In the cool, dewy dawn of Akkala, the tiny town, known as Tarrey Town, was still. All but one young lady was fast asleep; her name was Kyra. Donning her stable uniform, she quickly and quietly made her way downstairs to the kitchen. After tossing a few apples and a loaf of bread into her satchel, she refilled her water canteen and scurried over to the door out before a voice stopped her.
"Don't forget to take the right path."
Kyra sighed in annoyance and looked to the source of the voice; it was her mother, Iliza, seated in the corner, sipping tea with a book in her hand.
"Yes, mother, I know."
"Okay, then do it. Don't think I didn't see you sneaking to the opposite road the other day."
"I've told you, it's not as dangerous as people say it is and it's thirty minutes quicker to the stable."
"Hmph!" Iliza stood and sauntered over to the kitchen. "You walk through there once and now you think it's safe." She grabs another cup of tea.
"I don't think, I know."
"Hah, right… Young people nowadays think they know everything."
"Mother-" Piped up Kyra warningly.
"As your mother, it is my job to keep you safe until you leave the nest, which, to be frank, won't be for another while," She meets with a fuming Kyra at the door. "Now, shall we get you to work?" Kyra opens the door with a very displeased look across her face.
The two walk through the town, greeting early risers beginning their daily chores. Iliza follows Kyra just past the bridge outside of town where the road splits and stops her. She faces Kyra to the path right of them, directing south, and gestures to her to walk onward. Kyra rolled her eyes when she faces away-
"I saw that. Go on." Sighed Iliza. One last look, and Kyra set off for the South Akkala stable.
'This walk is gonna suck... ' Kyra thought.
Thirty minutes into her walk, Kyra stopped by the middle bridge over the Akkala falls. She knew she couldn't stop for too long, but the sounds of rushing water made her forget the pain in her feet. Not only that, but she could get a look at the so called, "dangerous" Torin Wetland. She's always seen it up close from her bedroom window until her mother had it bolted shut; for whatever reason, she may never know. Even so, there was nothing that screamed of danger; just a bunch of trees, ruins, and eccentric-looking statues of a sort. Apparently the statues were referred to as "Guardians", but after her encounter with them on her way to work, they did a poor job of, well, guarding.
"It's just a bunch of weathered rock. Oh, how dangerous! Gimme a break…" Kyra had removed her boots to give her feet a quick stretch and message. 'If only I had a horse, this journey wouldn't be so terrible," She thought as she massaged her foot. Then, she hears a rumble in the distance. 'Great, it's gonna rain… I better get going.'
Slipping her boots on, it was time to do her least favorite activity: jogging. Unfortunately for her, it didn't take long for the rain to come down, and when it rains in Akkala, it never stops. She'd just made it past the South Akkala Plains when the sprinkles turned into ginormous water droplets; she bolted through the bridge leading up north towards the stable and decided to take refuge under the first tree to her left. Despite being a decent sized tree, Kyra still managed to get drenched in rain water.
'Could this day get any worse?'
The moment she felt the rain lighten, she ran as fast as she could the rest of the way to work. There were two travelers sauntering down the path in her direction; she ran into one of them and apologized a thousand times before continuing on. They looked to one another and then back at Kyra in the distance-
"What do you think? She matches the description." one of them asked the other.
"Spot on, too. But don't forget, we've made this mistake before," replied the other as he held up Kyra's satchel. "Let's make sure she's the one." In a flash of red talismans, they disappeared.
