"Where did the wrackspurts go?"
Because that was all that mattered. The lack of her flying friends, that is. As surprising as being sucked inside a strange portal and spit up on the old Hogsmeade was, seeing no wrackspurts was more disconcerting.
Luna Lovegood stood up and brushed off the dust on her clothes. She needed answers. And where would be the best place to find them than her own home?
With a crack, Luna apparated out of the village, missing the fact that her clothes were ill fitting and much more larger on her or that she sounded more childish than she should.
Agapetus Lovegood blinked twice at the sight of child appearing in front of him with what suspiciously looked like apparition.
Was it accidental magic? No. The child looked old for that. In fact, she looked like she could be his son's age.
So did she really apparate? How talented!
"Excuse me, sir!" She chirped. "I believe you're out of your grave."
He was mildly insulted before he laughed out loud. Agapetus was hardly that old.
"No, young miss. I believe you apparated at the wrong place." He replied. "If it is apparition, you were doing."
The child's protuberant silver eyes looked around for a moment before she spoke up once again. "You're right. Daddy's Erumpent horn is not here. The wrackspurts really are deceiving me."
"Wrackspurts, you say?" Agapetus asked with both brows raised. "That sounds familiar."
Suddenly, an owl flew into the child's direction and deposited a letter into her palms. Agapetus knew it was from the ministry as he received the same one years ago. Her face remained in serene calm as she read the whole letter.
"That's odd." She remarked. "My apparition license seems to be invalid."
Agapetus chuckled. "Seeing that you are not yet of age, young miss. I doubt that you would receive a license."
She blinked at him for a few moments. "May I borrow a mirror?"
With a flick of his wand, Agapetus transfigured his tea cup into a decent sized mirror. The child set down her letter on the table as she accepted it, giving him an access to read it's contents.
"Dear Ms. Lovegood, the Ministry has received intelligence that at seven forty-two, you performed Apparition which is a violation of the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery. This letter serves as a first warning and failed compliance of the law will see that you will be punished accordingly. Hoping you are well, Gaius Audley."
Lovegood?
"I look like a child."
Now come to think of it, she looks a lot like his Xenophilius.
"The missing wrackspurts must be related to this."
Agapetus cleared his throat, catching the attention of the girl. "May I ask for your name, young miss?"
She returned his mirror calmly. "Luna Lovegood but the others also call me Looney Lovegood."
"I am Agapetus Lovegood. Head of the House Lovegood." He informed her, ignoring the latter part and expecting her to be surprised or shaken at the information.
But she remained impassive. "I know."
"We are relatives." He pointed out.
"You're my grandfather, yes."
Agapetus stilled before uttering out the only word in his mind.
"Interesting."
"Xeno, this is your new sister Luna."
Her dead grandfather introduced her to her young looking father with a lot of enthusiasm. With her father here, together they can solve the mystery of the missing wrackspurts faster.
That made her inexplicably happy so she greeted her father— brother?— with a wide smile.
"Luna, this is my son Xenophilius. He is a second year Ravenclaw in Hogwarts."
"Nice to meet you, Xenophilius. I believe we can achieve a lot of things together."
Her father looked at her oddly. "Wrackspurts are clouding your head."
Luna almost gasped. "What? You can see the wrackspurts?"
"You can see them too?" Xenophilius bounced in excitement. "Nobody believes me when I tell them that."
"I used to." Luna admitted. "That's why I am here. I need to know why they are hiding from me. Devious creatures, they are."
"That is indeed most unfortunate!" Her father declared. "Come and let us rectify that matter, new sister of mine. I have created a new innovative invention that allows wizardkind to see them. And you will be the first one to try it."
She did not know how but her grandfather had forged a lot of documents passing her off as his own daughter. He even went as far to deceive their own family tapestry to accept her as one. Which was not that hard since they were already closely related.
That's why her new Hogwarts letter came by later than necessary. Xenophilius- Xeno, as he insists- already received his a month ago. But due to the circumstances of her registration, she could understand.
And that was when it occurred to her that she had to go through Hogwarts again.
Hogwarts meant schooling. Which is a big detriment for her in her quest to figure out her anomaly. Why would she waste time relearning everything she already knew about?
Or not. Hogwarts' library would probably provide her information or even answers to her dilemma. Luna could only hope that the Nargles won't steal her belongings again. It would be a disadvantage to her as she currently did not possess the ability to see them.
"Are you certain that this butterbeer cork necklace would keep the Nargles away?" Xeno asked, inspecting the item in his palms.
"Of course. You told me so." In the future. But time was relative. Hermione said so.
"Oh. Alright." He acquiesced before slipping it on his neck.
She should probably put at least three corks in her necklace. But that would be a thought to ponder later. Luna had a wrackspurt to find.
