So… Here we are. You know why you're here. I saw the end of Darling in the Franxx and to be honest, the only part I liked was that Mitsuru and Kokoro had their baby and the whole rebuilding thing. So, I decided, hey why not rewrite it better. It tends to be what I do anyway so why not give this a shot. Like my Re:Zero story, this will be a one chapter thing unless people want it to continue. Without further ado, here is what I think should have happened starting after Zero Two and Hiro destroyed the VIRM homeworld.

Die to Live

The war was over. 5 years and it was finally over. Zero Two and Hiro had seen to that. Together they floated aimlessly in the hull of Strelizia unconscious and unaware of where they were heading. They drifted for many days, neither waking during that span.

Somehow, during all the chaos, Zero Two's body had been recreated in the hull just like the one that had disintegrated on Earth. She had her pale white skin, her long lovely pink hair, her eyes remained their ocean bluish green, and her two little red horns stayed atop her head.

Hiro on the other hand had reverted his traits back to human. His two blue horns had retracted back into his head and his eyes went back to their dark blue color of before. The wires that once connected the two had vanished. Now, there was just a boy and a girl sitting in pistil and stamen position in the Franxx they piloted.

A bump from the outside shook Zero Two awake. She fell off of the stand where she was connected and hit the floor. Slowly, her eyes opened and took in the view around her. All around her she could see the stars and asteroids and… ships? She quickly realized where they were. The great red planted of Mars helped that. They were heading home.

Her glance then turned to her Darling that sat motionless in his chair. His eyes shut and his body slumped to one side. She weakly sat on her knees and pulled her way to him.

"Darling, Darling wake up." She shook him a little bit and he stirred. "Darling wake up!"

Hiro opened his eyes and found the one he loved more than life staring at him with worry and relief. "Hey Zero Two."

"Darling!" She jumped on him and cried. "I thought that you weren't… weren't." She sobbed as he stroked her back and hair.

"I'm okay. I'm okay. We're okay." His eyes then left her and focused on the outside cameras that lit up the cockpit. "Is that…?"

Zero Two looked up to face him. "We're almost home."

"How long…?" He looked over at the console on his right and read the date. It had only been about 6 days since they had destroyed the VIRM. "It's been Earth 6 days. How are we here?"

Unknown to the two, the Klaxosaur warships opened the warp gate and helped them through it. It was a final thank you for the help in destroying an ancient enemy. They were currently waiting in Earth's orbit to pull the heroes back in.

"I don't know, Darling. But we're going home." She nuzzled her head back into his chest.

"Okay, we've got enough fuel in the reserves for about a 45 minute push. That should bring us close enough that we can get home. Or at least see it better." Hiro pressed a few buttons on his armrest and activated the boosters. Since Zero Two showed no signs of letting him go anytime soon, he worked it all remotely.

The large Franxx slowly came to life and rocketed forward to their home, to their friends, to their family.

On Earth

Ichigo was sitting in her room. She was reading Zero Two's picture book again when a small flash indicator warned her of an approaching object from space. Quickly, she called Hachi and Nana.

"Nana, something is coming from space. My indicator says it's coming this way." Ichigo was running as she talked.

"Yes, it would appear that he Klaxosaurs have returned from battle. Wait… they're pulling something else with them." Hachi came over the com.

'What is that?' She looked up and saw the blue ships were towing in a gold piece of metal. Before anything else, she grabbed a special glass that Goro had made her. It would allow her to see the stars closer. The glass tubed extended and brought into sight something that she prayed that she would see again. Ichigo sprinted out of her room as fast as she could to find her friends.

Miku and Zorome were in their room, bickering as always. Recently, the two had grown a lot closer until, one day, Zorome pronounced his love for Miku. The first thing she did was hug him saying, 'I've been waiting for that for 5 years.' They were now married and living together, although the still fought like children. A knock came from their door that disrupted the argument.

"You go get it." Miku crossed her arms.

"You go get it." Zorome retorted.

Ichigo heard them about to argue again. "Oh for the love of…" She opened the door and grabbed them. "Come on you two. They're home."

Next, they went to find probably the happiest couple in their new home.

Mitsuru and Kokoro were playing with Ai in the floor of their home when Ichigo came. They, unlike Miku and Zorome, opened the door when she knocked.

"Hello Ichigo. What's the matter? You look out of breath." Kokoro asked when she opened the door.

"It's them, they've come home." And like that, she was off again. Both Kokoro and Mitsuru quickly gathered somethings, and Ai, and were off.

The next place she went was the hospital. Ikuno's health had deteriorated ever since her accelerated growth reactivated and went into overdrive. She now stayed in her hospital room. Ikuno always had Naomi next to her though. Those two were inseparable, much like Hiro and Zero Two.

Naomi and Ikuno were talking about another project idea when a knock came. "Come in." Naomi called out.

"Ikuno, Naomi, they're back." Ichigo started.

Ikuno instantly told Naomi to get her wheelchair so she could leave the room.

Ichigo now only had one more stop to make. Goro was with Futoshi at his startup project. He was building a bakery.

Futoshi had decided that, since he loved food, he was going to make a business out of it to help his community. Now, he was just trying to get the chosen place all cleaned up. He was working with Goro when Ichigo came running in.

Goro was the first to stop and slow her down. "Woah, Ichigo. What's the rush?"

She looked up at her partner and now boyfriend with tears in her eyes. "Hiro… Zero Two… come home."
