Disclaimer I don't own the Digimon, just the plot of this story and the OC.
Alright, folks, I decided to explore the Digimon fandom.
I know the old series for several years, including Digimon02.
There is several Digimon and one of my favourites is BlackWargreymon...he's an awesome character, started as a villain, but died as a hero... wasn't alone.
He learned so many things while doing his quest to answer some questions related to its existence.
I decided to give a look at this anime and the fandom and I noticed that there aren't so many stories with BlackWargreymon, and he needs lots of love you know? He needs someone who really understands him.
Due to this Pandemic, I decided to write a little OneShot, to pay tribute to those who are fighting against it.
Now Imagine what happens when his partner is infected with Covid19 and is between life and death, how he will cope with that? Will flip out or simply cope with all this? What kind of feelings he will deal with?

Before I forget...Maxine is an adult but was chosen, I know this because Oikawa had one.
And BlackWargreymon can change sizes, (I saw it during the old series) and here he has 8ft tall.

Hard moments...
The year 2020... the world is going through one of the most difficult times... Covid19... a virus that appeared out of nowhere and that turned into a pandemic in a few months, putting Mankind on its knees, despite not being as deadly as Ebola, is highly contagious, and this makes it even more dangerous.
Millions are infected, and many dies as a result of the problems Covid can cause, seemingly healthy humans become extremely sick and can lose their lives.
Everyone fears this little virus even had to change habits, to try to end the pandemic, but many continue to deny its existence, making manifestations against Lockdowns as well as the measures they are taking to control this virus.
There are so many conspiracy theories, many say that it was manufactured to control the population, or simply for pharmaceutical companies to make a lot of money at the expense of the unhappiness of others.
But there are those who fight this virus, heroes who do not have superpowers, but who can save lives... from scientists to doctors and nurses, without forgetting who does the most basic jobs.
They work night and day, doing research to make vaccines to control the virus, manufacture medicines to treat it and save the lives of those who are infected, work as a whole, for the same purpose.
A soul lies in a hospital bed, is fighting this evil virus... was at the forefront of the fight against Covid19... because she's a paramedic and a firefighter at one of the fire stations that exist in the city of Chicago.
Always done everything she can to protect herself and those around her, but ended up seriously infected... and now she's intubated with oxygen, with a very reserved prognosis, she's in an induced coma so she doesn't feel the pain of being intubated.
An otherworldly being is by her side, holding her hand, interlacing his fingers in hers, is so sad because he is seeing his fragile and helpless partner in that hospital bed.
"Fight Maxi... you must live!" She listened to him, but couldn't react, "I need you, Maxi." And he'd put his hand on the forehead of the girl lying in that hospital bed, "I don't want to lose you!" A tear roll down his hidden face, " You said I had a heart…but if it is to be in pain…in seeing you dying, I don't want it!" Grumbles with sadness, but then remembers some of her words.
"BlackWargreymon, you are alive and have a heart, don't forget that!
Being alive is a wonderful thing, and is even better when we have feelings, even of sadness… that make us stronger than ever… and fill us inside out.
Without them, we feel empty, helpless." He smiled, and understood, then remembered another thing.
"You told me that you protected a flower… that proved that you had consciousness, you were learning by asking questions!
That flower means that life is fragile and precious… it must be protected! I do that all the time twenty-four-seven, BlackWargreymon!" Then remembered her smile, "Life is so beautiful and made of ups and downs…so we have to live it with a big smile on our lips!" He remembers how she touched his helmeted face with a hand, and her touch was something good, "Hey… look at me, learn this…when life gives us lemons, make lemonade! I love lemonade!" When he listened to that for the first time, he felt relieved! He knew it due to one thing… the burn scar she had on the right shoulder, showed that she struggled in life, and never let that put her down during her life.
The girl laying in that bed taught him many things, including answering some of his questions.
Then feels someone nearby, and hide behind some curtains, saw a tall human, dressed in a weird protective suit, knows it's to avoid being infected by the virus that attacks her, feels like the human knows her...
Then listens, "Maxine... Please fight it! You're essential to everyone, you're the best paramedic I've ever met! We need you!" BlackWargreymon knows that she is esteemed by all who surround her and knows how hard she strives to help those who need it most.
Then he could see that the human leaves something in her hand, "We'll be here to support you, Maxine." And get out of there, going straight to his business.
When he sees that the coast is free, he goes back to the girl, watching and supporting her in this hard time.
Flashback...
(Narrator)
It's a cold night of Winter... the inhabitants of Chicago gather at home, they just want to be warm in the comfort of their homes... but it is always like this?
Not at all...
There is a serious fire in one of Chicago's abandoned warehouses, and as normal both firefighters, paramedics and police rush to the accident, and quickly a security perimeter is established by the authorities on site.
There are few victims because most of them had escaped the fire just in time, but even then, there were two deaths, as they had not been able to get out in time.
One of the paramedics is a little disappointed, as they were deaths that could have been avoided, and one of the firefighters sees, "You did what you had to do Maxi." The girl replies, "I know Eric." The fireman puts a hand on the girl's shoulder, "You're an excellent paramedic Maxi, if we didn't run into the fire, there could be a lot more victims!" She smiles, "It's true, that's why I'm training myself to be a firefighter!" He looks at her, "I know, and you take the opportunity to make the diagnosis on the ground." She agrees, "Yup." The Firehouse Commander only commands everyone, "Finish doing the aftermath." And that's what happened...
But who is this Chicago-born girl, and why is she a paramedic and is being trained to be a fireman?
Maxine is 24 years old, and she's always lived in Chicago and works in one of the city's Firehouses, graduated to be a paramedic, and she's been working for about four years, and she's training hard to be a fireman, why?
She was one of the survivors of a large fire when she was about 5 years old, had lost her father and her older brother who was 10 years old, it was a severe blow to her and her mother, who had to move on to raise Maxine, both had the support of friends and some firefighters, namely Herrmann who decided to patronize her...
Suffered from bullying at school, due to a scar she was carrying, a burn on her right shoulder... proof that had survived a serious fire, but always faced her attackers successfully, never getting to them.
She was an excellent student, but she didn't get into college... preferred to follow a call... the life-saving and for this decision to work hard to become a good paramedic and later fireman to Herrmann's happiness who supported her in everything.
Never forgot what happened to her... and often has nightmares due to this, had professional help, but the diagnosis was PTSD and they wanted to give her medication instead of encouraging her to vent about what happened, and because of this closed into herself, trying to forget.
Who knows about the tragic past of this young adult of 24, is Christopher Herrmann, who is a fireman in another fire station in the city.
Hours passed after the aftermath of that fire took place, and everyone was in the Headquarters, and how normal there was a meeting, so they could discuss what had caused that fire.
Everyone thought it was strange that a fire broke out in an area of abandoned warehouses, and because there were casualties.
They are aware that some homeless and drug addicts usually take shelter there during the cold winter's night.
What set off that fire? That will have to find out after all that fire had occurred during the early hours
The discussion is heated, in relation to this until the Commander only says looking at Maxine, "Well... this has to be investigated, at least to clear out whether there was a criminal hand or not, and so I will highlight Maxine and Alex to investigate the source of this fire." Maxine is amazed and expresses it, "My Commander I'm just a paramedic!" He shoots, "And a fireman in training Maxine, it's part of your learning." She has to obey and conform, after all the commander's word is final, and hears, "Go rest, tonight was very difficult." Then he turns to Maxine and Alex, "You're going to investigate the source of the fire. First, you have to rest, I want you fresh!" Maxine has to give her hand to the palmatory, the Commander watches over the welfare of all who are there in the Firehouse.
Maxine returns home, she wants to sleep peacefully, after all her shift had been very difficult and long, she did not go to Molly's to fraternize with other firefighters, she was very tired, would go the next day.
A few hours go by, Maxine and Alex go to the warehouses to investigate the origin of that fire, search everything, and find nothing to their disappointment, "We've been here for several hours looking for an ignition source and nothing!" Maxine looks at her colleague, "Well... you may be right, but I'll investigate a little more!" And go a little further by noting something, "Look here Alex!" The colleague sees a crater of a considerable size, " What... a hole? Probably a gas explosion." She lifts an eyebrow, Alex a fireman with experience doesn't see the point? So just tell him, "I hope you're right." The colleague raises his brow but says nothing, after all, he knows that Maxine does not have much experience and that that supposed crater is her imagination.
"I'm leaving Maxi, I have paperwork to fill out, if I were you I would do the same.
It's cold… my nuts will freeze! " She has to conform and leaves, but thinks to herself, "At the end of my shift I'm going to come back here and investigate this... crater." And get out of there with his partner.
When they arrive at the Headquarters, they go to the Commander's office to tell him about what they found, and as normal they are asked to file a report, to discard criminal hand.
That day was laborious, they did reports as well as fill out other paperwork, but when it's night, Maxine went to Molly's to relax a little, because it's normal to wear a mask, was she not for taking covid who's been raging around Chicago and the rest of the world.
The bar owner just asks, "What's with the mask? You know no one here has Covid!" She replies, "Just remove it for a drink, that's all, Herrmann!" The owner knows that she is right, after all, it is his obligation to make sure that everyone meets the hygienic rules imposed by the health authority, "What do you want to drink then Maxi?" She says, "Cognac if you have it there." He grabs a glass and serves the said drink, "Here you are!" She gets the glass, "Thank you, Herrmann!" The girl's going to drink her drink, but her mind is in that strange crater, what caused it? She's going to have to take a closer look at it.
In a question of minutes she drinks the glass of cognac in one sip, Herrmann is amazed, "What's in your head, Maxine?" She replies, "A lot to think about!" Herrmann knows when Maxine thinks, she drinks another glass of cognac or some other drink, "Don't abuse that Maxi." She replies, "I know how to contain myself." The colleague replies, "I know, we may not be from the same Fire departments, but I know you like the back of my hand." She smiles, "Yes... after all, you were the one who supported us at a difficult time in our lives, and I'm a paramedic because of that, and not only!" He puts a hand on her shoulder, "What makes you think?" She replies, "I don't accept the investigation of that fire." He knows she's fixed-minded, "You think something's missing isn't it?" She nods, "Yes... I know I have no experience in this area, I'm just a fireman in training, but my intuition..." He just advises, "Go investigate, Maxi, follow your intuition." She drinks the cognac in one sip, pays, grabs her things and leaves the bar, "I'll go, Herrmann!" Says with a glint on her eyes.
She takes a taxi, heads towards the warehouses, wants to take one last look at that strange crater, knows that the homeless do not make fires inside those warehouses due to the existence of flammable materials inside.
That crater is out of place because it wasn't that small, Alex didn't see the true dimension because it was covered in shrapnel, not to mention that he devalued what she had discovered.
When gets there, pays the taxi driver and shortly after enters the warehouse, turn on a flashlight she was carrying with her, and starts looking for the crater.
When she comes up with it, begins to examine everything, and looks up seeing a hole in the roof the same size as the crater, analyzes the place, see if there is no danger of falling if she climbs to the roof, and sees some stairs intact, breathing with relief, "At least the fire has not destroyed these stairs!" Think for herself.
Climbs carefully, analyzing the edges of the roof, seeing that there was something that had melted the metal and repaired the edges, looking up, "Strange... Whatever destroyed this roof, it was something very hot, and strangely enough, it came from the air!" She thinks it's weird, who would bomb abandoned warehouses? The Air Force wouldn't bomb warehouses like that.
The earth trembles and it holds as long as it can, "Earthquakes here?" Say it out loud, so something captures her sight... she sees two figures fighting, "I think I drank too much cognac!" But makes the decision to go investigate those two figures to fight.
Maxine approaches slowly until she is close enough to see the physical characteristics of the two figures.
Look at a humanoid T-Rex, it has black and grey armour with patches of yellow here and there, wears a horned helmet which is grey, his hair is blond, all his weaponry is fearsome, he is black as night.
"Since when are there dragons with armour?" Think for herself.
Sees that he fights with some kind of Mammoth, the strange T-Rex throws fireballs at him, "I think I drank too much cognac!" Repeat again.
Not to be discovered, it shrinks as much as it can, but observes the unfolding of the action attentively, hearing that they exchange words with each other, "And speak!" Murmurs much admired... and continues to watch the fight between the two strange beings, she gets excited, "I've never seen a fight so lit, it's better than watching Wrestling on TV!" And is still hiding watching those two fighting.
Without noticing that the Humanoid T-Rex launches an attack on his opponent, using fire, and she is even on its trajectory.
" TERRA DESTROYER!"
She wakes up from her torpor when hears that T-Rex shouting its attack, looks up seeing a huge fireball in her direction, "Oh shit." And try to escape.
The presence of that human draws the attention of the strange T-Rex in armour, his attack to end his opponent put her in danger, note that she tries to escape... but it's too late, as it's about to be obliterated by his own attack.
On the other hand, Maxine tries to run as fast as she can, to no avail because that huge ball of fire is about to consume her..."May my death be without suffering!" But something happens, she's raised in the air at the speed of sound, and in the distance she sees that fireball destroying some warehouses and obliterating that strange elephant.
"Whoa… this is a hell of an explosion!" She says astonished, not believing what she was witnessing, "What am I going to say at the Firehouse?" And faints because of the situation she was in.
BlackWargreymon looks at that human, who has in his arms, is passed out because of what happened to her moments before.
A powerful being had given him a second chance because of the sacrifice he had made to seal the Highton View Terrace portal, reborn as a true Digimon, never forgetting his past, withheld all his memories, gave him the opportunity to redeem himself and to look for the answers he is looking for so much, and who would have someone capable of answering them, and described a human in specific.
So look at that human he has in his arms, feeling that she's the one he's looking for, so she can answer his questions.
He lands a few blocks away, nearby to the firehouse where she works, in a well-guarded park, carefully lays her on the grass, checking that she breathes, then waits for her to wake up, which does not take long.
"Uhh... Jalapeños... I don't think I should have had those two glasses of cognac, next time I'll ask Herrmann, a scotch!" And tries to get up but falls, "Be quiet." She hears a strong, low-grumble voice, at the same time cold, then turns to a strange humanoid dragon and retreats, "Oh shit..." BlackWargreymon sees the girl's reaction and gets a little closer as she retreats.
He sees her green eyes, seeing something... a mixture of fear and curiosity, and sees something else the eyes were glued to the weaponry that was on him, "Did you save me to kill me next?" Listen to her, he gets a little closer, "No..." She raises a slender brow, "Then why did you save me?" He turns his back on her, "Because it didn't make sense to be destroyed." She takes a deep breath, trying to get up, "Thank you..." He turns around examining the girl in more detail, who has ebony black hair, emerald green eyes, sees that she brings a strange uniform, could notice that her body is robust and athletic, and she isn't so tall, gives by his chest, and has something on her face?" Also, see that it is being watched by her.
She looks at it from the top, basically, it's a humanoid T-Rex with a strange armour, having a strange shield on his back reminiscent of some wings, muscled, and in his arms, a strange armament, gauntlets with long blades, seems to be about eight feet tall.
Then hears a question, "What were you doing there?" She takes a deep breath, "I was investigating a fire." And then she just says, "I don't know how I'm going to explain this back at the Headquarters!" He replies, "Don't say anything, my existence is to stay secret." She sighs, "I know the fire is related to what happened moments ago." He replies, "I didn't mean it, human... nor that there were humans there living there." She replies, "I know, if you knew there were humans there, I bet you'd avoid fighting there." Then she just says, "I'm going to have to come up with another explanation because this attack of yours won't go unnoticed." He has to agree with her.
A question is asked, "Who are you? I see you look like a T-Rex..." He looks at her, "I'm BlackWargreymon, a Mega Level Digimon, I came from the digital world !" He points at her with one of the gauntlets, "Didn't identify yourself!" She replies, "I'm Maxine, I work as a paramedic at a fire station nearby, not to mention I'm a fireman in training." He lifts a brow and she sees, "I save people." He's curious.
Curiosity gets the better of Maxine, "Where did you come from?" He begins to tell her his whole story, from the day he was created to the time of his sacrifice,"... And I was given a second chance." She just says, "Lately I haven't been myself, it's been a few days, it coincides with the time you arrived." He answers, "Maybe I have the answer to your question." She crosses her arms, "What do you mean?" He explains, "Azulongmon told me that I would find someone, who could help me understand the meaning of my existence and that someone is you!" She's incredulous, "I can't believe it..." He points to her coat, "Then go in your coat pocket." She puts her hand in her coat pocket, and takes off a strange device, "I can't believe it, what is this?" And show the device, BlackWargreymon just replies, "That's a digital device, with it you can go into my world and give me more power, it means you're my partner, a Digi-Destined!" She goes speechless, "Wow... according to what you told me are only children or teenagers who are chosen, but I'm an adult, I'm 24 years old!" He says, "It makes no difference, you have another perspective on life that younger humans don't have!" She's thoughtful, "You're really right." Then look at him, "How am I going to get you to my apartment without getting the neighbours' attention? You are a damn 8ft tall black T-Rex in armour, with badass gauntlets." Maxine looks around seeing that she's near the fire station, "... or my colleagues?" He takes her in bridal style, "Tell me where you live." She smiles, "Take me first near Molly's!" He raises an eyeshadow, "Is that where you live?" She laughs, "No... it's a bar! And right now I need a very strong drink!" He doesn't know what to say, but he takes her near the bar in question.
When she gets there, BlackWargreymon lets her go, watching her walk into the said bar that's full of humans, who wear pretty much the same clothes as her and focuses only on her... listening to her with his keen ear.
Inside the bar...
"God Maxine, you look like you've seen the devil!" Herrmann exclaims, Maxine just says, "I want a double cognac!" He stares at Maxine, "What's gotten you? Don't tell me your research didn't bear the desired results!" She replies, "Not by a shadow... if you saw what I saw, you would do it too!" Herrmann didn't ask any more questions and serves her the drink but advises, "Don't drink too much, because tomorrow is a workday!" She replies, "I'm off tomorrow!" And she's looking at the glass, deciding whether to drink it or not.
Maxine blushes hard… her thoughts went to BlackWargreymon, "Daamn… that humanoid T-Rex has a nice piece of ass!" And keeps blushing hard.
Another colleague sees Maxine looking at the glass of cognac, "What did give to her Herrmann?!" The bar owner replies, "It's her own business." The other replies, "She is only looking at that drink... but I'm the one who drinks it!" Herrmann just tells him, "Don't disturb her, okay?" The other one nods.
Maxine grabs the glass going outside the bar, getting the insight of BlackWargreymon, wants to assimilate what he told her.
Feels like he's aware of what she's doing, what a rich example she's being... and look at the glass, "Is it worth drinking this cognac?" And look at the Digimon in question, "Is he the best suited to help me with regard to my tragic past?" Then make a decision... it will be the catalyst for an important change in her life.
Then enter the bar, and deliver the glass full of cognac to Herrmann, "You can give it to whoever else needs it!" And pay for the drink, "What happened so you wouldn't drink your double cognac?" She replies, "Something told me not to do it!" He smiles, knows she enjoys a good drink, and it's rare to drink too much.
What happened to Maxine, why she didn't touch the drink? He honestly doesn't know.
Outside...
She walks into the alley where BlackWargreymon was, "What happened there... Maxine?" She just tells him, "Let's go home, 'cause I feel like there's going to be changes for both of us!" He picks up Maxine in bridal style, rises in the air, leaving from there, going straight to Maxine's apartment.
From there both began to have a relationship of true friendship, as well as in solving problems in the digital world, after all, Maxine helped the Digimons and the other Digi-Destined, BlackWargreymon could look for answers, and those were answered over time.
He learned that Maxine's job was to save people, is a good paramedic and she was training to be a fireman, she explained everything to him in every detail.
Heard about her tragic past... Because of the constant nightmares she had, he made her open up about it, which took time, feels like he's helping her... knows that complement each other.
He knows that she has a very active social life, socializing a lot with friends, going to Molly's fraternize, but always found time to be with him, to his satisfaction.
So he learns about something else, the real reason she's always wearing a face mask... it is due to a severe pandemic is raging through the human world, she explains that there are less serious and very serious forms of that virus, but that did not demote her... continues to save people, sees that she and her colleagues are very united both outside of work and in it, knows it because he is always watching her, or Maxine could be attacked by some malevolent Digimon or during the rescue of victims caused by fires and not only.
Sees that she commits great acts of courage when he sees her go into burning buildings to save people, at the risk of her own life and he fears for her.
And due to their constant conviviality, he begins to develop feelings for Maxine, but says nothing, because he knows that those feelings would not be reciprocated.
Then one day she wasn't feeling well, and BlackWargreymon notices, "You should stop a little, Maxine." She replies, "I'm fine, BlackWargreymon I am just tired!" It gets quite serious, "Here in the Digimon world we can't treat human diseases, so I think we'd better get back!" She was going to protest, when he holds her in bridal style, "Let's go home!" And they could find a digital portal that is quickly opened by the girl and in a matter of minutes, they are at home.
The next day Maxine couldn't get to work because she had very high fevers, which made her Digimon visibly worried, "You've to get better, Maxine." And try to help her.
Sees that she has a lot of trouble breathing, "B…BlackWargreymon…I… cannot breath!" She coughed a lot, without avail, "I…I don't know what to do, Maxine!" Regrets BlackWargreymon, but she does, and manages to make an emergency call, Maxine knew what Covid's symptoms were.
The ambulance does not take long, and she with great difficulty manages to open the door and falls to the ground, being quickly assisted at the scene.
BlackWargreymon watches everything hidden and hears that she is at risk of life, and had to be intubated very quickly.
He follows the ambulance without being seen because he doesn't want to lose sight of her, he wants to be by her side at all costs.
They gave her Covid's tests and after a few hours the result was known, confirming what she already knew... was positive and was quickly put into intensive care, as the treatment was very invasive since she was intubated.
BlackWargreymon learns the worst way that her human companion had been infected by the most serious form of Covid, and she could lose her life wasn't assisted in time.
She was in a private room, guarded 24 hours a day, and BlackWargreymon took the opportunity to stay with her... never let her out of sight during the 15 days she was admitted to that hospital.
End of Flashback...
BlackWargreymon continues by her side holding her hand, continuing to watch her sleep, and caresses Maxine's black hair, which looks like a curtain on the pillow, "It's all my fault... I should have protected you from this Covid." And continues to caress her, suffering.
Then something happens, his hand tightens, and when he sees it, " Maxine... you woke up!" She nods, she can't talk, because is intubated, "You survived!" The alarm had gone off, and BlackWargreymon hides, watching the action unfold.
A doctor and a nurse went to the room, seeing that the girl is awake, "How do you feel, Maxine?" She signalled with her hand that everything is fine, the doctor just says, "You've been on the ventilator for 15 days, we feared the worst!" She grabs the doctor's hand, so listen, "If you woke up by yourself, then you should be able to breathe without the help of the ventilator." A nod.
Then the tube was pulled out of her throat and she coughed, "So how do you feel, Maxi?" She replies in a hoarse voice, "Very tired, Richards!" He just says, "Unfortunately you can't have visitors." She sees a rosary that's in her left hand, "Who gave me this?" Richards replies, "It was someone of great faith!" She smiles, "Thank you!" The doctor just says, "You acted fast, and because of that you were helped in time." A lament is heard, "I did everything to avoid being infected, and yet..." The doctor just tells you, "Maxi, it's the risks of our profession, don't beat yourself up, get some rest, okay? In a few days, you'll be home recovering!" She waves, "Thank you." He just tells him, "We'll continue your surveillance 24/7 until you're discharged from the hospital." She waves, then say goodbye to her, because they had more patients to see.
When the coast is free BlackWargreymon goes to her, holding her hand, interlacing his fingers in hers, hearing her speaking in a hoarse voice, "I am so sorry… I didn't listen to you!" He noticed regret in her voice, but he deep breath, "And I failed to protect you!" She answers, "Hush you idiot…don't say that!" He kneels, laying his head on her flat stomach, "I don't deserve it..." She caresses his blonde hair, "Yes you deserve." And she keeps caressing his hair, "I feel so tired." He raises his head, seeing that she is closing her eyes, "Rest, I will stay here beside you." Maxine smiles, falling asleep, while BlackWargreymon holds her hand, watching her sleep, knowing that she is safe.
