Hey all, haven't written on here in a looooooong time, mostly sticking to the occasional Twitter fic but this idea kept popping into my mind! Let me know what you think! xoxoxox
He wasn't sure what brought it on, maybe the stress of work or lack of water? His feet stumbled as he walked out of the office towards the coffee cart - the sky was getting darker given it was nearing 7pm. He was going to wait for Donna at the office, knowing she had a meeting across town and still needed to stay late at work to finish off her tasks. He loved their Friday routines, always leaving work together, either going out for drinks just the two of them or going straight home to watch a movie and cuddle up.
As he looked to his left, he recognised the petite brunette next to him. His eyes still feeling foggy like he was about to pass out.
"Harvey!" The chirpy voice entered his conscience. "Hey, I was just walking from the hotel opposite, fancy seeing you out here."
"Scottie, hel..."
Unable to finish his sentence his legs gave way and his feet felt like they slid out from under him. "Oh my God, hey hey, are you ok!" Everyone around the street by the cart was now looking at him, his eyes were clamped shut - Scottie began to get really worried for him, bending down to his level trying to help him regain sense, but to no avail. "Someone call an ambulance dammit!"
Within minutes an ambulance arrived; she told them she was going to ride along to make sure he was ok and that he had someone he knew with him when he woke up. The thought of Donna hadn't even crossed her mind - the last time they spoke was when she promised to stay away from him. Right now that wasn't her main concern, only that she's glad she was there at the right time to help him.
...
Donna walked back to the office around 9, unable to get in contact with Harvey, deeming his phone must be switched off or something. She simply figured she would meet him in his office as he promised he'd wait for her at work to go home together.
As she reached the 50th floor, the lights towards his office were switched off but his laptop and bags were still there - he rarely left his stuff unless he was just popping out for a minute or two. Calling again, he didn't pick up.
"Harvey, it's me, can you pick up the phone. I'm kinda getting worried, I was hoping we'd ride home together and pick up a takeaway or something? Call me as soon as you get this!"
...
Back at the hospital, the doctors reassured Scottie that Harvey was going to be ok, assuming that she must have been his girlfriend or wife or something. He was still knocked out, the Doctor saying it was down to both stress and a lack of food in his system - nothing some rest won't fix.
"Do..." his voice made her jump from her seat, going to his side to see if he was ok.
"Harvey hey, it's me..."
"Don.." the only letters she could make out were Don - there's only one thing he wouldn't be trying to say, she can't say she's surprised after all.
"Donna..." his hand began to reach out as if catching her hand; his eyes still closed from the exhaustion.
"Harvey, it's me, Scottie."
This made him wake up, slowly pulling his hand back towards himself and looking at the women standing next to him with confusion.
"Sc..Scottie? Where's...Donna?"
"I'm not sure Harvey, you passed out on the street and I happened to be walking by so came in the Ambulance with you."
Scottie still had no idea that they were married or even together at this point, not thinking his calling Donna would be out of character for him on any usual day.
"Call Donna...was meeting after work...cal..."
He seemingly lost consciousness again after this point; she got the message about what he wanted so let him rest whilst moving out of the room to call Donna.
...
The hour hitting 9:45pm, she was sat on his sofa, calling everyone in the office to see where he was. No one knew and his apartment phone and her apartment phone remained unanswered?
She called Ray next, hoping the driver would have some idea about her Husbands whereabouts.
"Ray, hey, did you take Harvey home? I can't seem to get hold of him?"
"Donna hi, no, I'm still driving around town waiting for him to call me? He said he shouldn't be later than 9pm today so I was at slightly confused to receive no call?"
"No problem Ray, you go on home to your family, I'll try and figure out where he is!"
She was now pacing his office, her nerves getting the better of her as a tear unwilling shed from her eyes
"Are you sure Donna?"
"Yes of course, enjoy your weekend Ray."
With that she ended the call abruptly, walking towards the desk to get some tissues, leaving her phone on the sofa.
2 minutes later it began to ring, she hastily walked across the office back towards her phone, her body filling up with hope about the person on the other end of the line. As she picked the phone up, the screen read 'Scottie?' The confusion of this day already heightened within her, she picked up the phone.
"Donna, it's Scottie."
"Scottie hi, is everything alright?"
"Not really, I had a meeting in the hotel opposite your offices earlier today and when I walked across the street, Harvey was at the coffee cart so I thought I'd go say hi but he seemed to lose his balance and passed out on the sidewalk."
"What! Oh my God! Where is he? Is he ok? Are yo..."
"Donna! Slow down, he's ok! I rode with him in the ambulance and the doctors have checked him out; he's ok and was just exhausted. He woke up about 5 minutes ago but the only word I got was your name and I guess he wanted me to call you, saying something about how you were going to meet? So I thought I'd let you know."
"Oh my God, well...I'm glad someone was there... Thanks Scottie, which hospital are you at I'm coming now."
"Donna it's ok, the doctors said he's sleeping and that he really needs the rest so it might be better to wait until the morning."
"Scottie, the hospital name, that's all I need."
She began to grow agitated by the minute, just needing to feel and see her husbands face to make sure he was ok.
"We're at Mount Sinai on the 3rd floor, bedroom 12."
Before she could continue speaking, the phone ended. Donna ran as fast as she could to the elevators, clicking the ground floor 1000 times!
Luckily there was a cab right where she needed one to be when she exited the building, making a beeline for it. "Mount Sinai hospital please and step on it!"
...
15 minutes later, Scottie saw a flash of red from the door open.
"Donna hey, he's in here."
"Thanks..." she kindly acknowledged the brunette, not thinking about niceties at the minute; although thankful for everything she'd done, she just needed to hold Harvey.
The second the door opened, he must have sensed her as his eyes began to flicker open. She slowly moved inwards to sit on the edge of the bed, holding his hand in hers. "Harvey it's me, I'm here." Upon hearing her voice, his grip on her hand tightened and his eyes opened. "Donna...yo...you're here...I'm sorr..."
He wearily spoke trying to bring his head forward, closer towards her. "Ssh, it's ok, stay lying down, you're ok, I've got you."
She brought her hands up to his cheek, moving closer to his face to kiss his forehead, lingering her lips there before moving down to rest her head against his chest, finding solace in his heartbeat, her own finally calming and resetting its rhythm from its earlier frenzied state.
After a few minutes, she spoke again, still in the same position, "I was so worried, I couldn't get a hold of you and then no one knew where you were, I..." her voice then choked up, Harvey's hand coming to rest through her hair, keeping her close to him "...I don't know what I'd ever do without you Harvey, I really don't."
She moved her head then, resting her chin on his chest so she could look into his eyes.
"I'm sorry Donna, I didn't mean to scare you. I'm ok, nothing is ever going to happen to me, I promise."
His smile turned into a soft laugh when Donna responded with "yeah well...pull something like this again and something might happen..." trying to make light of the situation. Harvey weakly drew his thumb to wipe away her tears, whilst Donna came up to softly place her lips on his, Harvey opening up his mouth to hers, showing him all of her love in that small action. She pulled away and lay back down beside him, Harvey slowly moving along the bed to make sure she had enough room for herself.
Scottie watched the beginning of their interaction from the window, beginning to click that things had changed. Surely them touching like this and her kissing his face was more than their usual. It was only then that she saw his ring - it was previously covered by the drip and the hospital gown that she hadn't even seen it! Two matching jewellery items were then spotted on Donna's left hand which had its place upon his right cheek.
Taking a step back, 'wow' she thought to herself, not only did they get their shit together, they actually got married too.
Though she was happy for them, there was slight feeling of jealously or, maybe not jealously but something that made her question for a second whether they even had a chance with Donna being in his life - she really was the only true constant he had and the only person he really loved. I guess even she had to admit that to herself.
...
A few hours had passed then, Harvey falling asleep again whilst Donna also dozed off, snuggled into his side. When the door creaked open, a nurse walked in, waking them both, with Scottie also in tow.
The nurse didn't say much, simply coming to check on his vitals, leaving him, Donna and Scottie alone in the room.
Donna spoke first, "Scottie hey, I'm sorry, I must have fallen asleep!"
"It's ok don't worry; I thought I'd let you both rest so I took the liberty of filling out the paper work for him, I hope that's alright?"
"Of course, thank you for doing that!"
"Really Scottie, thank you and thank you for making sure I was alright." It was Harvey then speaking, after everything they had been through, there was no room for anger or jealously; everyone was exactly where they were meant to be.
"Well, I'll leave you guys to it then, let me know you're alright when you get discharged."
"Hey, I'll walk you out." Donna arose from her position next to Harvey, giving his hand an extra squeeze before following Scottie out of the door.
Once the door closed, Scottie spoke first with a slight smirk to her voice,
"So, you and Harvey really did it, you got married!"
"Yeah we really did...," looking down with a timid smile at her ring ..."thank you Scottie, really I mean it."
"Ah it was nothing, I only sat outside the door anyway.."
"No...I don't mean, well..., I don't only mean for being here today but for what you did. Harvey told me about your phone call when you were last in town, seems you really got to both of our stubborn asses on that trip."
"Well, your stubborn asses just needed a little push in the right direction."
Both women then stood there smiling, Donna going in for a small hug, "I'll speak to you soon, and thank you again."
Slowly pulling away, "of course, you guys take care ok."
"You too."
And with that, she walked away from the couple, still in awe that they were really together.
...
The next morning the doctor came in and discharged Harvey, "you better make sure you keep an eye on this one all weekend ok, no funny business."
"Of course doc, I have to keep an eye on him most weekends anyway." Both Donna and the doctor now laughing directly at Harvey who was just trying to put his shoes back on ready to go.
"Geez thanks guys but just a reminder, I'm the patient here." Giggles then filled the room and Harvey and Donna both shook hands with the doctor, excusing themselves from the room arm in arm.
Scottie had left her work bag in the chair outside Harvey's room, not wanting to disturb them by asking them to bring it to her, she went back to the hospital and collected it from the desk that morning.
When she turned on her heels, she saw the couple walking away from the hospital hand in hand.
Harvey pulled on Donna's arm, making her spin in to him on the side of the entrance to the hospital.
"Hey, thank you for always taking care of me."
"Oh well you know, duty came with the marriage vows..."
With both of them laughing from her comment, Harvey brought his hand to her cheek, pushing the hair behind her ears whispering an "I really mean it" on her lips whilst encapsulating hers with his own. Of course she knew he meant it, she could see his gratitude in his eyes. She shadowed his actions, bringing her hand up through his hair to the nape of his neck, kissing him back with the full force of her lips, still realising they were in a public place. He drew away from her lips, close enough for her to feel his breathe on them, "I love you, Donna."
Pulling away to look him in the eyes, "Mmm I love you too Harvey." And with that, they threaded their hands together, her thumb stroking circles on his, and left the hospital grounds.
Scottie still watching from afar, dazed by this new Harvey that she never really got the chance to see or witness, simply shook her head with a small smile, happy for the couple in front her, walking away hand in hand back to their home.
Everything ended up just as it was supposed too.
