Make it red

Hermione stared at the colours in front of her. The red reminded her of the couches in their old common room, and the gold looked like the fire she used to sit by to read when she was younger. Hermione couldn't help but smile at it.

She knew that this was her husband's doing, and her heart couldn't help but swell with love for him. Harry had been a constant in her life since their first year, and even after sixteen years, he was still the most thoughtful man she had ever met.

"What do you think, love?" Harry said, hugging her from behind. Hermione sighed and leaned back into her husband's chest. "Dad helped me pick up everything. Mum worried that maybe you wouldn't like it as much as I do."

"Your mum is a very wise woman," Hermione said softly, not wanting Harry to let go of her. "But I don't think it wise to have so much red in a baby's room."

"But it's our baby! It's going to be a Gryffindor through and through!" Harry said, turning Hermione around and looking at her. "Why can't this room reflect that? Look at the lion on the wall!"

Hermione always loved how Harry was so passionate about the things that he liked, even if it was just a colour scheme for their baby's room. But in the end, no matter what he said, the colour scheme wasn't going to stay.

"You can insist on our child being a Gryffindor, Harry, but our baby isn't going to have a room full of red." Hermione mocking glared in Harry's direction, who only smirked at her. "Red is too bold to have in a baby's room. It could invoke a volatile personality. Are you really going to argue about this with your pregnant wife?"

"I've already learnt that is something that never ends well." A voice from the doorway caught their attention. "Don't argue with a pregnant woman, they are vicious when it comes to hexing you."

"See, listen to your father, Harry." Hermione chuckled at the face Harry was making. "Even if he helped you use so much red in this room that my eyes are starting to hurt."

"I tried to stop them, honey, but you know how stubborn Potter men can be when they want something." Lily Potter entered the room alongside her husband. "How is my grandbaby doing today?"

"Finally stopped sitting on top of my bladder, so I'd consider that a win." Hermione smiled conspiratory at Lily, while James and Harry rolled their eyes at them. "Now, if you can help me convince your son that this room's current colour-scheme isn't suitable for a baby, I'll be happier."

"I don't want to get rid of the red, it's pretty and it took so long to paint," Harry said, his lower lip jutting out petulantly, which in turn made Hermione laugh. "But we can still keep the gold ornaments, right?"

"Of course we can, love. We can even keep some of the red parts as an accent colour. Just maybe not the main one." Hermione hugged her husband, kissing his pout away. "The gold will be soothing for the baby if we do something subtle. Do you understand that word? Subtle."

Harry started to argue with Hermione, and James walked over to Lily and hugged her to his side, smiling at the scene in front of them.

"It's almost like looking at a younger version of ourselves, don't you think?" James whispered in her ear, making her blush.

"Except that this time, Hermione is putting her foot down with the Gryffindor colours, and that's so nice to see." Lily smirked up at him. "What do you think they're going to argue about next?"

"The baby's name, since they don't want to know if they're having a boy or a girl yet," James whispered, looking at Hermione's small baby bump. "He's probably going to do anything she wants, if she lets him choose the name."

"Wasn't it like this with us?" Lily smiled and kissed James' cheek. "I can't wait to meet our grandbaby and spoil them just like we always dreamed of."

"I'd never thought this would happen so soon." James gazed into Lily's eyes, seeing all the love they held for each other reflected in them. "Let's leave the lovebirds to argue."

The older couple silently retreated from the room, and the other couple didn't even realise that they were alone.

"Harry, we can't have scarlet-red cabinets! I don't care if you think it looks cool." Hermione glared at her husband before taking a breath. "Fine! We can leave some red in the room, but not the amount that you've used right now," Hermione said in a final tone, and Harry knew that this was the most that she would compromise.

"You're the boss," Harry said, kissing her lips lightly. "Since we've finally decided on a colour scheme, what do you think we should name our baby?"

"If it's a girl, I'd like to name her Emily," Hermione said, placing her finger on her chin. "And if it's a boy, how about Philip?"

Harry scrunched up his nose. "No, I don't like Philip. How about Eric?"

And just like that, their next argument began.
