Set in the Regular Sofia The First Universe around the end of season 4 and this is an AU.
Sofia is 11 years old, Amber and James are both 12 years old
Chapter 1
When both Miranda and Roland wanted to celebrate their forth anniversary, they realized that they didn't have anyone to watch the children while they were away, Baileywick was coming along with them, Cedric was off to visit and spend time with his parents for the next few weeks.
"Maybe we could send them a camp for the summer?" Roland suggested.
"They are all booked or we missed the deadlines for appliances." Miranda said.
"Maybe Tilly?" Roland wondered, but they both shook their heads at that.
"While Tilly loves them all dearly, she isn't always home to care for them and her husband is away for long stretch's of time as well." Miranda pointed, both the parents were discouraged by this, but then Miranda had an idea.
"What about a summer group home?"
"A summer group home? What is that, some sort of camp?" Roland asked curious.
"Well from what I remember they are like a camp, but instead of camping, you in a home with other kids and you do fun stuff while there."
Roland thought about it for a moment and then nodded.
"Let's do it, but we have to find a good one, it can't be just any group home."
"Agreed." Miranda said and so they did some research and after a while they found the perfect place for their kids to stay the summer.
"Miss. Malum Summer home for Kids"
As they looked at the pictures and information the place provided, they were please with what they saw.
"The children look happy and appear to be having fun." Roland stated as he saw the pictures of children running around and playing games with big smiles on their faces.
Miranda nods, "Yes, and it is the Kingdom of Albingoria that is where King Garrick and his family live."
"True Miranda and that is also were a certain boy prince that our youngest daughter has a crush on." Roland said with an all knowing smile.
"Puppy love, my dear king, simply puppy love." Miranda said with a smile of her own, but the look in her eyes said something else, which had Roland clearing his throat uncomfortably before saying, "Right, now we should inform the children of our plans and the we make sure that they are packed and ready for 8 weeks of fun in the sun."
Miranda laughs as she follows her husband out of his study.
At dinner time the parents told the children of their plans for the summer, while Amber made a fuss, both James and Sofia were excited about the trip.
While the kids were busy packing, Amber was pouting while the other two were chatting about the possibilities for what activities that they could do and so forth.
"I wonder if they have archery or kayaking?" James said.
"Would it be cool of they had a climbing wall or zipline?" Sofia suggested.
"You guys can't be serious, our parents are basically sending us to a place with strangers." Amber said in huff.
Sofia goes to sit beside her big sister put an around her shoulders, "Come on Amber try to look on the bright side, it will be fun."
"Yeah Sofia's right, and besides it's only for 8 weeks, what the worst thing that could happen?" James asked as he came to sit the other side of Amber.
"Poison Ivy, wild creatures, lice, crazy campers." Amber said.
Both James and Sofia gave her an impressed look, "Really Amber, it will be fine, we will in a house and those things could happen to anyone, not just at camp, remember last year at Camp Wilderwood?" Sofia asked as she remembers that day that the twins weren't happy about the trip at first but by the end they were all having fun.
"Yes I remember, oh okay, I will give it a chance." Amber said happy to see the smile on Sofia's face as she hugged her.
A week later finds the the family all gathered in the carriage to drop off the children at their home for the summer.
Sofia was excited when she found where the location was, "It where Prince Hugo's Kingdom is, I can't wait to see him again."
James rolls his eyes at the star struck look in her eyes "Sofia, please you can see him after eight weeks."
"But there no other Parents or Kids here" Amber protested for the hundredth time to her parents.
"Amber from what I was told by the owner, there are two other kids there so please stop complaining." Miranda said as gently as she could, making Amber huff and pout looking out the window.
Baileywick who was driving the carriage with Roland sitting next to him. "Are you sure this for the best King Roland?"
Roland nods, "Yes I do, it would give the children other kids to play with and they can learn how to live like everyone else and not just a royal, don't worry Baileywick I am sure that they will be fine." he tries to reassure the man.
"Very well, my King." Baileywick agreed.
When they arrived at the home, it was quite modest for it's size, a simple one story house painted white with black shutters and simple oak door and small porch with a swing on it.
They were greeted by the owner of the house, Ms. Malum a tall woman in her 40''s with a friendly face and smile wearing a simple brown dress with a gray apron and black shoes.
"Why hello! I am Ms. Malum, and the owner of this fine establishment, you must be Prince James and Princesses Amber and Sofia, I am humbled to be your guardian for the next few weeks and I am sure that we will have a lot fun, and rest assure my majesties, your children will be under the best of care."
"Well, I am sure that they will be on their best behavior." Roland said as both he and Miranda hugged them all. "We'll see you in a few weeks, be good and have fun."
Once the carriage was out of sight the woman gives them a smile and gestures for them to follow her inside, when they got into the building, the inside was cold and dark with little warm as the walls and floors were gray with not many decorations or pictures.
Hearing the sound of a lock, they turned to see Ms. Malum locking the front door and tucking the key into her pocket, before she turns to sneer at the children.
"Alright you brats, hand over your suitcases and any jewelry you have on you and be quick about it!" She orders as they quickly hand over everything, except for Sofia she had her amulet concealed with a spell before coming here to prevent anyone from stealing it or taking it off.
"Now, I want you three to go into the wash room and put these on." She shows them a few pairs of fade and ratty navy blue overalls with and equally ratty white shirt and socks, but no shoes.
When Amber saw the clothes she immediately started to protest, "I am a princess, I don't wear rags for clothes and you can't make me!"
Ms. Malum just narrows her eyes angrily and said "Is that so? Well then how's about this for a compromise." Like lighting she backhanded Amber hard across the face knocking the girl down to floor.
Both James and Sofia were stunned, but they immediately gathered around Amber to hopefully protect her from the tyrant of a woman.
"That was just a taste of what I dish out to mouthy brats, next time I won't be so nice, now go and put on your clothes, before I decide to dish another punishment for continuing to defy me." The woman sneers coldly as both Sofia and James helped Amber stand and they made their way to the only bathroom that they saw.
The bathroom was just a simple bathroom with a toilet, sink and tub, but unfortunately there wasn't privacy screen much their dismay.
"How should we do this?" James asked as Amber was still silence as the handprint bruise stood out on her pale face.
"Just turn around and we will dressed and we do the same and then it will be over quickly." Sofia suggested.
James blushes a bit in embarrassment as he turns his back to them, "Just hurry up okay?"
After hearing a Rustling of clothes, once James heard "Done", he looks over to the girls standing the ratty clothes that practically swam around them as they didn't quite fit.
So after they turned to give him privacy, Amber finally spoke in whisper, "Sofia do you still have your Echantlet by chance?"
Sofia shook her head sadly, "After Mr. Cedric erased everyone, except you and Aunt Tilly's memories of it, I thought I wouldn't need it on this tip, so I left it at home."
"So this means two things, I am the only one with exception of Aunt Tilly to know about your Echantlet and we are basically trapped here until our parents come and get us." Amber said with dishearten expression on her face.
"It would seem so, Amber, it would seem so." Sofia said only for all three to jump high when a loud pounding on the bathroom was heard and a shout of, "Get your lazy butts moving before I come in there and move it for you, I don't have all day!"
Seeing that they were as decent as they could be in these clothes, they left the bathroom to come face to face with the woman glaring at them before turning and walking down a long hallway, they followed after her, seeing her pound on another door before opening it and they all walked to see two other children wearing the same type of clothes, only they were in worse shape, they faces were gaunt and dirty, their long hair was greasy and matted as they stood up front and center at the ends of their beds.
"These two will show you the ropes and tell you the rules and the consequences if you break them, I will see you at dinner." The woman leaves abruptly slamming and locking the door behind her.
