Water laps up, dampening the bridge's planks and glistening on Catra's boots.
"Catra!" Adora yells, pinch-faced. Her nerves crackle like a bolt of lightning. "Keep it steady! Don't shift your weight!"
A yowl sounds, heightening with Catra's intensifying horror.
"Leeeeeaveee meeee alooooone!"
Adora winces, softly slamming a ball-up fist against her own forehead. This is her fault, she thinks.
It took some gentle convincing, and a pocketful of sugary sweets that a narrow-eyed Catra begrudgingly gnawed on, but Adora managed to get her very fearful of water girlfriend onto the low-level, wood-plank bridge. It would hold if they decided to cross.
She knows if given the opportunity, Catra would punch water in the face if it had a face.
(And if the face were not made of water.)
"All you gotta do is step over the broken plank! And then you can walk over to me!" Adora yells again, cupping her hands over her mouth. "I know you can do it!" She knows that trying to reach Catra herself will result in the entire bridge submerging.
Catra's short, furry ears twitch.
She arches for a long and tentative step, and then retreats, hissing.
Adora sighs.
Well… this isn't how she wanted to break the news, especially after recovering from a battle with a strong magical pollen…
But…
"I'm pregnant!"
"You're lying," Catra grumbles, loud enough for it to reach Adora's burning ears.
"I'm not!" Adora's expression brightens. She holds out her arms expectantly. "Now come over here and kiss me!"
Catra's fierce expressions drops, replacing with awe.
To her relief, Adora watches as her stubborn and hot-headed girlfriend practically leaps over the broken wood-plank and rushes off the bridge.
Catra's pointy, black nails dig deep into Adora's jacket, as she yanks her in and paws possessively over Adora's sides. One of Catra's palms move to Adora's flat, muscular stomach, rubbing there as if to inspect her. Adora's left hand holds onto Catra's hand.
Adora presses her mouth, over and over, to those warm lips. Catra yanks her in, purring lowly.
"I knew you could do it…"
"Sheesh, you worry too much," Catra drawls, smirking and nuzzling their noses together. Adora giggles.
They can do anything together, she thinks.
Even raise their baby.
