Nathan looked at his reflection in the mirror hanging at the jail. Elizabeth's words still played over in his mind every day for the past week. I love you. But I'm not in love with you." Nathan let out a deep sigh and ran his hand through his thick hair. "This whole time she just thought of me as Jack?" He thought to himself. "All those times spent together..." Nathan's thoughts were interrupted when the door opened.

Allie came in. Nathan still hadn't shared with Allie what had happened and he knew he needed to let her know soon before she them out together. Just the other day he saw Elizabeth and Lucas walking out of the saloon they were holding hands and Lucas leaned in closer but he couldn't watch anymore so he turned away.

"Hey Allie, what's up?" Nathan tried to put a smile on and sound enthusiastic. Allie slowly walked towards the desk. "Dad... I..." Allie didn't usually have trouble saying anything. "Is everything okay Allie?" Nathan probed, concern showing from his words and eyes looking into hers searching for answers. Allie burst in to tears and ran behind the desk and wrapped her arms around him. "Shhhh shhh what is it Allie? " Now Nathan was very concerned Allie is a strong girl and hasn't cried in front of him since she was a small child. He just held her and rubbed her back like how he used to when she would have a nightmare. It was a few minutes before stopped crying and was able to pull herself together to talk. Nathan couldn't think of what was making Allie this way all he cared about was finding out what was bothering her and helping her through it. Allie rubbed her eyes and took a deep breath. "Dad, I heard what Mrs. Thornton said to you." She looked down at her feet and was squirming now. "I... I was coming in to ask if you wanted to go fishing with me and I saw her standing there so I... I cracked the door open and heard it all." Nathan was speechless, he had never even seen or heard her that day. He didn't really know how to answer her. But he knew for sake he had to say something. But Allie beat him to it. "I just don't understand, you are smart, loyal, and you loved her like crazy how can she say that she's not in love with you?" Allie looked up into Nathan's blue eyes looking for answers. "Well Allie... I don't really understand it all either... after I told her Jack took my place at Fort Clay I didn't think she would ever talk to me again. But at Ned and Florences wedding. She told me that she doesn't blame me for Jack's death. I thought that maybe just maybe we'd be able to talk more and get closer..."

"Dad? I don't know if I can go to school for awhile and see her there. I know I said I love Hope Valley and would never want to leave but now... now it seems like it would hurt." Allie took the words that Nathan had been thinking and mulling about. There came a pound on the door and now Robert walked in. "Hi Allie!" Nathan couldn't help but notice the boys cheeks slowly blush. "Hi Robert! Still handing out the mail?" Allie answered all her attention shifted from Nathan to Robert. "Yep, trying to save up as much money as I can so I'm working as many jobs as possible. You were pretty popular today Constable Grant. You have 3 letters." Robert handed over the small stack of envelopes.

"Thank you Robert" Nathan answered hand extended to grab them " well I best be going, nice to see you Allie." Robert ran out the door. And Nathan couldn't help but smile. "You know, that boy REALLY likes you Allie." Nathan said with a playful voice. All Allie could do was roll her eyes. Nathan laughed and tore open the first envelope. He stopped laughing as he read the contents of the official document. Nathan had just received orders of a new post and has been assigned to Bragg Creek.
