I do not own any American Gothic characters, this is a work of fan fiction. This story is a continuation of my previous stories and follows on from The Trains Keep Running.
It was a dull rainy afternoon in Trinity South Carolina, thick clouds populated the sky and the fine rain drenched any resident caught out in the prolonged downpour.
Selena Coombs sat back in the comfortable leather chair that she was currently situated in, glancing around the large office admiringly. Apart from one picture of his family, Bob kept his office strictly professional and his professional integrity made her current position even more enjoyable.
Bob ran his hands up Selena's smooth tanned legs appreciatively and continued teasing her with his tongue. He had a backlog of cases and was also due to meet his estranged Wife to discuss the needs of their children; however, this exotic woman had a way of making him forget about everything else but her and he still could not believe that she was his girlfriend.
Selena let out a small moan as he ran his lips between her legs and began sucking. It was out of character for her to allow her attention to remain with one man for so long, disregarding Billy Peele and Lucas Buck; therefore, she ensured that Bob's attention was solely on her and would not give in to what he craved so easily like she had in the past, without him satisfying her first.
Gail Buck walked casually through the Town Hall on her way to check in on the Mayor, knowing that her Husband had not been including him in the official business of his so called men's society like he should; however, when her senses picked up on her friend, she smiled mischievously and decided to take a detour from her tedious task.
Selena closed her eyes at the small bursts of pleasure that were flowing through her, this act was taking much longer for Bob to complete than she had initially anticipated and she craved something strong for her release.
Gail knocked gently on the door and waited patiently, sensing her friends current frustration and struggle to get what she needed. She knew how hard it was for Selena to remain with only one man and finally start earning some respect for herself; therefore, she was happy to provide a little extra push to enable Selena to get what she required.
Bob froze at the sound of the quiet knock in horror, then pulled away from Selena instinctively and went to stand up, ignoring her disappointed moan.
'Seriously? That's all it takes for the power to be taken away from you? What have you become?' Gail laughed quietly, projecting the words into Selena's mind.
Selena felt herself become angry at Bob's dismissal of her control, then felt something dark surge through her and gripped the back of his head tight, pushing his face between her legs. Bob stared at her confused for a moment, confused by her actions and went to insert his dominance.
'Were you done?' Gail goaded, giving Selena the strength she needed to overpower her struggling boyfriend.
'I'm not done' Selena said sternly, savouring the darkness flowing through her veins and letting out a loud moan when Bob obediently started to continue where he had left off.
'That's my girl...if you want it just take it, you know better than to let a man dictate the pace' Gail smiled, knowing Selena could still hear everything that she said.
Selena felt a strange proudness at the acceptance of her friend and gripped Bob's head tighter, making him devour her more forcefully. Bob began to bite and suck her more vigorously, not wanting to disappoint her and gripped her behind hard when she violently unravelled for him.
Selena let out a loud moan and took in a deep breath, then pushed him away from her and smoothed down her skirt before exiting the office, leaving him without saying a word.
Gail smiled mischievously and linked her arm around Selena's, then they both began laughing at poor Bob left having no clue what had just happened as they walked down the quiet corridor to the main hall.
'Is it really that much work to get what you want?' Gail asked curiously, as she glanced around the large room to regain her bearings.
'Well not all of us women are lucky enough to have the talented Lucas Buck willing to satisfy our every desire' Selena mocked, attempting to hide the slight bitterness from her tone.
Gail sensed her true feelings and could not contain her laughter. 'It seems like all you women need to stop settling and take charge of what you really want' she responded amused, not fazed by the jealousy radiating off of her present company.
Before Selena had a chance to counter the remark, she spotted the handsome Mayor walking towards them and smiled appreciatively at him. 'Good Afternoon Mayor, what a pleasant sight to brighten my day' she said sweetly.
'I thought Bob had just brightened your day with his lips, the poor fool doesn't stand a chance' Gail mocked her friends blatant false persona, then laughed and turned towards Adam when Selena shot her a moody look.
Adam regarded the woman cautiously for a moment, not used to seeing them out in the day so openly together, then smiled warmly when they appeared in good spirits. 'This is a pleasant surprise. Not only am I greeted by the lovely Miss Coombs, the illustrious Gail Buck has finally graced me with her presence' he said charmingly, not used to an impromptu visit from the woman who goaded him into running for Mayor.
Gail rolled her eyes at the comment and shook her head in mock disapproval. 'You boy's believe that we can be won over so easily by some simple pleasantries, how little you must truly think of us' she responded sarcastically, wondering whether he had the stones to take her on.
'Now, now Mrs Buck, I'm not stupid enough to even entertain that comment and I'm certainly not goin' to give you a reason to vent your frustrations on me' Adam advised, holding up his hands in a surrendering gesture.
'Oh and what frustrations would they be?' Gail asked curiously.
Adam smiled at her knowingly and gently took hold of her free arm, leading her out of the building with Selena. 'It ain't my fault you're stuck in that magnificent office of yours day in and day out...that honour goes to your Husband-' he started.
'My Husband who you choose to avoid at every turn and allow to push you out of decisions that should involve you Mayor?' Gail interrupted sweetly, not liking her current predicament being public knowledge.
Adam sensed that he had offended her and ran his hand through his hair in annoyance with himself when they reached her blood red Mustang. 'All I'm sayin' is you need to get at the source of your boredom, not your friends' he advised, not intending to offend her.
'And all I'm saying is start acting like the Mayor you were supposed to be and get back into the game, before other parties push you out for good' Gail snapped more forcefully than she had intended, then signalled for Selena to get into her car and drove off leaving Adam to his own devises.
'That was little harsh' Selena said after a few minutes of silence.
Gail let out a long sigh and shook her head at her overreaction. 'It's just men-' she started in annoyance.
'Can provide all sorts of pleasant feelings, but that's not your problem and you know it' Selena interrupted, not allowing her friend to ignore the obvious.
'And what is my problem Selena? Care to enlighten me?' Gail asked bluntly, trying to stop herself from taking her mood out on her present company.
Selena turned towards her and regarded her cautiously. 'He's right, you're bored and you can't punish the person who got you into your professional situation' she responded frankly, watching her reaction carefully.
Gail inhaled deeply to push down her irritation and let out a small laugh. 'So what? It is what it is and this is my life' she shrugged, still committed to ensuring her menial duties were performed appropriately to keep her family on the right track.
Selena smiled mischievously and placed her hand on Gail's knee. 'It's Saturday, there can't be much news to report on and your children are tucked away safely with that sweet little thing who's pining over Billy...Break free from your chains for a few hours and let's go have some fun' she suggested, still reeling off the dark sensation she had experienced in Bob's office.
Gail shook her head at her inability to play by her own rules and let out a long sigh. 'Fine, let me ditch the car and we'll see where the day takes us' she smiled and headed to her place of work, knowing Lucas would sense instantly if her car was left at their home.
Ben Healy stood quietly watching his boss reviewing the monthly crime reports, attempting to hide his unease. Lucas Buck looked the picture of dominance as he sat behind his large desk, the subtle silver light of the unique art behind him gave him an almost majestic glow and it was hard not to look at him. Ben was used to the air of importance that engulfed his oldest friend; however, it did not stop him from resenting his seemingly perfect life from time to time.
'It's true that I have some remarkable achievements Deputy, but I wouldn't go as far as to label them perfect' Lucas stated casually, sensing Ben's thoughts and amused by his friends opinion of him.
Ben shifted on the spot uncomfortably at the comment and moved his eyes to the corner of the room, not wanting to look at Lucas any longer. 'I don't know what you mea-' he started in his defence.
'Course you do and it's alright, you're officially takin' custody of Ben Jr tomorrow and you can be forgiven for a few unwise thoughts this time' Lucas advised knowingly, not one to take resentment against him lightly; however, understanding that Ben was nervous due to the responsibility that he was taking on.
Ben let out a nervous laugh and shook his head, running his hand through his thinning hair. 'Aww hell Lucas, the boy wants to be with his Momma and I don't wanna force him...You made it look so easy with Caleb!' he exclaimed, feeling his anxiety rising.
Lucas smiled at the comment and pushed the report he was reading to one side, then stood up and regarded Ben amused. It had not been easy with Caleb, when it was clear the boy was unwilling to accept his true parentage Lucas had lucked out with his connection to the boy's Cousin. Although Lucas had not used Gail to obtain Caleb's acceptance of him, it had come naturally after she had given herself over to him. Having such an intelligent woman to mediate and bring them together so effectively, without him having to dominate the situation, meant all parties accepted their roles of their own free will and that was the key to his successful family life.
Lucas knew a lot of Ben's home life and although Rita was a capable Mother, she was not as headstrong as Gail and she lacked the ability to take charge to ensure that all things ran smoothly. It was clear that Ben was struggling with his new required role and Lucas did not envy his position without a sufficient support system in place. 'Look, you need to man up and take charge Ben. That young boy of yours won't fall in line if he senses your weakness as his Father' he advised finally, his amusement turning to frustration when Ben began pacing his office nervously.
'Wow Sheriff, why not tell him how you really feel?' Adam laughed in disbelief of the comment, entering the office uninvited.
Ben glanced at Adam, then froze when he saw the look of anger in Lucas' eyes and felt his resolve failing. 'Come on guys' he sighed finally, wanting the ground to swallow him up to get away from the tension in the office.
Lucas narrowed his eyes at Adam, his dislike for the man clearly visible, then forced a charming smile and nodded to Ben reassuringly when he spotted his concern over how he would react at the intrusion. 'Afternoon Mayor, what's dragged you out of your hidin' hole on this grizzly day' he asked, signalling for Ben to leave them.
Adam forced a pleasant smile and pushed down his disdain for the man, knowing that he was required to perform in a professional manner for the sake of his position. 'Your Wife actually, but I suppose a formal meetin' is long overdue' he shrugged, nodding courteously when Lucas signalled for him to sit down.
Lucas returned to his seated position behind his desk and smiled at the mention of his Wife. 'You had the pleasure of seeing her in that tight little number she's paradin' around in today? That must've been a treat for you' he advised sarcastically, aware of how much Adam tried to hide his true admiration of his Wife.
'I didn't notice-' he started defensively.
'Oh come on-' Lucas interrupted knowingly, leaning back in his chair casually'-I get your commitment to your pretty lady with the family she's given you and all, but we both know how much you covet the affection of my Love and truly I don't care...It's amusin' to watch all you degenerates tryin' to compete for an ounce of her attention, when all she really wants is me' he smiled smugly, watching amused as Adam shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
Adam could not hide his irritation at the accusation; however, he could not honestly deny it. He had become increasingly agitated over the last few months at Gail's lack of presence, when it was her who had convinced him that he should run for Mayor. He had allowed his Wife to take on a business venture in Goat Town, not only to appease Janet but to adhere to Gail's wishes and the woman still barely gave him any of her time.
'My Love is a complex creature, you've gotta have a certain somethin' to peak her interest' Lucas advised, sensing his thoughts.
'And what would that be?' Adam asked abruptly, unable to stop himself.
Lucas stood up from his seated position and moved closer to him, perching on the edge of his desk. 'Vigour, uniqueness, mystery and a whole host of balls' he laughed, revelling in Adam's jealousy.
Adam inhaled deeply in an attempt to keep his composure and let out a small laugh. He had not come here for this and the conversation was getting out of hand.
'What did you come here for if not for your affection of my Wife?' Lucas asked frankly, growing tired of Adam's lack of ability to provide him with a worthy fight.
Adam was taken aback by how well Lucas read him and forced himself to sit up tall. 'You've been makin' decisions without me-' he started.
'Oh so my Love wired you up and sent you my way to blow?' Lucas asked curiously, impressed at how easily she could control their Mayor where he had failed previously.
Adam shook his head defensively and tried to insert his importance. 'Well no, she just-'
'Just whispered in your ear and sent you off without instruction? Wow, she really must be bored' Lucas pondered, knowing his Wife's more domestic tasks were irritating her; however, not realising she was so desperate for a rise that she would send her horse to him like this without a plan.
Adam thought for a moment, then shook his head in exasperation. 'You're as infuriatin' as she is' he snapped, then got up and turned to leave suspecting that he was going to get nowhere here.
Lucas nodded in agreement of the observation, then stood up and placed a strong hand on Adam's shoulder to halt him. 'You know what friend, we have been overdue an official meetin' but I don't think it needs to be in such a formal settin'...My Deputy will holler at you later and we'll figure somethin' out, if only to appease our mutual infatuation' he smiled smugly, then laughed to himself when Adam stormed out.
Ben entered the office when he saw Adam leave and looked at Lucas suspiciously. 'What'd you do this time?' he asked disapprovingly, not believing that angering the Mayor was the most appropriate thing to do.
'What me? I don't do anythin'' Lucas responded feigning innocence, then shot him a playful wink and signalled for him to bring the car around front.
