Set sometime after Lucifer season 4 (disregarding season 5) and during Supernatural season 2, episode 18: Hollywood Babylon. Dean maybe a little OOC for plot reasons.

Lucifer hummed to himself as he looked around the set of Hell Hazers II: The Reckoning. Not a drop of reality in it but he still found it amusing. Demons having super-hearing to hear summonings, ha. It was much more intricate and complex than that, but amusing nonetheless. Even more amusing now that it was a murder scene.

Chloe was next to him questioning two more PAs for what they knew about the death of Brad Redding and Jay Wiley. In the devil's opinion, the pair of PAs wore more plaid than what should be acceptable and they seemed in enough hurry to get away for them to be suspicious.

"Let's start with names," Chloe began, looking expectantly between the two PAs. "I heard you calling each other Sam and Dean?"

The shorter man gave his partner a look before nodding with a charming smile, "Yeah. I'm Dean, this is my brother Sam."

"Last names?"

"Smith."

Lucifer cut in at that, "But we all know that's not your real name, is it? Everyone in LA is fake so, come on. What's your real last name, hmm?"

Lucifer's eyes met this Dean character's and that charming smile faded slightly before returning and he replied, "Winchester. Dean and Sam Winchester."

Neither the devil nor the detective missed the 'what the hell' look Sam threw his brother.

"Winchester," Lucifer mused. "Now, I swear I've heard that name before… Where ever did I hear it from?"

"Ignore him," Chloe rolled her eyes, refocusing her attention on questioning the pair. "When were you two hired?"

"We were brought in before Redding's death," Sam said, "Just after the death of the stage hand."

"The faked death," Lucifer interjected.

"Yeah the uh... the faked death."

"It's our first gig," Dean said, gesturing to himself and Sam in explanation. "A lot to take in, we're still learning the ropes. But the scene, it's great. And the food—"

"Right, I've had enough of your pathetic rambling," Lucifer cut off the man, waving a dismissive hand.

"Lucifer."

The devil ignored his partner's scold and instead focused on the taller man of the pair. "Tell me, Sammy, what is it you want more than anything, hmm? Fame, money, a lost love?"

"I…" Sam's expression became slightly dazed as his eyes met Lucifer's. "I want to be happy."

Lucifer and Chloe both frowned in confusion and slight pity at the man's answer. Happiness is what this man wanted more than anything else? Not fame or riches or love, but happiness? Lucifer supposed he could sympathize with that and so did Chloe. Happiness in life is what both devil and detective sought after.

Dean's eyes narrowed as he realized the strange, richly-dressed man in front of him had just pulled some sort of mind trick on his brother. "The hell did you do?!"

Sam blinked at his brother's shout and shook his head but he felt fine otherwise. Startled at what he'd said but not at all dizzy. He was wary though: this stranger could not be human to have done whatever just happened to him. Despite this, Sam placed a hand on Dean's shoulder in reassurance.

Lucifer smiled in amusement at Dean's outburst, "Oh, protective are we? Are you sure you're brothers and not something more?"

"Lucifer!" Chloe elbowed her partner in the ribs with a scowl before returning her focus to the brothers, "I'm sorry about him."

"No problem," Dean replied, eyeing Lucifer warily, "But we're done here. Come on, Sammy."

Chloe watched as the shorter man dragged his brother away, throwing a suspicious look back over his shoulder. Lucifer frowned as he watched them walk away.

"Is it just me or do they seem like they're hiding something?" Chloe asked, turning to her partner.

"Not at all," Lucifer replied. "I'm certain I've heard the name Winchester before though…"

Chloe frowned, "Important kind of before or you did them a favour?"

"Maybe someone close to them," Lucifer said, "I remember every favour I've ever given and I don't remember granting one to them. Now that you mention it though, Detective, I remember their faces…"

"Well," Chloe sighed, "Let's get back to the precinct, see if there are any new leads and we can do a background check on those two."

Lucifer smiled, "Excellent idea."

"Lucifer?"

"Detective."

"Look." Lucifer leaned over at that, looking at the woman's computer screen. "Those two PAs we talked to. Dean Winchester is wanted for mail fruad, credit card fraud, grave desecration, armed robbery, kidnapping and three counts of first-degree murder. His brother Sam is a suspected accomplice. But an officer in Baltimore and a witness in an armed bank robbery in Milwaukee both swear these two saved their lives."

"That's… Hang on, that's it." A smile slowly spread on Lucifer's lips as he memory sparked. "Yes, I know where I've heard of Dean and Sam. From their father!"

Chloe raised a brow at that. "Their father?"

"Yes." Lucifer nodded happily. "He's in hell, I've had some long, interesting conversations with him down there. His two sons are part of his hell loop, that's where I've seen them before."

"This is when you returned to keep the demons in line?"

Lucifer nodded again. "John Winchester, he was a hunter… And he raised his sons to be the same. I know why our case is so strange, Detective!"

Chloe tilted her head. "I assume this has to do with this hunter? What do they hunt?"

"Supernatural beings," Lucifer replied. "Ghosts, shapeshifters, all sorts of murderous things."

"Wait, people actually go looking for those things?" Chloe's eyes widened. "You told me they were dangerous and hard to kill." Lucifer nodded, standing up and heading for the stairs. Chloe quickly shut down her computer before hurrying after her partner. "Lucifer! All the charges against them, does that have to do with their… job?"

Lucifer got into the passenger side of Chloe's car, Chloe getting into the driver's side. Knowing her partner meant to return to the scene of the crime and find those brothers, the detective started driving.

"Of course it does," Lucifer said. "Not every vengeful spirit goes peacefully, sometimes witnesses happen and they can't learn the truth left, right and center. Think of how badly you reacted to learning of the supernatural; there'd be terror all across the world."

Chloe nodded, "Alright, that makes sense. So the Winchesters are hunting the thing that killed our victims?"

"Most likely. Maybe an angry ghost or something or other. Either way, these two have good intentions. They're like vigilantes. Skilled, dangerous and possibly arrogant vigilantes."

"But… But not dangerous to you, right?"

Lucifer hummed. "Well that depends. Archangel blades will send me to hell—possibly heaven if I were ever allowed back—and trap me there for a good few centuries so the human hunters think I'm dead… Last I talked to old Johnny though, he hadn't introduced his boys to angels. Half-demons they know, but not angels."

"Half-demons?" Chloe frowned. "That's the chaotic smoke without vessels, right? You said they like interfering with humanity while full-blooded demons like Maze prefer torturing souls in hell?"

"Indeed. It's been a while since I've encountered any other supernatural being… This'll be fun."

"For you, maybe," Chloe said. "I'm trying not to freak out over here."

Lucifer gave her one of his charming yet genuine smiles. "Not to worry, Detective, your devil-shield will be by your side the whole time."

"So remind me what we're walking into here?"

"Lucifer Morningstar, if that's even his real name, runs the club downstairs—"

"Fine as hell place. You see the dancers down there?"

Sam sighed, rolling his eyes, "No records of the guy anywhere before nine or so years ago. He just popped up. He's known for the club, granting favours and working as a civilian consultant with the LAPD. His partner Chloe Decker, she's one-hundred-percent human. Daughter of the actress Penelope Decker and the deceased LAPD officer John Decker."

"Oh, that's where I've seen her before," Dean grinned widely. "The one and only Hot Tub Highschool."

"Dude, seriously?"

"Come on, man. Hot Tub Highschool. One of the best movies I've ever seen."

The elevator chose that moment to open and both hunters raised their guns. Dean let out a whistle as the pair stepped out into the penthouse. The lights are dimmed, the amber light at the bar the only source of light. The hunters walked further from the elevator, cautious and on-guard.

"Spiffy place," Dean said. "Man, I'd kill for a wall of booze like this."

"Well by all means, help yourself." The Winchesters both spun around, guns raised. Lucifer was walking inside from the balcony, hands raised as he continued, "I don't imagine you hunters get much of the high-end stuff, but you're in the City of Angels, might as well indulge a little."

Lucifer walked past the pair to the bar, taking out three glasses and grabbing one of the bottles. He poured a generous amount in all three before placing two on the glass table nearby and stepping back with his own.

When neither hunter went to take a glass, the devil rolled his eyes, "Well go on. It's not going to drink itself. Daddy tells me you prefer beer but some fine bourbon won't hurt, hmm?"

"We didn't come for a drink," Sam said, gun still aimed at the devil.

"Of course not," Lucifer returned, taking a sip of his own drink. "You came because you think I'm behind the deaths of those poor old chaps on the Hell Hazers set. I can tell you I don't make a habit of harming humans, I prefer to let your little justice system punish them."

"Who are you?" Dean growled, even more suspicious of this stranger who knew more than he should about them.

Lucifer gave one of his signature smirks. "Lucifer Morningstar, retired devil, current civilian consultant with the LAPD. You are Sam and Dean Winchester, raised as hunters by Daddy Dearest after Mummy burned in the ceiling when you were kids. Of course, that's what Johnny told me. Said that's something that would get you two to believe me."

"Our dad's dead," Sam said angrily.

Who was this stranger to bring up his dad and his mom's death? How did he know the supposed devil wasn't the cause of it?

"And in hell," Lucifer continued, "Which I rule. He holds some brilliant conversations. After he gets over the accusations and yelling, of course. What else did he say… Ah, Sammy here nearly got his essence eating by a shtriga when you two were kids. John said he'd never told anyone the nitty-gritty details of that little incident."

Dean growled, the mention of the memory infuriating him. "Why shouldn't we just kill you right here and now?"

"You can't. But either way, you're meant to hunt evil. I'm not evil, I punish evil, as you'll find a number of people will support. Besides, we want the same thing here, don't we? Catching the killer."

"We can do this without you and your actress-turned-detective."

A grin spread on Lucifer's lips. "You've seen Hot Tub Highschool?"

"Lucifer, I thought I told you to never mention that again."

Lucifer looked up to where Chloe had been hiding and watching from the second floor of the library along the wall. "Oh, come on, Detective. I was having fun, you know."

"We didn't do this for fun, Lucifer."

Chloe walked down the steps, her own gun in her hands. Sam looked from her to Lucifer unsure of where to point his gun now. Chloe was human, she wouldn't be as much of an issue as Lucifer, but she was still on issue… He swallowed and decided to aim at her leg, not fatal but enough to get her out of the way if it came to it.

"How'd you know we'd come here?" Dean asked, his gun still pointed to Lucifer.

"You weren't on set earlier," Chloe replied slowly. "We figured you'd decide to come after Lucifer."

"And how'd you know what we do?" Sam continued. "You're a detective, a background check on us probably brought up a lot of criminal charges."

"It did," Chloe agreed. "But Lucifer recognized you from your dad's hell loop. I know about the supernatural. I never thought there would be people stupid enough to purposely go after it though."

"Woah, easy Sweetheart," Dean said, slowly lowering his gun. Sam did the same, following his brother's lead. If there wasn't a whole army of officers here to arrest him and Sam, then this detective mustn't have said anything, right? "We're saving lives. You're welcome."

Chloe let out a small huff of amusement at the man's words but seeing his action, she lowered her gun as well. "Well, this case is mine so like it or not, we're with you."

"And what makes you think we'd agree to that?" Dean asked, raising a brow and finally grabbing the glass Lucifer had poured earlier. He took a long sip, a small groan passing his lips, "Oh man, that's good."

"Well for starters," Lucifer said, "You're back to square one in your investigation, aren't you. And think of what you could get done with the devil on your side. Quicker completion and more time to enjoy the city's finer offerings. On me, since I like your father."

"You talk like you know him," Sam said warily.

"Still haven't gotten it?" Lucifer huffed at that. "I don't lie, Sammy—"

"Don't call me that."

"I met your dad in hell," Lucifer continued as if Sam hadn't spoken. "Took him some time to warm up to me but he did after a few centuries or so."

"Centuries?" Sam repeated. "He hasn't even been dead a year."

"Time moves differently in hell," Chloe explained, walking over to stand next to Lucifer. "A couple months is thousands of years down there."

Lucifer smiled, "See, you're getting it, Detective. Now, are we going to hunt a murderous spirit or not?"

Dean glanced at his brother before downing the rest of his drink and slamming the cup down on the bar. "Fine. Only if more of these babies are involved though. And free access to that fine-ass club downstairs."

Lucifer hummed. "Allow me to adjust your wardrobes beforehand and you have a deal. Lux isn't some dingy bar, you know."

Dean considered this for a long moment, glancing at Sam before shrugging. "Well then I've just made a deal with the devil."

"That you have."

As Dean shook Lucifer's hand, he tightened his grip and hissed, "You betray us or try to kill us, I'll personally find a way to send your ass down to hell."

"I never go back on a promise or deal," Lucifer replied with an offended scoff. "I don't lie."

"Sure. Now let's get a move on."

•••

"I think he's dead, no need to bloody your hands any further."

The three ghosts looked up at that. Lucifer smiled as the ghost of the electrician Billy Beard stepped closer to him.

"Wait, you can see them?" Sam asked.

Lucifer looked back at him. "Of course I can see them."

"Why didn't you say anything when we were being chased in there?" Dean said in annoyance, gesturing back towards the stage door.

"You never asked."

Chloe rolled her eyes at that. "That's something you just share for the benefit of others, Lucifer."

"Wait, why can he see them?" Marty Flagg asked in confusion.

"Because he's a little screwed in the head," Dean supplied.

"I most certainly am not," Lucifer countered in offense. "You're the one who willingly goes after these things."

"He's got us there," Sam muttered.

Dean scowled, "Dude, whose side are you on?"

Lucifer smirked triumphantly before turning back to the ghost. "You can go back to resting in peace. I doubt anyone's going to disturb you or your buddies again." Beard nodded and he and the other two ghosts disappeared. Lucifer clapped his hands together, "Well, that's case closed."

"Right and I believe you promised some whiskey and women," Dean said, "And I don't know about you but I could go for some drinks right about now."

"Of course," Lucifer replied. "After me."

And he walked off, Dean throwing a glance at Sam, Chloe and Flagg before following him. Both Sam and Chloe sighed at that.

"You'll be alright?" Chloe asked, turning to Flagg.

The man nodded. "Yeah, yeah. Thanks. I uh… I got some script writing to do, so I'm just gonna…"

Sam smiled, "Have a good night."

"Yeah, you too."

The pair watched Flagg hurry off before they shared a look and started walking after their partners down the roads of the studio.

"They get along well enough that it's kinda scary, isn't it?" Chloe asked.

Sam chuckled softly but nodded. "Yeah… I'm surprised Dean hasn't riddled Lucifer with bullets yet. Anything supernatural he hates."

"Lucifer isn't like what you normally hunt."

"No, he's not," Sam agreed. He fell silent before giving in to the desire to ask, "Lucifer said he knows our dad and that he recognized Dean and I from Dad's hell loop. Do you know what that is?"

Chloe nodded. "It's what he sees in hell. You're tortured by your own guilt down there. Lucifer told me that it's us who decide where we go after we die. If we feel guilty, we go to hell to relieve those moments. God interferes if it's guilt over minor things to bring the person to heaven or if a horrible person doesn't feel guilty, he sends them to a special wing of hell. Since they don't feel guilt, they're tortured by demons."

Sam frowned. "Wait so are Dean and I part of our dad's hell loop?"

Chloe hesitated at that before she sighed softly. "It's not my place but Lucifer implied your dad's hell loop is the way he raised you and Dean and the way he wasn't the best father."

Sam swallowed at that. The familiar burn of tears stung his eyes at the knowledge that his dad was torturing himself with the memory of how he treated his sons growing up. Yeah, Sam knew his dad could definitely have done better, and he didn't always see eye to eye with the man, but knowing where his dad was still stung.

Chloe placed a comforting hand on the hunter's arm with a gentle smile. "What do you say we head over to Lux and drink and maybe celebrate this alliance thing we have going?"

A small smile graced Sam's lips and he nodded. "Let's do it."
