AN – Hi everyone! I was on here before with a Calzona story but then life happened… Now I'd like to try something new. I know Rizzoli & Isles has been over for a while now, but I recently re-watched it and a cool story idea for them. It deviates from the original storyline, so be warned. Completely AU.

Chapter one

Jane Rizzoli is late for work. Again. She lives two blocks from the bar she's a bartender in, so why arrive ten minutes early? No, she'd rather arrive just in time by leaving her apartment five minutes before her shift starts.

But tonight, her dog, Jo Friday, decided it was a good time to hide one of her work sneakers and she spent a good ten minutes looking for it before running out the door, hopping while she tries to get it on.

When she steps out of her apartment, she discovers that it's raining but it's too late to go back to grab her umbrella and what kind of damage could a little bit of rain do in such a short space of time anyway?

So, she pulls her jacket over her head and starts running in the direction of the bar.

WHAK!

"What the hell?!" Jane shouts at the same time a small yelp comes out of the body she's just slammed into.

"Watch where you're going!" She yells just as she starts to fix a stealthy glare on her target, but her face goes slack before she could react.

In front of her is a petite blonde woman with coffee running down the front of her shirt, trying to fan it while staring at the ground where her notebook is lying in the rain.

"I'm so sorry," says the woman politely with a pained face. "You really shouldn't run in the rain," she adds as an afterthought.

Jane just looks at the woman for what feels like too long while taking in her soft features. She's sure her eyes are green from the brief eye contact they made, she has honey blonde hair that looks softer than a baby's, she's adorably short and wearing what looks like a really expensive sweater underneath an even more expensive coat.

"You really shouldn't have your nose in a book while you walk. Who even reads in the rain?!" Jane asks.

"I wasn't reading, I was making a note and I have an umbrella. Besides I was keeping to the left side, as you should have done to avoid bumping into oncoming pedestrians," the said answered without a beat.

"Left side…" Jane mumbled as she raked a hand through her now soaked hair. "Well, I'm sorry miss sidewalk monitor."

When the woman looked up again, Jane could tell that her usual jest has been mistook for annoyance. Well, sure she was annoyed because she was late, but it was meant as a joke.

"I'm sorry, that was mean. I'm in a hurry but I'm sorry for spilling your coffee all over you. I can get you another if you'd like?"

"No, thank you," the woman answered simply while once again looking down sadly at her coffee-stained sweater.

"I can pay for our dry-cleaning?" Jane's statement came out as more of a question as she patted her pockets and realized that she had left her wallet at home.

"No, thank you," was all she got again.

"Well…" Jane started, feeling at a loss for words not knowing what to say next.

The honey blonde woman stared at her with thoughtful eyes before she nodded once and said a soft "goodbye", angling around Jane and setting off into the opposite direction.

Watching the woman leave, Jane looked at her watch again and started running off towards the bar.

AN – How was that?
