The entire precinct was in shambles, the floor covered in broken glass. It was in the middle of the floor that stood three angels ready to fight. Lucifer and Amenadiel snarled, just waiting for Michael to try something. Michael unfurled his wings before launching himself at them. It was then that the celestial siblings were interrupted by a blinding light coming from the middle of the precinct. It was the booming voice that stopped them all in their tracks.
"That's enough!"
"Dad?"
"Children. You know I hate it when you fight."
"Father. You're here," Amenadiel stated, clearly in shock.
"What are you doing here Father?" Lucifer asked, voice laced with anger.
"Now Samael, can't a Father come and visit his sons?"
"You're a few thousand millennia too late. Besides, it's not Samael anymore," Lucifer replied coldly.
Nothing hurt more than someone referring to him as Samael. Yes, he was the Lightbringer but that wasn't who he was anymore. He was Lucifer Morningstar for bloody sake! He fulfilled favors and brought out people's greatest desires. Yet, his father had the audacity to stand there and act as if nothing had happened. His father had done all of these things for humanity and what did Lucifer get? He gets cast out for rebelling and wanting a little bit of freedom. The fall to Earth was painful yet freeing at the same time. For the first time, he could do whatever he wanted. He didn't have to answer to anyone.
He had moved on and never cast Heaven and Hell another thought. That was until his father had decided to drop in. Now all the memories came rushing back. They played in Lucifer's mind like his own personal hell loop.
"What's that son?" God asked, making sure he heard him correctly.
"It's not Samael anymore. It's Lucifer, Lucifer Morningstar."
"You'll always be Samael. You are the Lightbringer after all," God said, clearly not hearing a word he said.
"I stopped being the Lightbringer the moment you kicked me out of Heaven."
"Now Samael, there's no reason to bring up the past. Besides, there is more pressing matters at hand. What on Earth is all this fighting about?"
"Michael impersonated me in an attempt to take over my life. He then proceeded to kidnap the Detective and hold her captive in an underground zoo. Then, he promised Mazikeen a soul which we all know is ludicrous."
"Son, is this true?" God asked, turning to face Michael.
"Yes, he has always thought he was better than me."
"Well, I am the Devil and the Devil never lies," Lucifer replied calmly.
"Perhaps we should all just take a minute," Amenadiel offered, stepping in before it could escalate any further. "Now Father, how about you come over to Linda's place for dinner? You can finally meet our son Charlie."
"That's an excellent idea son! In fact, why don't we make it a family affair? Samael and Michael can come as well. Samael, you can invite your Detective.
"It's Lucifer and why bloody not? One big happy freakin' family," he replied through clenched teeth.
Several hours later, Lucifer and Chloe were standing in front of Linda's house. Lucifer had sworn up and down that she didn't have to come along. Needless to say, she had insisted on coming along. She refused to let him deal with his father and Michael by himself. They were partners and that meant sticking by each other's side no matter what.
He hated that his father felt that he could just insert himself back into his life like this. It was bad enough that his Father felt the need to manipulate him for so long. It was another thing to bring his Detective into this. Now he showed up after all this time and tried to play father. He was mistaken if he thought for one minute that he would fall for it.
"Detective, I can't believe I let you talk me into this," Lucifer stated, taking another swig from his flask.
"We'll stay for half an hour, an hour tops. I'll be here the whole time," Chloe assured him.
"I'd honestly rather not subject you to anymore of my family's celestial craziness."
"Lucifer, I love you. We are partners and that means sticking by each other no matter what."
"Detective, I lo-" Lucifer started, only to be interrupted by Linda opening the door.
"Oh good, I thought I heard you guys. Come on in."
They headed into the dining room where Amenadiel, Michael, and God were already sitting.
"Oh my God. I mean, You," Linda replied awkwardly. "I mean when did you get here?"
"Father arrived a moment ago."
"Perks of having wings, you can travel anywhere quickly."
"Yes of course. That's completely normal."
Once everyone was situated, God took it upon himself to make everyone hold hands and say grace. As if the night wasn't ludicrous enough, now he had to praise and say thanks for his Father. Lucifer couldn't help but scoff at the idea. Nonetheless, he takes the Detective's hand in his and Dr. Linda's in the other. He refused to sit next to Michael and he certainly wasn't sitting next to his father.
"Let's dig in," God proclaimed before helping himself to a plate.
"So Detective Chloe, what exactly do you see in my brother?"
"Bloody hell, here we go again," Lucifer muttered under his breath.
"Lucifer is an amazing man. He is the best partner I've ever had and what we have is incredible."
"Did you know he killed our brother Uriel?"
"That was to protect Mum and the Detective," Lucifer said, eyes blazing red.
"Now Michael, Samael is well aware of his mistakes. There is no need to bring that up again."
"You are a terrible father. Respectfully," Chloe interjected.
"I beg your pardon?"
"I said you're a terrible father. You kicked out your own son and abandoned him for thousands of millennia. Not to mention, you forced a job on him that he never even wanted in the first place."
"I'm sorry to interrupt but where's Lucifer?" Linda asked, looking around the room.
Chloe turned to notice Lucifer's seat lacking her devilishly handsome boyfriend. He must have run off in the middle of her telling his dad off. She was pretty sure that she knew where he had gone. There was only one way to find out. She thanked Amenadiel and Linda for the interesting for lack of a better word dinner. She then took off in her car in the direction of Lux.
Twenty minutes later, she pulled into the parking garage and parked in her spot. Lucifer had reserved it just for her. She had insisted that she didn't need her own spot but he insisted. She gave up but it was nights like this that she was especially grateful for it. It doesn't take her long to find him in the middle of club. He's busy playing the piano like a madman, fingers flying across the keys. It's more chaotic than anything he usually plays and yet it's still beautiful.
The crowd is clearly into it, as they clap and cheer, all while toasting him with their drinks. She doesn't even want to think about how many drinks are in him at this point. There's no doubt in her mind that she would smell whiskey and smoke on his breath. She waited until he noticed her. It never takes him long. He continued to play, giving her a smile upon noticing her presence. She tends to have that effect on him. She offered one back and waited for him to finish.
"Darling, care to join the party?"
"Lucifer, I get why you ran away," Chloe replied, basically shouting in order to be heard over the music.
"Ah well, I doubt it but I appreciate the sentiment. Now care for a drink? Bloody hell knows I need one."
"I think we need to talk, upstairs," Chloe said.
"Lead the way Detective," Lucifer offered as he followed her to the elevator.
The ride up in the elevator was completely silent minus the sound of Lucifer grumbling under his breath. Chloe could tell it was about his family. What else could it be? She headed over to the couch before changing her mind and walked over to the piano. She knows the piano is one of the places where he feels most comfortable. She sat on the bench and waited for him to join her. It's after he sits down that she speaks again.
"We've had a lot of important moments at this piano. So I figured why not talk here?"
"You are truly incredible Detective," Lucifer admitted, unable to keep it to himself.
"We're incredible. I'm sorry about your father and Michael."
"They weren't wrong though. I shouldn't have left the way I did. It wasn't fair to you," Lucifer admitted.
"You had every reason to react the way you did tonight. I know it's hard for you to talk about how you feel but you have to know that they're wrong."
"All they did was tell the truth. I did kill Uriel but it was to protect you and my mum. He was going to kill you both. All I do is make mistakes and let you get caught in the crosshairs."
"Lucifer Morningstar, you are the most incredible man I have ever met. What we have is incredible. I love you and I'm not going anywhere," Chloe said, frowning slightly at his harsh words toward himself.
"Detective, I need to tell you something. I tried to tell you in the evidence room but my family got in the way. I never want you to doubt my feelings for you. You are and always have been my first love. I love you. I think I always have and I always will."
"I love you too," she replied before cupping his face and kissing him.
He kisses her back before he closes his eyes and all thoughts are on her.
His family may never be normal or constant but that was okay. He knew one thing that was always constant in his life. She was the one thing in his life that would always be constant. There was one other thing that he was sure of. Home wasn't Lux or Los Angeles. It was right here with her.
