Steve came online as a sentinel at 15 when his mom died and he zoned at her funeral and was taken to the sentinel and guide centre where Steve realised a couple of days later what happened. After they tested him they found out he had four of the five senses – hearing, sight, touch and smell. After his mom died his dad decided it was too dangerous for him to stay so sent him to the navy and army academy, where he decided he wanted to be a seal.
Steve nearly zoned when he heard Victor Hesse shoot his dad but one of the team members that had managed to survive the shootout, was near Steve when he was on the phone with Victor Hesse had managed to talk him out of the zone and helped him back to the base, where they took him to the sentinel quarters so Steve could meditate until they arranged a flight home. The military flight was about to land he was told the governor wanted to see him. He met with governor Denning but turned down his offer to run a task force with governor Denning telling him to think about it. After running into Detective Danny Williams in his garage he changed his mind after seeing who was investigating his father's case, ringing the governor while Danny was glaring at him saying that the case was now his.
Steve went to the precinct to get the file and was given a room to look through the information that was on his father's case, after reading through how much Danny had done Steve decided he wanted him on his team and spoke to Danny's captain saying that he wanted Detective Williams on his team, which the captain agreed with and said he'll have the transfer done by tonight and gave Danny's information over to Steve. Steve quickly looked up Danny's address telling Danny he was now on his team and asked who Duran was. He could see that Danny wasn't happy about the change but after telling Danny that he had spoken to his captain and he didn't have a choice to be on his team.
After speaking with Chin Ho Kelly and convincing him to join the task force they went to see his CI getting the information on who could help Victor Hesse to get off the island, the name they got was Sang Min with Chin suggesting they needed an undercover and his cousin Kono Kalakaua was about to graduate from the police academy.
Kono had agreed to help and they set up her meeting with Sang Min for the next day. The next day Kono met with Sang Min and got the information from Sang Min on where Hesse was, Steve and Danny took a police car to the ship and took out Hesse along with a couple of the guys Hesse had with him and arrested the ones still alive.
When Steve finished having his shoulder checked he met the team at the office for beers. "So Steve I remember from when I was working with your dad that he mentioned you're a sentinel is that right because I'm a sentinel as well."
"So you're a sentinel as well Chin, yes I'm a sentinel, do you have a guide Chin." Asked Steve
"Well that explains everything." Interrupted Danny "Yes I have a guide her name is Malia, She's a doctor and we have been married for 2 years, I've only got sight and hearing." Quickly interrupted Chin to stop an argument "Where is your guide Steve."
"I don't have a guide Chin no one ever matched me. The Navy kept trying to find someone but no one matched so I gave up on a guide because I did try a temporary one with a friend of mine we weren't a match but she knew how to stop my zones so the navy said until she found her sentinel she could help me but she was killed on a mission and after that I refused a permanent guide so due to my team mates knowing about sentinels they could help instead." Replied Steve
"I'm a sentinel as well but only have sight." Said Kono. "I'm married to Charlie who is my guide, he works in the crime lab how about you Danny are you or any of your family sentinel or guides."
"My dad is a sentinel, mom is his guide, my sister Bridget came online as a sentinel at 16, she decided on using the medication, my sister Stella is a guide at 14 and found her sentinel when they were at school together and my brother Matt is a guide and on medication and yes our parents support their decision to use medication saying it's the persons choice if they want to use medication before you ask that question because I know a lot of people don't agree with medication being used." Answered Danny "How about you Steve
"My mom before she died was a sentinel and dad was her guide. Mary is also a sentinel but she only has sight so she doesn't use it much." Said Steve.
"My dad is a sentinel with mom his guide." Replied Chin "My dad is a guide and my mom is a sentinel." Answered Kono
When they had been a team for two months they got information on where the criminals they had been chasing for the past week are hiding out and headed to the warehouse. While putting on their bullet proof vest Danny decided to ask Steve why they didn't call in back up. "Because Danny I don't want to waste HPD time if the criminals aren't here." Replied Steve "I have let Duke know we are at the warehouse."
Steve and Danny entered the front, while Chin and Kono entered the back and the next thing Danny remembers is waking up on a concrete floor. It takes him a couple of tries to sit up due to his head spinning. He looks around the room and see that they are in a small room with a window up high that none of them would fit through, after using the wall to stand he stumbles over to the door and finds it locked. Deciding to see if he can wake the others up, he goes back over to Steve and collapses next to Steve.
"Hey Steve come on wake up." Said Danny shaking Steve's shoulder but after getting no reaction he tried again with still no reaction, he lifted up one of his eyelids and recognises that Steve has zoned. So Danny did the only thing he could think of and that was to keep talking and touching Steve on the shoulder to see if he could help but after a couple of minutes realised he wasn't. After listening to Kono try to sit up he asked her if she was alright. "Yeah Danny I'm okay head feels funny though do you know what happened."
"Not sure what happened but with how our heads are feeling I think the criminals used a knock out gas on us. Steve has zoned already I can't help him." Said Danny as Kono managed to get to her feet after checking on Chin. "I can try Danny but I'm not sure I will be able to help Steve, so we have to hope that Duke has realised something's wrong and have gone to the warehouse to check." Replied Kono "Do your best Kono and don't feel bad if you can't help him." Answered Danny just as Chin sat up "I'm guessing Kono you're trying to get Steve out of a zone I think when they used the knock out gas on us, they must have known we were sentinels and used a sentinel stun grenade. My hearing isn't as good as Steve's but I'm trying to get my senses under control because my ears and eyes are feeling weird so I might zone if I don't get it under control." Answered Chin.
While Kono was seeing if she could help Steve, Danny was again trying to get the door to open. Kono went back to sit next to Chin after not being able to help Steve.
After Duke checked his watch again he yelled out to the other officers. "Everyone I need you to gear up and follow me to the warehouse that Five-0 raided an hour ago. Commander McGarrett contacted me just before they went in to say they were just checking the warehouse not expecting the criminals they were chasing to be there so in Commander McGarrett's words he didn't want to waste our time. He said he will contact me when they are finished he hasn't done that and none of the team are answering their phone." Said Duke
"We know that Commander Mcgarrett, officer Kalakaua and Detective Kelly are sentinels so should we take high ranking HPD Guides and paramedic guides with us in case they are having sentinel problems." Replied one officer "Yes that's a good idea let them know we are going to the location now and to follow us to the location." Replied Duke
Duke and the officers got to the warehouse nearly an hour later to find the cars of Danny and Kono but no Five-0 taskforce. After the officers searched the warehouse they found the knock out gas container along with the senses that was putting out the noise and lights to make a sentinel zone after one of the sentinel officers entered the warehouse, quickly went out letting them know about the noise so they could to find it. After they showed the evidence to Duke they got the crime lab to go over the warehouse Duke was about to tell Charlie who had arrived with them that he should take the time off.
"No Duke I need to be here investigating to keep from being worried." Answered Charlie "Okay Charlie only if you can handle it." Replied Duke receiving a nod from Charlie
"So if we have found evidence of the strobe ball that interferes with a sentinel's ability I think we should know that the criminals know that Commander McGarrett, officer Kalakaua and Detective Kelly are sentinels and targeted them." Asked one of the officers "Do you know if Detective Williams is?"
"I don't know if he is one or not I did mention it to Steve saying is he the odd one out of the group because he hasn't said if his a sentinel or a guide, Steve said he has kept asking Danny if he is due to his whole family being mostly sentinels and a couple of guides but Danny keeps changing the subject so Steve doesn't know." Replied Duke
The next morning someone had put food and drink just inside the door but they never said anything and where wearing masks with gunman behind the one who put the food in. Kono had been talking on and off quietly to Chin who had said she didn't need to talk all the time but he still felt off, Danny was sitting on Kono's other side with Steve next to him.
On their second morning they again got food and drink but due to the gunman behind the one that put the food in they couldn't do anything again and Danny quietly took a pill from his pocket when Kono was distracted getting the food and drink to Chin with Danny not wanting Kono to ask him what it was but Chin saw him. "Danny what did you just take." Asked Chin "Nothing Chin"
"Danny I saw you take a pill so don't say you did so what was the pill." Replied Chin "Danny are you a sentinel or a guide because you take pills to stop the senses, is that the pill Chin saw you take because if it is we need to know so that we can help you because I don't think you would have many with you." Asked Kono
"Okay fine yes it's a pill that I have to take because I'm a sentinel I'm supposed to take one in the morning and one at night but because I didn't know how long we would be held I only took one yesterday morning and skipped last night so I'd have one for this morning." Replied Danny
"Why didn't you tell us you are a sentinel Danny because I know that Steve keeps asking you and you always change the subject?" Asked Chin
"Because I know a lot of people especially sentinels don't like hearing other sentinels being on medication and you are all Hawaiians that don't like people that use the medication to stop the senses and I didn't want Steve to start a fight about it." Replied Danny
"Okay Danny I do know what you're saying and if we were not stuck here I probably would say something about the medication due to how we were raised to use the senses but I won't because we were also told not to upset people who choose to use the medication, so I'll just ask how many pills do you have left and what are your senses so that we can try to help you if you start having problems." Asked Chin
"I just took the last pill I had Chin and I don't know what my senses are because as soon as my senses started when I was 14 my parents took me to the sentinel centre to get them to help me control the pain I was in and they put me in a room and said they were going to test me and I said that I didn't want them to tell me what senses I had and to give me the medication so I could leave so don't know what the senses are." Replied Danny
"Okay Danny that's fine it's just going to be a bit harder to help you if we don't know but we just have to wait you might start having problems tomorrow since you don't have any pills left but can you tell us how your feeing." Asked Kono
"Yeah Kono I'm starting to feel really tired and sore not sure if that's got anything to do with the senses or not." Replied Danny
On the third morning Kono was tired because Danny had woken in the middle of the night screaming due to sensory overload and nothing she did could help, he was still yelling hours later using his sleeve to try to quite it down before he became quiet in the morning. Kono realised that Danny had zoned making her feel bad she couldn't help him.
"Okay everyone gear up quickly we finally got one of the idiots we arrested yesterday to talk about where they took Five-0." Yelled Duke
When they got to the warehouse gunman opened fire on them so they started shooting back with the paramedics that had come with them keeping a distance behind them. HPD slowly went towards the entrance of the building and started clearing rooms.
"Kono do you hear that I think I hear shooting." "No Chin I don't hear anything. I thought you dialled your hearing down." Replied Kono
"I did dial it down but I keep putting it back because I don't want to get stuck. You already have Danny and Steve zoned on you Kono I didn't want to zone as well." "Okay Chin only if you're going to be careful while you're doing it." "Kono I hear people outside." Interrupted Chin
Kono wasn't sure how long they waited but she was getting a bit nervous with waiting and hoping that Duke had found them and that's what the shooting Chin was hearing was. When the door open Kono breathed a sigh of relief as she saw Duke and heavily armed HPD officers come into the room.
"Kono Chin are you alright." Asked Duke "I'm really happy to see you Duke I'm fine have been spending my time trying to stop Chin from zoning and we found out that Danny is a sentinel when we caught him taking medication." Replied Kono
"Okay Kono can you tell me how they are the paramedics are being led in as we speak." "Okay Duke Chin is struggling to stop himself from zoning his having problems with eyesight and hearing, Steve had already zoned before any of us had woken up and Danny we found out yesterday was a sentinel and is on medication and he did have two pills with him which he spread out over two days instead of one and went into sensory overload this morning and zoned."
"Okay Kono just breath they will be fine can you tell us what problems Danny was having so the paramedics can help him faster." "Okay Duke he was having problems with eyesight, his hearing because he kept saying I was yelling at him which I wasn't, he kept flinching when I touched him and said everything smelled." Relied Kono to the paramedics who had just come into the room.
"So Detective Williams might be a four sense sentinel then due to him zoning we will have high ranking guides with Danny and Steve while we are heading to the sentinel and guide centre to see if they can help on the way to the centre. After the paramedics checked them they were all loaded into ambulances and taken to the centre. Malia met Chin in one of the rooms and he felt better the next day. Kono spent a day at the centre with Charlie joining her. They managed to find a guide the next day to help Danny, who spent a couple of days recovering there even though he kept saying he could do that at home before he left and It took them two days to find a guide to help Steve and he spent a couple of days in the room recovering with the governor giving the team a week of to recover.
