Happy Birthday, Kyoya!
Summary: Just as the title says! A cute little one-shot of Dino struggling to make his beloved student's special day, well, special, but because this is Namimori (and KHR in general) insanity and chaos ensues. D18, R/F. Can be from the same universe as My Heart Goes Thump-Thump-Thump
A/N: Finally finished this fic! Happy belated birthday to our favorite Cloudy Skylark!
Dino Cavallone was a man on a mission.
He has been preparing for this for months and he was finally ready, thanks to the help of his ever loyal famiglia. Really, he'd be lost without them, especially without Romario and his inside man - as much as such a thing can exist within the Namimori Middle School Disciplinary Committee, the bunch of loyalist fanatics that they are - in one Kusakabe Tetsuya. They all helped him prepare because they knew this really meant a lot to him.
After all, it was his beloved not-cute student's birthday today!
Now, Dino didn't actually know the age Hibari Kyoya was turning, as that information was as secret as ever, despite him gaining the knowledge of his future self from the future-that-wasn't-and-won't-be and the whole mess that came from Tsuna's Inheritance ceremony and then the Arcobaleno mess with Kawahira that had followed soon afterwards. Even with Fon, Kyoya's most beloved uncle and one of the few people in this world that he truly respects, having returned to soften some of Kyoya's sharpest, roughest edges, the younger Skylark remained as much a mystery as ever before.
Dino had begged Reborn to tell him something about his student, but the hitman had taken great joy in rebuffing him and gleefully, instead, informed him that if he oversteps, his body will never be found. Not even by Mammon. Dino, of course, believed him, but still found it mean that his former tutor wouldn't help him at least a little bit! And here he thought they were friends! Family, practically!
That's why they'd turned to Kusakabe, who had, at first, been hesitant, to be honest, but once he heard that Dino just wanted to shower Kyoya in the love and appreciation he clearly deserves, the pompadour teen had been fully on board!
That's how Dino got a few clues that his older self never could, which helped a great deal in his planning of their date on Kyoya's birthday. He'd already known the places Kyoya might like to eat at and the food he preferred, but Kusakabe provided him with the type of music Kyoya might like and what type of presents he would reject outright, no matter how impolite it might be. He felt that he was fairly ready for the big day by the time May 5th arrived and he landed in his private plane in Namimori. (It still surprised him such a small town had its own airport, but Namimori was Hibari territory and he knew Kyoya lived in a mansion. Kyoya was as rich as any mafia Don and Namimori prospered under his careful, iron rule.) All of his paperwork was done, the gift was prepared and already shipped to the location where he planned on giving it to Kyoya, the reservations were triple checked, Kusakabe had confirmed the Disciplinary Committee were on the lookout to deal with everything and anything that usually might draw Kyoya's attention away from private pleasure's and indulgences and his visit was kept a secret from his beloved not (but actually totally) cute student so he can surprise him. He'd even called Tsuna and asked his honorary little brother to try and keep his Family away from the head prefect for the day and, if at all possible, prevent Reborn from dragging the younger Hibari into whatever chaos the former Sun Arcobaleno usually organized or the natural chaos that was simply Vongola heritage. He knew the latter would be all but impossible but he had faith in Fon being around to eventually coral his lover, if for no other reason than because Fon was a doting, overprotective parent and would want for his nephew (coughsoncough) to have a nice, peaceful birthday.
So, plan ready and set, his heart and mind determined and everything prepared, he was certain he could provide a wonderful birthday date for Kyoya, where he might or might not be planning to finally ask the younger Skylark to officially be his lover.
(Boyfriend sounded so ... casual. So childish. And he'd struggled enough with their age gap when he realized his feelings for Kyoya, he really didn't need a reminder every day for the rest of their lives. And yes, Dino did intend to stay with Kyoya for as long as the Skylark may let him. Their future selves from the future that wasn't had tried being a couple, but the whole Millefiore shitstorm had Kyoya focusing more on Box Weapons and Dino on protecting his famiglia since they were the Vongola's closest allies. Dino knew through the memories of his older self that he and Kyoya stayed what might be crudely called 'fuck buddies', never venturing into the more intimate aspects of a relationship, even if it was clear they both wanted to. The biggest clue was how TYL Kyoya entrusted TYL Dino to train and watch over his younger self and Tsuna and the others. Not that Kyoya had needed Dino to really train him, just like Kyoya had never needed a tutor. He needed a sparring partner and Dino had been glad to oblige. But that wasn't the point. The point was, only three people had known about Tsuna's, Kyoya's and Irie's plan and it was the three men themselves. No one else knew. No one else was supposed to know. And yet Kyoya had told Dino anyway. He'd trusted Dino to follow his instructions, keep the young Vongola Tenth Generation safe and help them save their world. To save the Arcobaleno. And after he learned just who and what two of the Arcobaleno are to Kyoya, well, he truly understood the amount of trust Kyoya had put in him and he'd felt honored. He hoped to live up to that trust this time around, too, but this time, he won't hesitate. He'll ask Kyoya to be his lover without restraining the Cloud with your typical definitions of relationships. He was sure they could make it.)
Of course, he should have known that all best laid plans usually go very, very chaotically wrong.
Especially if one intends to execute said plans in Namimori.
It started off with his car being late for pickup because of a flat tire. Romario and all of his other men spent five minutes apologizing and all but begging for forgiveness and that was just the ones who had been his escorts during the flight. The men who were supposed to pick them up needed fifteen minutes of apologizing and another ten of Dino reassuring them that it was fine before they could leave the airport and start making their way towards where Kyoya was undoubtedly going to be found.
Then, just as they were nearing the school, Gokudera's cat slash miniature leopard that can grow big who is actually part of his Vongola Gear darted out of seemingly nowhere in front of their car with Smokin' Bomb Hayato himself right on Uri's heels. Uri hissed at his master, as he was always wont to, before deciding to use the Cavallone's car as his exit route, but because Uri was agitated, he was leaking Storm Flames all over the place and Dino and his men had to scramble out of the car lest they get disintegrated right along with it. Gokudera shouted a halfhearted apology but continued chasing his animal partner without pausing.
"I guess we're walking," Dino said with a sigh, feeling lucky that his men had helped him save the first few presents he was going to bestow on Kyoya as soon as he found him. It wasn't anything big, but Kyoya liked certain brands of incense that are hard to come by in Japan and there was actually a Turkish mint and green tea ice cream the Cloud liked that he had to specially order every other month if he wants to indulge in one of the rare sweets he likes. "I just hope the ice cream doesn't melt."
The next problem they encountered by virtue of Kyoya not being where Kusakabe had reported him just fifteen minutes ago.
"I apologize," the pompadour teen said with a bow as Dino stared dejectedly at the empty desk where Kyoya should have been, eating his favorite ice cream by now and lighting the incense he liked to make a more peaceful atmosphere in his office. (And yes, it was Kyoya's office, despite it being the Reception Room. Everything in Nami-chuu was Hibari's, so this room was, too.) "But Mukuro Rokudo decided to come near the school grounds and caused a ruckus to gain the Chairman's attention so they could fight. Apparently, Verde has been working on a device like the one they used during the Representative Battles that would work on only one Mist and they decided testing it against the Chairman would be the best way to go."
"They'll be lucky if Kyoya doesn't smash it into pieces," Romario had commented and the rest of them could only sweatdrop and nod, because Kyoya would, indeed, do something like that.
"I'm kind of surprised they even had the guts to go after him of all people, considering everything." Fon was all but Kyoya's parent. Kyoya literally never knew any other parental figure but Fon. And since Fon and Reborn were together, Reborn was a parent to Kyoya, too, especially as of late, as the two former Arcobaleno's relationship progressed and got more intimate, stronger and more amazing by the day.
And Verde was not a fighter.
And he had a sort of begrudging fear of both the Sun and the Storm Arcobaleno, the strongest two of their group.
Honestly, Dino was really surprised Verde had the guts to let that thing get tested on Hibari Kyoya of all people.
Then again, it could have been Mukuro's idea. The treacherous Mist and Kyoya had managed to form a sort of rapport based on respect and the fact that neither of them truly identified with the Vongola in the future. Kyoya still held a grudge against him and pretty much despised all Mists and illusions, but he and Mukuro - and Chrome, to an extent - had seriously managed to be one of the most terrifying team ups Dino had ever seen, especially during the fight against Bermuda.
Someone should seriously check on them, though. This Kyoya no longer had to be 'patient towards herbivores' because his uncle was safe and he didn't have ten years of experience to mellow down his more violent urges.
And since everyone already knew he was crazy strong - stronger than any of them had thought he could ever be before - he wouldn't exactly have a reason to hold back.
Thankfully, Dino did manage to find Kyoya before any serious carnage could take place.
Actually, it seems he and Mukuto had parted on ... amicable terms, something Dino had never seen even in his memories from his future self. Kyoya seemed to be in a grumpy mood instead of his usual cold calm, but that was soon replaced by honest surprise when he looked up and saw Dino waiting for him at the edges of what had served as the two Vongola Guardians (only in name) impromptu battleground.
"Yo, Kyoya! Long time no see, ne?" He greeted cheerily when the younger came to a stop in front of him. Kyoya still looked as youthful as ever and he'll remain looking like a teenager until he's twenty, which is when he'll finally hit his last growth spurt and gain the sharpness of the older Kyoya's features. The eyes were the same ones as in his gained memories, though. Always sharp, always flashing with that hint of danger, always so alluring and pretty with their silver-blue color. Dino had never seen eyes like Kyoya's and it had been one of the first things to draw him in.
"What are you doing here, Bucking Horse? Don't you actually have stuff to do in Italy or are you just being lazy?" Romario, of course, had to choke back a laugh at that while the blond Don just pouted at his not-cute student's words.
"It's not like that at all! I've done all my work for the next two weeks and decided I needed a little break! And what better way to spend my break than come see my precious Kyoya, right?"
The prefect frowned at him with something akin to confusion for a moment before the expression cleared off of his face. "You're wasting your time, then. I have to patrol Namimori and make sure the discipline is kept."
"We ran into Kusakabe on our way here, Kyoya," Romario commented behind Dino and the blond wanted to thank his most loyal man like a starving man thanks the first person to give him a scrap of food. Kyoya, until he got over his battle lust enough that he can put it into the back of his mind, always appreciated Romario's silence and quiet presence and calm which was a nice contrast to Dino's enthusiasm that came from being around the Hibari. "He says that the Disciplinary Committee had it covered and we even sent a few of our own men to help out should they need it. Surely you can spare a few hours for Dino?"
'Romario, I could kiss you! You're the best damn wingman in the world!'
Kyoya seemed to think his words over for a bit before grunting an acceptance. "No crowding," was the warning he gave before he put away his tonfa and actually followed Dino into the second car they'd rented for the day, arching an eyebrow at the model. "What happened to the other one?"
"Flame accident," was all Dino said, trying his best not to give too much away. Or find himself in the situation where he had to explain that what might as well be a kitten has destroyed his car.
"The bomb herbivore's kit did it, didn't it," Kyoya said, no trace of a question in sight and Dino just sweatdropped. He wasn't even surprised anymore by how Kyoya might know things like these. It was just who Kyoya was and what he was like.
Thankfully, the trip to the restaurant was a quiet and peaceful one. Well, peaceful for everything and everyone but Dino's heart as he finally handed Kyoya one of his gifts. (Not the ice cream or the incense. He'd left those in the Reception Room with a note so Kyoya can enjoy them at another time. Shame, but it's how life is sometimes.) He smiled and tried not to sweat too nervously as he gave Kyoya the little wrapped box to his beloved little Cloud. "Happy birthday, Kyoya."
Those sharp, dangerous, perceptive eyes darted up to him with surprise and a bit of suspicion before - if his own eyes weren't playing tricks on him - they softened just milliseconds before he looked back down at his package.
It was a Box Weapon and a set of Cloud rings the likes of which TYL Kyoya would usually use in his fights, only the Box Weapon was a storage type and was full of a fair arsenal of weapons he'd learned from Kusakabe that Kyoya knew how to use. (For all that Fon had, apparently, been present for relatively too little a part of Kyoya's life, the master martial artist had imparted much of his skill and knowledge on his nephew besides hand to hand and the mastery of tonfa.) The Box could only be used with rings, hence why Dino had gone out of his way to find two rings of each strength category and boy, was it hard to find the A class ones.
"I know you really like fighting with Roll and that rings are somewhat of a bother to you during a fight, but I thought it couldn't hurt to always have more weapons at your side if it ever turns out you might need something other than tonfa, chains and handcuffs."
Kyoya spent a long moment staring down at the gift and Dino started sweating a bit the longer it lasted, rather uncomfortable and getting a bit anxious to witness his beloved student's reaction. Kyoya stayed quiet a moment longer before he looked up with a smirk, silver-blue eyes meeting amber ones. "When can we test them out?"
Dino grinned, feeling himself relax in the face of Kyoya's approval and appreciation showed in the only way the Cloud knew how. "Anytime you'd like, but can it be tomorrow? I don't want to be kicked in the stomach after lunch."
"Herbivore," grunted the younger Hibari, though it was mostly fond. Dino actually felt himself melt and he saw from the corner of his eye that Romario was doing his best to hold back happy, proud tears, obviously glad for his boss.
Dino honestly foolishly thought that he'd survived the bullshit storm that was the usual day at Namimori after the incident with the car and Smocking Bomb's Vongola Gear, Mukuro's unexpected visit and the flat tire on the car when he'd landed.
He should have known better when, as soon as they entered his chosen restaurant - Dino focusing entirely too much on the expression of pleasant surprise on Kyoya's face when he realized their lunch destination - a barrage of knives was thrown their way. Really, it was only Kyoya's scary reflexes and his natural battle proficiency that saved them from becoming pincushions right then and there. Dino hadn't been there in person to see Kyoya catch Belphegor's knives during the Sky Battle, almost two years ago, but he'd heard stories of it several times, usually told by an awed Basil or an impressed Shamal. Even Reborn had commented on it a few times and that was some really high praise. He, of course, found it impressive but also kind of hot, which was not something he could afford right now. Fon had made it very clear what would happen to him should he initiate anything sexually with the Storm Arcobaleno's nephew (read: son) and Dino didn't doubt the usually serene man could more than follow through. He was, after all, Reborn's match, even if only just.
"Ushishishi," came Bel's usual laugh and Dino felt himself wilt when he saw the entire Varia High Command sitting at one of the biggest tables at the back, the waiting staff terrified and doing their best to please the picky Xanxus.
"VOI! What are you doing here, Bucking Bronco!?" Was Squalo's greeting as he wiped what must have been vine off of his face. Xanxus was having a food tantrum again, it seemed. Dino often questioned Squalo's sanity for staying with the man who abused him non stop, but he himself must be a masochist if he had fallen for Hibari Kyoya of all people.
"Hiiiii~!" Lussuria was the only other one to greet them, Mammon just nodding at Hibari before going back to their obviously expensive yet still minimalist meal.
"What are you doing here, herbivores?" Kyoya demanded, his whole demeanor changing to his 'I'll bite you to death' setting that actually had the Varia wincing. They remembered the beast Kyoya will become and adding the Vongola Gear hadn't exactly helped things. Kyoya now had an unlimited supply of Roll and Cloud weapons, after all. He didn't need his infamous Box Weapon when Roll was ever present in the Cloud Bracelet, nor did he have to worry about the amount of Cloud rings he had on him.
They also didn't actually need their future memories to know Kyoya was crazy strong. The Representative Battles speak for themselves.
Kyoya has been acknowledged by plenty of strong people, including the Varia themselves, too.
They really don't want to piss him off, especially in Namimori.
Well, Bel didn't seem to get that message, at least. Rest in pieces. "We're eating, what does it look like, peasant? Ushishishi."
"Shut up, Bel," hissed Mammon while Xanxus just snorted and went back to his meal. Or one of his meals, whatever attempt at it was. The Varia Mist slash former Arcobaleno turned back to Hibari, inclining their head. "We had some business to attend to in Japan and decided to check in with Fon and Reborn while we're at it. Also, Uni was asking that the former Arcobaleno meet up for some reason, she didn't say why."
"Why tell me all of this?" Kyoya asked suspiciously, narrowing his eyes.
"Because we couldn't find the old man's hitman pet and his boy-toy." Kyoya snarled and even Dino took a step away from the enraged perfect. "We figured one of you trash would pass it on. You're just the first one we ran int-"
Xanxus did not get a chance to finish. Kyoya had manifested a big Spiked Cloud Sphere and had sent Roll to do his thing, which was smash into Xanxus and those closest to him, shattering the table and collapsing the wall behind them. One of the waitresses screamed - she must be new, because everyone else, including the patrons, were all unfazed by it. They were just calculating how much the repairs will cost. No one protested or complained. Levi would have, no doubt, but he'd been taken down along with Xanxus, who had obviously not been expecting the attack.
Kyoya just glared at them, a vicious, protective glint in his eyes. "Show proper respect to your betters or I will bite you to death. Come, Bucking Horse," the teenager said as he turned on his heel and started marching out of the restaurant. "We're leaving."
"But-!" He went to protest but Kyoya didn't stop and Dino knew, if he didn't follow, Kyoya would just go back to Namimori or go on a patrol and the day would be utterly ruined. So, with a sigh, he followed after the younger like a lovesick puppy. He wasn't even ashamed.
How could he be when he'd seen Reborn carter to Fon's wishes more often than he dared to count lest the hitman decided to take him out for knowing such information.
It was a good thing he'd made a reservation at another restaurant, just in case! It was best to be prepared for anything, especially in Namimori! For all he knew, Reborn would decide to let Gokudera blow a street up or encourage Lambo to test out how destructive his Lightning bull can be. Hell, it could even be something normal, like the restaurant losing power or, god forbid, failing a health check. So Dino had prepared and so he led the way to his second choice. It wasn't as private as the other one, but there were booths that were almost completely separated, from each other and the rest of the restaurant, at the back. It wasn't a private, soundproof room with only one or two waiters bothering them, but he hoped Kyoya wouldn't be too annoyed.
Hibari didn't seem to care, seemingly more focused on cooling down from his earlier outburst of rage on his uncle's and Reborn's behalf. (Dino still wasn't exactly sure how his former tutor fit in with the two skylarks but he figured it might be best not to actually ask.) Still, Dino was sure some of the Cloud's favorite food will help improve his mood, while it's still salvageable.
A hostess led them towards their reserved booth but as they were passing one of the occupied booths, both Dino and Kyoya came to a stop when they heard a glass drop and shatter, followed by a familiar voice that sounded perhaps a tad bit too amused. "Took you long enough to notice."
"Oh my chaos-"
"Chichi?" Kyoya asked, shamelessly poking his head around the barrier that separated the booths. Dino, a bit more hesitatingly, followed suit, wary of what might greet his eyes. Sure enough, Kyoya's uncle and the World's Greatest Hitman sat in the booth, across the table from each other. Reborn was the one who had dropped the lass and he looked completely unbothered by the red vine soaking his expensive leather shoes. His eyes were stuck on Fon but not his face, which kind of worried Dino because the blond did not want to know what kind of things the two men got up to in their free time as a couple. His younger companion, though, had no qualms about following the Sun Arcobaleno's gaze and Dino swore he was dreaming when Kyoya lit up in happiness and excitement. "Hn, finally. And congratulations."
Fon smiled fondly while Reborn actually reached out a hand and took Fon's left one in his. That's when Dino saw it and cursed Fon for having decided on this day to, apparently, finally get the two former-and-again-now-current lovers engaged. Properly engaged. Dino couldn't even be angry because he knew this was going to make all three - Fon, Reborn and Kyoya, especially Kyoya - happy and he wanted Kyoya's happiness above all else.
So he smiled at the two, even though he knew this meant he was going to have to search for another place for them to eat because he didn't want to ruin this for the older couple. "Congratulations."
"Thank you," Fon replied even as he just let Reborn marvel at how well the ring fit on Fon's finger. The hitman hadn't even glanced up at them. Dino wasn't sure if he'd ever seen the Arcobaleno this stunned before. Not even when Tsuna got an astounding 70% on his math finals a few months ago. "And happy birthday, Kyoya."
Dino's mouth dropped open as he gawked at the older Hibari. This was planned?! Was this supposed to be Fon's birthday gift to Kyoya!? How was Dino supposed to top that!? He could give Kyoya the entire world and the prefect wouldn't be as happy about it! Did Fon do it on purpose out of overprotective uncle (read: father) sensibilities? But the man was a bit too kind to undermine someone else's efforts-
Or maybe not. Fon is an assassin, one of the best the Triads had ever had. And Kyoya himself had never had a problem with fucking someone over, so who said Fon wasn't the same when it suited his needs?
Dino tried not to slump in defeat when Reborn finally registered they had company. He never let go of Fon's hand but he did reach into an inside pocket on his suit jacket to pull out a gun. Dino sweatdropped as some of the patrons who had the right angle all screamed and dove for cover and he himself prepared himself to get another shovel talk of sorts, now officially as Kyoya's stepfather, but instead, Reborn extended the gun, handle first, to the only Cloud present.
"Happy birthday, Kyoya. We should train together sometime. That one's adjusted to Cloud Flames and I want to see how that attribute affects the Chaos Shot." Fon groaned, Dino paled and the two too battle-happy males actually grinned at each other.
Also, there went Dino's Cloudy gift. And offers of sparring.
They chatted for a bit until a waiter with the two Arcobaleno's appetizers arrived and the younger couple left. Then came the hunt for a good place to eat, but nearly everywhere was either full or required reservations. Dino could not believe how many parents had taken the opportunity to treat their kids on Children's Day, though it kind of made him miss his own parents. His mother, he almost didn't remember, but he definitely missed his father.
Kyoya seemed a bit subdued, too, as they passed houses and even apartment buildings which all had colorful, traditional kites that were usually released from houses that had boys. He must have been remembering his own too short childhood, spent alone on a day that both celebrated him as a child and the day he was born.
In the end, Dino just managed to get a restaurant to pack them a lunch and they ate on a bench in a nearby park. Kyoya seemed to relax as Hibird started playing with other birds - usually protecting sparrows from annoying pigeons; heh, like master, like pet, Hibird was a force not to be messed with, relying on intelligence where he lacked size - and no one disturbed them. Dino started hoping that the rest of the day might go smoothly as he started leading Kyoya towards their final destination and his main gift to the Cloud.
Unfortunately, the weather was already changing and dark, heavy clouds suddenly ruled the skies, announcing rain, at the very least, which made Dino silently cry as the final gift came into view.
Even Kyoya's admiring and appreciative gaze couldn't console him.
The car was sleek, expensive and made for speed. It had a strong engine and could go from zero to one hundred in under seven seconds while still being disguised as an ordinary, civilian street car. It wasn't. The glass was not only tinted, but also bullet proof, the rest of the car made out of the same material as an armored tank. Dino had paid a lot of money to have it custom made, just for Kyoya, so he can go as fast as he wants or needs while remaining perfectly safe.
His own usual red Ferrari was parked next to the black beauty meant for his student, but before they could even approach the cars, the clouds opened up and rain soaked them in seconds. It was an outright downpour. Driving a normal car would be dangerous, let alone having a race in these speed demons.
He looked over to his soaked not cute student and couldn't help but apologize. "I'm sorry, Kyoya. I tried to give you a perfect day for your birthday with gifts you'd actually like and treat you to your favorite meal in a good restaurant, but it was just one thing after the other and the day is now officially ruined." And to think he had thought to ask Kyoya to be his lover, officially. What was he even thinking? He isn't Reborn, who'd managed to win both of the skylarks over, if in different ways, and was soon going to marry Fon. Dino was just dame dame. An herbivore. How had he ever thought Kyoya would ever say yes, even if he could provide him with a perfect date on his birthday? Stupid, useless, wimpy-
"What are you talking about? My day wasn't ruined." Dino looked back to Kyoya - when had he lowered his gaze? - to find the prefect studying him with a look in his eyes Dino wasn't sure he'd ever seen directed at him before. Not even TYL Dino had had this honor! "I got to put the Monkey King in his place again, Chichi and Renato are finally getting back together and properly this time, we had a nice lunch and now I have a car of my own, not just my motorcycle." He smirked at that before looking away from Dino. The tone of his voice for what he said next matched, somewhat, the way he had thanked the blond when Dino had informed him Tsuna and the others had found some way to save the Arcobaleno. "And I didn't spend today alone."
Dino almost couldn't believe it. Even Clouds got lonely on their birthdays? He had never considered that possible! Yet here they were. Here Kyoya was, actually standing in the rain with Dino, getting soaked to the bone, and reaching out to take a hold of his hand. Not to attack him or make him spar with him. Just to hold.
'Kyoya's hand is so small and warm.' Yet it was calloused from years of training in hand to hand and with tonfa.
"So thank you, Bucking Horse. No," the younger shook his head, now properly looking up at the Cavallone Don. "Thank you, Dino."
The Italian felt his face almost crack from the force and size of his smile. He'd done it! He'd given Kyoya a birthday to remember fondly! And while he still hasn't asked the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee to be his lover, officially, he had the feeling that there was no need to. And he liked that. Perhaps TYL Dino and TYL Kyoya hadn't put an official label on them just because they didn't need it. Perhaps Kyoya hadn't wanted to be confined within the usual relationship norms that a label would bring.
None of that mattered and now Dino understood. Really all that mattered was Kyoya and the fact that, when he embraced him, Kyoya didn't pull away or hit him. And while kissing in the rain wasn't as romantic as it was made out to be in the movies, Dino will fight with his life to keep this.
Really, all in all ...
"Happy birthday, Kyoya."
It was a good date.
