The Court

A "My Hero Academia" Experimental Chapter

Yu Takeyama was someone who wasn't easily intimidated. She herself was someone who was actually quite intimidating herself in certain situations. The most obvious way was whenever she activated her quirk, "Gigantification." She may have considered herself quite the looker, but it's easy to be scared of a 67-foot-tall woman when she could easily crush you if you were an ant. In the end, it was a challenge to truly unnerve her.

However, when she had that odd dream just 3 days ago, she had been on edge. It seemed like something that was out of a movie or an anime. Not a lot of people remember what the human mind conjures when asleep, but her dream seemed more like real life, like a memory.

She was at first walking through the city of Musutafu. It was sunset, but something seemed off to her from the moment she entered. The streets were empty. No cars, no pedestrians, no one.

Her footsteps echoed through the empty streets. "Hello?" She called out. There wasn't a response. A few seconds passed, and she called out a second time. Again, there was no response. She couldn't even hear the gust of wind blowing at her skin.

It's quite an interesting thing in society, silence. We live in a world where there is constantly some form of noise or sound, that it mostly just fades into the background for us. The moment you take away that sound, that comfort of knowing there will always be something to hear, you're left with nothing. Nothing but an unnatural silence.

What really started to unnerve her though was that when she tried to activate her quirk to try and see someone, anyone else in the city, it didn't work. She tried a few more times, but no matter what she did she couldn't grow. It was only after that when she heard something other than the wind blowing.

It sounded something akin to a boom. Almost like someone hitting the ground, except they sounded much bigger than an average person.

And the sound was coming from right around the corner at the end of the block.

Yu was desperate for something, anything than the oppressive silence, so she did what any other person would do in her situation: She ran towards the sound. When she reached around the corner though, she stopped dead in her tracks.

It was…her. It was her taking down that massive villain that was on top of the train tracks back in…March? April? To be honest, she couldn't remember the date.

There she was. Taking down the villain and talking with interviewers about her newest victory. It was a victory that acted as a major stepping stone into the spotlight in the hero world. In that moment though, she still couldn't hear anything. Well…all except for one thing. Footsteps. Footsteps that didn't belong to her. Turning and looking right next to her was another hero, and a friend of hers: Kamui Woods. When she saw him though, she could only see a look of defeat on his face.

"Well now, isn't this interesting?"

The first voice that wasn't from herself, nor from the tree-like hero before her, sounded like it was right next to her.

Looking to her right, there was someone looking on at the scene. Even though he was only a few feet away from her, Yu couldn't tell who it was. It was almost as if his very figure was covered in a cloak made of static from a TV instead of cloth. It was disorienting for her to look at, frankly. Yu felt she could almost see a face under the static hood, but it seemed to be constantly changing at the last second.

"Who are you?" Yu asked.

The figure simply said nothing and turned to look behind him. "The Hero known as Mt. Lady is someone who is achieving the bare minimum to achieve success." His voice also bore a similarity to being static, along with sounding layered as well. With his left arm, He made a sweeping gesture to the "other" Mt. Lady who was being interviewed. "Landing the final blow AND taking all the credit when someone else deserved it," With His right arm, he did the same. "Using your fame and your body to avoid payments,"

Yu turned to where he was now gesturing, and she saw what seemed to be dozens of copies of herself, all in seemingly different situations.

When she actually looked closer though, they were all memories she had of either getting food for free, or even receiving other products without paying.

She heard the voice of the figure continue. "The examples are numerous, borderline countless." Within the blink of an eye, the figure suddenly appeared before her, almost as if he teleported. "And yet, these crimes are nothing compared to your greatest sin."

She took a step back in surprise. All of Yu's instincts were screaming that this person, whoever he was, was a villain. Yet despite this she couldn't run, nor could she attack him. It was as if her body wouldn't let her.

Hesitantly, she asked "What…was my greatest sin?"

The figure was silent for a moment or two. "If you don't even know what it is, then I have no obligation to tell you." The figure turned and started to walk away. "Yu Takeyama, you see the position of 'hero' as nothing but a way to seek fame and glory. The mantle holds no true meaning for you." He spun around to face her once again, then pointed directly at her. "Mt. Lady, The Court finds you…unworthy."

With how fickle public interest gets regarding current events, you would think that the news of something that happened a week ago would have died down, and yet people are still talking about All Might's final battle with the villain "All-For-One." To be fair, it WAS essentially the retirement of who was the world's number one hero for years.

Not to mention the fact that he took down who was probably the single most powerful villain of their time, despite people knowing little to nothing about him aside from the fact that All Might had an incredibly difficult time defeating him.

It was no wonder that discussions were still happening on the street, on the internet, and anywhere people could talk. All Might and All-For-One were the only things that occupied the public's thoughts.

With that in mind, it was quite understandable that few people, if any, noticed that Mt. Lady formally and publicly stepped down from being a pro hero. She even stated that she regretted the fact that she ever took the position to begin with.

Author's Note:

Hey guys, Silver here.

SO. I've been watching a lot of My Hero Academia since they've finally started releasing the dub of their latest season, and I've had this idea for an MHA story since Christmastime.

Depending on how things go and how well this may or may not be received, I just wanted to write something different for a change. I have an SAO story that I need to finish that I honestly might go back and re-write/revise just because I have a better idea of where I want THAT to go when I did, but I just wasn't feeling it at the moment.

So I decided to try and write something different just to refresh myself. Anyways, as always, please leave constructive criticism on how I can improve myself, this story, and my writing as a whole. Thanks a bunch, and have a good one!
