It was finally the day Varian had always dreamed of. Like Rapunzel, a man of science is a curious one. He wondered what was out there beyond Corona, but always had the fear of leaving his friends behind – especially Cassandra.
Quirin entered Varian's laboratory as he was packing up his backpack. "Are you sure you wanna leave everything behind?" Quirin said. "I can't lose you like I did your mother."
Varian smiled, hugging his father. "Don't worry. Ruddiger and I will be just fine," he replied.
"Please be careful," Quirin said. "And tell me if you see Ulla on your journey."
"Of course. I'm venturing out to find Mom anyway," Varian replied. "I know she's out there somewhere – waiting for me beyond the horizon!"
Quirin chuckled. "Well, you are old enough now, I suppose," he said. "I guess it's time you leave the nest."
"And I'll be careful," Varian said. "Don't worry about me, Dad."
Deep inside, Quirin worried about what would happen if his son did not return. That was the only reason that he was disappointed in Varian for being an alchemist. But Quirin sighed, hugging his son. "I love you, son," Quirin said.
"I love you too, Dad," Varian said.
At that point, he was all packed up and ready to go. "I will make you proud," he said. "I promise."
Varian stood in front of the entrance to the kingdom of Corona. He sighed, grasping onto the straps of his backpack, as he was ready to leave Corona.
