Demonology: Demoning 101
Task #1: Fall from Grace. Well, we all know that demons are angels that have fallen from grace. If you can't do this, I don't even know why you're in this class. Fall or go back and sit on your fluffy cloud and stop wasting my time!
Prompt: Write an Angel!AU. Alt: Write about choosing sides/allegiances. I'm choosing to write the alt prompt.
Disclaimer: I don't own any Harry Potter characters.
Truth be told, Narcissa never wanted to be involved with Voldemort or any of his followers. However, that's what she got when she had Bellatrix Lestrange as a sister and Lucius Malfoy as a husband.
She would never admit it out loud but she wished she had a quiet life out in the country with a cute cottage by a small creek, and by that creek a forest filled with the most beautiful trees and creatures. Outside the home? Only the best and most beautiful orchids and roses with a bird bath in the garden.
In the cottage would be a warm, welcoming living room with three bedrooms, got to have a room for guests after all. Narcissa would spend a fair amount in the kitchen with her husband with a golden retriever to keep her son company.
Oh yes, she had plenty of time to think about this.
"Can't we just leave?" Narcissa practically begged Lucius after a tense and stressful dinner with other Death Eaters.
Lucius looked horrified at the suggestion. "We can't just leave, I'm one of my lord's most faithful followers." He paused to think. "Besides your sister... and Severus."
"Think of what this could do to Draco!" Narcissa's eyes flickered towards the stairs, hoping and praying her son wouldn't choose this moment to wake up and come downstairs.
"Oh nonsense," her husband hand waved. "Severus and I started drabbling at dark magic at a young age; we turned out fine."
To the Malfoy matriarch's dismay, she was overruled. At least she got her way and Draco went to Hogwarts instead of Durmstrang, something she fought with Lucius hard for.
This turned into something she regretted; perhaps Draco being farther away would've slowed down the process of him taking the Dark Mark. But then again, Durmstrang was notorious for having the dark arts in their studies; along with having one of the most dangerous wizards of all time, Gellert Grindelwald, as a student.
So either way I lose. Narcissa thought bitterly to herself as she eyed the tattoo on her son's arm in disgust.
"Oh, isn't it great, mother?" Draco asked when he caught his mother's gaze.
Faking a grin, Narcissa agreed, "Very much."
It all came to a head when Albus Dumbledore was killed and Severus took over as headmaster, not even letting deputy headmistress Minerva McGonagall get the title.
To her dismay, Narcissa got to hear all about the torture that the Carrows got to use when students refused to use curses on each other at the next party she and Lucius hosted. She wasn't even surprised, the Carrows seemed to be void of any emotion or empathy.
Before she even knew what was happening, she was being dragged behind Lucius at Hogwarts. She didn't even want to be here; she just wanted the cottage with the golden retriever!
When she was tasked with seeing if Harry Potter was still alive, her eyes widened when she noticed the boy still breathing. She decided to take this to her advantage.
"Draco?" She whispered lowly.
"Alive," Harry muttered out of the corner of his mouth. "In the castle."
This could be her chance! Did she dare to switch sides now?
Straightening up, the woman looked over her shoulder and declared, "Dead." A life for a life.
When she found Draco, she grabbed his arm and fled the premise with Lucius following close behind with her deciding there and then she was done with this lifestyle.
And so she sat in her cottage with Lucius years later, a golden retriever napping at her feet while she rocked her grandson, Scorpius, in her arms.
This was her life and that was how she wanted it.
