I don't own Sky High. I believe it is owned by Disney if I recall correctly. This is a LaylaxWarren AU partially based off the fact that the two who portrayed these characters were together at the time.
It was another day of school. Layla had rose early to get ready. She went through the motions of her morning routine deciding to leave her red hair down for once. Her mind however was miles away, her thoughts all focused on Will.
Will had changed quite alot throughout the year. Ever since his super strength emerged in a fight with Warren Peace and he was transfered to the hero class, Will seemed to have less and less time for her and their friends in the Sidekick class. It made the nature loving redhead sad. After all she and Will had been best friends since first grade.
"Layla! Breakfast is ready!"
The call of her mom snapped Layla out of her thoughts. Her mom had also been a sidekick at Sky High. Her power to talk to animals hadn't been seen as a useful ability back then.
Layla finished brushing through her red tresses and went downstairs. Due to her moms ability to talk to animals, both mother and daughter were vegetarian. Apparently animals didn't like being eaten.
"Good morning Layla. Did you sleep well?" Mrs. Williams asked. Her brown eyes focused on the equally brown eyes of her daughter.
"Yeah." Layla said as she sat down to eat. She was quiet lost in thought. The sound of her name brought ger back to reality. "Sorry I didnt hear what you said."
Laylas mother looked concerned. She knew about the situation with Will. She was no stranger to the hero and sidekick classes putting up walls between friendships. "I asked if things with Will were getting any better."
Layla shook her head, frowning slightly. "No.."
A soft, barely audible sigh escaped Mrs. Williams. "Things will get better. Maybe not today or tomorrow but they will." The woman spoke with a gentle tone of voice.
"What if it doesn't?"
"Then it doesn't. Not all friendships last unfortunantly. Especially in highschool."
The air deflated from Layla. That had not been the answer she wanted to hear. she finished eating and then stood up. "I'm going to catch the bus with Zach."
"Alright. I'll see you after school."
Layla grabbed her school bag and heads to her friend and fellow sidekicks place. She and Will had been friends with Zach for a few years so she had memorized the way to his house.
"Layla! Layla!"
Layla didn't stop walking to her locker as her name was called. She didn't have to turn to know who it was. Will.
"Layla please talk to me." Will requested desperately. He couldn't understand what he had done wrong. That was Layla's problem.
Layla swiftly opened her locker. Decorating the inside of her locker door was a honey suckle plant which alluded to her power over nature unbeknownst to the school; save a few since she had refused to show her powers during power placement at the begining of the year. "What, Will?" She kept her tone short with the boy, revealing her displeasure.
"Look, I'm sorry for whatever I did."
Layla turned to look at Will. Her deep brown eyes were full of hurt. "Will you can't truly apologize when you don't even know what you're apologizing for."
Will stared at Layla speechless. He wished he knew what he'd done. He didn't realize it was he fact he barely spent time with her and their friends anymore that she was upset about.
"Think about it Will. When was the last time you spent time with me? Or with Zach Magenta and Ethan."
Will was struck completely silent. Any response he'd had died on his tongue. He knew Layla was right. He couldnt honestly remember the last time hed truly spent time with his friends in the side kick class.
Layla turned back to her locker and got the books she needed for her next round of sidekick classes. She didn't say anything else.
"Look uh..How about I make it up to you guys. We could all go see a movie after school." Will offered. He hoped she accepted this. He didn't want to lose his friends.
Layla took a moment to think it over. "Alright. We'll meet at your house at six." With that she walked away heading to her next class after shutting her locker door.
Will sighed in relief before he walked away heading to his locker as the warning bell rang throughout the school. What neither he nor Layla knew was two people overheard everything.
Will had taken a shower and dressed at around four after school. He got ready for the movie with his friends right as the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it!"
He heard his mom, Josie Stronghold, open the door and invite in whoever had been at the door. He heard his father join in the conversation as he walked downstairs. Will stopped as he saw Gwen standing there.
"Gwen?" Will questioned. He was confused. He didn't forget about a tutoring session did he?
"Hey Will." Gwen Grayson greeted him with a smile. My dads taking me out of town tomorrow. "Is there any change we can do it tonight?"
It was referring to their usual tutoring sessions. Will was inwardly relieved that he hadnt forgotten anything.
"I already made plans with Layla and my friends." Will said.
Gwen was not pleased with this at all. He was a hero now, not a sidekick! The smile she had plastered to her face dropped but she didn't dare try to manipulate Will with Josie and Steve there. She knew better. While Will didn't see her careful manipulation Josie and Steve might if she wasn't careful. "Okay. Another time then."
The Technopath stayed for around ten minutes more before leaving. Josie went to start dinner while Will and Steve went down to their homes secret sanctum.
The first person to arrive at the Stronghold residence was Layla. The redhead knocked on the door and it eas opened by Josie.
"Hi Mrs. Stronghold."
"Layla! It's good to see you." Josie smiled and stepped to the side letting Layla in.
"It's good to see you too." Layla said walking into the house.
"I'll go get Will."
Josie walked into the room that housed the entrance to the secret sanctum. Layla was forbidden entrance as she was not a Stronghold. It was called the Secret Sanctum for a reason. The flight powered hero placed her hand on the scanner and the wall opened. Behind the wall was a pair of firemen poles. She slid down her pole.
Steve and Will were playing a game of pool. Both glance up at her footsteps.
"Will Layla's here."
"Okay mom."
Will left the sanctum. Steve and Josie share a look. Neither were blind to the fact that Layla and Wills had suffered after his powers emerged.
Layla and Will hung out until their friends got to the Stronghold residence. All too soon Josie had driven the group to the movies where they all had a good time.
