"I need to be the one who go's out there J'onn! It can't be anyone else! If you're serious about this touch stone to get her to believe in reality, than it needs to be me!" Alex screamed, the idea of not being the one to help Kara was eating Alex inside. There was no way she was holding back and staying on the ship.
"Fine Alex, but I'm coming with you regardless. It is not safe out there, and I'm not losing you also." J'onn responded, realising that whenever it came to the Danvers sister's he could never keep them apart for the safety of the other.
"Thank you. I promise I'll stay safe!" Alex gleamed, happy that she can help.
Meanwhile down on the ground, Kara was losing her mind more due to the phantom attack, all she could think about was how she had failed at everything, and anyone who came in contact with her was doomed. She couldn't put anymore strain on anyone she spoke to again. She wanted to be left alone for eternity here. Zor-El tried his hardest to get through to her, with the same speech Kara had gave him when she first stumbled across him, however his attempts where shut down every time. He feared this was it for his daughter, his only hope now was for the 'friends' she spoke so fondly about days ago would come and rescue Kara. His only thought was to protect his daughter from further onslaught from the phantoms while he waited.
"You come back to me.. okay?" Kelly whispered to Alex whilst she was getting ready to leave with J'onn.
"I will come back, and when you next see me Kara will be here too." Alex said with so much determination anyone would believe her.
"Good, now please, please, pleeeease remember the steps if you start to feel fear growing, ok?" Kelly pulled Alex into a warming hug.
"Learnt from the best" Alex smiled, embracing the hug from her girlfriend.
More hugs enveloped Alex and also J'onn before the left through the airlock from the rest of the super friends, each one of them with their own pleas to stay safe and get Kara back. Both Alex and J'onn took deep breaths before heading out the air lock and into the unknown of the phantom zone. Knowing full well that Kara was somewhere up ahead, due to the tracker finally working after Brainy and Nia were able to successfully get Kara's DNA. Dodging some phantom attacks J'onn and Alex continued on their quest, passing cave entrances and random alleys made out of broken rock. Constant tremors kept Alex and J'onn on high alert, ever since landing shocks had carried out every so often, J'onn put it down to the phantom zone fracturing even more, and that if they didn't find Kara soon, they too would be stuck here when it finally explodes.
"According to this, she should be just behind this wall of rock" J'onn said, after several minutes of quiet between the two. The only thing on both their minds being Kara. Without a second thought and not caring anymore at the chance of a phantom attack, Alex sprinted round the corner and set her eyes on the most heartbreaking but beautiful sight, her sister.
Alex started to walk towards her sister but was stopped in her tracks by a man emerging from a rock nearby.
"Stand back!" Shouted the man. Alex quickly pulled a gun from her mind through the gadget on her wrist, and aimed it at the man. "That's my sister right there! So you better back off before I shoot you!" Alex quickly responded.
"Sister?" The man said, suddenly backing off from Alex.
"Yes, who are you?" Alex responded.
"I'm Zor-El, and this is my daughter Kara. Are you Alex?" Zor-El questioned, hoping this was the rescue he had been waiting for.
"Oh my god. You're Kara's dad. You're not dead? … Don't answer that, we have no time. We need to get Kara to our ship. J'onn here will help you" Alex instructed, realising that Zor-El was heavily relying on a crutch.
"Wait, she'll not move. She's lost all hope, the phantoms got to here and attacked her. I.. I can't get through to her." Zor-El sounded defeated. He had tried everything but nothing was working.
Alex looked down to her sister and noticed the despondent look, eyes greyed over, a scratch visible on her neck. Slight panic brewed through Alex, but one glance at J'onn she knew what she needed to do. Be the touch stone for Kara. Crouching infront of her sister Alex took ahold of her hand, and took a deep breath. "Here I go" Alex thought.
"Kara… It's me… Alex. I'm here. I'm here for you. J'onn's here. Lena, Nia, Brainy and Kelly are waiting for you on the ship. Your Dad… wow. You have to tell me how you found him." Kara sat still looking into the void. So Alex continued. "I've been so lost without you, you'd be so proud of me though, I didn't look to alcohol to numb my feelings... I hope you don't mind, but I stole your crystal and watched the words you spoke. I'm so proud of you. You make me so proud to be a Danvers… To be a superhero, just like you. And when we go home, endless potstickers are coming your way, and we're not going to do anything for a week, we're just going to cuddle on your couch and I'm going to tell you every second of the day that I love you, and that I will never let you be by yourself ever again… So Kara I need you to come back to me." Alex finished with tears threatening to to spill over.
Throughout the whole speech, Kara could hear her sister. To begin with she thought she had finally lost her mind and she was going to be forced in a nightmare of hearing her loved ones for the rest of her time in the phantom zone without ever being able to see them again, however halfway through, Kara could finally feel the slightest warm touch on her hand. All Kara had to do was move her hand, feel the thing that was touching her.
Alex looked down, thinking that she hadn't been able to get through to Kara, tears finally taking over, a silent sob breaking through. After a few minutes Alex felt the hand she was holding move. Watching it, she realised Kara's hand was moving towards her pulse point, Kara's delicate fingers feeling for it. Alex laughed and looked to J'onn and Zor-El.
Kara moved her hand to what felt like a pulse, fingers ever so slightly feeling it, Kara in her mind realised that she knew she pulse. She had felt it for years. The only person who's pulse this could be was Alex. Her Alex. Slowly looking up, the hallucinations gave in for the most beautiful sight. Her sister sitting infront of her, J'onn and her father in the background. Blinking a couple times she finally spoke. "Al..Alex?" Kara whispered.
"Yes its me Kar, we're here to take you home."
"Is… is this real?" Kara looked around.
Alex looked back at J'onn, who now stepped forward. "Yes, we're here to take you home Supergirl" J'onn said with the fatherly tone he always had with the two girls. "Theres people who want to see you."
Kara took a deep breath, this felt real. It had to be. Alex helped Kara stand. As soon as she was up Kara pulled Alex into a strong hug, emotion bubbling between the two of them, tears flowing freely.
After what felt like an eternity, Kara and Alex stopped hugging, and just looked into each others eyes, tears still gleaming both their eyes. Big smiles on both their faces. "Lets take you home sis" Alex said, with so much confidence.
Kara could only nod as she followed J'onn and her dad, hand permanently attached to Alex's. she was never leaving her sisters side.
Upon entering the ship, Kara found herself engulfed in more hugs from Brainy, Nia, Kelly and Lena. Taken in the scents of them all she finally gained hope. This was it. She was home.
Moments later the crew had left the phantom zone, just before it exploded into multiple pieces and where travelling through space back to the one place Kara had dreamed about forever.
The End
