So… I know I said I would only post another story once I'd finished with The Plains, but I felt I had to do this, okay?
I just had to.
Also, the description of Zombieman's weapons are from the One Punch Man wiki – I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to identifying guns.
Chapter 1 – In the City
"Damn it. I'd had that arm three months, now."
Zombieman, the Class-S hero, regarded the bloody stump of his left elbow with a frown. Everything beyond said elbow was now gone; chomped off and eaten by the dead monster sprawled on the street before him. Even so, Zombieman could already feel his arm beginning to grow back – a little slowly at first, but then faster until he had a left hand again. Now that it was back, he reached towards the dead monster with it and yanked one of his axes out of its head, only to be splattered with a last spurt of blood in the process.
Blood, he didn't mind. Blood, he could handle. The same applied to most monsters, too, he supposed.
The few people who hadn't run off screaming as soon as the monster had shown up now began to cheer after cautiously emerging from their hiding.
"Yeah!"
"You're the best, Zombieman!"
"Ha – you showed that monster!"
And speaking of monsters…
A building behind him exploded outwards in a shower of debris and dust, prompting screams from the remaining people as they cowered away. Zombieman spun around in time to see two people who had most likely been standing too close to the building sent sprawling. He cursed under his breath. Today really wasn't his day. The monster loomed into view and the few remaining people scattered.
The monster was a large, stone golem-looking thing. It had a squat head that sat low on its oversized shoulders. Its small eyes were set far back into its head and glowed a sickly green. On its shoulders were carved strange, glowing symbols. It was taller than a person – standing at about eight feet. Moss clung to its bulky, disproportionate body and limbs and smaller rocks dropped off it as it turned to face the hero.
"And who are you supposed to be?" It asked him disdainfully.
"I'm the Class-S hero, Zombieman," he answered. "For a pile of rocks, you've got a lot more attitude than some people I know."
The monster didn't seem to take kindly to being called "a pile of rocks." Its expression turned downwards into a frown and its eyes narrowed, the green light instead turning yellow and then orange.
"Who do you think you are, human?" It growled.
"Doesn't matter," Zombieman responded.
He unholstered his signature handgun, a black Desert Eagle that had the number '66' engraved onto the right side of the gun's frame. It was in his hand in a matter of seconds – just as the monster swung a hammer-like fist at him. He rolled under the limb and pulled the trigger, scoring four direct hits to the side of its head. The monster stumbled in distraction and immediately, Zombieman began his onslaught – he swung one of his axes in a wide arc, cleaving chunks of rock from the arm it held up to shield it face.
The hero didn't stop there. He didn't allow the golem a moment's respite; hacking away at its arm until it detached with a loud crack and a good swing bit deep into its middle.
But then the monster whipped around its good hand and slammed it into Zombieman's chest. It was like being hit by a speeding truck, and the force of the blow threw him through a lamppost before Zombieman himself crunched into the wall behind it.
"Enough of this!"
It roared in anger before proceeding to bury its good hand in the ground. And then it started drawing the road into itself, all the while growing taller and taller until it was towering over a two-storied building. Zombieman craned his neck up, conscious all the while of his spine mending itself and his ribs knitting back together.
"Any last words, hero?" It sneered to Zombieman as it loomed over him.
"None that I can think of," he shrugged nonchalantly.
"Very well; now prepare to d - "
The golem broke off abruptly as a fireball burst against its head, singing some of the moss that clung there.
"Hey, you!"
"What is this?" The golem demanded.
It pivoting in the direction of the noise, clearly confused. As it did, another fireball burst in its face – earning a growl of annoyance from it.
"Hey, you lumbering, lousy excuse of a cliff!" Yelled the same voice again.
Zombieman managed to look around the golem and was surprised – and a little concerned – to spot a young, black-haired, barefoot girl wearing a green and yellow dress standing directly in the path of the monster. To Zombieman, she looked about eleven or twelve years old and some of her hair hung in a fringe obscuring her eyes while the rest was tied in a bun at the back of her head. She was pointing an accusing finger at the monster, her other hand remained by her side.
"Do you have a death wish, child?" It ground out, bending over so its head was in level with the girl.
"I don't," said the girl with an impressive sneer for someone her age. "Do you?"
"Rrrgh…! Why you miserable little girl!" It snarled, "Do you not know who you're dealing with?! I am a mighty being! The leveler of mountains! The bone-crusher! I am powerful; I am fearsome! I am - -!?"
"I. Don't. Care."
The girl cut off the golem by plunging her hand into its face, and it roared in shock. She then proceeded to slam its head into the ground while Zombieman watched, his face impassive but still he wondered who this girl was. He then noticed another girl; this one was older and dressed completely in black clothes and wearing a black coat. She advanced stealthily from behind the golem and snapped the fingers on her right hand. The sparks that appeared immediately caught and soon there was a small fire blazing in her hand.
Just who were these two, anyway?
Alright! And that's Chapter 1 finished!
I made a few changes, though, to the second monster that appears; originally it was going to be smaller and have a head that looked – and I quote – "like a mountain".
But then I figured it would end up being too similar to the monster Gigakigan from the bonus manga 'Tornado's Day Off', so I changed it round a bit.
