p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"The wind howled as it raged across the snowy land. The snow flared in dramatic swirls as it was raised from the ground. A figure in the snow. A small bat pony. Her grey fur stood out from the snow, but her white and pale pink mane easily blended in. She had her membrane wings folded tightly to her, she couldn't remember the last time she felt the tips of the fingers. She had lost count of the days. How did she get here again?. Something about a crashing ship. She woke up nearly freezing on an icy beech. She was still unsure how she survived. Even with the odds stacked against her. But even with her surprisingly good luck. The creatures that seemed to live here certainly new this place better than her. And right now. She was easy pickings./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"As she trudged through the snow and fought threw the winds. She felt once again like she was being watched. Stalked. Tracked. She noticed a frightening occurrence in this wasteland. Everything ate meat. Everything was a carnivore. She could be the only herbivore for many miles. While she could eat meat (and the occasional craving for blood). She had to have it served to her on a plate, let alone the fact that she had long adapted to a pony's diet. She forgot about hunting. She would die trying. She found remains and corpses. She lived off those pitiful half frozen bodies. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"The bat pony felt the cold bite away at her, trying to claim her body and make it its next victim. She felt the watching of something once again. She turned around, she looked left and right but there was nothing there. She continued walking, into an oddly flat area./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"Usually by now, her talent in navigating by the stars would have led her south, and out of this hell. But the thick clouds and speeding wings blocked the stars out. It left her stranded. It was times like this she wished her compass cutie mark could actually act like one, but alas it was just a marking on the skin. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She felt the snow unnaturally shift from beneath her hooves. The mare stared hard at the snowy ground. She saw nothing and assumed it was her tired mind playing tricks on herself. She continued walking. The snow kept shifting. Was it her mind? It felt to real under her hooves. She ignored it, as in the distance she had just spotted a hole in a mountain wall. A cave to avoid the wind./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"The bat pony quickened her pace, into a weird half trot half canter. The wind staggering her legs. She kept going. Her legs were numb to the cold, but she kept going. Shelter is what she so desperately wanted. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"The snow suddenly flew into the air behind her, chunks of permafrost came up with it. She turned her head around. A giant worm like creature had launched out the ground. A speared glowing hot head and a row of sharp teeth. Her scream couldn't be heard over the wind and she kept running. The worm monster lunged at her spear first. She just avoided it as it pierced itself back into the ground. She pushed harder through the wind that was going against her. The creature submerged under the ground again. She would think it was gone if she didn't see the ground shifting in front of her. It launched out of the ground in front of her. She halted for a second before quickly running around it. It twisted and dove straight down at her. Its red-hot head grazed passed her hind leg. It left a scorched mark in the grey fur. Despite her injury she raced towards the cave. It was somewhat above ground. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"The chaotic wind suddenly shifted to move with her. The creature was in hot pursuit. The cave was so close. She spread her wings and they caught the wind like a sail. She was launched towards the cave. She folded in her wings as she landed in the entrance of the cave. There was a loud crunch as the creature slammed into the mountain. It let out a screech that was still deafening over the wind. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She watched nervously from the cave as it looked around in a state of confusion. It slowly dug back into the snow, it had forgotten its pursuit. The bat bony collapsed back into the cave. She examined her injured leg. It wasn't too deep. Just a burn. It should be fine. Hopefully. Any dirt or bacteria that gets in it will be hindered by the cold. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She relaxed her aching muscles. Enjoying the odd moment of peace. She had learnt some things over her time her. One being the wind is faster the higher up you go. Consequently it is also colder. She remembered learning that nights can last up to two months here. So she aims to be out by then. She can now add that hungry creatures can find and hunt you if you are in flat lands./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She stared up into the sky. Trying to seek the comfort of the stars. She was so tired, but she didn't want to sleep. She didn't trust her body to go to sleep and wake up. She felt like it would shut down and never turn on again. But she would have to give in eventually. And now it may be the time. The chase had made her adrenaline go, and it only enhanced just how tired she actually was when it vanished. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"Just as she was about to curl into her wings, she saw some of the clouds part. In it, she could see the faint glow of stars. She recognised a constellation. It was one that pointed East. She believed she crashed in the West. The starts pointed to her left. That meant north was behind her. South was in front of her. So if she headed forwards she should eventually leave the North. This new information gave her some hope. It helped her sleep. And she did. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She woke up in what she assumed was the morning or the next day. They scenery hadn't changed much in terms of lightness. She had curled up in her wings and it had worked effectively like a warm room. she unfurled and stretched out. She remembered she needed to go forward from her position. Which based of the stars should take her South. She set of to not waste any time. The wind was somewhat calmer today. She stretched her wings. Remembering how to move them. She took of into the cool air./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"It was now she was thankful for being a bat pony. Off course the pegasi could probably dart through these wings, but a bats ponies wings were actually more effective. The sheer amount of joints let her fine tune her wings movement in the wind, so any slight change the wind made to throw her off she could counteract./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She heard her large wings beat in the wind. The bright pink and gold membrane stood out from below. She heard her wings beat again. But she heard an echo of them. maybe it was the wind. But with yesterday's encounter, her brain was already going to the worst-case scenarios. She heard her wing beat, then a another, but it sounder much louder./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She stopped and hovered in the air. She looked around but kept her body facing south. She saw a shape in the distance. A giant shape. It circled a mountain in the distance. It had the same structured wings as her. It had a long tail and neck and a bulky head. Her brain spun as she remembered looking at fantasy art to help her write her books. Drawings of monsters. Her brain slowly put the pieces together./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"Was that a…Frozen Wyvern? Surly she was seeing things there were made up. Weren't they?/span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"Within her confused staring she hadn't noticed it slowly making its way over to her. She panicked as she realised and darted down into a cliff side. It glided over her. It landed on a cliff side a little while away./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"The snow started to slip from beneath her hooves. She tried not to panic but the snow put her off balance and by instinct her wings flapped. They knocked down a large chunk of snow that tumbled down the cliff. The wyvern looked over for a brief moment. Before turning back to whatever it was doing. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She started to edge along the cliff. Trying to find a place to walk. She got a good look at it. In fiction and art it seemed almost completely white. But in reality, its small horns that lined its body were an icy blue. It had a blocky face. A crown of horns which lined the back of its head and jaw. On its chest was a horn structure that appeared similar to ribs. Under it, it was pure black. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She continued to edge around the side of the cliff. She stretched her hoof onto a ledge that flattened out into a form of path. She stretched her other legs over onto it. She quickly trotted off to try and get out of view. She continued trotting across the side of the cliff. The cliff slowly turned as her mind began to settle as she believed she was getting out of potential view./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She heard crunches in a short distance behind her. Loud crunches of snow being crushed by something large. She took a glimpse behind her./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"The wyvern was walking the cliff ledge towards her. It had four black eyes. They all pointed at her. It had spotted her. It was walking closer to her. It covered seconds of her trot in one step. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She panicked as she started to gallop away. She new it was a bad idea as it would only give chase faster, but her fight or flight had kicked in and her brain picked flight. She heard a large flap of wings as the ground below her shook as it landed above her. She sprinted as hard as she could through the snow. She didn't think to fly but she had a feeling it could fly way faster than her. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She made distance between her and it as it trudged through the snow towards her. She pushed her legs as fast as she could. The was a odd humming behind her. She looked back. It was still following but it had black gas seeping out of its mouth. The wyvern's black chest was glowing a green and purple aura. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She felt the air change as it was charged with magic. The humming shifted into crackling. She hoped of the ledge onto one below, just as a blast of dark magic raged over her. She gasped as the blast sped away into the distance. She heard the humming again. She charged forward as it followed. It prepared another blast./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She slid in the snow as she was faced with a cliff. She didn't have time to panic as she hopped over the edge and spread her wings. She flew down towards the ground. She spotted a large icy lake in the distance. Flat land wouldn't help her here but her decisions were already made. The wyvern followed her down as she made her way towards the lake. The was a large glacier on the other side that seemed to have many caves in it./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"Another blast raged past her, nearly clipping her wing. She galloped along the side of the frozen lake. The last thing she wanted was to slip on the ice. She looked behind her to see the wyvern slowly closing the distance. She panicked and pushed herself further. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"Just as she sweared she could feel its breath on her spine, she fell into a hole near the side of the lake. She tumbled down as she heard the confused growls of the wyvern. Every part of her body was twisted and bruised as she tumbled down what seemed to be a staircase. She hit a flat surface as she rolled before stopping on her front. /span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"She wearily lifted her head. It had been knocked a couple times. She looked at her surroundings. Large walls of ice. Was she under the lake? Between the walls and the stone she was on, there was water. It was freezing cold put it was still somehow liquid. She sat up. She appeared to be on a walkway. But it also seemed to be made of steppingstones. In the centre of the room, she saw a large platform in the water. It had six heavy chains leading to the centre of it. They were connected to a dark grey mass. However on closer inspection, it was a pony. The chains were connected to their ankles, around the neck and at the base of a horn./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"They lifted their head to look at her. The chains clanked on the floor as they were lifted by the unicorn's head. A pair of red eyes. While they did seem a little frightening, she couldn't help but feel a little bit of hope. Afterall, she had just found some pony else. Maybe they could help get her out of here./span/p
p class="MsoNormal"span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 103%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"Perhaps the odds weren't stacked against her./span/p
