A woman in her sixties walked down an over grown path. She tightened her cloak around her body and moved her hood over her eyes, blocking her face for anyone she walks past. For everyone else, this is a happy day, a cause for celebration. The day the tyrannical rule of the Emperor was ended. She wasn't everyone though, she was a woman that lost everything this day. She made her way to a monument of the Boiling Isles hero. A plaque was on the statues base, letting everyone know who she was. She placed a hand on the base and felt tears start to fall.
"I... I'm so sorry, Luz. I-I-I'm so... so sorry."
Memories of that day started to remerge.
"The portal is almost fully charged!"
"Amity, you need to get out of here!" Luz said.
"I'm not leaving you!" Amity yelled.
Luz grabbed Amity's hand and looked at her in the eyes.
"Amity... I need you to get out of here." Luz said, "I can't let the person I love get hurt."
Luz pushed her lips against Amity's and then pushed her out of the door. Luz placed a metal bar in the door handles. Amity ran at the door and tried to open it to no avail.
"Luz! Luz, no!" Amity said, pounding on the door.
Eda and Lilith came running up and saw Amity.
"What happened!?" Eda asked.
Through the door, Luz yelled.
"Eda, get Amity and leave!"
Eda and Lilith grab Amity and start going for the exit. Amity was fighting them every step of the way.
"NO! I can't leave her! Let go of me!"
Amity started to give up when she realized, Luz called her the person she loved. Amity got one last burst of energy and got out of their grips. She almost made it to the door when an explosion broke it open and sent Amity, Lilith, and Eda flying backwards. They landed hard on the ground and Amity groans. She gets up and sees the door frame and hall destroyed and/or damaged.
"Luz!"
Amity booked it towards the room and stopped when she saw the room completely destroyed and had small fires on pieces of wood. Amity took a step and felt something crunch under her foot. She looked down and saw Belos mask, half of it missing. She looked around and saw a body. She ran at it and started to breathe heavily.
"Luz?"
Luz started to groan and opened her eyes.
"A-A-Am... ity?"
Luz started to cough up blood and Amity saw how bad Luz was hurt. Almost all of her body was burned, her right hand was... gone, and the light in her eyes... was going out.
"Luz, please. Don't leave." Amity said, "I can't lose the person that I love!"
Luz smiled and put her hand on Amity's cheek.
"I'm sorry, Mi Amor."
Eda and Lilith came running in and saw Luz and Amity. Lilith kneeled down and held Amity as she started crying. She moved Amity a few feet away. Eda kneeled down and held Luz.
"K-K-Kiddo?"
"H-h-hi... Eda." Luz said, holding her stomach, "It hurts."
"I... y-y-you'll be okay. I-I-I promise." Eda said.
"Eda... don't-"
"Kid, I won't let you die!"
"Eda... thank you... for everything."
"No, you're only fourteen... you're too young." Eda said, feeling tears start to fall.
"Eda, find a way... to let... my mom know."
Eda swallowed a sob and nodded.
"I will." She wiped the tears away, "I'm... I'm going to miss you, Kid."
"T-t-tha... thank... thank you... for being in... my life." Luz said.
"No, thank you, for being in mine."
Luz's eyes started to close, for the last time.
Amity fell to her knees and started to cry. Ever since that day, everything's been different. She lost a part of herself. She was always there for others, but it was hard for her. She bottled her feelings up. She thought she could handle it, but then, as life started to go on, she watched her friends and family die. Either from natural causes or from outside interference. Eda, Lilith, Willow, Gus, Emira, Edric, hell, even Boscha and her gang are gone. She was all alone. Amity looked at the night sky and saw Bonesborough, a couple hundred yards away. They launched fireworks and Amity looked at the statue. Luz was buried directly under it.
"I'm alone Luz. No family, no friends, I have nothing." Amity let her arms out of the cloak, revealing a long knife, "I'm sorry I wasn't strong enough."
Amity held out the knife and stabbed herself in the stomach. She screamed in pain as she shoved the knife deeper. Eventually, she fell to the ground, and her vision turned black. She suddenly opened her eyes and saw her body.
"I finally did it." She said.
"Yeah, you did."
She turned around and got the fright of her after life.
"L-L-Luz?"
"Hi, Amity."
Amity flung herself at Luz and hugged her.
"I'm sorry, Luz! I'm so sorry!"
"What do you have to be sorry about?"
"I… I wasn't strong enough. I wasn't strong enough to save then and I wasn't strong enough to keep on living! I'm sorry!"
Luz held Amity's shoulders.
"Amity, you are stronger than anyone I know. You were there for everyone else, and never asked for help yourself."
It was quiet for few minutes, before Amity spoke.
"Why did you have to die?"
"So that everyone could live." Luz said.
"H-h-how did you know I would be here?"
"Amity, I've been with you for fifty years, watching you, so I would be there when you finally died." Luz held Amity's hand, which made her wrinkled hand look like it did when she was a teen, "Let me show you what I've learned."
Amity's body turned back into the body she had when she was fourteen. Luz looked at her and snapped her fingers. Amity's hair changed from green to her natural brown color. Luz grabbed Amity and smiled.
"You're going to love this." Luz said.
Luz started to float and brought Amity with her. Luz looked back and smiled.
"All of our friends are waiting."
Amity got her wrist out of Luz's grip and floated in place.
"Wait, all of our friends are here?"
"Yep! Skara, Willow, Gus, Boscha, Kat, Emira, Edric, even Lilith and Eda." Luz said, "Every time one of them died, I've guided them to-"
Luz was cut off when Amity kissed her. Amity would go with her soon, she just needed this. Just one moment where she doesn't mind being alone... especially with Luz, just to know that this was real. That she wasn't truly alone anymore.
