Every Rose Has Its Thorn

Chapter 1: Chance encounter

It was a quiet night and The Powerpuff Girls were doing their usual patrol. the girls now nearing twenty were split in their usual sectors observing the streets from above. "Buttercup how is it looking over there?" blossom asked adjusting her Bluetooth so it wouldn't fall. "all clear here. Remind me again why we still do these patrols." Buttercup said a tone of boredom creeping in. Blossom rolled her eyes "because it's our duty to keep Townsville safe, Bubbles how about you?" she said cutting Buttercup off before she complained further. "all clear Blossy" Blossom bit the urge to tell them to check again. She swallowed down her command before giving further instruction " alright girls lets head home." Blossom touched down on the pavement deciding to take the long route and doing another once over before calling it a night.

Townsville was so quiet this time of night, then again it was probably because of the curfew put on the towns people when the girls turned 16. To blossom it seemed reasonable but there were those that felt that they were invincible and that they didn't have to abide by it. Every now and then they'd catch the occasional straggler but not someone that was up to no good. She guessed that evil needed to sleep sometime. Blossom sighed her ice breath making a puff of sparkling crystals that fell to the ground, the sound giving a faint echo. She loves this small little town but sometimes she wishes she was a normal girl her age. All she'd have to worry about was college. Sure, she was going to Townsville University but she wished she could go to Harvard or Brown. She knew she couldn't go without a constant feeling of guilt from leaving everything behind just to be selfish, she didn't want to leave her sisters behind either. Blossoms mind began to wander on a life outside the heroics, maybe being a doctor so she could still help people and of having a normal relationship where she didn't have to worry about some villain using them against her. relationships were already hard to come by for her and buttercup but it didn't stop her from imagining them, in the right circumstances that might be enough to help distract her from her constant worrying. She was so deep in thought she didn't notice the young man lurking in the shadows.

The man in question was hiding in an ally hidden by the shadows of the buildings around him cast by the setting sun. The darkness like a cape familiar and cold around his person. His piercing red gaze on the lonely red headed girl walking all alone, lost in thought. He fought to keep his breathing quiet and even so she wouldn't notice him. He was taking a stroll in this once familiar city looking around to see if there was anything worth his attention to keep him occupied. He didn't expect to see anyone out this late with the curfew the city imposed on its citizens especially not this girl. He wouldn't have noticed her if it wasn't for her small exhale of breath his super hearing picked up. She was stunning but he didn't want to frighten her by making any noise and appearing like some creep. Brick had never seen such a creature as beautiful as she. Her hair, a long fiery red, cascaded down her back just above her hips, her skin looked like porcelain, milky and smooth. Her body had a soft femininity to it her soft but defined curves accentuated by a simple blouse and skirt. That skirt the perfect length showing just the perfect amount of leg without teasing. She had dancer like legs that carried her with a grace that you just knew captivated a room. His eyes continued to scan her up and down when she stopped suddenly. Shit he inwardly cursed himself, he was so lost in his thoughts of her that he actually sighed. What the fuck is wrong with me? he backed further into the shadows hoping she wouldn't be able to see him. He heard her soft steps come closer to his hiding spot. Fuck shes going to think im stalking her. He was saved however when he heard a beeping go off.

"hello?" he watched from around the corner of a building as she clicked the talk button on her Bluetooth. He listened with his super hearing "hey blossom where are you? You were supposed to be home a half hour ago!" a voice said into the small device. He noticed the girls eyes grow wide as she pulled her phone from her pocket. He did the same and had not realized how long he'd been out. And by the look on her face she couldn't either "oh my gosh I'm so sorry buttercup. I lost track of time. I just thought of maybe walking and doing a once ov-" she huffed agitated he couldn't catch what the other person said. " fine. Tell the professor I'm on my way, and sorry for worrying him." She pocketed her phone and shot off the ground leaving a familiar pink streak behind her.

Brick stood there astonished long after she had left. He couldn't believe what he just heard. blossom… her name echoing like a taunt inhis mind. that beautiful creature that made his heart stir was blossom, his mind went back to his childhood remembering the annoying chubby cheeked redhead and that ridiculous bow that used to adorn her head. How her and her sisters' heroics would foil his and his brothers plans. He couldn't wrap his head around the idea that they were one in the same. Fuck! He thought to himself as he shot off into the air his angry red streak trailing. What did he expect it made sense that it was her who else would be out so late at night? Definitely not some defenseless girl. Oh no she was far from it. She could handle herself well in a fight even then when they were just kids. He wondered what she was like now. Probably still such a know it all he told himself trying to stop these intrusive thoughts of his. She was the enemy; their sole purpose was to destroy The Powerpuff Girls so why did he want to know what she was like. It shouldn't matter, he told himself as his heart raced at the thought of getting to know all of her.

"yo bro did you get anything?" butch said not looking up from his game as soon as he heard the door open and shut. "huh, oh no nothing worth taking that we didn't already have." Brick said walking to his room. Butch just grunted a response that brick couldn't hear over the sound of explosions coming from the tv. Brick rolled his eyes, butch always played those damn games at full volume. He didn't understand why they did that sort of thing for a living. After the boys got resurrected by Him they kind of did their own thing. They still fought the girls but being the kids they were they often just stuck to stealing things they wanted. Often their little exploits got them a visit from the girls. Eventually they realized that Townsville wasn't the only city and after the boys turned 10 they decided to expand their horizons by going to other cities the girls had no domain over. After a while the whole thing got old to brick and he decided it was time the boys used their talents to make money. At the age of 13 the boys with a push from brick got hired for a huge corporation that specialized in many things. This company owned pretty much everything and with three super powered teens they became even more powerful. After a few years, the boys moved up the food chain and at the age of 17 brick was head of a department. He had his brothers as right hand men and together they made the company billions. They were trained assassins, but they were rarely in the field if they were it was for a huge operation, they never failed and brick reveled in the power. He planned on one day overseeing everything and if he and this brothers kept this streak of theirs they would. He just hoped that them being back in Townsville with the only other beings as powerful as they were would stop them from achieving this goal.
