NieR RE:Surgence

Chapter 1: Memento Mori

"Humanity can never be freed… They are trapped in cages. Cursed unto the never ending cycle of violence. Damned into eternal conflict of war. Humanity lost its wings, unable to fly away that is so far from here. The corpse of a dragon brought ruin to this dying world, and brought unto the power of magic. The only thing now left in this dying world is to survive…"

6/11/2078 Rikers Island, New York, USA Daytime - Snowfall

In the ruined world where humanity was never free. 68 years have passed ever since the androids known as YoRHa have declared war on Humanity for unknown reasons. Ultimately, humanity had fallen and lost the war. And now, 50% of humanity's population remains as they are slowly entering the brink of extinction. And so it begins, the survival of the fittest. And currently, the only human resistance known as the Militia Front were formed just a few months ago after the survivors of New York agreed to band together in hopes to rebel and drive back the androids. Right now, the current focus is some particular group of about five of them as they were seen getting off the boat as they finally arrived on land in which the place is none other than the Rikers Island. A large prison complex but has been untouched except that nature has overgrown on this particular island. But among the group is where four Militia soldiers were wearing their black combat uniform, helmet, and a gas mask as they wielded assault rifles and battle rifles respectively. Except for one where the young man had white hair, brown eyes, black zipped up hoodie and grey pants as he remained silent. He had a particular sword that he stole from one of the YoRHa androids with the blade engraved weirdly with the word "JUST". The man looked at the building as he stared at it for a few seconds but suddenly dazed off a little.

"Hey… You there, Rookie? Rookie! Stop dazing out." The militia soldier said to him as the man regained his senses.

"Right, sorry…" The man continued… or rather his name was Evan Kelso. The latest recruit of the Militia Front. Nothing is to be said about him or yet, feels mysterious. "It's just that-"

"Don't be." The soldier continued. "Evan, right? The commander thinks highly of you since you first joined. Be glad that you're chosen to partake on this mission. Think of it as your… first mission as a rookie."

"You're being soft on me, aren't you?" Evan deadpanned.

"Perhaps so. However, we need to focus on the mission. Oh shit, I forgot to introduce myself. The names Gadot Ridgeway. I'm not a rookie just like you but I hold a higher rank of a Corporal Sergeant." Gadot continued. "Right now, we're getting nowhere but that building over there? Why not head there for yourself. I'll have my men patrol around the outside area as well as myself. I already assume that there are no enemies around as long we're safe. Tch. Damn fucking androids… Always there to ruin our day."

"Really? Me going alone? Shouldn't we do it together?" Evan asked him.

"Nah, man. You're on your own. The commander said we need to find this so-called 'Secret Weapon' located here in Rikers Island. It's said that it'll turn the tide of battle once we take the fight to them." Gadot said as he slapped his back as he only moved once. "So get in that building already! Don't worry, we'll guard the outside and try to communicate with you if things go south."

Evan only sighed in annoyance as he didn't have much of a choice. He decided to enter inside the complex alone in search of a mysterious weapon that is rumored to be there all because of some weird signal they received. Sure, it wouldn't be too much of a hassle so he decided to venture right in.

[LOCATION: Prison Cells]

As Evan entered the area where he could see some of the cells were left open while others were closed but the iron bars had been bent and rusted out. He was amazed that the building was left standing and the roofs were left open to leave natural lighting reflecting the surface but still, overtaken by nature. But, he must focus on the mission: To find the secret weapon hiding inside this island. He stood there and took a deep breath as he forgot one thing…

"Croire. You can wake up now." Evan said to a mysterious dark purple book with engravings as it was floating next to him as she spoke.

"Took you long enough for me to wake up… I was getting bored here!" Croire gleefully said in annoyance. "But seriously. I wouldn't mind if they get a reaction out of me!"

"Shut it. I don't want the people to freak out on me if they see me as some crazy wizard-ass madman." Evan continued. "Right now, I need to find a secret weapon hiding within this place."

"A secret weapon, huh?" Croire continued as she looked around. "To be honest, I don't see any secret weapons around here. Unless you think down under?"

"Down under? Thanks, Croire. Never thought of that." Evan was slightly surprised by her idea… but suddenly, they heard the sounds of metal clanking on the floor as it appears to be YoRHa androids in black iron armor wielding swords and spears as they recently dived down from a hole on the roof of the complex. "And just like that… They're here."

Battle Android: "Human detected. Proceeding termination protocol."

"Well now, things just got interesting. Hope you remember the time you awoke me from my long slumber since this happened." Croire spun around as he grabbed out the Type-4O Sword which is his main weapon of choice. But his sword was chipped, slightly rusted, scratched, and everywhere in between and it appears to have white painted street graffiti that is unreadable.

"Hmph. I haven't fought in a while. Hopefully I didn't have my combat training rust out." Evan said as he prepared himself in his combat stance to see which one of the six androids goes first. However, the combat android rushed first as she was about to attack until he dodged to his right and swung his sword and began her back as it made some damage, he then continued the book of Croire as she opened her pages. "Enjoy this!"

Croire begins to conjure a dark purple lance with weird mysterious words of language spiraling around a pointed lance. Evan then thrust his sword to fire off a lance that impaled an android as it started to malfunction and explode. The other androids weren't fazed or reactive at all after he dealt one. So, Even decided to rush towards another android as he swung his sword fiercely with slashes everywhere. Though the android defended herself with her own sword until Evan grabbed the sword from her hands and stabbed her with it and finished her off with a decapitation as her android head was rolling on the dirty floor. Suddenly, another android was behind him as she was mid-air to land an attack. But Even turned around to follow up a counter attack as he swung his sword up high, causing her to be launched back into the air. He then used Croire once again to fire volleys of dark projectiles speeding towards and causing an impact on the mid-android as it took many hits and not touching the ground at all. Then, it finally exploded. The last three remaining YoRHa androids starts to surround him as he decided to concentrate when he raised his hand up in the air as Croire begin flipping her pages as the mysterious sigil appears below him as it begins to form more pin-pointed arrows from two to four, and all the way up to eight as it was ready. The androids were about to close up on him until Evan slammed his hand onto the ground as it began to create dark spikes that rose up from the ground, impaling the androids as they became lifeless a few seconds later. The spikes disappear as the body of the androids falls on the ground. Evan finally catches some breath as he puts his sword behind his back as it was sheathed

"So… you feel better now?" Croire asked him.

"A bit. At least I know how to fight after all. But damn, never knew these guys were here. I just hope the others are okay outside. For now, we need to go down below… The question is… how?" Evan thinked for a second as he looked around to understand the surroundings of the area. There, he saw something on a floor where it was cracked. It seemed like a crater but it was not like that. There, he found himself the obvious way in. "Bingo."

Evan grabbed out his sword as he leaped up into the air and dived down with his sword to stab the crack on the ground as it did. The ground's crack begins to expand as he proceeds to fall down. Just as Evan landed on the metal floor after he busted his way in. It appears that Croire was correct. It appears to be a mysterious lab as it appears to be straight out of some sci-fi movie with advanced technology. He looked behind what appears to be a long hallway. But, he decided to move forward in search of the secret weapon.

"This place is rather… strange to say at least." Croire said as Evan listened.

"What makes you say that?" Evan asked her.

"I mean… Isn't it strange? That we're the only ones here? And the people who used to work at this place suddenly… disappear." Croire was rather worried as he didn't even care.

"I get that. We'll never know if we'll find one. We just need to walk down that hallway and find what we're looking for. So let's go or I'll leave you behind." Evan said as he decided to run down the hallway.

"H-Hey! Wait for me!" Croire said as she chases after him as the two continue going down the long hallway. Evan didn't speak as he continued running as it didn't stop him at all. But, he begins to recall the events in his mind about his first mission to Rikers Island…

"Evan… I need you to come here. Today's your day."

"Commander Traydor. What is it?"

"You're going to Rikers Island. Because this'll be your first mission since you're eager to fight. I don't know anything about you but you seem to be a right fit for this one."

"That's fine. But why Rikers Island? That's place has been since abandoned after the war"

"Apparently. Rikers used to be a prison complex turned weapon lab when a group of engineers were trying to create this secret weapon that would turn the tide against the YoRHa androids. But it was too late when we lost the war."

"That sounds terrible."

"Yeah, I know. Which is apparently a fucking disaster. But now that we know the signal is coming from Rikers and the information we received from our hacked pod. We'll use that secret weapon to end these robotic bastards once and for all."

"Alright. I'm convinced. I'm in. When will I depart?"

"Glad you asked, Evan. You'll be departing now. I'll be contacting Gadot that you're coming with him so get going. For Humanity's Victory."

"For Humanity's Victory."

"So much for a letdown…" Evan said in his mind. He shakes it off as he focuses on the mission. Then, they finally reached the end of the hallway as he looked at it. The door begins to automatically open the door slowly. Slowly, the door opens extremely slowly. Evan didn't have time.

"Screw this shit…" He uses Croire to open her pages to create a dark purple hand in the shape like a fist as he was ready to punch the door down.

And so he did, the doors were knocked down due to his impatience. Evan took a deep breath to regain his composure. Then, he looked around what appears to be an actual lab complete with equipment, weapons, everything. But is it really where the secret weapon is located? But in reality… it's more nothing than a mess. Presumably, the people who used to work here have gone insane and died or the androids got to them. But Evan would assume that the scientists went insane.

"Well now, it seems we've hit the jackpot. I mean, look at all this! We can bring everything back to base. The commander might be pleased about it." Croire suggested as he shook his head.

"We can't bring everything, Croire. We're only here to find one. And that is the super weapon." Evan then brings out his phone device with an advanced sensor that automatically detects a key objective such as the super weapon. "Guess we're very close. Now to follow where the signal's at the more it beeps."

Evan continued walking closer to the source where the device beeps faster and faster until he arrived at where it is. Within the slightly medium room where there was a glass pod that could fit a human inside it. He deactivated his device and examined it.

"Guess we found it… a super weapon." Evan said as Croire hovered to look.

"I don't think that's a super weapon… I think?" Croire asked.

"What? The objective has to be correct… unless something is inside it within the misty glass, then…" Evan then wipes the mist off the glass as it comes to a shock… The super weapon is none other than to be… "An android? W-What? This doesn't make any sense! The secret weapon is this!? No, no, no… This isn't right. There's gotta be there somewhere unless… The computer. Perhaps there could be data I look through."

"You sure? I mean, that android could be our secret weapon. What if that thing is designed to kill YoRHa androids?" Croire wondered about it as he sighed while using the computer terminal to look through the files.

"If it does, it'll convert working back with them and then kill us all. Again, I don't believe in this. There's gotta be something…" Evan continued skimming through the files until he looked into one particular file… the one from 2047. He was curious to see what's inside as he tapped the holographic screen as it contained two video files inside. The one was called "Android". And the other was called "Truth". Yet, he wasn't picky on something to choose but he decided to tap one of the video files to give it a play as he and Croire watched.

[PLAYING VIDEO FILE - Android]

[Date Recorded: 2/17/2047]

The video plays as it shows a blonde man wearing glasses wearing a lab coat as he was all alone within the underground facility but in a room. But the video showed the vision of an android in which she was sitting on a chair and an arm rest as he was seen studying her for some reason. But, he grabbed a clipboard and wrote things down as he approached her but she didn't speak.

"February 17, 2047. This is Armin Kleiner from Austin Dynamics." Armin then sighed. "I don't know what's going on anymore. Ever since the war against the androids, things are looking bad as I expect. We're losing. And that's the point. But… her… I was given a special task by my higher ups to look into this particular… android. I believe she's from YoRHa but… based on her recorded memories… How should I say it… Unexpected. Ever since she was deactivated, the soldiers brought her to me and look into her. Right now, she's half-awake. Unable to speak, unable to look around, but she can see, hear, and feel."

Armin then puts the clipboard on the table as he moves back to the computer terminal as he uses the holographic screen to look into details.

"Let's see… YoRHa Unit Attacker No. 2… Otherwise known as A2 for short as her primary designation. Status: Alive. Affiliation: Formally of YoRHa. I see… so she defected and was branded as a traitor. If the Androids were able to find out. They'll kill us all and A2. I shouldn't think of dark thoughts. But… my peers must not find out about this as well. This is something that I must tackle. I must change her. Rewrite her. She cannot remain with that name any longer. I'll have to dive deep within her Black Box and find out." Armin then looked at A2 as he smiled. "Don't worry, you're safe with me. Trust me on this… I know you'll hate me for it… but this is the only way. Rest and sleep. I'll take it from here."

Armin then uses the computer terminal to shut off A2's vision as he begins doing things on his own… and that was the end of the video.

"A2, huh? Seems she's been kept here for so long. Don't you think, Evan?" Croire asked him as he nodded.

"Pretty much. But there's another video. I'll play it right now." Evan then plays the second and final video of Armin's last moments with the so-called A2.

[PLAYING VIDEO FILE - Truth]

[Date Recorded: 7/22/2048]

The video plays as what appears to be thumps from above the labs as the lights were flickering a little but became stable. Armin came into the room and locked the door behind him. However, the android known as A2 was awake but still couldn't speak. He was catching his breath but his lab coat was battered and dirty and his head was slightly bleeding as he seemed to be scared. But he wanted to speak with her once more.

"H-Hey, A2… I know you're listening to this but… I'll try to make this quick before the YoRHa androids storm in… The soldiers… they're all dead… My peers, too. It seems I'm the last one left." Armin continued as he took a deep breath to reflect on himself. But he was ready to speak again. "So… it's been a year, huh? After I promise to change you, make you a better person… or android whatever you are. I want to help you and I did. I kept all of that promise… for you. Yet, I had so many trial and errors of wiping every single memory I try to rewrite and recreate. And after so many attempts… I finally did it. What now you ask? Good question. I've given you a memory and how your past life feels like. I know people won't accept you because you are an android but… I want you to understand that it's okay to love people or protect what you want to cherish. I'm not sure how you'll regain your past memories back but… I took every step and measures to make sure no other androids can recall you. I know you met some you've encountered as enemies but that's the thing of the past. I've given you that hope, a new identity. That is who you are, A- No… Kairi… That will be your new name, Kairi. Remember that. As for your memories… it belonged to someone else but still. You may still think you're human but… That's who you are, Kairi. And for those who are listening to this recording… Take the flash drive containing my final message for Kairi. The truth of all everything. Use it when the time is right."

Suddenly, the lab shakes again as Armin realizes they're already here. He knew his time had come. The androids are here to kill the last survivor.

"My time has come… But If I don't return. You must run away. By yourself, alone. I discarded your previous name, forgot the past and started a new life as someone else. A new beginning." Armin shed a tear from his eyes as he wiped it. So, he grabbed a nearby iron pipe near him and headed out the room as he was ready to face them by himself. "Come on… Fight me!"

"Human detected. Proceeding termination." The voice of an android spoke as it kills Armin as blood spills over, ending the video recording.

"So that's his fate? That seems rather unfortunate for him to die like that." Croire added as Evan stood there silently. "Evan?"

"I know… I know she's not a secret weapon but… An objective is an objective. I'm going to wake her up." Evan said as he uses the computer terminal once more as he decides to find a way to open the pod.

"W-Wait, wait, wait! You're serious about this, aren't you?" Croire stuttered in shock as he was dead serious.

"I am. Since I saw both of his recordings. I might as well bring this one with me. I don't know why but I'll have to keep this away from her." Evan then takes the flash drives and keeps it safe somewhere in his pockets. So, he continued back working on the terminal as he found the main system for the pod where he was greeted with various options. There, he knew where he was going. "Alright… hopefully she's the secret weapon we're looking for…"

Evan then activated the pod to open up as the mists emitted out of the hatch as it was rather cold. But he was surprised to meet her for the first time. She had long white hair and a black ripped clothing exposing her android skin all around her. But, she had a white flower attached to the left of her hair like a hairpin. Though, she was currently asleep at the time. Evan did not hesitate as he approached the sleeping android until someone was here as he, his book, and the android was not alone.

"Well done, I'm quite surprised that you decided to wake her from her slumber." The voice of a curious woman spoke as he grabbed out his sword and pointed at her… it was a dark brown haired girl with long twin tails, glasses, and carrying a large white suitcase. Yet, she seemed enigmatic for some reason but yet, she doesn't pose a threat.

"Who the hell are you… You an YoRHa android? Speak!" Evan demanded as the woman wasn't fazed of his aggressiveness towards her.

"If you're asking about the question. No, I'm not from YoRHa like you asked but I am an android. I'm merely an observer. A recorder to say at least." The woman continued. "My name is Accord. I've been hearing about you, Evan Kelso."

"How did you know my name? I don't even know you." Evan demanded.

"Everyone in this world knows all about you, Evan. Only some, though. But I'm only here to speak to you with a warning." Accord said to him.

"Well, spit it out!" Evan replied.

"What I'm trying to say is… Once you wake her up… There's no turning back. In the end, you will soon fulfill your purpose when the time comes. After all, the world is dying as you know it." Accord answered back at him as she adjusted her glasses.

"No shit, Sherlock." Evan continued. "Why talk to me with all of these 'purposes' to 'fulfill', huh?"

"That's because you're given a role. It's like playing a hero." Accord then turned around and thinked for a second. "You know what people say about heroes. You either die as a Hero. Or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. Right?"

Evan remained silent as he didn't believe in her words. Playing a hero? It didn't matter to him. Who he is is merely a Militia rookie who was tasked with finding a 'super weapon' but it turns out it was an android instead. Accord was preparing to leave the area until she turned around.

"Oh and, you might want to check on that android. Don't you think she's waking up?" Accord said with a point at the android when Evan turned around for a moment, then turned back to where she was at. But she was already gone.

"Great…" Evan sighed. "Croire. She's going to wake up, right?"

"It would seem so. But that woman… Who was she anyways? She gives me the creeps…" Croire shutters as he was seen looking at the android.

"Don't know, don't care. She's going to wake up. Just need to see if she's doing fine…" Evan said as the android opened her eyes, revealing her light pink eyes which is yet beautiful for a woman to get. The android starts to look around her surroundings to get a clear picture. But, she noticed a young man and a floating book. "Hey… You're finally awake. You've been sleeping in the pod for too long. Or rather years since time went by. Can you speak?"

"Ugh… Yeah…" Then android spoke. "Of course I can speak… What is it to you, dumbass…"

"Geez, so much for a big mouth…" Evan said in his thoughts as he spoke. "Right… you're Kairi, right? You've been staying here for too long. I'm just here to get you out of here. I know you have many questions but we have no time."

"Wait… My name is Kairi, right?" The android named Kairi asked him as he nodded. "I see… Well no matter, you said you want to get out of here, right?"

"Yeah. I work for the Militia. We're still at war against then androids of YoRHa? You know them?" Evan asked her as she responded in annoyance.

"Look, do I give a fuck? I don't care about who you're fighting with. I just wanna know that the hell is going on here. Why did I wake up from that… damn pod…" Kairi spat and growled as she was barely confused as to why she is here in this lab.

"I guess she doesn't care about it. For at least I know that she is a completely new person rather than the thing of the past." Evan spoke in his thoughts as he continued. "Okay, okay. I get it that you don't care. My name is Evan Kelso. Pleasure to meet you-"

"Hey, Evan! Come in! Answer me god dammit!" The voice of Gadot spoke from the radio communicator as he grabbed it out.

"This is Evan, I've secured the super weapon but-" Evan tried to finish his sentence as Gadot spoke once again.

"I need fucking help right now! The YoRHa Androids are here! They've found our location! I'm the last one remaining and the others were killed! I can't fight for much longer! So get your ass over here and- GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Gadot screamed in anguish as he was killed in action. Evan ends the radio chatter as he knew things would happen.

"Well, we're heading out. First, you need a weapon-" Evan was about to speak to her about it as Kairi had already grabbed it from her pod for some reason. It's the same sword that Evan has.

"Like you were saying?" Kairi asked him.

"On a second thought, that works. Let's go." Evan and Kairi then left the labs to see what's going on outside.

"About time…" Croire said as she followed in pursuit as they still needed to deal with the long hallways…

[LOCATION: Outside of Rikers Island]

As the two including the book arrived outside. Kairi was surprised to see that the world felt different but yet, desolate. However, they looked at the YoRHa Androids who had killed the rest of the Militia soldiers until they set their sights on the two.

"Human detected. Android detected. Scanning-" The android was about to scan until Evan used the Dark Lance from Croire and impaled the android.

"I don't have time for this. She's coming with me. And you're all going to die here!" Evan said as he rushed towards the androids as he was engaged in combat. Kairi saw of what's going on as if she knew the situation. Androids are killing humans. But yet, she is an android. But why? However, a few androids started to surround her as she held tightly on her blade.

"You dumbfucks are not ready… I'll make sure that I'll cut you little shits into pieces until you're fucking dead!" Kairi shouted as she used her sword to cut the torso of an android and got into combat with the other two.

"Good god… I've never seen her being THAT angry!" Croire was shocked by Kairi's 'newfound' personality. She is rude, brash, and violent. "You're hearing this, Evan!?"

"Never knew she'd be into shit talking down on her enemies." Evan said as he stabbed one android through her chest as fake blood spurts out when he pulled it out.

"Die already so I can shit on your goddamn corpse and piss in your eye sockets!" Kairi continued bad-mouthing as she continued fighting the androids.

"...That too." Evan added as he uses Croire to conjure the Dark Hand as he grabs the Android mid-air as he begins crushing her with pure force as the android begins to malfunction as her body is crunched and blood spews out all over. "That's the last one… You finished killing, Kairi?"

"Just did. Just what the hell is going on here…" Kairi said as she pulled back her sword from the head of the android that she thrusted.

"Told you, we're in a war. Right now, we'll have to go back to base. Fort Summit. It's a settlement filled with human survivors like me." Evan explained to her about it as she was rather unfazed but irritated after looking at the androids for too long.

"Huh… No wonder why these Androids must have really hated you." Kairi added as he scratched the back of his head.

"Err, yeah… They've gone bad in the end but who cares. There's a boat nearby so I'll take you there. Come on." Evan said to her as she complied. The group then heads to the boat as Evan starts the engine as it roars to life. He controlled the boat as they began making their way back into the city.

As soon they were taking a boat back to base… Accord was seen on top of the building of the complex as she had a slight smile on her face after she felt interested in observing his journey.

"And so he goes." Accord continued. "I wonder how far your journey takes you with that android of yours, Evan Kelso. Will you follow the Path of Glory? Or to the Path of Ruin? Perhaps we'll find out in the future, perhaps…"

Accord then leaves the scene as Evan and Kairi remain silent as he looks up at the cloudy sky. He wasn't surprised that there was no sunlight but he continued on his way as usual…

6/11/2078 Fort Summit, Times Square, New York City, New York, USA Evening - Snowfall

As time passed into night. Evan, Croire, and Kairi arrived at the Summit. The skyscraper in New York where it's about 100 floors. But, it's been heavily guarded by the Militia Soldiers, complete with snipers, gatekeepers, turrets, and watchers who have been keeping this place protected from YoRHa Androids for months. Kairi looked up at the sky to see the skyscraper that barely touched the clouds in the sky.

"So that's where you live? Color me-fucking-impressed." Kairi said as Evan looked at her.

"Trust me, the leader and the commander of this settlement knows how to do defense as well. We pretty much mass produced EMP tools that are apparently effective against them. Though, they're only used for base defense only if YoRHa dares to invade with everything they have. I wouldn't be surprised if they were aware." Evan continued. "Let's go inside. Don't worry, the guards knew me well when I first joined the Militia army."

"Whatever you say." Kairi followed both Evan and Croire as they approached the gate as the guards commanded the people to open the gate. But they were stopped by the two gatekeepers as they wanted to know why she's here.

"Hold it, rookie." The first guard asked.

"Why do you have this girl with you? Her body looks awfully familiar…" The second guard asked him.

"I came back from the mission. I have the secret weapon." Evan tried to persuade them as the guards were surprised when he said it.

"A secret weapon, huh? Alright, you can pass through. And keep an eye on her, rookie." The guards let them pass as they entered through the gate.

But he's even surprised that they're just letting an android in like Kairi for some reason but as long he watches her, it'll be fine. But, his current objective is to get to the commander and provide him the update of what happened. But within the first floor, Kairi could see the people living a quiet, but shittier life as they're used to. They were on the second floor while the first floor was the main hub. The second floor only shows the market/residential area where the group were passing through the residents who have been living here. However, it was like a night market where people were seen cooking some street food at some stand. People drinking beer to get rid of their worries. But, they arrived at the elevator where it's apparently still functionable. The guards who were guarding the elevator door saluted Evan's arrival as they recognized him. They entered the elevator. Currently, there are five floors at the moment while the rest are left unfinished for some reason. So instead, Even pressed the fifth floor where the commander is at. Then a few minutes later, they were already at the fifth floor and entered inside the commander's office where the bald gruff-looking man named Traydor was seen looking outside of the window to see the view outside of New York as the snow continued to fall.

"Commander. I'm back. I… bring you bad news." Evan said to the commander.

"Well then, let's hear it." Traydor demanded as he continued looking outside.

"Gadot and his squadron were killed in action by the YoRHa Androids. They found out the location but I survived and escaped." Evan continued. "But the good news… I have her… well, the 'secret weapon' you asked for."

"So you've found it?" Traydor asked him.

"Yes… but you're bound to be disappointed." Evan replied back to him as Traydor turned around to see an android.

"Her? A secret weapon?" Treydor asked in question.

"Y-Yeah. Though, In reality, there was no secret weapon. It was a signal coming from the labs itself. It had no super weapon that you asked for. Instead, I freed her from her sleep. Her name is Kairi. She uh… She has no recollection of her memories whatsoever." Evan introduced her to Traydor. In which she has been silent this whole time.

"So… you're an Android… right?" Traydor asked her as she was rather irritated by his question.

"What the fuck do you think I look like, shit-for-brains?" Kairi only spatted at him to a point where Evan intervened.

"L-Look, she I know she's like that but trust me on this… She's my responsibility. Okay?" Evan pleaded with him as Traydor was growing anger but he kept his composure and took a deep breath.

"Fine… Just because she's an Android doesn't mean I'll trust her. If she causes some trouble… That's all on you." Traydor simply warned him as Kairi groaned in annoyance.

"Are we done talking?" Kairi continued as she decided to leave. "Hey, kid. I'll be outside the room if you're finished. I don't wanna be near that moron…"

Just as Kairi left the room. Both remained silent as Croire remained silent, hiding behind him.

"Again, I'm sorry." Evan apologized.

"It's alright." Traydor continued. "However, since we lost some men at Rikers and tricked them into finding the source rather than a so-called super weapon… Seems I'll have to go back to a drawing board, bolster up my men tomorrow morning to perform some patrols. But just this evening, we lost contact with the Japan branch of the Militia… DAMN IT!"

Traydor slammed the table as things are just looking slim. Evan remained silent about it. The commander decided to calm down as he drank some whiskey from his glass shot. So, he decided to turn around and look outside the window.

"Sir, do you mind telling me of what's going on in Japan, exactly?" Evan asked him.

"Japan is still having a rough time as we speak." Traydor continued. "Ever since they put their magic barrier up back in 2009. They were successful in containing the disease on the source that started it all. But at the cost of losing 90% of Japan's population. Only few but many people survive after the White Chlorination Syndrome finally died out in 2057 during the war. I'm surprised that it was not as strong as it seems but it was deemed threatening if it ever spreads throughout the world with Maso everywhere."

"You mean the giant flower with five female statues that got crumbled? I've read some history behind it when I first joined, sir." Evan said to him about it.

"Including the dragon that got shot down by a missle back in 2003 along with that flower? Yes. But thanks to the power of magic that was introduced… Japan was the first to harness the power and turn it into a powerful technology. Only for them to make a barrier large enough to keep it contained. But as of today… the barrier is still there. The Japanese were unable to leave but were able to contact us… until that happened. Good thing the YoRHa dipshits can't enter Japan which is good. But sadly, even us humans can't enter the barrier unless there is some way to remove it now that the WCS is gone since it's pretty safe. Right now, it's too early. We need more preparation if we need to take the fight to them. We're still missing military air vehicles like fighter jets or some shit." Traydor then takes another sip from his whiskey again. "That reminds me… you're also hiding something from me, are you?"

"Y-Yeah… Guess cat's out of the bag. Croire, stop hiding and be a good book for once." Evan said as Croire appears behind him since it's literally a floating, talking book.

"You don't need to be so rude about it, Evan. Sheesh!" Croire pouted as Traydor turned around as he was shocked.

"No way… The legendary Grimoire Croire… How on earth did you get that? I've heard legends about it but… this is the first time I'm seeing it." Traydor wanted to know as Evan spoke in.

"Well… It was fate I guess. Can't remember when but she's been part of my journey when I join you guys." Evan responded as he sighed.

"I see… I can respect that but whatever. Go get some sleep. There are things I must get prepared for tomorrow. You're dismissed." Traydor said to him as he nodded.

"Thanks, sir. Let's go, Croire. I'm getting tired as hell." Evan and Croire left the room as he decided to call it a night. As they were outside of the door. He noticed that Kairi was waiting for him as she approached Evan.

"You finished?" Kairi asked him.

"Yeah. I just did. I'm going to sleep soon since I'm feeling tired. How's getting used to the place and its people there? I know things didn't go easy for you but still." Evan said as Kairi looked away a little.

"I get that. It's just that I'm not used to people like that. Some are fucking weird. And some are just… downright shittier." Kairi continued. "Again, but you said that you'd look over for me, yea?"

"Exactly. Though, people would glare at you because everyone here has a very extreme hatred for Androids. But as long you're with me, you'll be fine. I just don't want anyone to harm you." Evan yawned. "Damn… Anyways, as much as I want to keep talking… You uh… wanna come into my room? You know? If you wanna sleep."

"Sure why not. I got nothing to do but perhaps I can just kick in and relax after what happened at the island. But you owe me when you woke me up. I don't know what the fuck is going on with this world but if you got some shit to do. I'm here to help you out, I guess." Kairi said to him as he had a slight smile.

"Well, ain't that nice of you having a soft side.~" Croire said to her as she only sighed.

"Cram it, book. Anyways, kid. Show me your room." Kairi asked him as the book simply frowned.

"You don't even need to call me that…" Croire responded.

"O-Oh… Sure thing. Follow me. I'll lead you the way." Evan then brings Kairi with him down to the elevator as they head their way to Evan's room.

[LOCATION: Evan's Room, Residential Area, 4th Floor]

Then on the fourth floor Evan and Kairi entered inside his own bedroom which is decent enough to fit three people but for some reason, there was a second next besides Evan's bed. Though, his room is not that wild… but just completely normal.

"Umm… Welcome to my humble abode. Feel free to make yourself at home. It's pretty generic but it'll do." Evan then placed his sword against the wall as he rested on the bed as he turned on the lamp. Croire hovered and layed on the desk.

"After so long, why not get some rest as well, Kairi? You do seem tired, tho." Croire asked her.

"Croire… She's an android. They pretty much don't need sleep…" Evan corrected her in response. However, Kairi didn't care as she slept on the bed.

"Well, whatever. I still need some rest anyways…" Kairi said as she finally gets her rest.

"See? She's sleeping. Nuff said." Evan said to the book.

"Really now? I was just making up assumptions of how androids perform. What about their daily lives? What do they do? What is their routine?" Croire added in order to lecure Evan.

"Some androids do that but Kairi here is a special one. Why do you gotta assume just like that?" Evan replied.

"I'm not assuming things. I'm just speaking my opinion on it." Croire responded back as Kairi groaned in annoyance.

"Can you two just shut the fuck up and let me sleep!?" Kairi growled as she managed to shut them up as she went back to sleep.

"On a second thought… I'll sleep." Evan said to the book.

"Good idea." Croire added as Evan turned off the lamp as he decided to go to sleep and call it a day. After his long weird adventure on waking up Kairi from her sleep at Rikers. But the woman named Accord telling them he has some sort of purpose to fulfill.

"I'm going to feel like shit after this… But I'm glad that this bizzare day is over. As long as I watch over Kairi… I'm good." Evan said within his mind as the sounds were becoming more deafening and mute as he continued to sleep as it was pure silent and pitch black. And so… he begins to vision one thing…

?/?/? The Bed of Flowers Daytime - Clear Sky

Evan began to wake up within a dream. Unknowing where he was at. Yet, the sky seemed clear to him as everything was normal. He got up from the floor as he looked at the white flower. It reminded him of what Kairi wore on her head. But there were a lot of them for some reason. But he can also see a giant white flower from afar, even around him. Yet, it confuses him in the weirdest way possible. However, what he saw in front of him was none other than himself covered in shadows and glowing yellow eyes. Evan slowly approached him as he stopped around 10 ft apart.

"Can you hear the song?" His other self said to him.

"What are you talking about? I hear no song…" Evan deadpanned as his shadow self teleports and reappears behind him.

"Liar. You do hear it." The shadow retorted as he reappeared from another direction as Matt looked to his left.

"Look. I don't understand what you're saying." Evan replied in confusion as the shadow spoke.

"The song beckons from the Flower." The shadow continued as he walked around him until he reappeared once again when Evan looked to his right. "You cannot escape from this kind of fate. It chains you down, like a slave."

"You know what? Forget it. This is wasting my time…" Evan decided to turn around and leave this area until his shadow teleported in front of him as he noticed and took a step back a few feet apart. "Tch… You're not letting me go, are you?"

"I won't let you escape. Suffering is the key." The shadow said as Evan saw the giant white flower that was already sprouting as it gave 'birth' to a completely white giant woman that almost resembled Kairi but it was someone else. As she placed her right hand to her chest and her left hand to the sky with her eyes closed. Then, she froze like a statue. Even then I looked back at the shadow. "You have awoken the android. Only for her to carry your burdens."

"Shut up…" Evan continued as he tightened his fist to the point where he's pissed. "I'm just getting sick and tired of you making nonsensical shit! How about I just kill you here and now so you won't bother me again, huh!?"

"You will suffer." The shadow said as it started to multiply itself into a huge army of a legion about 100 of them. Evan gritted his teeth as he saw a sword falling down from the sky, stabbing a ground. It was a white katana that was unfamiliar to him.

"That's not even my sword… but it'll do." Evan pulled out the katana as he was prepared. He knows Croire isn't with him because it's his dream… or his nightmare as he views it. "Come on… I'll kill you all!"

Evan rushed into the battle as he swung his katana against his shadows as they were slashed instantly like they're spectral ghosts. He continues slashing more and more but the shadows start to reappear again as they continue to slowly walk towards him. Yet, they're not stopping until he 'suffers'.

YOU WILL SUFFER.

THE WORLD IS A LIE.

THE FLOWER SINGS.

AND YOU WILL LISTEN.

The shadows spoke in unison like some sort of speech as they continued walking. Evan continues fighting them as he struggles to keep up with his stamina. Yet, they just keep coming back every time he cuts them down. Yet, there's pretty much no end to them until the woman on the flower begins to sing as it was so loud that it reached all the way to him. Evan became staggered when he dropped the sword as he felt this pain when he covered his ears. He couldn't do anything. He was weakened. He was fragile. He was vulnerable. His shadows finally got up to him as they grabbed him all over and suddenly melted into a puddle of shadows as the hands proceeded to pull him down.

"D-Damn it!" Evan cursed as he struggled as he continued to be pulled down slowly. But he started to feel pain inside his head as the shadows spoke in unison once again but they repeated the same exact words once again.

YOU.

WILL.

He couldn't scream, he couldn't seek help, he was trapped by his own fears. Trapped by this nightmare in the field of flowers. The hands have finally pulled him down as his eyes shaken in fear where there is no escape. No matter what he does. He closed his eyes in hope everything was all just a dream as his vision was pitch black. And the noise became dead silent.

6/12/2078 Fort Summit, NYC, New York, USA Morning - Cloudy

Evan jolted a bit as he woke up from a nightmare when he took a deep breath to calm down. He was still confused about why it would happen like this? A dream where he woke up on the bed of white flowers, and then times the giant ones where women were sprouting out of the giant flowers as well. Yet, it annoyed him for one bit.

"Fuck…" Evan cursed quietly as he got up from his head and grabbed his casual clothing he once wore pretty much every time.

"Well, you seemed to wake up a little late." Croire was next to him despite her being up early and minute ago. "If you're looking for Kairi. She's waiting outside of your room."

"I see. I'll go talk to her if she's okay." Evan said as he grabbed his sword and put it on his back and prepared himself to go outside. Just as he did, he finds Kairi waiting for him.

"Hey, kid. Didn't want to bother you when you were asleep. So, you got some free time today?" Kairi asked him.

"I suppose. I do recall that I'm supposed to meet up with the settlement's blacksmith today. I haven't talked to him but he's on the first floor. The lobby of course. You wanna come with me?" Evan said to her as she shrugged as she didn't care.

"Eh. Why not. It's not like I have nothing to do anyways." Kairi responded to him as Evan added.

"And uh… try not to cause some trouble. The people-" Evan tried to finish the sentence as Kairi simply sighed.

"Look, I know. People would find me so fucking suspicious. Let's just go." Kairi said to him as he nodded as they proceeded their way down on an elevator.

[LOCATION: First Floor - Lobby]

As they made it down to the lobby area where there were not many people there except the blacksmith shop that had just opened up this morning as Evan, Croire, and Kairi approached the owner of the shop where the man with blonde hair was seen sorting his tools. But, the wall on the shop shows some swords, firearms, anywhere in between. Though, Evan was more willing to talk to him.

"Hey, Diego. You there?" Evan asked him as the blacksmith noticed when he looked at him.

"Oh, Evan! You're right on time. I was just sorting things out here and there." Diego said as he finished on some small task.

"That's good to hear. Anyways, I need a new weapon. I can't stick with this one forever." Evan said as he grabbed out his sword and placed it on the table. Though, Diego looked at it as he grabbed the sword to inspect it.

"Figures. Guess the sword you stole from them has seen better days. But, I already have something in mind. I think you'll like it." Diego then grabs something under the table as he brings out a large weapon case if there is ever a firearm contained inside. "It's not a gun but a two-handed blade. Open it and tell me what you think of it?"

Evan remained silent as he decided to open the weapon case as it was revealed to be a mysterious two-handed blade that is unfamiliar to him and yet, it looked unique as he held it.

"The hell is this? Where did you even find it, exactly?" Evan asked him about it.

"Oh, that? Well, it was given to me by some benefactor by the name of Accord." Diego said as Evan completely knows her name. "She called this one the Blade of Bondage. To be honest, I don't know why she called it that but it proved useful to you. Oh! I almost forgot. About your sword… I'm afraid that it's damaged badly, too many jagged chips on the blade, scratches, rust, and pretty much anywhere. Did you make sure to maintain your blade?"

"No, I haven't." Evan replied as he sighed in disappointment.

"Seriously, you should do that next time instead of being reckless. But, perhaps I can fix that. It'll be free of charge so expect to see some modification on your blade." Diego then looked at the woman. "That reminds me. Who's she?"

"Kairi. The woman that I rescued." Evan introduced her to the blacksmith as she looked away.

"Hey…" Kairi replied coldly.

"That's good to know. Anyways, I'll resharpen your blade so it'll be good for new. I dunno why you put street graffiti on the sword that I can't read." Diego tried to ask him about it as he shrugged.

"I dunno. I just do things I like. Just sharpen my blade already." Evan sighed when he glared at him. Diego chuckled awkwardly as he started to sharpen his sword right away as Evan put his Blade of Bondage on his back.

"This sword… I've never seen this kind of thing before." Croire remained spectacled as she hovered around him.

"Beats me. How is Accord being the benefactor to the Militia of all this?" Evan places his hand onto his forehead as he tries to think for a moment. "None of this makes sense to me."

"What is?" Kairi asked him.

"I dunno. Perhaps that's what it's meant to be." Evan replied as he shook his head to snap out of it until…

"Hey, Evan. It's done. It's pretty sharp and good as new. That reminds me. Did you ever think of naming this sword of yours? It looks like it came straight out of some post-apocalyptic film." Diego wondered to ask him about it as he took the sword from his hand and put it on his back, now having two weapons to adjust his swordplay freely. So, he spoke.

"I call it the Wasteland Rebel. Remember that." Evan replied to him until the alarm went off as it took everyone's attention.

"Attention, all Militia forces. YoRHa Androids have approached our area in attempts to invade our settlements. Any available Militia soldiers are to come outside and defend our settlement by any means necessary. I repeat." The announcer spoke through the speaker system to notify everyone including Evan.

"Well, it seems those assholes are here. Put your blades to good use and kick their asses. Hopefully, you can avenge my little brother who got killed by them." Diego asked him as Evan was curious to know.

"May I ask who killed your little brother? You'll need to be more specific." Evan asked him.

"That one motherfucker who has white hair, male android body with black uniform, wears a blindfold and looks young… He stabbed my little brother and left when I saw it before my eyes before he and his cronies set fire to the Post Office Building in Midtown Manhattan… So get out there and kill him for me, yeah?" Diego explained the details as he nodded.

"Will do." Evan replied as he left the lobby and headed outside of the settlement with Croire and Kairi as they saw a line of Militia soldiers standing their grounds with their firearms ready. Commander Traydor was seen wearing his heavy armor made from parts of YoRHa androids and iron plates while wielding a warhammer that is also made out of YoRHa parts. "Commander. The hell's going on?"

"You're right on time, Evan. Seems one of the scanner type androids found out the location after so many attempts to hide away from them. Seems the jammer didn't work after all…" Traydor continued as he looked at Kairi. "I expect her to kill her own kind."

"Whatever…" Kairi replied in annoyance as she grabbed her sword out.

"I gotta say… Diego sure did give you a nice blade. What are you going to do with it?" Traydor asked him as Evan grabbed out the Blade of Bondage and held it with both hands.

"Kill them." Evan answered as the commander had a smile on his face.

"That's a spirit, boy. Looks like they've arrived. Including the one who's leading the charge…" Traydor continued. "Everyone! Raise your weapons! Take aim! FIRE!"

The soldiers then took aim and fired their M4A1s and AK-47s as the hail of bullets were flying towards the marching androids who had swords and were equipped with armor as they started to run towards them. However, the androids were getting killed by the rain of bullets while most kept going until one android reaches towards the soldier as it ready it's blade and slashed his body in half as blood spurts everywhere until Traydor slammed his hammer on the android as it's head was crushed to pieces.

"Tch… Everyone! Don't give up! Attack! Make way for the rookie Evan Kelso!" Traydor yelled as Even rushed into the battle with Kairi as they started fighting with the legion of androids.

Evan swung his new sword as he cleared out three androids as their torsos were cut in half on top as fake blood spurts out from them. He took a quick look at the blade now covered in fake bloodstain as he whistled. He looked at Kairi as she was seen fighting all by herself as her specialty. Yet, she's exceptionally good in that type of combat despite her fighting style being very ruthless.

"Are you done looking?" Croire asked him.

"Just about done, Croire." Evan said as he continued on the fight as he slashed the android behind him as the blade was thrusted to the neck when he pulled it away from him. Meanwhile, Traydor was seen fighting against the androids on his own but none of their blades couldn't penetrate his armor.

"Hah! You think your feeble blade can penetrate my strongest armor I've made? What a… JOKE!" Traydor then swung his hammer in a wide attack as he gathered up a few androids as they were slammed into a spiked wall as they were impaled right next to the gate. Evan was surprised that he's pretty much strong at the point, knowing that Traydor had killed a lot of them and is considered as Militia's war hero.

"Now I'm just getting jealous… Croire!" Evan commanded Croire as he conjured three Dark Lances when he saw a particular android inside of a black YoRHa flight unit as he hurled it towards it. But the flight unit dodges two but the third manages to hit the wing as it becomes unable, causing it to fall down and crash on the ground, causing an explosion as he covers his face from the blast. However, an android comes out of the smouldering smoke as Evan noticed that Diego mentioned the person he was looking for.

"I'm surprised that you managed to knock down my flight unit with that book of yours." The android spoke as he slowly approached him with his own sword with a blade of a katana that is gold-like, and the rest is black with the white cloth attached on the end of the handle. However, he has a black pod as well.

"I don't need your compliment, android. You must be Diego's little brother's killer when you invaded the Post Office. Am I right?" Evan said to him as he thought.

"Hmm… Perhaps so. And what if I am?" The male android asked as Evan grabbed out his Wasteland Rebel.

"Then I'll avenge his little brother on my behalf." Evan prepared his stance as the android smiles as he readies himself.

"Then so be it. I'll be finished with you before you know it. Pod." The male android commands his pod as he rushes into action.

"Affirmative." The pod of a female voice spoke as it fired a laser at Evan but he dodged it. The two later engage in a violent clash.

Evan had a serious look as he tried to be unorthodox as he swung his sword to his left but faked it out and turned to the right as the android reacted late as his blade collided once again but this time. It pushed the android back as he regained his composure. The rookie of the Militia continues to rush into action as he uses Croire to fire consecutive blasts towards him as the android's Pod returns fire with bullets as both projectiles collide. Both once again trade attacks until Evan played dirty as he kicked him in his stomach and went for a downward slash until the android nearly dodged it… but his blindfold was cut in half. Yet, he was impressed by his skills.

"I must say… For a human like you, you're pretty impressive. Perhaps I should introduce myself." The android continued as he spoke. "I am YoRHa No. 9 Type-S. Otherwise I go by 9S. May I ask your name?"

"Evan Kelso…" Evan said his name as 9S begins to think.

"Evan… Evan… I see. Evan Kelso. I don't know how to say thank you since we first met in a fight like this. However, I'm only programmed to scan areas and hack things. And sadly, I might as well kill you right on the spot. After all, Humans are indeed frail and vulnerable when it comes to things like that." 9S said in an apologetic manner as he readied his sword on his hand.

"Fat chance. I'll be the one who'll kill your dog ass." Evan replied as the two prepared once again.

Meanwhile, Traydor was seen smashing up more androids as he was getting a bit tired after the whole army just kept coming. However, one of Traydor's men arrives with a grenade launcher with something inside.

"Sir! Should we launch the EMP?" The soldier asked him.

"No… We can only use the EMP if they breach our defenses so get back!" Traydor continued. "Damn it… I don't think I can continue like this…"

"But sir, the EMP-" The soldier tried to speak as Traydor stopped him.

"I said no! So get back and hold the line!" Traydor yelled as the soldier complied as he was forced to head back. He then looked at Evan fighting against 9S as the two were still clashing when he saw it from afar. "You better win this fight, rookie…"

Back in the fight where Evan tries to keep up as he tries to defend himself as he struggles a bit. Yet, he tried to keep his composure until 9S finally went for a final blow to break his guard. He swung up his blade as it completely broke his Wasteland Rebel as it was destroyed in half. Sadly, it was beyond repair. The piece of the blade flew and landed on the ground as it was stabbed there. Evan stumbled and nearly fell but he regained his footing.

"Damn it… You may have destroyed my favorite sword… But you left me no choice… to use my secret technique that you've never heard of…" Evan said with a serious look as 9S remained skeptical…

"Oh? Do tell me." 9S asked him as Evan took a deep breath once as he was ready to do something…

"KAIRI!" Evan yelled as his android companion arrived in the action as she clashed blades with the Scanner-type android.

"Geez, now you're calling for me now? I thought you could take him on…?" Kairi asked him as Evan was seen collecting the broken pieces of his Wasteland Rebel.

"Hey, he broke my blade. Blame him. Not me." Evan replied in an annoyed manner since he was going to sit this one out. "Do me a favor and fight that guy for me? I'll devise a plan."

"Fine, but don't thinking if you plan something stupid." Kairi then clashed with the scanner as he responded.

"You seem familiar… yet different… Are you-" 9S was interrupted.

"Shut it, dipshit! The last thing I wanna think about is killing you and pissing on your grave!" Kairi yelled with anger as she went on a fury as Evan was seen devising a plan as Croire looked at him.

"Hey, Evan. What are you doing? With Kairi fighting her… I just don't understand at all. I just hope for what plan you've come up with." Croire panically asked him about it as grabbed out a grenade-like item that had blue glowing outlines.

"Don't worry. I know the Summit has one of the best EMPs that is designed to weaken YoRHas. Once Kairi pressures him. I should get in and try to do something with it. Trust me on this. It'll be risky… but I'll end this right here and right now." Evan said as he used his Blade of Bondage and held it on his right hand while holding a EMP Grenade on his left hand. "Alright… Kairi! Trust me on this!"

Kairi listens thanks to her enhanced hearing as an android as Evan uses Croire as he conjures a dark lance while Croire's pages begin to flip very fast. However, he had to think about nor making the lance look big… but to convert it into something sharp and barely thin. He uses right hand while holding his blade. 9S was too busy fighting Kairi while Evan continued to struggle on mastering Croire. But, he continues to grip his sword tightly and has a meaner look. However, he tries to project something into a sword and struggles to do so until he manages to flatten the spear as it takes the form of a large sword. He was pleased with the outcome as Kairi was behind him while fighting 9S until he shouted.

"Kairi! I suggest you step aside!" Evan yelled as he threw the Dark Sword like a speeding bullet as it was flying towards them as Kairi reacted with a dodge to her right as 9S didn't have time to react as his right arm was cut off as it started to bleed while his sword was dropped on the ground.

The android felt agony as it did hurt that bad until Evan rushed in as he used his sword to lightly cut open his torso and grab out the EMP and place it in his chest as Evan kicked him back as it was beginning to detonate. After a few seconds when 9S looked below to see an EMP grenade stuck in his torso… it exploded on him, weakening him in the process and most likely corrupted his vision. It was not over as Evan needed to do one more thing… to kill him in order to avenge.

"It's over, 9S. I've won this fight…" Evan continued as he grabbed 9S' sword from the ground when he picked it up as he intended to kill him with it. "Now, I'll complete what I must."

"Thinking killing me would avenge someone you don't know!?" 9S spat as he remained silent.

"Doesn't matter. I have a purpose now… to kill all androids and rid them from this Earth. The war won't end, of course. But, I'll make sure you'll suffer greatly just like the rest you've killed at the post office." Evan responded as he looked at him of his angryness, the agony, the hatred. It was seething with malice.

"Go ahead… Kill me… I'll keep coming back as long as my data is kept within the Bunker on the Moon… I'll come after you… and hunt you down myself!" 9S said as he had his last laugh as Evan could feel hatred towards him.

"I don't care… Hate me all you want. But you androids started this war. Once you're reconstructed on the Moon. Tell your leader this: We're taking this planet back and end this nightmare once and for all! NOW DIE!" Evan swung down his new sword since his previous one was destroyed as he brutally kills the android body repeatedly over and over. Croire and Kairi remained silent watching him letting out his anger towards the now dead body of 9S. "DIE! DIE! DIE! I'LL KILL YOU ALL! RAAAAAAAAHHHHH!"

Evan continues slashing, stabbing, and smashing him with the sword as the fake blood continues to spew all over him as he continues attacking him all over the body parts. Yet, he was yelling in rage just to throw a fit. The body was chopped up and mutilated in the process as Traydor arrived to stop him.

"Evan! Stop this! You're going out of control! You did what had to be done!" Traydor then grabbed him by his shoulder as he finally stopped… he finally avenged Diego's little brother…

"I'm… I'm sorry… I… I just had to do it… I can't…" Evan was a bit shaken as Traydor shook his head.

"Look, rookie. You did what had to be done. We defeated most of the invading forces but… I fear they'll come back as long the Bunker on the Moon rebuilds them. Chances of survival will be zero. And… get some rest, will you?" Traydor said as Evan took a deep breath and calmed down.

"Y-Yes, sir…" Evan replied.

"One more thing." Traydor continued as he grabbed something hidden from 9S' mutilated body as it appears to be a black cube. "YoRHa androids usually have black boxes as their source of power according to some dead scientists from Kyrielight Robotics. The problem is… it's extremely impossible to get into their source code and know about it's information. However… I want to give you a mission. Find the man who used to work at Kyrielight by the name of Arin Vaneborough. Rumors say that he's still alive somewhere within New York. But he's an expert on knowing about black boxes. Reports say that he's been taken hostage by YoRHa forces at the Madison Square Garden in the Midtown Manhattan sector. Dunno what they'll do with him but… You'll head there tomorrow. Is that understood?"

"Understood. I'll go take a rest just like you asked… Kairi, let's go. I… I feel like shit." Evan said as Kairi followed him. Though, she was surprised that Evan had some anger issues here and there.

"Holy fuck, kid… You were crazy when you started killing him brutally. Are you alright?" Kairi asked him as he nodded.

"I'm good… It's just that… These androids… They're not going to stop until they wipe out all of humanity. Now that I own his sword now because I killed him. I managed to avenge Diego's little brother's death. I just need to update him on the situation." Evan said as he decided to head back inside the building's lobby as Kairi replied silent but calm. She never knew humans like Evan could have so much hatred against YoRHas. "So yeah… There's much work to be done."

Though, they all remained silent. But so far as of currently… 9S was killed by the hands of Evan as he told Diego the situation. He was relieved that his little brother is finally avenged so that he can finally move on, owing Evan his debt and gratitude. Traydor sighed in the process knowing that it has been a mess but they managed to survive the first wave of androids. He looked up at the sky which was still clouded. He wouldn't know if the moon is still visible in the sky, even at night. But in Evan's mind… He remains careful of having Kairi as his ally but isn't ready to reveal the truth yet. But within his mind. His only objective is to destroy all androids no matter the cost. Even by means to go that far to save humanity from it's impending demise. And as for war… it never changes.

I dream of a bird, flying through the sky.

Yet, I can never be free from this cage.

They laugh at me no matter how much I believed.

Can they ever forgive me as a human being?

Author's Notes: Hello, everyone. Thank you for reading my first NieR story that I've been wanting to do for a year now. But since the release of the remastered NieR Replicant. I managed to have that sort of motivation again. Now, I know what you are thinking… "B-But, this doesn't follow up at all!" Look, I get it. I wanted to try creating my own timeline that disconnects itself from the original timeline. So, I wanted to tackle this challenge with the themes of desperation and liberation. And even focuses on the protagonist's struggles and the malice that humans have. So yeah, I want to be very transparent on this one. I'll try to work on the next chapter if I feel like it or it somehow gets enough support from readers like you. Making a well-constructed story isn't easy. I did my best and I hope you'll understand. It doesn't mean I'm quitting. I got the biggest story projects (only one) on the way but I can't reveal the details. I know I'll expect some criticisms here and there, telling me the flaws and how I should fix it. But again, I'm very unsure if I want to continue this story based on the reader's reception or support. Now then, before I go. Here is the "New" Timeline that I have laid out and it will be completely different from the original. And about the WCS from the original timeline? That's there but it's different and weak. Plus, I'll include some weapon lores that were introduced in the first chapter. Until then, Switch on your Youth.

[The Timeline of RESURGENCE]

[Year 2003/2009 - The Beginning]

September 11, 2003 - The giant white flower and a dragon appeared in the city of Tokyo from the sky. The flower crumbles, causing some casualties in the city. The dragon was shot down by an unsuspecting JASDF fighter pilot as the dragon's corpse fell and impaled on the Tokyo Tower.

September 13, 2003 - Most areas in Tokyo were closed off due to a new mysterious disease caused from the flower that somehow turned the infected into salt. That was known as the White Chlorination Syndrome. Ultimately causing the closure of more areas within Tokyo as it was soon becoming inhabitable in the process.

December 1, 2003 - The WCS didn't spread throughout the world but in Tokyo but soon spread throughout Japan. The Prime Minister has announced to initiate a project through the combination of magic that came from the flower and Japan's state of the art technology known as Project Hope.

May 4, 2009 - Project Hope was completed, revealed to be a large magic barrier capable enough to cover all of Japan as the WCS continues to spread and infect the population. Thus, the project became a success but came with a heavy price. The WCS was completely walled in by the barrier to prevent the spread throughout the world. However, their population was reduced by 70% as the rest were turned into salt while the remaining Japanese population took refuge underground.

August 13, 2009 - The mining team of Antarctica have discovered a mysterious Black Cube. Trent Kyrelight, a member of the team has discovered on his own but has gone AWOL in the process. At the same time, the UN has announced their plans to help the Japanese survivors who are trapped within the barrier.

August 21, 2009 - Operation Bristleback was initiated in order to rescue the population who are trapped within the barrier in Japan. However, the barrier is apparently one-way only for those who enter inside and cannot leave. The rest of the naval UN team became missing in the process because of the WCS that is still contained there. Realizing that the operation is a failure that cost them far too many.

[Year 2010/2060 - The Six Decade Android War]

February 8, 2010 - Kyrelight Robotics, founded back in 2006 in New York have created their next generation androids that will help serve humanity known as YoRHa thanks to the American Government's involvement and funding for the project. Making America the number one lead of advanced technology.

February 10, 2010 - Kyrelight Robotics CEO, Trent Kyrelight was killed by the first YoRHa Commander Unit known as White. Thus, she has led the charge and declared war across the globe. Sadly, Kirelight Robotics were reduced into nothingness.

February 11, 2010 - YoRHa had stationed themselves on the moon as their own base of operation under the name, "The Bunker".

February 12, 2010 - The American military have begun their attack against the invading YoRHa units in New York but they are quickly overwhelmed by YoRHa's advanced technology. Soon, the rest of the nations followed soon after.

February 16, 2010 - Eastern Asian nations quickly fell and faced total decimation in the process because of YoRHa's dreadful might, reducing the population into completely nothing.

March 21, 2012 - The United Kingdom had suffered mass casualty. However, they were forced to surrender to YoRHa. The survivors were either forced into hiding as resistance groups were made while others were forced into labor for the Android's favor. But, rumors spread that the humans were also being converted into YoRHa androids designed for battle.

June 7, 2015 - Russia has begun developing their own technology using the salvaged tech from YoRHa that they have defeated and used it against them. The fate remained unknown as they continued on fighting. Meanwhile in the US, they continued fighting on with the same YoRHa tech they were using against them.

November 10, 2020 - The United Nations has announced the Joint Task Force with a aim to eradicate all YoRHa forces known as the Armistice with surviving nations all over the world consisting of US, Russia, France, Germany, China, and Italy to fight back in order to take back UK from the androids.

January 1, 2021 - Operation Breakpoint begins as the Armistice forces begin retaking London. But it proved no use as the YoRHa began overpowering them. Ultimately, YoRHa had smuggled White Phosphorus and used it against them. Killing the rest of the forces as the operation became a failure.

February 17, 2047 - YoRHa Android A2 is on a run after she was branded a traitor by her own kind after her mission in Lower Manhattan went wrong that led her squadron to be killed by the humans. She mysteriously deactivated until she was delivered by the mysterious men of Austin Dynamics to Rikers Island for research. However, she still remains deactivated after Rikers was invaded by the Androids.

June 7, 2053 - Signs of life in Japan still exist as they continue to live underground. The WCS is still contained within the magic barrier but they are unable to go outside. However, people using gas masks were somehow effective but mysterious undead creatures made out of salt and flesh known as Besalted still lurk around the snowy winters of Tokyo. A white-haired man who tried to protect her daughter in an abandoned supermarket but ends up succumbing to the WCS and turning to salt.

October 16, 2055 - As the United States and Russia were the remaining superpowers still fending off the threat but are on a verge of defeat. The other European nations soon fell into YoRHa's control as the population there dwindles in hiding. During the verge of defeat, a new resistance group known as the Militia Force was formed in case their country lost the battle.

March 8, 2057 - The WCS has diminished completely as it finally died out after so many decades. However, the population within Japan is still trapped within their own barrier. But they were able to come out back on the surface but have divided themselves into various factions, vying for control of resources left within all of Japan. While the rest are living in skyscrapers and rooftops, still desperate in order to survive. The Japan branch of the Militia Force was formed. But the Besalted still roam around, killing many people whenever they come across.

July 4, 2059 - Second YoRHa commander unit known as Tetra was made after White was suddenly gone. Her fate remains unknown.

December 31, 2060 - Both the United States and Russia had fallen and suffered too many losses caused by YoRHa's ever evolving tactics. Thus, YoRHa was ultimately declared the winner of the war that lasted over 6 decades as a result. However, the American Militia Force began their resistance against them despite the war ending in utter defeat.

[Year 2061/2078 - The Aftermath]

January 13, 2061 - After the war, YoRHa enslaved the world and the population of humanity on Earth was reduced to 50% after the war. They survived but were forced to live by the rules and do labor work for them with their simple rules of freedom were stripped away. The United States becomes the last surviving state under the Militia's control in New York as they change up their tactics to strike from the shadows and salvage the remains while protecting their people for those they cherish.

June 11, 2078 - Evan Kelso joins the Militia Force in New York but ends up reactivating an android who is now called Kairi.
