"Happy St. Patrick's Day!" Duo yelled as he entered the office. Heero looked up from his laptop to find that his braided friend had donned ridiculous, clover-shaped glasses, a green bead necklace with clovers on it, and a green bowler hat. Heero inwardly groaned as he glanced over at Relena who-for her part- looked amused.
"You realize that that is against Preventer dress code." Heero glared. Duo smirked.
"Top o' the mornin' to you too, buddy!" Duo quipped and Heero's scowl only intensified.
"Duo, St. Patrick's Day was last week." She said, smiling. The 02 pilot grinned like a Cheshire.
"I know, but I just got my DNA results back."
"Did they actually confirm that you're human?" Heero asked.
"Hey! A joke from Mr. Serious over there! You've been good for him, princess!" Duo winked at her.
"Duo…" Heero growled.
"Duo, what did your test tell you?" Relena's patient voice quelled some of his annoyance.
"Well, I never really cared about my history or anything until I found out Hilde was preggers. I realized I don't know much of anything-"
"That's an understatement."
"Heero!" Relena rebuked him. "Stop interrupting."
"Heh! You got in trouble!"
"And you don't antagonize him." Relena chastised Duo. Heero smirked. "Now, what did your results say?"
"Well, I wanted to be able to tell my kids something about where we came from so I did that DNA test thing and found out that I'm about 75% Irish!"
"How interesting!" Relena smiled.
"Yeah! I'm gonna wear green and drink green beer and have corned beef and cabbage for dinner tonight!" Duo grinned again. Heero rolled his eyes.
"You do realize those are only American Irish customs?" Heero informed his friend. "Corned beef and cabbage was only consumed by the Irish Americans because they were too poor from job discrimination to afford much else."
"Well aren't you little Mr. Party Pooper with your facts and knowledge? How do you know that anyway?" Heero shrugged.
"You would be surprised by the things I've had to research about the different customs of different areas to ensure Relena's safety."
"Oh yeah?" Duo frowned in a fake-pout. "Well, I've got one custom for you and I don't care where it came from." Duo raised his middle finger in the simple, obscene gesture. Relena covered her mouth to stifle a giggle. Heero stood up, offering the braided leprechaun wannabe his darkest glare.
"You have five seconds to get out."
"Guess that's my cue!" Duo winked. "See ya princess!" Duo made a quick exit and Heero took a deep breath to calm his nerves.
Relena walked up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist. He felt all of the previous tension melt away at her touch. The corners of his lips turned up in a small smile as he turned to look at her.
"You could have been a bit nicer, you know." She took his hands in hers.
"He'll get over it."
"Maybe we should take that test too? I'd love to see just how many bloodlines the Peacecrafts come from." Her eyes sparkled at the wistful thought.
"I couldn't care less where I came from." He caressed her cheek. "I'm happy where I am." She smiled up at him and pulled closer, resting her head against his shoulder. After a moment, he heard her giggle and pulled back to look down at her. "What?"
"There is one saying from St. Patrick's Day that I think you will like."
"Hn?" Heero raised a brow as she her smile widened.
"Kiss me, I'm Irish."
"Hm… but are you?"
"I'm European royalty. I'm sure there's some Irish in there somewhere." Her voice took on a sultry tone and her eyelids fluttered low over her aqua eyes.
"In that case, mission accepted." He leaned down and captured her lips with his. He locked the door to the office intent on fully appreciating that particular holiday tradition.
