GG: Hello everyone, welcome to the epic we have been working on since we worked on our last joint venture together! We had so much fun, we decided to do it again. And boy, did this one grow into a doozy!
Welcome to part 1 of our series for Prompto and Noctis! Because we have so much written for this, we are planning on posting every Wednesday and Sunday, as our schedules permit, and at least once a week! Please joint us on our epic love story!
Prompto sat by the window, staring off at the skies before him. It was still early in the school day, just before first class, but Noctis had yet to show up. He knew that he was already running late, based on the text that he received, but it still sucked to wait. He could only hope Noctis would make it in time so they could chat before class started.
Noctis was trying his hardest to make it on time. He knew he was late and he hated running late on school days now, because it meant he lost time talking to Prompto. Still, the gala invitation still rattled in his head like a swarm of killer bees, making it harder to sleep, so making it harder to wake up. Ignis refused to let him sleep in, for he wanted to make sure that he could get to school on time. His advisor had made sure to watch with his usual eagle eye'd nature when he left the car to ensure proper decorum.
Not one to be outsmarted, he maintained a quick walk until safely behind school doors. Then, he dashed through the hallways to their first class, shouting quick apologies to anyone he ran into on the way. "Prom!" he said breathlessly as he quickly draped an arm around him.
"Ah!" Prompto shouted, suddenly started by Noctis showing up. "Duuuude! Don't scare me like that!"
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you. I didn't want to miss our morning chat," he explained while moving his arm so he could sit next to Prompto.
"Yeah! I was waiting, man! What gives? You're usually never late."
"Oh, I guess I didn't sleep well last night, so I didn't want to get up," Noctis replied with a shrug.
"What? You didn't sleep well?" Prompto snorted. "That's unheard of!"
He gave a snort of laughter and pushed his shoulder gently. "You think you're so funny."
"Well I am!" Prompto declared. He placed a hand on his chest dramatically. "I am the funniest guy on Eos!"
The smile grew on his face for a moment. "I guess you are pretty funny. Anything interesting happen this morning while I was gone?"
"Nah, nothing much. Just the usual boring school morning. You're what makes it interesting," Prompto said as he nudged Noctis.
Noctis tried to ignore the flutter in his chest at that. "Is that so? And here I thought that was you."
Prompto chuckled, "Nah, I'm not very interesting. I'm just your regular old pleb."
"Pleb, please. You're way more than a pleb. Oh! speaking of, I have something for you," Noctis said as he dug around in his bag to pull out a thick envelope to hand over.
"Huh? What's this?" Prompto asked as he took the envelope. "It's not my birthday... so what's..."
Prompto's eyes widened as he stared down at the letter after opening it.
"What? But this... this is..."
"An invitation to a charity gala. You are not seeing things," Noctis replied with a serious nod. "Come on, please, come with me, I need you to make it less dull."
Prompto still stared, almost hesitant at the invitation, but then he grinned at Noctis. "Ah of course! You need the funniest guy on all of Eos to save you from the dreaded gala of boredom!"
Noctis covered his mouth to try and keep from laughing too much, even if he was unsuccessful in his endeavour. "Or maybe I just want my friend to join me for an evening?" he asked with choked laughter.
"Same difference!" Prompto chuckled. "But fine, I'll join you."
"Oh good! Then, will you let me help you get a good outfit for the gala? Cause, I want you to feel right in place."
"O-Oh yeah, I guess I gotta dress fancy for it. My old pleb clothes wouldn't work anyway."
"Or I just want my best friend to look as amazing as I know he can," Noctis replied. He was kept from adding onto that as their teacher came into the room to start their lesson for the day.
"Alright you can take me suit shopping after class, okay?"
"Of course, I got you covered. Ignis probably has already made appointments for us," Noctis whispered as they took their seats.
"What? Already?" Prompto whispered in return.
"It's Iggy, you surprised?" Noctis hissed back.
"Well when you put it like that!"
"Argentum! Caelum!" the teacher scolded. "Chattering can happen after class. Please focus on the lesson!"
Noctis shot Prompto a look before he gave a little smile and tried to focus on the lesson. He did his best to focus on class until lunch time.
At that point, he couldn't stop himself from grabbing Prompto's arm and hauling him up to the roof for their usual lunch spot.
"So," Prompto said, flopping down to the ground. "Do I have to take a crash course on proper royal people stuff? Or do I just wing it?"
"I mean, Specs would love to give you some lessons. He would try to help you out on those things," Noctis said honestly. "He wants you to be comfortable with all of this."
"Thanks, I think I would rather have Ignis give me a lesson than some old curmudgeonly dude."
"Consider it done. Come over after school, or is this a work day?" Noctis considered, as he tried to keep track of their lesson partially.
"Nah, I can take off today. It's for the prince anyway! No one can say no to you!"
He scoffed and poked Prompto in the side. "If you need to work, work. I'm just your friend, promise," he hissed
"But you need saving from the gala! That's far more important than my job!"
"Alright, alright, I'll get Specs to schedule an appointment with the suit maker. Don't worry about it!"
"Alright! Sounds like a plan," Prompto said before pulling out his lunch.
Noctis pulled out his lunch at that and scowled as he started to pull out a few bits of lettuce he could see. "Then come to my apartment after school."
"Of course! I'll follow you right after school. All the way, like usually." Prompto then scooted a bit closer to Noctis. "Got any veggies I need to steal?"
"Ugh, yes, here. He thinks he's so sneaky." He happily handed them over to Prompto for him to eat.
"Well, here I am, yet again saving your life," Prompto joked. "But this time saving your life from dreaded veggies!"
"My hero. However shall I repay you?"
"Just keep on being your wonderful self," Prompto teased with a goofy grin that lit up his entire face.
Noctis smiled at that before ducking his head. "Okay, I can do that."
The two went on to eat their lunch in their usual manner, chatting about video games and the various TV shows that they watched over the weekend. It was their usual routine and they saw no reason to try and change that or break it up.
Eventually it was time to head back in from lunch. Noctis gave Prompto a pat on the shoulder as they split up for some different classes for the afternoon. He did his best to focus on his work until the day ended, where he eagerly went to find his friend.
"Come on, we shouldn't keep Ignis waiting too long."
"Right right! Lead the way!" Prompto said as he followed after Noctis.
He smiled and led them out to where Ignis was leaning up against his car. "Hey Ignis, Prompto's coming back with us, okay?"
Ignis gave a short nod. "Of course. I can assume he has agreed to the invitation?"
"Yup I have! Suit, fancy people lessons, the whole set of stuff! I'm ready!"
"Excellent. We'll have you set up for a black tie affair in no time. I already took the liberty of adding you onto Noctis's appointment with his tailor to start getting your... suit started," Ignis said as he opened the door for both of them.
"And this is why you're the best Igs. When are we going to the tailor?" Noctis slid into the car last, since he remembered the fussing he got for sliding in public.
"Ah, as soon as we reach the Citadel."
"Wow! Sounds like you really did have this prepared way ahead of time!"
"I had high hopes you would agree to accept the invitation once Noctis requested one for you," Ignis confessed.
"O-Oh, am I that predictable?"
"No, I know how insistent Noctis is when he wants something."
"Dude! You make me sound like a puppy or something," Noctis protested while resisting the urge to blush and kick his advisor's seat.
Ignis smirked. "You're not the one who is a puppy Noct, you're the one who wants the puppy."
"Prompto is far better than a puppy."
"But puppies are waaaaaay cutier!" Prompto protested. "I would think a puppy would be way better than me!"
Noctis scoffed at that. "No way, you are better than puppies, cuter too."
Prompto pulled his school jacket around his face, trying to hide the red that was showing in his cheeks. "Nah, I'm not cute. Don't kid around with me."
He reached out to pull the jacket down to look into Prompto's eyes. "I'm not kidding. Do I look like I am?
Prompto's face continued to turn red as he stared into Noctis's eyes. He pouted at first, but the expression slowly shifted away into a small smile. "Sure. Thanks, I guess. I still think puppies are pretty cute though."
"Oh sure, they're adorable. But you're more so."
"Noooooct," Prompto whined, unable to stop the blush burning into his cheeks
"What? I'm just being honest. I thought you'd appreciate honesty."
Ignis cleared his throat. "Sometimes too much praise can be overwhelming, Noct. Don't try and break Prompto before the gala has started."
Noctis sighed and let go of the jacket to resettle into his seat. "Okay Ignis. Sorry Prom."
Prompto nodded. "It's okay. You're good. You're just being a good friend, right?"
"Of course. I always want to be a good friend for you."
"Thanks, Noct. Me too."
Eventually they reached Noctis's apartment for the first stop. Noctis went off to drop off his school bag and change into some more casual clothes. Then they were back on their way, driving closer to the citadel. Ignis pulled into the parking lot and got out of the car to open the door for Noctis. "Now we mustn't waste any more time, the tailor is waiting on you two."
Noctis felt his shoulders stiffen a little bit as he looked up at the Citadel and his face blanked. "Of course Ignis. We'll be good."
"I'll meet the two of you up there in a bit, I have some other matters to attend to first."
"Thanks Iggy!" Prompto said. "I think we got this, right Noct?"
"Of course. I spend way too much time in that place. Come on, I'll show you." He shoved his hands into his pockets and led the way through the Citadel to the royal tailors.
They walked through the citadel and Prompto had to gawk at just how big the place was. He had been there a few times before, but it never ceased to amaze him. He really knew he was lucky to have Noctis as a friend. To get to just casually walk into the citadel, that was a rare treat for most, but for him he could go any time Noctis invited him.
When they arrived in a large room with mirrors and fabric, Prompto had to figure that this was the place to get a suit. There were already a few men in the room, going over what looked like some premade suits. Then one of the men turned to look at Prompto and Noctis, giving a warm smile.
"Ah! Prince Noctis. So happy to have you here. And who is this?" the tailor asked as he looked to Prompto.
"This is Prompto Argentum, my friend. He needs an appropriate tux for a black tie affair. Ready for the charity gala coming up," Noctis explained. "I believe Ignis has already taken care of most of the other matters?"
"Oh yes, that's right! I recall what he said now. Now Mr. Argentum, let's get you a proper gala quality tux, okay?"
"Alright, sounds good," Prompto replied softly.
"I promise he doesn't bite. Just follow instructions, and you'll be good," Noctis assured him.
"So wait you aren't getting a suit done? I mean, you don't get new suits for every event or something?" Prompto asked.
"Oh, I just really need to get my suit refitted most likely. I haven't grown that much since the last time," Noctis replied with a shrug. "I don't like having that many tuxes, and I have plenty of suits."
"Would you care to go select which outfit you'd like to wear while I work with Mr. Argentum, Your Highness?" The tailor asked, selecting a few different premade jackets for Prompto to try on.
"Wow," Prompto said, looking at the jackets. "These look really really nice."
"Thank you. Do you have a preference in color?"
"Um uh I don't know? Does it matter what the color is?" Prompto couldn't help but feel nervous. He had never been questioned like this before and he had no idea what to expect.
"The color only matters for what you'd like to wear. You don't have any house colors to worry about. I think you'd look good in a dark purple though," Noctis said as he stepped out of the dressing room in a tux and messing with his cuffs.
Prompto stared at Noctis, amazing how fast he could get dressed into a suit. "Wow, you think so? Purple?"
Noctis tilted his head as he considered the idea a bit more. "Yeah, purple. You'd look good in it."
"Very well. Put these pieces on, and I'll get you fitted into them, and start making your tux properly," The tailor said as he finished selecting a mock up suit and handed it over to Prompto. "Changing room over there."
"Oh, o-okay," Prompto said, looking the suit over. Quickly he headed to the changing room and started to change into it. He was careful, trying not to bend or crinkle the nice material. When he was fully changed he stepped back outside for the others to see. "So how do I look?"
Noctis looked over at Prompto to look at him, then felt his mouth go dry. The tux wasn't even made in the right material and was too loose, but even just this was enough to show off how stunning he was.
"You look good. And you got all the pieces on right," he ended up replying with a little smile.
"Right, that's good," Prompto said as he looked down at it. "So it just needs to be fitted right?"
"Yes. Get on the platform, and I'll work on that. I'm done with you, Your Highness. Just make sure to not grow too much until the gala, please," the tailor said as he shooed the prince back to the dressing room.
"Of course. I'll do my best to control my body," Noctis replied with a bit of fond sarcasm while heading to the room.
Prompto followed to where the platform was. He still felt a little nervous, but he looked at Noctis who smiled back at Prompto felt his heart flutter. With a deep breath he stepped up to the platform and waited for the tailor and his assistants to come and begin their work.
Once he was sure Prompto was alright, then Noctis went over to the dressing room to start getting dressed into his uniform again. He went back to the fitting room to help be a calm presence to keep his friend calm while the workers quickly fitted the tux to his body. He could see how this would be just an utter temptation once everything was put together. But then again, he also had a great idea and pulled out his phone to start Moogling to complete it.
"Are you playing King's Knight without me?" Prompto asked as he watched Noctis.
Noctis gave a little huff at that but smiled. "Of course not, I would not betray our friendship like that. I'm just Moogling something."
"But what? I'm curious."
"I think right now, it's going to be a secret. I'll tell soon enough," Noctis replied while wiggling his eyebrows for a quick moment.
"Aww you're no fun. Always keeping me in suspense."
"Isn't that half the fun? Let me have this surprise."
"Fiiiiiiine!" Prompto sighed heavily.
The tailor chuckled. "Mr. Argentum, please do stay still until we are finished. We don't want any mistakes."
"Right! Sorry!"
"Oh, finally, someone else got his fussing. I'm finally not alone," Noctis laughed. "Don't worry, he's a fuss bucket, not really mad at you."
"Your Highness, if you don't stop distracting my client, I will ask you to leave."
Prompto snorted. "Aw come on, Noct. You can behave, can't you?"
Noctis held up his hands at that. "Okay, okay, I'll behave. Don't throw me out again."
Prompto smirked and then went back to being still so the tailors could finish up his suit. It took a lot less time than he expected and he was soon told to change back into his clothes.
When he was done he handed the suit over to the tailor. "So do I like, have to hold on to this or do I? Or something?"
"No, this is just a mock up. Take this off so we can make you the actual tux that will fit you. You'll come back in a little bit for the final fitting to make sure we did everything right in constructing the tuxedo for you," the tailor explained.
"Oh, okay. I think that makes sense," Prompto said before handing over the suit.
He then looked at Noctis. "So your room? Video games?"
"Definitely. Come on. I don't want to waste any time," Noctis said, relaxing as he reached out to grab Prompto's hand to pull him out of the room to his rooms.
