Disclaimer: I dont own Naruto
Chapter 1
Suiton: Water Bullet!
Doton: Earth Bullet!
The ball of water and the smaller but denser rock projectile clashed.
Due to elemental advantage my earth bullet tore right through the water ball and kept on heading straight towards my opponent.
My opponent ducked down low to dodge, not that I expected my jutsu to hit, but it gave me enough time to speed through the hand seals of my next jutsu:
Futon: Air Bullets!
I exhaled multiple spheres of air, aiming at my opponent and slightly to the left of him, so he had to dodge to the right. Seeing him jump exactly there, I rushed him while drawing my chokuto and in one fluid motion attacked him with a slash that would've taken his head clean off if he didn't draw a kunai in the last second to block my slash.
However, as I, unnoticed by him, infused my blade with Futon chakra, my sword cut straight through his knife and he had to kawarimi himself with a nearby log.
Looking around, I couldn't see him and instantly focused on my sensor abilities, only to find him rushing me from underground.
Thinking he would expect me to jump up, I decided to try something else instead.
Resheathing my chokuto, I put my hands on the ground and infused the top layer of the ground with my Doton chakra, making it way denser and, due to surprising him, not possible for him to break through.
Focusing on his chakra this time, allowed me to track his Kawarimi.
Knowing how the Kawarimi leaves you unfocused for a split second after arriving, I quickly drew some shuriken and while throwing them infused them with wind chakra. But I didn't stop there, while they were blitzing towards my unsuspecting target, I quickly put my hands into a cross seal and whispered:
Shuriken Shadow Clone Jutsu!
My handful of shuriken multiplied to around fifty and completely shredded through my target, only for it to puff into a small cloud of smoke.
"Very good Yama-kun, you've really come a long way since I started training you" a calm and warm voice sounded out from behind me.
Relaxing my posture a bit, but never letting my guard down, I turned around to face my teacher.
"Thank you Sasuke-sensei, I think I'm ready for the graduation exams tomorrow" I answered cheekily.
Now you might be thinking 'Sasuke-sensei? When did that dobe become a teacher and who the hell thought that that would be a good idea?!'
The answer is pretty simple, he didn't.
In fact Sasuke Uchiha doesn't even exist yet.
No, Sasuke-sensei is actually the person the the emo was named after, Sasuke Sarutobi. Ninja extraordinary, ANBU-Commandant, father of the Sandaime Hokage and most importantly, my grandfather. Yeah you heard that right, I'm the son of the famous Kami no Shinobi.
Surprisingly though my name isn't Asuma, no it's Yama Sarutobi.
Yeah I was surprised as well when I one day just randomly woke up in the body of a 5 year old son of a character I only knew from an anime before then.
Naturally, the first thing I did was panic, I mean come on who wouldn't?
You just go to bed like every day and BAM the next morning you wake up in a fictional world with godlike chakra beasts, villains that want to put the whole world into an infinite illusion and actual fucking aliens.
Yeah, I panicked. Badly.
However I soon realized that I wouldn't have to worry about Akatsuki and the whole canon cluster-fuck for quite some time.
When I woke up it actually was in the admittedly quite brief peace time between the first and the second shinobi world war. Yay.
Now, arriving at this point was a rather ambiguous thing.
On the one hand I had enough time to get stronger, get prepared and maybe even change some things to hopefully get to a better outcome than canon.
On the other side I was going in practically blind. There really isn't all that much known about the first three shinobi world wars, especially the second. The only things of note are the rise of the Sannin and that of Konoha's White Fang: Sakumo Hatake.
At first I didn't plan on telling anyone about me being a dimensional traveler, however that didn't work out.
I really should've known that as a now 5 years old kid I wouldn't be able to hide something this huge from the legendary Shinobi I live with.
Surprisingly, or maybe not that surprisingly, it wasn't even my father that saw right through my facade, no it was my sensei mentor and grandpa Sasuke Sarutobi.
Hiruzen Sarutobi actually really isn't that great of a dad. I mean one could argue that he's busy being Hokage and all that, but that's really not it.
Being 5 times my physical age, even as a '5 year old' I didn't need all that much attention, but I was still disappointed. Mainly because how affectionate and grandfatherly he's shown to be with Naruto later on.
But he didn't show any of that to me, no he was serious, strict and basically never around. Coupled with grieving my deceased mother (died giving birth), who surprisingly isn't Biwako (they apparently haven't met yet, I suspect it'll be a political marriage that's yet to come) drove me all the more in the arms of my grandfather.
Ironic really as he as the head of ANBU always made time for me and thaught me basically all I know.
Now where Hiruzen was somewhat of a disappointment, Sasuke was a gift.
He's caring, humorous and a great and patient teacher. Not that he needed much patience with me as I was dedicated from the beginning. I soon realized that there's more to being a Sarutobi than a fancy name and some connection to monkeys:
Where the Uchiha had their Sharingan and aptitude at Katon and the Hyuga had their Byakugan and Taijutsu, the Sarutobi had something else: control.
Now when you hear control in a Naruto context, the first thing you probably think of is chakra control and while we do indeed have great inherent chakra control, that's not even half of it.
I'm convinced that a Sarutobi's brain is wired differently from others. The control we have over our muscles, balance and movement is simply astonishing.
Now part of it might be because of me not being used to having chakra in my body, which already helps a lot more than one might think, that definitely can't be all.
Us Sarutobi, are extremely flexible, our balance is ridiculous and every movement is naturally exactly measured.
And let me tell you, when it comes to Shinobi training this control is a fucking cheat.
It's like everything comes natural to you.
All sorts of weapons are mastered to advanced degree ridiculously fast.
Elemental manipulation for all nature's is, maybe not a breeze, but still, it's a lot easier than it should be.
Ninjutsu is just a mix of elemental and shape manipulation of chakra, which once again all comes down to control.
Don't even get me started on Genjutsu, while I might not yet be as good as an Uchiha at using them, detecting them becomes child play when your initially aware of all your body functions.
Iryojutsu I haven't learnt that much as of yet, but healing yourself with your chakra, by transforming it into medical chakra and applying it to the damaged area is a Sarutobi's bread and butter.
Taijutsu.. do I even have to say anything? I have actually been doing some martial arts in my past Life and let me tell you the difference now that I'm a Sarutobi is ridiculous.
As I was very tall in my past life (and probably going to be in this life as well, seeing as I'm already as tall as my father) one of my biggest problems in martial arts has been balance. Now don't get me wrong it's not like I was just stumbling around and all you had to do in order to defeat me was trip me, but still balance was difficult, especially while performing kicks with my long legs.
Nowadays, it's like the concept of gravity doesn't even effect my body.
But physical and chakra control still wasn't all of it, never before has my mind been so clear, and it's never been so easy to remember things.
It's no eidetic memory but it's still darn good.
Emotional control is also an interesting point, when you see the Sarutobi clan, you wouldn't think they have a good grip on their emotions as they seem very boisterous and slightly goofy. However that couldn't be further from the truth, it's just that they usually choose to show and live those emotions, though they are also capable of shutting them off when the need arises.
Now hearing all that you might be wondering why they aren't shown more in the anime and manga if they're so exceptional Shinobi. Well the answer is it's, simply because they are so exceptional Shinobi, that they're not shown more. The Sarutobi were together with the Shimura Clan the first to join Konohagakure after its founding.
However, from the very start, the Sarutobi clan focused on Black ops, so the Sarutobi basically are ANBU.
I'm not even kidding, over 70% of ANBU captains are Sarutobi.
And historically, the ANBU Commander position has basically been hereditary to the next Sarutobi clan head, Hiruzen being the first exception to that rule as he chose to accept the title of Hokage (for which he received a lot of shit from the Clan).
Now you might be wondering how I, a measly 10 year old academy student know so much about the village's darkest and most secretive organisation. The reason for that, is that my grandfather is basically grooming me to become the next ANBU Commander.
As my father obviously can't take the position and my grandfather is getting old, it'll fall to me to take up the mantle, soon.
Although the pressure isn't that high right now, as Sasuke has found a temporary replacement for himself in Kagami Uchiha, who has been together with Danzo Shimura, Homura Mitokado, Koharu Utatane and Torifu Akimichi under the tutelage of the Nidaime Hokage, Tobirama Senju.
Although Sasuke still has the higher clearance and does all the non active work, meaning everyone in ANBU still answers and reports to him but he's not actively doing missions anymore.
Seeing as my grandfather is a exceptional and highly experienced ANBU Commander it's not surprising that he was onto me in the first week of my 'awakening'.
Seeing no way to lie to someone like him, I decided to just come out with the truth and told him everything. Surprisingly it didn't take much to convince him (probably because he could sense if I was lying) and in the end it definitely was for the best.
He took my advanced maturity and work ethics as an excuse to absolutely train me into the ground. Still, I never complained. Not even once.
I knew that if I wanted to survive, I had to get stronger, way stronger.
To change the future for the better though, I had to become the strongest, period.
Seeing as I didn't have any ridiculous shortcuts to S-Rank like some stupidly overpowered Dojutsu, I instead chose to stay true to the Sarutobi way: Becoming the complete Shinobi, mastering all of the ninja arts.
Being an allrounder allows you to always have the right counter against every opponent and cover all your weaknesses (in theory).
Still, I obviously had to start somewhere. Together with Sasuke we made up a training regime.
First we concentrated solely on chakra control and Taijutsu.
Taijutsu is actually an interesting point, cause I took to it like a fish to water.
The Sarutobi clan has a multitude of Taijutsu styles all named after different species of monkeys and apes.
There are mainly three Taijutsu styles that I'm currently adept at:
The Gorilla-style which, as one would expect relies heavily on strong punches and kicks and sturdy blocks. So basically overwhelming your opponent with sheer force. It might seem quite unrefined but it really isn't, your always calculating, which hit you can block or even just take and which benefit you'd get from that.
This style is heavily complimented by my earth affinity.
The second style is funnily enough the Orang-Utan-style which is all about redirecting the opponent's energy to use it against them.
The movements of this style often seem to be slow but are actually a lot faster than they seem.
It works a lot with positioning, leverages and weak points in the opponent's body as well as strong points in one's own.
Breaking a joint is a lot easier than breaking a bone especially if you're using your own bone to do it.
This is actually the style I train the most with and am thus the best at.
The third style I use is the Patas-style, named after the Patas Monkey, the fastest monkey in existence.
As the name indicates this style is all about speed and quick jabs and kicks, often focusing on pressure points as they usually lack strength.
Defensive wise it's about evading and dodging attacks. This one fits well with my wind affinity. Especially since I learnt to augment my strikes with wind chakra.
In terms of chakra control we started with the usual, Surface-walking and Water-walking. After that we went on to more advanced things like Kunai-rotation and one of my favourites: Chakra Threads.
Those buggers are so unbelievably useful! i
It's basically like Telekinesis.
Another extremely useful Clan-technique, he thaught me was the Muscle-stimulation Jutsu. What you do here is basically using advanced chakra-control to artificially stimulate your muscles, meaning you can passively train them 24/7.
Apart from that we also did a lot of weapons training with all sorts of weapons, obviously shuriken and kunai but also different kinds of swords, staffs, tonfa, flails, whips, knives, fans and some scythe weapons.
The Kusurigama actually was one of my favourite weapons, especially while infusing it with elemental chakra, making the scythe cut cleanly through anything, and massively powering up the sheer blunt force of the weight on the other end of the chain. However, my favourite weapon was the black, simple, ANBU-grade chokuto. It was simple but oh so effective. Also, quite inconspicuous as it didn't have a guard and when sheathed looked just like small staff. Usually I had it stored in a storage seal placed on my wrist, but I also kept in the open so as to make my opponents focus on it.
All of that took up a vast part of the training I did in the last 5 years. Only a few months ago did Sasuke start me on elemental Jutsu, after testing my elemental affinities of course. As you might've guessed, my affinities are Doton and Futon, earth and wind, which honestly I think is great. I always thought Raiton and Katon were way to flashy for a ninja anyways. I mean come on, the chidori an assassination technique? Seriously? that shit is about as subtle as a fire alarm. No, earth and wind was a great combination. Also because they balance each other out quite well. Earth is the most defensive release, while wind is the most versatile offensive-wise. Also earth's only weakness is lightning, which is resisted by wind.
Other than that Sasuke also taught me a lot of theoretical stuff, history politics, science and all that.
Also can't forget about Fuinjutsu! Admittedly I wasn't that skilled in that yet, but I could at least make quite good explosive and storage seals. I also can make a few different seals, for example I developed one that makes it easier to channel chakra into my chokuto and one that I put on all my throwing weapons, that if activated acts like a tracker and anchor, allowing me to feel were my weapons are and use the seal as an anchor-point for my chakra threads, making retrieving them way easier.
Iryojutsu for now, was probably my weakest field, all I really knew for now was how to transform my chakra into medical chakra and channel it to were it hurts. I'd love to learn chakra scalpels one day. I had this mad vision of using those in combination with my Patas-style to become a truly fearsome Nin-Taijutsu user.
Suddenly I was ripped from my thoughts by my sensei screaming my name right into my ears.
"YAMA!!"
"Sorry what?"
"You've been spacing out again."
"Oh sorry, you've been saying?"
"*Sigh* I've asked you if you had already decided which Jutsu you want me to teach you tomorrow as a reward for becoming a Genin?"
"Oh right! I choose Doton: Iron skin. I think it could work really well with my Gorilla-style."
"Yeah, I can see were you're going. Alright then we should get going or we'll be late for dinner.
And so we took off towards the Sarutobi compound, if you can really call it that.
Due to their close relations with monkeys and apes the Sarutobi clan lives in the forest behind the Hokage monument. Now you're probably thinking of some compound that's just surrounded by trees, but that's not what it's like, no the Sarutobi literally live in the trees there. The whole Compound is basically just a group of tree houses, connected with bridges and ladders.
-1-
About a week later I found myself in the academy class room waiting for the team placements.
Academy actually was rather interesting, I was often offered to graduate earlier but till now I never accepted the offer, the main reason for that being my current class.
There were a lot of future clan heads in my class right now, for example Fugaku Uchiha, who was a stuck up idiot, Tsume Inuzuka, who was way too loud and brash in the mornings. There also was Hiashi Hyuuga and his twin Hizashi Hyuuga. I definitely liked Hizashi more, Hiashi, being the heir felt the need to act all high and mighty, while Hizashi was more down to earth.
Me and Hizashi actually were great friends and frequent sparring partners, as my Patas-style actually was quite similar to the gentle fist we often had great fights and learned a lot from each other.
The other notable persons in my class were Shikaku Nara, Inoichi Yamanaka, Chouza Amikichi, Shibi Aburame and Mikoto Uchiha.
As I only got into this class a year ago I didn't have that many close relations with anyone else here, though I was at least cordial with all of the clan heirs.
During my ramblings the class instructor Koga Sho had finished his grand speech about becoming ninja and upholding the will of fire and actually already named a few teams.
"Team ten Shikaku Nara, Inoichi Yamanaka, Chouza Amikichi, Jonin-sensei Saboru Sarutobi", he announced.
Saboru actually was one of the few realtives I had that weren't ANBU. I hadn't interacted that much with him since he was a rather distant relative and as most, quite a busy person.
But now it was time to hear what team I was going to be on:
"Team eleven, Hizashi Hyuuga, Mikoto Uchiha and Yama Sarutobi, Jonin-sensei Sakumo Hatake"
Well, fuck.
AN: Well that was interesting, some might have realised that I actually completely restarted this chapter once, since I didnt want to go too much into the whole reincarnation thing since I never really liked reading that.
I've got big plans for this story, since I think the setting has a lot of potential. I'm sorry for posting the chapter unfinished once, the reason for that was mainly that it was my first time posting a story here and I wanted to know how that shit worked. Anyways if you enjoyed the first chapter I would be delighted to get some reviews, though I cant blame anyone who doesnt leave one as I personally dont review that much either.
Have a great day :)
