Each of these chapters will be over 1000 words long, but I will be adding them in sections of 500, so there will be either 2 or 3 parts per chapter. I will try to post as much as possible, and I will aim for daily. Thank you! PS I wrote this with my beloved friend :)
Prologue
Chakra flew through the night sky, a flash of light blue scales in the darkness. She flapped her wings, making her heart beat faster. She landed, frowning as her forbidden friend was nowhere in sight. She looked around for a little, and when she couldn't find him, she decided to risk exposing herself.
"Abner-?" She lowered her ice-cold tone, worried.
"You're here!" A voice whispered, and she could feel a warm smile.
"Of course I am!" She spoke softly, but fiercely.
A light tan and yellow dragon appeared from the shadows, smiling. He spread out his wings, inviting Chakra for a hug. She collapsed into his warm, comforting arms.
"What is that?" He said, pointing to the small, round object in her talons. He shivered slightly as he held her free talon.
She held out the beautiful, smooth, ebony black egg she was holding. "Our dragonet," She whispered, tapping the object lightly.
He held his arms out to hold the egg. "Why is it such a strange color?" He squinted at the dark egg.
"I don't know," She reached out, peering at it when it was back in her talons. "Maybe it's because me and you are from different tribes."
A crack splintered down the middle, and Chakra gasped. I'm not ready! She thought frantically with worry as her brow furrowed at the sight. But then she realized the egg had stopped cracking, and felt extremely cold on her wintery blue scales.
Abner snatched the egg, gently wrapping it in his own warmer talons.
"Sorry," She said, hanging her head with dismay. I could have killed my own dragonet! Chakra brushed the thought away.
"It's fine," He breathed on the egg, trying to warm it as a blurred puff of smoke wreathed around the perfect black egg. "I mean, it should have at least some resistance to the cold." Another crack splintered across the smooth surface, the sharp cracking sound cutting through the calm silence. He gasped, dropping the egg. Chakra hissed as she lunged for the delicate object.
She caught it, though just barely. "Careful!" She growled, wrapping her claws carefully around the cracked egg. Now making it cold doesn't seem so bad. She held back the swift comment.
"Sorry!" He raised his voice, obviously frustrated that he had dropped the egg.
Chakra whirled around, glaring at the trees to see if anyone had heard him yell. She exhaled softly when she saw no one.
"You need to correct your volume!" She hissed at the Sandwing.
"Same about your attitude," Abner glared at her, his deep black eyes shining with triumph at the swift comment he had thought of.
"CHAKRA!" She heard a dragon roar in the distance as Chakra rolled her eyes with annoyance.
Oh sister, calm down, Her brain hissed as she glared at the night sky.
"I need to go-" She handed him the egg "I don't know if I can hide him any longer," She glanced up, getting ready to take off.
"See you soon," He smiled softly as he brushed his wing with hers.
