Hi guys and girls, I'm back! Well, hi to the few that actually read my stories. I'm back after a long time and (another) fandom switch. I feel like I switch fandoms every month lol.I am not very sorry to say that my previous story will not be continued because of writers block and high school, and the fact that I am not interested in the MLP fandom anymore. But I want to thank the very few people that read that story and the previous stories that I have written.I try to make my stories as good as possible, as I write only from my cell phone, as I do not own a computer or laptop. It is very hard to write stories with only a phone. But hopefully this Christmas or my birthday I can get a laptop to write with.Anyway, the new fandom that I am in is How to Train your Dragon. I showed some interest in it last year, but I didn't really get enveloped in the fandom until recently. This is currently a two shot story, but it can be turned into a complete story if you wish. As usual, anyone can adopt this story if I find that I can't write it. But hopefully with a computer, I'll be able to write quicker and more efficiently.I made a few changes the the characters in this story. First off, Hiccup is six years old. Second, Toothless is huge. Nuff said.Anyway, I'm not gonna waste any more of your time with this long ass authors note so here you go. This is A Protector and his Charge.

In the forest outside of Berk, a group of vikings were dragging a six year old Hiccup on the ground. They showed no mercy as they were beating him.

The only person among them that seemed to show remorse was Stoick, Hiccups father. He knew that what he was doing was barbaric and wrong, but on the inside, he knew he should have done it before. Not just because of his ability to tame dragons, but because of his small, almost tiny size. Every other person his age was bigger and knew how to kill a dragon. Hiccup on the other hand, not only did he have no interest in killing dragons, he looked down upon the act.

Stoick figured he got it from his mother who was taken by dragons when Hiccup was just a baby during a raid. He blamed it on her inability and refusal to kill a dragon.

Now, here was Hiccup, a six year old child, about to be executed as a traitor and a sorcerer.

Hiccup was sobbing as he was being dragged on the ground and beaten, afraid of what was going to happen to him.

They stopped when they reached a large stone. it had had claw marks and burn marks from previous uses.

They practically shoved Hiccup on the stone. One bulk and large man grabbed a metal rod with an imprint on the end, and placed the end in a fire.

Another large man held Hiccup on the stone while Stoick looked away, not wanting to watch. He knew this had to be done in order to keep his village safe and at peace, but Hiccup was still his son, even though he never had a good relationship with him like he did Valka.

Hiccup, however, never met his mother, and never bothered to ask why he didn't have one. He was too young to understand why. However, at his age, he could tame a dragon, which is a trait he inherited from his mother, and mentioned earlier, is why he is here.

The Viking took the rod out of the fire and ripped Hiccups shirt off of him. After making sure he was held down, he jabbed the metal rod into Hiccups side.

A blood curdling scream echoed through the air, loud enough to have caught the attention of a nearby creature.

The rod was left on his bare skin for five seconds, before being taken off, leaving the picture of a viking ship broken in half. The mark of a traitor.

Hiccup was sobbing in anguish as the men shoved him against the wall of a cliff.

Meanwhile, a kilometer away, an animal heard the scream that Hiccup made. It was a large, black dragon. A night fury. One of the only ones left of it's kind.

His ears perked up, and he looked into the ear, trying to tear clearer, and being the curious dragon he is, he took off toward the sound.

Stoick goes up to Sigrid, another viking and asked, "Are the arrows ready?".

He nodded and handed him a bow and multiple arrows. Stoick would be the one to kill Hiccup.

Up in the sky, the night fury was listening and looking for the source of the scream, when he heard something off. It was talking coming from the woods. Since he was a dragon and had good ears, he was easily able to hear it.

He landed some distance away from the source to scout. He saw a group of small creatures, which he knew we're humans, surrounding an even smaller human, who was cowering away from the others, in clear pain and fear. "A viking hatchling?" He asked himself.

His eyes turned into slits in anger, seeing that the bigger humans had no good intentions with the hatchling.

The Vikings surrounded the child on all sides, blocking all escape routes, with a giant stone wall behind him.

"Hiccup," Stoick started, "you are being executed for treason. You will be executed by the means of bow and arrow." He said loudly.

Hiccup cried quietly not knowing why he was being punished.

The night fury listened to what the viking was saying to the hatchling and became furious. Night furies were very intelligent and while they couldn't speak, they could understand foreign languages, such as English, so he could understand exactly what they were saying to the little one. He started quietly crawling towards the scene.

Stoick pulled the arrow back until the head hit the bow and he aimed it right at his heart. He started thinking about a moment he had with his son.

FLASHBACK

"Son," Stoick started, "One day I will leave this planet." He told the infant in his arms.

"And this," He points to the village that lay before him, "will all belong to you my son. You will lead these people to do great things."

Hiccups forest green eyes gazed up at his father, and Stoick smiled.

"You look just like your mother. She is up in the stars, gazing down upon this world. Watching us. Watching you."

Hiccup reached for the sky to try and grab a star, but obviously failed. The infant looked into his tiny hands confused.

Stoick chuckled and rose Hiccup above his head.

"Those are the stars, Hiccup. Each represents a soul of a person. And that one," he points at the brightest star in the sky, "is Valka."

He looks into the sky and tears shed from his eyes.

"I miss you my love."

END OF FLASHBACK

He stared at his son, who was crying against the cliff wall, and a tear shedded from Stoick's eye.

"It has to be done. To protect the people and peace." He thought to himself.

He prepared to release the arrow.

Behind him he heard a deep growl.

He looked at Hiccup who's face turned from fear of him, to fear of what was behind him.

Stoicks eyes grew big, and he slowly turned around.

There, standing right behind them all, was a huge, black dragon with glowing green eyes, standing above them.

"Night fury..." He said in astonishment and fear.

The other vikings started to scatter, as they were unarmed, away from the scene, while Stoick stared up into the eyes of the dragon in shock.

The dragon slowly crawled toward him, hate and anger in it's eyes.

Stoick dropped the bow and arrow, knowing full well that it wouldn't do anything to a dragon of this size and classification.

Stoick stared up at it's eyes in shock still, before the dragon roared.

Hiccup covered his ears and cried, while Stoick still stared at the dragon.

The night fury wound up it's large tail and hit the man into the forest, not caring where he went.

He was launched at high speeds and hit a tree head on, where upon impact his neck snapped, and he fell onto the ground dead.

Hiccup covered away from the gigantic dragon and sobbed, terrified.

The night fury looked at him and his eyes undilated, and his ears perked.

Hiccups looked away from the dragon that could easily swallow him whole. Terrified.

The night fury slowly walked towards the tiny boy, and with every inch he got closer, Hiccup cried harder.

The dragon felt sadness for the hatchling, and anger towards the people who threatened him, wishing he could have ripped each and every one of them apart, slowly and painfully.

Hiccup usually could communicate with dragons and tame them, but he had grew up fearing night furies, the gods of lightning and death. He laid there crying, afraid of how the dragon was going to kill him, as he could only be a snack to the dragon.

But the night fury had no intentions of doing any harm to the tiny hatchling, as he was so small and fragile.

He walked slowly toward the boy who cried after he got closer.

The dragon lowered his head down to the crying boy, who was awaiting death, and nuzzled him.

The nuzzle was big and tender, and the dragons head was larger than Hiccups whole body.

Hiccup looked in shock at the giant gently nuzzling him. Why wasn't he eating him?

The dragon continued nuzzling him until his sobs we're reduced to small cries.

He lied down on the ground in front of Hiccup thinking of a way to make him feel safe.

He figured if he could see that he had retractable teeth, that it would make Hiccup feel safer.

He opened his mouth and retracted his teeth into his gummy mouth.

Hiccup sat in astonishing and he was no longer crying though tears were still shedding.

"Y-you're t-t-toothless?" He asked softly.

The dragon nodded in response, and he licked him.

The kiss enveloped his entire body and covered him with dragon saliva, and Hiccup smiled in response, "Ew, dragon spit"

Hiccup stood up, and hugged the dragons face, "Th-Thank your for saving me, Toothless."

Toothless smiled at the nickname that Hiccup gave him and closed his eyes, enjoying the hug.

Hiccup backed up and sat back against the cliff wall, realization coming to his mind about what had happened before he met Toothless. He started to breakdown, tears streaming down his face.

Toothless cooed and brought his tail toward Hiccup and wrapped it around him. He lifted him up into his paws and cuddled him against his massive chest.

He cradled the tiny child in his paw, trying to comfort the little one, wishing that he could tell him that everything would be alright, and that he would love and cherish him for the rest of his life.

Hiccups sobs began to quiet as Toothless lightly stroked a claw down his back. He felt himself starting to grow tired within the warmth of Toothless' grasp.

Toothless looked around. "The forest is no place to sleep for a hatchling," he thought.

He spotted a cove, and decided that it was a good place to sleep.

Toothless tucked Hiccup against his chest with a paw and walked to the cove and lied down.

He made sure that Hiccup was safe in his paw and wrapped his wings around himself and Hiccup, giving extra warmth.

He looked at the child in his paw and thought to himself, "Good night, my little hatchling."

He promised that from that point on, he would do everything in his power to make Hiccup feel loved and protected.
