A/N: This is because I've read like 5 different stories over the last few days and the plot bunnies insisted I attempt to write something! Here is chapter 1, I have expanded on the story just a bit to give a little background on my OC. I have not given any physical descriptors (except for dark hair). I do this so that the reader can imagine themselves in the story (I can't stand stories that have y/n written in them!). I will probably expand the story some more later on in the chapters, but for now please read and review and let me know what you think!
It's amazing that you can be in the same school for four years and no one knows you exist. To walk through the same halls off your classmates since grade school only to become a nobody by senior year. That is how Angela McDowed felt as she walked through the halls of Shermer High Friday morning. She sighed as she grabbed her books from her locker, being knocked into multiple times. The sad part was, she was used to being ignored and forgotten; by students and teachers alike.
"Come on, man! Just hand it over and there won't be a problem," said one of the boys in the hallway.
"Come on Jay, Vernon is gonna come any second now!" said the girl standing next to him. "Listen sweet cheeks, hand over the lunch money and I won't have to get rough with your girl."
"Hey, why don't you buzz off," said Angela as she walked up to the four students.
"Who the hell are you? You new?" asked the girl.
"No, Tish, I've been going to school with you for years," said Angela.
"OH, Angie! I didn't recognize you. Thought you were dead," said Tish with a smirk. "Why don't you buzz off and mind your own business."
"You trying to threaten me, Platisha?" said Angela with a smirk of her own.
"What did you call me?" said Tish with barely concealed rage.
"You heard me, and unless you want the whole school to know you'll back off," said Angela.
"Fuck that!" said Tish as she jumped at Angela.
Both girls dropped their bags and started slapping and screaming at each other. This, unfortunately, was the time that Principal Vernon turned the corner. This also happened at the same time that Angela landed a solid punch to Tish's face, breaking her nose.
"OKAY! THAT'S IT! BREAK IT UP!" shouted Vernon as he got closer.
Two more teachers stepped in to pull the girls apart. Angela was still trying to reach at Tish, while she cradled her broken nose.
"Go to the Nurse's office Ms Morgan and stop bleeding all over my hallway," he said before turning to face Angela. "And as for you…." he said. He stared at the dark haired girl in front of him. He was at a loss for who she was. He knew every student in that school except for her. "You new?"
"Jesus, fuck! No I'm not new! I've been here for four fucking years!" shouted Angela as she tried to pull away from the teacher's hold.
"What the language, young lady," said Mr. Vernon. "What's your name? Who is your homeroom teacher?"
"Angela McDowed and Mrs. Anderson," she replied.
Vernon nodded his head. "My office, now!"
Angela shrugged the teacher off her shoulder as she grabbed her bag and headed to the front office. She knew that this day was not going to get any better.
"I should'a just kept my fucking mouth shut…" she mumbled as she sat down outside Mr. Vernon's office.
"Let's go," said Vernon when he finally made it back to his office.
"Kept me waiting long enough. Homeroom is almost over," muttered Angela.
"I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that," said Vernon as he dug her file out of the cabinet.
He ignored her for another five minutes while he looked through her file. Angela rolled her eyes as she slumped back in her seat.
"It amazes me that you've been here for almost four years and I don't know who you are," said Vernon, finally looking up at her. "You've been in the top twenty of your class every year but you don't stand out academically. You've had a number of run ins with other teachers for your use of language, but you've never been sent to the office. This must be your lucky day," he said with a sarcastic smirk.
"Oh yeah, totally lucky day," she replied in kind.
"You've been kept out of homeroom, and will be swapping homerooms, because you share that class with the girl you were assaulting," said Vernon.
"Assaulting?! I wasn't fucking assaulting her! WE were fighting!" shouted Angela. "She should be in here as well!"
"That is not what I'm getting from the witnesses," said Vernon. "And she is the only one that has sustained any injuries."
"What witnesses?" asked Angela.
Vernon looked down at his desk and read off a list of names. Angela rolled her eyes
"Of fucking course! That's her boyfriend and all her friends! Of course they are gonna say I assaulted her!" she shouted.
"They all say that you came out of nowhere and just started yelling at her. When she went to walk away you grabbed her, and I quote "Started wailing on her like she owed her money!" said Vernon.
"That's bullshit!" said Angela.
"It doesn't matter, aside from the fighting that you were caught doing, your language just in the last few minutes has earned you a detention," said Vernon.
"Fine," Angela sighed. "What time is it? After school? Cleaning chalkboards?"
"This Saturday, 7 a.m." he said with a smirk.
"You've got to be shittin' me!? Saturday detention?!" she yelled.
"Keep it up and it will be two," said Vernon.
"Un-fucking-believable," she muttered under her breath. "Fine, Saturday at 7 a.m."
The rest of her day passed by without any more incidents. Angela sighed as she grabbed her things and headed home. She was not looking forward to telling her parents that she had Saturday detention. She knew that was not going to go over well. As she was walking out of the school she bumped into another student. She glanced to her right to see a girl dressed in all black with a bag slung across her body. The girl gave a crazy look before she took off down the front steps. Angela shook her head as she continued down the steps.
She looked around at the students standing out front. Half of these people were people she had known her whole life. She watched as the preppy kids and the athletes grouped together to make plans for the weekend. She walked by a group of nerds and overheard their plans for the weekend: D&D and study for the physics test on Monday.
It seemed everyone had plans for this weekend, except her. Her plans consisted of avoiding her step-dad and her weirdo neighbor. She knew her step-dad was a creep, but she was pretty sure her neighbor had been spying through her bedroom window lately. She shivered as she started walking down the street. The sooner she got home the sooner she could leave.
A/N: That was the first chapter! Hope you enjoyed this little insight into Angela. The next chapter is where we meet all the other characters! Please review and let me know what you think!
