Chapter 1: A new friendship
"I... I have a crush on you, Aubrey... I been in love with you for years." Sunny could feel his heart, beating at full speed, his hands sweaty, it wasn't the hardest confession he had ever made, but that didn't made this easier to admit, he was afraid to look at her, he just closed his eyes and waited for an answer.
"Sunny, I..." Before continuing, she made sure no one was around to hear her "I feel the same, I love you too." Sunny opened his eyes and looked at Aubrey, her whole face red, she was giving him a warm, sincere smile, And a wave of pure happiness filled Sunny's soul.
Aubrey didn't liked for people to know she had a soft, cute side, she had a reputation of being a badass strong girl and she didn't wanted people to know about the "real Aubrey", this is why just a handful of people was aware that she was dating Sunny, only her close circle of friends, so, whenever they were on a date, they would usually bring some friends to accompany them so it would look like they were just hanging out with a group of friends.
Usually, Sunny would call his best friend Basil and Aubrey would call her best friend Kim and the 4 of them would hang out together, go to Hobbeez, eat pizza at Gino's, go to the cinema or just hang out at the park.
Because of this, Kim and Basil would spend more time together than expected, which led to very awkward conversations between the two.
"So you like plants?" asked Kim, while waiting for Sunny and Aubrey to buy popcorn to see the latest Sweetheart movie, who critics have declared to be one of the worst Sweetheart movies of the decade.
"Y-Yeah, I like to take care of flowers, it's fun."
"Man, you must be the most boring nerd in the world! How can that be any fun?"
"Well, um... it's a very relaxing thing to do, and when you do it right and the flowers grow big and strong, it feels nice, I like it"
Silence, Kim had her arms crossed and her eyes closed, she seemed to be trying to imagine it but for the face she was making she was having trouble finding the fun part of it. Basil, with his best awkward smile, tried his best to help her understand.
"If you want, you can come to my house, I have a lot of flowers and I think..." Before Basil could continue, Sunny and Aubrey returned with the popcorn, and the conversation abruptly ended.
The movie was as terrible as they expected, but that's exactly why they went to watch it, because it was hilariously bad, more fun than any comedy movie. The "totally not a date between Sunny and Aubrey" ended and they all returned to their respective homes.
Except, not too long after Basil arrived at home, someone knock at the door, and when Basil opened the door, the one standing there was none other than Kim.
"Oh, hey Kim, nice to see you again, can I help you with something?" asked a confused Basil.
She simply pushed Basil and entered his house."You invited me nerd, hey do you have any giant carnivorous plant?"
"Oh! I guess I did invited you, I didn't really expect you to come... um, I have some Venus flytraps but they are small plants, wouldn't make much sense to be giant if they only eat small bugs."
"They could eat better stuff if they were bigger, like a chicken or a lion, ouch" said Kim while she was touching a cactus.
"I... I guess? Is not like they eat for the taste, they just eat to survive"
"I bet they wouldn't think the same if I you feed them candies... ouch!"
"Stop touching that cactus, you are going to hurt yourself!" Basil said, taking away the cactus that Kim was constantly touching.
"Pfftt, whatever, so is it true that flowers drink pee?"
"..."
"I-I mean, urine is a safe and effective fertilizer b-but I don't do that! It is unnecessary if you take good care of your plants!"
"Yeah, you totally don't pee on your plants, sure sure."
"I-I DON'T! Stop!" Basil was blushing deeply, he could feel his eyes watering a little, he really didn't wanted anyone to think he did such things.
"Hey hey calm down nerd, I was just teasing you, no need to cry, c'mon" Even if it was fun to mess with others, she wasn't really there to make fun of Basil, in fact she felt a little bad for the poor guy. "Geez, what kind of guy freaks out for something so small? You need to be tougher! Now go ahead and headbutt me!"
"W-what?" replied Basil while cleaning his eyes.
"You heard me, show me what you got, give it all and headbutt me!"
"I'm not going to headbutt you!"
"If you don't do it, I'm going to tell everyone that you pee on your flowers!" Kim was really serious about this, Basil had no other option, he thought in going easy, but he knew Kim would notice and she would get mad. There was no point in delaying the inevitable, so he put his all and hoped that Kim wouldn't get too hurt, he run towards her and... Kim received the lamest headbutt in the history of headbutts. She patted his head.
"Man, that was awful, you really need to get stronger, try it again."
"I'm not doing it again!"
"Why? Your head hurts already? After just one headbutt? That's just terrible, I'm going to start training you from now on."
"You really don't need to."
"Of course I do, you need to learn how to defend yourself when no one is around to help you, besides, Aubrey's friends are my friends too." Basil couldn't help himself but smile when he heard that last part, he didn't thought about the possibility of Kim and him becoming friends, he was happy that she considered him a friend.
"Well, is getting late, so I'mma gonna be leaving, get ready because your training starts tomorrow" said Kim, opening the door.
"Ah, wait, before you leave!" Basil hurried up, grabbed a flowerpot with a small Venus flytrap and gave it to Kim "For you, is a gift, b-but promise me you will not pee on it!"
Kim looked at the flytrap, then at Basil, she smiled at him. "Thanks ner... I mean, Basil, see you tomorrow!" And with that, she left the house, without promising anything.
"Wow Basil, you didn't told me you had a girlfriend!" Polly, who had been hiding until this point, revealed herself, not only she gave Basil a scare, but that comment turned his face red as a tomato.
"Y-YOU GOT THE WRONG IDEA POLLY, W-WE ARE JUST FRIENDS!" Polly laughed and started making dinner.
"We are... just friends." Repeated Basil to himself. "...right?"
