Prologue

Its been five years since the war since peace has prevailed and life seems to be normal again.

All the students that fought in the war have graduated and honored with the merlins award.

Hermione Granger was sitting in her two-bedroom apartment, sipping a glass of wine and reading a book when the fireplace lit up and ginny came out of it.

"Hermione! You have to see this!" the redhead was squealing with delight and jumped and sat next to Hermione.

"Wow! okay calm down Ginny, what happened"

"Harry proposed! We were at this restaurant and he proposed!"

"What! oh my god ginny that's amazing, show me the ring! I can't believe my best friend is engaged to my other best friend"

Ginny flashed the ring on her finger, a huge blue sapphire with two diamonds around it, not too flashy yet elegant looking.

"That looks so beautiful! I'm so happy for you Gin"

"After we came back home I rushed here directly to ask you the important question, Hermione Granger will you be my-"

"YES YES! I will be your maid of honor" Hermione cut her off and hugged her.

"This is so exciting, I thought you would be a bit hesitant after what happened with Ron. I'm so glad that isn't a problem"

"we broke up almost two years ago Gin, besides I would never pass up the chance of being your maid of honor, hey! let me open a bottle of champagne and celebrate"

"That would be amazing, we have so much to plan on though, we are thinking of a June wedding so it's only a month away, and I know you love organizing and planning so"

"Yes let's drink and start planning the greatest wedding of the decade"

Hermione and ginny celebrated the engagement and stayed up late deciding on decorations.

Soon the fireplace lit up again and harry came out of it.

"Hey, you two! You got me a bit worried Gin, its past midnight and you didn't return home yet"

"Harry! congrats, and sorry for keeping up your fiancee so late we got carried away planning your wedding, barely felt the time running past"

"well Mione, I probably should go home now, and you need rest too, don't you have a meeting tomorrow early"

"Yeah! well see you guys at work then, and congrats again"

Harry and Ginny told their goodbyes and headed back home, an exciting new life waiting ahead of them, together.

Wedding day-

The couple decided to have the wedding in the area outside the burrow, the same place Bill and Fleur had their wedding.

There were tents set up, the decorations rose gold flowers enchanted to glow, Jasmine flowers were laid on the aisle for the bride walk, The place smelled of roses and lavender. It looked magnificent.

Harry was waiting at the altar for his bride, looking pretty nervous and excited at the same time. His best man Ron waiting with him. The music started to play and Ginny started walking towards him, looking more gorgeous than ever. Hermione was standing beside harry in a shining red gown and a teary smile on her face. Her friend was glowing, it was all so perfect.

The ceremony went on smoothly and everyone was enjoying themselves, dancing, and eating.

Hermione was sitting at a table, drinking champagne when a voice spoke from behind her, and she knew that voice quite well.

"Oh god no, not him please" Frustration was clear on her face as a bearer of the voice sat at the seat beside her.

"Well hello there Granger, you seem to clean up well" And there he was Draco Malfoy, clad in a black tux and perfectly groomed hair, seating beside her and complimenting her perhaps.

"You don't look too bad yourself Malfoy, now could you be a dear and sit anywhere but here please, I don't want a bickering boy sitting beside me after a tiring day"

"Tsk Tsk Granger, I am merely just sitting here sipping wine and looking at the happy couple dance the night away, no need to be feisty"

"Has hell frozen over, Draco Malfoy is being civil towards me"

"Well Granger contrary to your belief I'm not the boy from Hogwarts anymore, I have outgrown the outrageous superstitions, so no need to be snarky"

Hermione was a bit shocked by his behavior. They worked at the same office. Even though Malfoy was no longer trying to make her life miserable, there was always a conflict between their departments, so the civil behavior was unseen.

Draco kept sipping his wine and looked pointedly at the couple dancing

"They seem to be so happy signing away their life permanently to each other, wonder how that feels like knowing there's no escape route in case things go south"

"Trouble at paradise Malfoy? where is your date anyways, too posh for the wedding?"

"Daphne is at a resort with some friends for the weekend couldn't seem to care enough to accompany her boyfriend to a wedding"

"Oh, didn't know the top couple that gets talked about in the Daily Prophet so much, got cracks in their relationship"

"It is all for show Granger, publicity is good for the business, besides weren't you and that Antoine boy from law enforcement a thing"

"It was not serious dating, we broke off things weeks ago"

"Wasnt good enough for the golden girl I suppose"

"He cheated" Hermione spoke softly, and it was a bit surprising for both of them to talk about their dating life as if they were friends and not a past nemesis.

"Well sorry to hear that Granger, you do deserve better than a guy like that"

"Why thank you Malfoy, and I'm sorry about Greengrass too, hope things get better for you"

"Well good to talk with you granger, and not arguing for once you are an interesting person to talk to, I'm gonna call it a night, see you around Granger"

"yea you too" Hermione gave him a small smile, and surprisingly it felt a bit better talking to Malfoy, she hasn't talked to anyone about the cheating part, everyone just knew they called it off, none knew the reason so far.

Hermione went off to find the bride and groom and say her farewell as well and headed out.

"What a weird night, Malfoy was civil, even a bit friendly, and why on earth did I tell him about Antoine cheating on me, guess I am too drunk tonight, tomorrow things would be normal again"

She didn't put much thought into it and headed off to bed. Little did she know things were not gonna get normal, instead there was a lot life had planned for her next.
