her friends Jet Machines.
"No, no. Keep going! Then it'll be one less team to worry about." She said with a smirk. She wore the orange wetsuit while Ahri was wearing a white one. Leafa pouted at her.
"As if you're going to win. Amy and I are taking home the Gold and the favors!"
"Ladies please." The girls glanced to Sonic; whose face held his trademark grin. "If anyone is winning this race, it's going to be us."
"We'll see mister "I-am-too-fast-for-everyone!" This may be the one thing you can't win!" Amy said confidently. Ahri chuckled nervously.
"Settle down guys."
Before any of them could rebuke, a loud voice blared over the speakers.
"Check one-two. Is it on now?"
"It is."
"Awesome! Welcome everyone to the second Spectators Race! My name is Aqua Manjo and this is my lovely partner in crime Syoco!"
"Hello."
"Our next race is a special one Syoco! Word on the Kanda is that we have UA students down there!"
"That is correct. Students from Class 1-S I believe."
"Yep. They know we're here." Drift mumbled to no one in particular.
"So Syoco. Give us a rundown of the course for those of us that are just tuning in please."
"Certainly." A massive holographic screen materialized itself in front of the Jet Machines, the image of the course rotating around. "This race will be a two-lap race from here on the Yanagibashi Bridge to the Shohei Bridge. Two red and white buoys are the turning point. There's one behind us..." An image of said buoy popped up on the screen. Glancing back, Sonic could see it bobbing just outside the Kanda River. "While the other one is just beyond the Shohei Bridge. Obstacles will be made apparent as the race continues."
"That's right! Jumps and pillars can be activated by us at random, so stay vigilant racers!"
"I think that's enough from us for now. Shall we start the countdown?"
"You bet! Get ready racers!" The holographic screen shrunk slightly to show off a fancy looking timer that was locked onto ten seconds. Sonic gripped the handle bars of the Jet Machine with anticipation.
"Just know, whatever happens..." He heard Amy call out. "We're here to have fun. Please don't take this too seriously."
"Speak for yourself!" Someone on the other faceless teams shouted from behind her. The countdown began and everyone in the crowd began counting down. As each number got closer to the fabled "Start," Sonic felt his heart beat quicker.
"Three!" His hand tightened on the handle bar again.
"Two!" Leafa grabbed onto the side bars of the Jet Machine so that she wouldn't be flung off as they took off.
"One!" Everyone had a determined look on their faces. It was time.
"AND GO!" Aqua called out loudly.
With a twist of the handle bar, the six Jet Machines blasted off down the Kanda River, the crowd cheering all the way. Sonic let out a whoop of excitement as he and Drift quickly took the lead, closely followed by the Rox, Ahri and the red Jet Machine.
"This is amazing!" He called out to no one in particular. He swerved to the side to dodge a pink ball of water that attempted to hit them. "Was that water pink?"
"Just shut up and drive!" Drift called out as he shot back at the offending Shooter. He needed to be careful though. If he ran out of shots in his gun, they'd be defenseless against anyone shooting at them. A few of his shots hit the front of their pursuers Jet Machine, marking them with a holographic "Damage" symbol. They backed off after that, only to be replaced with Rox and Ahri.
"Get your asses back here!" Rox called out, causing Drift to gulp.
"Who knew being in first would paint such a big target on our backs?" He quipped. Sonic chuckled at that.
"Just be thankful they don't have any Blue Shells then."
Meanwhile, Amy was struggling to keep a steady speed. She was lurching their Jet Machine all over the place, preventing Leafa from letting go of the sidebars.
"Can you pick a speed and stick with it?" She all but screamed.
"Cut me some slack! I've never driven a jet ski before. Let alone a monstrous one like this!" After a little trial and error, she finally got the hang of it, letting Leafa release her grip on the sidebars.
"There you go! Now we just need to catch up with the others."
"Right!"
"Here comes the first obstacle course! Hope you can make tight turns!" Aqua's voice blared over the PA system.
"THE WHAT?!"
Further up the river, several pillars rose out of the water, hindering a clear straight through. A ramp popped up as well. Rox glanced back to Ahri, who had just shot back at the yellow Jet Machine behind them.
"Hey! Do you want to do the jump?" Ahri paled slightly.
"I don't know if that's such a good-"
"Too bad! Hang onto your tits!" Rox pressed the button on her right handle bar and twisted it, the inside of it lighting up with a bright pink. Ahri yelped as the Jet Machine shifted, transforming into its boost mode. It hummed loudly as it charged.
"What do you guys have against my booooooooobs?!" She grabbed the sidebars just as their Jet Machine shot forward, passing Sonic and Drift before hitting the ramp. The two were flung into the air and over the Izumi bridge. The sheer amount of people on the bridge with their phones pointed at them made her realize that people did this all the time.
Back at the start of the obstacle course, Sonic whistled in amazement.
"Wow. They must have iron stomachs to do that lap one."
"Focus please!" Drift called as they approached the pillars. Sonic grinning again.
"I got it. Who the heck do you think I am?" With a rev of the Jet Machine, Sonic entered the obstacle course. With expert precision, he dodged and weaved between the brightly coloured pillars. Someone behind them wasn't so lucky, as they bumped into a few pillars. The duo raced under the bridge and out the other side just as Rox and Ahri landed in the water beside them.
"Woo! That was amazing!" Rox shouted. Ahri was still hanging onto the sidebars, her ears and tail stiff with fear.
"Please give me more warning next time."
"But that's no fun!" Ahri chopped the back of her head with her arm. "Ah! Ok! Jeez."
"Pretty ballsy of you to do that lap one." Sonic called above the roaring of the Jet Machines. "I can't wait to see what you've got in store for the rest of the race."
"Oh yeah? Well, be prepared to be blown away then!" The two Jetters increased their speed, pulling away from the other teams behind them.
Amy and Leafa had just arrived at the start of the obstacle course. Amy gulped at the sight.
"I don't know if I can do this!"
"You can! Just take it slow." Leafa reassured the pink hedgehog.
"But then we'll never catch up!"
"You can do it Amy! I know you can!" Amy looked back to the pillars before sighing.
"Why do I do things like this?" Amy lowered her speed and began to swerve around the pillars. She was doing well for a moment, before the back of the Jet Machine clipped one of them. With a screech from Amy, they spun out before coming to a stop, Jet Machine stalled.
"Fuck! Sorry Leafa. I didn't mean to-" She froze when she looked back to find Leafa wasn't behind her. "Leafa?"
The water beside her broke to reveal Leafa's head as she resurfaced. She chuckled to herself.
"Damn it's cold in here." She flashed Amy a reassuring smile as she hoisted herself back onto the Jet Machine. "I'm all good. Just wet now."
"Thank God. I was worried there for a second." As Amy turned the Jet Machine back on, the pillars began sinking back into the water. As soon as they were fully submerged, the pink hedgehog took off again.
Back at the front of the pack, Sonic and Rox approached the Shohei Bridge. Just beyond it, was the large red and white buoy. With a smirk, Sonic expertly rounded the corner, drifting all the way, Rox not that far behind.
"How's that for smooth?" He questioned.
"Must you have a quip for everything?" He heard Ahri call from behind them.
As they raced back the way they came, Amy and Leafa came towards them on their right side. Sonic couldn't help himself.
"Hi Amy! Bye Amy!" He shouted as they passed them. Drift sighed to himself.
"You're enjoying this a little too much, aren't you?"
"But of course! Aren't you?"
"S'pose so. It's not as bad as-" He was cut off when several pink water bullets hit him in the back. The zipper of his wetsuit top glowed red, before purging off him, revealing is bare chest. Drift glared back at Ahri, who had a sheepish look on her face. Rox still had her cheeky smile on too.
"Lookin' good there Drift!"
"Hey! Don't ogle me!" He shot back at them, Ahri taking the hint to duck. Rox wasn't as lucky though, taking a few shots to the chest before her top purged itself as well, leaving her in her loaned swimsuit. Drift nodded with a satisfied "hm."
"Now who's ogling who?" Rox asked with a hint of a playfulness in her voice.
"Can you guys just become a couple already." Ahri said to herself as she stood back up. Unfortunately for her, she felt a few shots in her back as one of the faceless teams behind her opened fire.
"Don't forget about us, you self-centered jerks!"
"Nooo!" Ahri screamed loudly as her top purged itself, unintentionally making her bikini-clad boobs bounce wildly. Drift and the guys on the Jet Machine behind her felt their eyes bulge out of their sockets.
"Boobs!" The guys behind shouted as they stared, drifting to the side.
"Hey, watch out!" Another Jet Machine coming up behind them attempted to dodge the distracted team, only to hit the side of the river. They bounced back and hit the other Jet Machine hard, sending both teams into the river.
"Oh no! Both the yellow and red teams have wiped out by an uncatalogued weapon! Massive boobs!"
"Unfortunately, that means both teams are out of the race. Sorry folks."
"What about the blondie on the green team? She fell off earlier."
"In order to be disqualified from the race, both team members need to have fallen off. The green team were not disqualified because the Humanoid remained on their Jet Machine."
"That, or they just have plot armor."
"That too I suppose." Rox whistled in amazement as Ahri tried to recompose herself.
"I may be jealous of those things, but I will admit, that was impressive."
"Seconded!" Drift called out.
"No one asked you pervert!" Sonic glanced back to Drift.
"What's going on?"
"Nothing for you to be concerned about. Just keep driving."
"Roger!"
Not too far behind, Amy had finally caught up to the purple team. The Shooter glared in their direction.
"We got company."
"Finally! I was worried we wouldn't be able to get any action today. Light 'em up!" The Shooter held up her assault rifle and open fired. Amy yelped as she dodged left and right. Leafa held up her own assault rifle and shot back at them.
"Try to keep steady Amy! I can't hit them if you're continuously swerving!"
"Do you want to be hit?" She called out as she steadied herself. She grunted as they took a few shots to the front. "A little help would be nice please!"
"Hang on." Leafa aimed down her sight, looking for a specific spot on the enemy Jet Machine. When she found it, she pulled the trigger and a single concentrated blast shot out. It streaked through the other shots before hitting its mark on one of the thrusters. The purple team panicked as their Jet Machine spun out, allowing Amy to pull past with ease.
"Oh! Our first power cut! The Purple Team had spun out! Will they be able to catch back up once their power is restored?"
"Bullseye! Thank you for your training Shino!"
"Nice shot!" Leafa flashed a toothy grin.
"Thanks! Now let's catch up with the- Ah!" Leafa shrieked as she felt a blast of water hit her in a place she would rather not be shot. It didn't hurt a lot; it just took her by surprise. She felt her pants purge itself and she glared back at the purple team, whose Shooter had a devilish smirk on her face.
"You ok?" Amy asked in concern. Leafa growled as she turned back to face ahead.
"That bitch shot me in the butt!"
"Oh. You're good though, right?" Leafa flicked away the tears forming in the corner of her eyes.
"Of course. I wouldn't be in the Hero Course if I couldn't take a hit." She rubbed the spot on her butt that the shot had hit. "But damn, she was a good shot." Amy chuckled nervously as she twisted the right handle bar.
"Hang on. We're going to catch up." Leafa wrapped her arms around Amy's waist and their Jet Machine boosted down the straight away back towards the starting line.
Not that far ahead, Sonic and Rox were battling for first while Drift and Ahri shot at each other. They passed under the Yanagibashi Bridge and into the bigger Sumida River. Showing off again, Sonic swung around the buoy with ease again.
"That's how it's done!" He whooped. Drift rolled his eyes.
"Again with the showing off..."
"What? That's how I roll. You should know that by now." He spotted Amy coming towards them as they approached the bridge again, passing as the glided underneath. He held his thumb up to his nose and wiggled his fingers at her. He saw her scoff before she had passed them.
"Here comes Rox and Ahri again." Drift warned. Sonic chuckled to himself.
"And? We're just going to leave 'em in our dust anyway. Er... Splashes." He twisted the handlebar and their Jet Machine transformed into its boost mode. With a hum, the machine charged up quickly before blasting off down the Kanda River, Rox and Ahri not far behind, Amy and Leafa tailing along.
Aqua and Syoco watched as the three teams raced away from them, Aqua barely able to hold in her excitement.
"This is probably the best race today! These guys are going all out! And they've only just entered the second and final lap!" Syoco adjusted her glasses on her face.
"It's only the second race. But I can see where you're coming from." The purple team passed under them as she spoke. "The leading teams are all from UA after all."
"What do you think students of UA are doing out here?" Aqua asked.
"As far as I know? They recently got back from their Hero Internships. My guess is that they're here to relax. Not that I think anyone is complaining though." The duo watched as the purple team reappeared from the turn around and boost down the river.
"Ramp time?"
"Ramp time."
Sonic, Drift, Rox and Ahri were passing under the train lines near Akihabara when someone shouted out at them.
"Coming through!" Amy and Leafa finally caught up to the other UA teams and blasted between them.
"Whoa!"
"Watch it!" Leafa turned around to face them, a huge grin on her face.
"Here comes our comeback! Eat this!" Switching her assault rifle to rapid fire, Leafa unloaded the last of her clip at the two Jet Machines. Sonic cried out as he tried to dodge the seemingly targetless shots, a few of them hitting the front of both Jet Machines. Rox backed off with a growl.
"She wants a fight? Let's give her one then! Ahri!"
"On it!" The fox girl shot back at Leafa, unintentionally teaming up with Drift as he too shot back at her. A few shots hit their Jet Machine, but the majority of them hit Leafa in the chest, purging her top. Leafa blushed brightly, but kept shooting.
"I won't let you stop us!" Sonic dodged to the side before his eyes went wide.
Just up ahead, a large ramp had surfaced itself just before the Mansei Bridge. There was no avoiding this one, as it took over the whole river. Amy saw this and gulped.
"Leafa! You might want to hang on!"
"What for... Oh." She turned back to the others. "Truce until we clear it?"
"Sure."
"Don't want anyone injuring themselves, so yeah." Ahri and Drift ceased their shooting in favor of hanging on.
With a bump, all three Jet Machines mounted the jump and slid effortlessly over it. The people on the bridge and stuck in traffic watched in awe as they flew overhead gracefully. They cleared the bridge and landed with a splash on the other side. Sonic cheered in excitement.
"Heck yeah! That's how it's done!" He was promptly shot in the chest a few times by Leafa shortly after, his shirt purging into the water. "Hey!"
"Now it's fair. Everyone is topless now." She attached her gun to a clip on her Jet Machine. "Besides, I'm out of shots now."
"Good to know." Ahri raised her gun up toward them. "Now you can't defend yourself."
"Crap!" Leafa attempted to shield herself from the barrage of shots that were inevitably going to come her way.
They didn't though, just a series of clicks. She cracked open an eye to see Ahri frowning.
"Huh. I thought I had more shots." She shrugged as she clipped it to its spot on the Jet Machine. "Oh well." Drift did the same.
"Guess it's up to the Jetters now." Sonic, Amy and Rox all grinned at the same time.
"Leave it to me!" They said in unison. They all took the turn around the buoy effortlessly (Ok, Amy slipped up a little, putting her behind the others.) and blasted back towards Yanagibashi Bridge, passing the purple team who was surprisingly not that far behind.
"All three Shooters on the leading teams have run out of shots and are now coming back down the river! It's going to be a battle of the boosts people! Use it too early, and they risk running out before the finish line. Use it too late and they may not catch up to those who do. This is going to be a close one!" Aqua's voice blared out. "Who do you think is going to win Syoco?"
"Normally it would depend on the Jet Machine, with its own stats. But because we're working with basic models with extremely similar stats, it's hard to tell."
"Whaaat? But you usually have a good idea who is going to win!"
"Not this time. It can be anyone's game right now."
The three UA teams were side by side now. Sonic was on the right, Rox was on the left while Amy was in the middle. They all passed under the Kiyosubashi-Dori Avenue Bridge and Sonic couldn't help but grin.
"Don't forget." He shouted over the roaring of the Jet Machines. "The losing teams owe the winning team a favor. Be prepared to do something for us!" He twisted his handle bar for the last time, transforming the Jet Machine into its boost mode. Rox did the same.
"I think you mean something for us!" Amy followed suit and prepared to boost as well.
"No way! We're going to win this!" She glanced back to Leafa. "Ready?"
"You bet! Let's-" A blast of water hit the back of their Jet Machine, just under where Leafa was standing. Both girls yelped as they were thrown into a spin, someone triggering a power cut to it. Behind them, the purple team was boosting towards them!
"Don't forget about us, you bastards!"
"Oh shit! We've gotta go!" Drift shouted. Sonic nodded.
"Sorry Amy!" Pressing the button, he activated the boost. "We gotta go!"
As they began to build up speed, the purple team passed between Sonic and Rox, looks of smugness on their faces.
"It's too late! You won't catch up to us before we get to the finish line. To think we've been in last place for most of the race and now we're going to win!"
"Hellz to the yeah babe! We got this in the bag!" The purple teams Jetter called out. Rox gritted her teeth.
"Hellz to the nah you're not!" Inch by inch, the two Jet Machines slowly began to close the gap. Yanagibashi Bridge had just come into view and they were almost up to purple team's bumper. Aqua rocketed out of her seat, sending it clattering behind her.
"I don't believe it! The Purple Team has come out of nowhere and are currently winning! But the Blue and Pink Teams are hot on their heels! But I think Purple Team are going to win!"
"Unlikely." Aqua glanced to her co-host.
"But-"
"They started their boost a ways back. Judging by the boosting capabilities of the basic models, they should be running out of juice right about..." The purple team's Jet Machine boost mode suddenly ceased to boost and it transformed back into its regular form. The purple team's eyes went wide. "...Now."
Without their boost, nothing was stopping Sonic and Rox from passing them. They passed the clubroom and approached the bridge at an alarming pace.
"I won't let you win!" Rox screamed, Ahri pressed against her back. "You always win races!"
"Not a chance! I'll keep pushing myself to-"
"Shut up and focus!" Both Drift and Ahri shouted at the same time.
With one final shout, both Jet Machines passed over the line.
"Goal!" Aqua's shout could barely be heard over the roaring of the crowd.
...
"Ha! Fastest thing alive my ass!"
"Yeah, yeah. Rub it in while you can."
It was a few minutes after the awards ceremony and getting changed back into their casual clothes when Rox couldn't hold it in anymore. After all, who ever had the chance to gloat that they were faster than the Blue Blur himself?
"Come on Rox. We won by an inch." Ahri tried to calm her down, only to be wrapped into a one-armed hug.
"Live a little Ahri! You and I both beat him! That's an accomplishment if I've ever seen it." She held up her small gold medal for the group to see. "Look at our shiny golds!"
"At least you got a medal." Leafa pouted. She and Amy had missed out on a medal due to coming in fourth. "I'm kinda jealous."
"Hey, we got participation ribbons though. That's something right?" Amy chuckled. "It's too bad that those guys hit us right before the end."
"She's right Leafa. It's better than nothing." Drift said.
"It's hard to tell if you're teasing me or not with your facemask."
"Guess you'll never know huh?"
"You're a jerk you know."
"So I've been told." Sonic looked down to his own silver medal wrapped around his neck. On it, it had a Jet Machine jumping a wave. It was extremely well made, that was for sure.
"Excuse me?" The UA students paused their teasing in favor of looking at a well-dressed woman that had approached them. A few men in black suits stood behind her. "I must say, you all performed beautifully out there just now."
"Thank you for your praise. Forgive me for asking, but who are you?" Trust Ahri to turn professional when she needed to.
"My name is Iris Kasumi. I'm a member of the Jet Racing Association. I'm here to offer you a position on our Kandagawa League team." Sonic froze at the invitation (And he was pretty sure his friends did too.). A member of the official league was approaching them with an offer to join an official team?
"W-wha? For real?"
"For real." She smiled warmly. "Colour me impressed with your performance today."
"Wow." Rox couldn't wipe the smile off her face. "That's amazing! Thanks for the offer." Ahri elbowed her before she could say anything else.
"As much as it would be an honor, my friends and I still have classes back at UA."
"Oh. You guys are the UA students that were racing? That's too bad then. I can see why you did so well then." Despite her face falling a little, she pulled out a card from her breast pocket and handed it to Ahri. "If you ever feel the need to get back on a Jet Machine, whether it be for a position on the team or for fun, give me a call." Leafa's face lit up.
"We can call to have another go whenever we want?"
"Within reason of course." She pointed to one of the tents behind her. Inside was a pair of girls and a Jet Machine behind them. "The official teams still need to practice and have races after all."
"That's fair." Amy nodded in satisfaction. "We'll let you know."
"Aw..." Sonic patted Leafa's back.
"Hey. At least we can come back to have another go. Maybe you can win next time."
"Yeah... Yeah! You're right!" Iris turned on her heels and waved back to the group.
"I've got other things I need to do, so I have to go. Have a good rest of your day. Hopefully we'll meet again." She walked away from them and disappeared into the crowd, bodyguard following hot on her heels.
"She seemed nice." Drift commented as Ahri pulled out her phone to check the time and slip the card into one of the slips in her case.
"We've probably overstayed our welcome here. Let's go to the computer store for Leafa so she can get this thing that Kirigaya needs. Then we can head home."
"Yes prez!" They all shouted.
"How many times have I told you to not call me that?!" Ahri spluttered in embarrassment.
"One to many times. Don't think it'll stick unfortunately." Sonic dodged the swat coming from the voluptuous girl with a laugh.
The six friends began to head out of the small festival plaza towards Tokyo Station. Today had been fun, which was the whole point of the excursion that Ahri had organized. But after today, they had to get back to work.
Because the final exams were beginning to rear its ugly head...
Guess who discovered and fell in love with the Kandagawa Jet Girls Anime…
I hope you all enjoyed this little story I've been working on for the last few days. I had to use Google Maps for this, because, as you know, I know as much about Japan as I know geology. Which is next to none.
Before any of you start asking "Why is this a My Hero Academia Crossover? There's nothing MHA related in it at all!" I will explain. As it may be obvious to some, I am using a combination of characters from my Heroes of Class 1-S story. This event does happen within that universe, that's why it's a My Hero Academia Crossover rather than a Kandagawa Jet Girls one. That, and there isn't a Kandagawa Jet Girls tab to use. I've checked. Hopefully this doesn't offend anyone.
Also, you may have noticed two characters that didn't appear in the current version of my story appeared in this one. Think of this as introduction as to who two of the new students are going to be. Meet Ahri, from League of Legends! I've never played it (Or want to really.) so don't expect her to be similar to her canon self. And Rox, another skin from Fortnite. My favourite to be exact. She obviously doesn't have any personality from her game so you can only guess what kind I gave her after reading this.
Anyway, I hope this story can satisfy you enough to wait for me to get my motivation off its ass and actually get too writing the damn thing. Yeah, I haven't done much of it at all unfortunately, so please bare with me for a bit longer. I hope you understand.
That's all from me for now. Once again, I hope you enjoyed this story, and I look forward to hearing from you all when I finally get back into a mojo to write. Thanks for being patient!
BlueTornado3275, out!
