Hello, welcome! This fanfic came to me at some point in my life and I needed to write it.This is the first story I publish. If you decide to read, I hope you enjoy it.
In this story, Luffy becomes the King of pirates, talks to Rayleigh and expresses his suffering to him.
I don't own the characters, all credits to the god Oda. xd
English is not my first language, so you may see some mistakes. Sorry for that... I hope you enjoy the reading!
Summary: Luffy made it happen. He fulfilled his dream and yet, he remained with a blank stare, a constant nagging feeling in his chest, and his heart was broken. The young man, barely twenty years old, kept his straw hat pressed to his chest. Then Rayleigh understood immediately.
Title: Broken heart
Three days to be precise. Exactly three days after the straw hat crew found the One Piece and celebrated their long-awaited triumph with great vigor, news spread around the world. Yes well, the news of the emergence of a new pirate king had shocked the world. Since Luffy's crew began to boom, defeating great and imposing enemies, many people bet on the young man, proclaiming him the next Pirate King. Others did not believe so much in the boy's potential. But the news made a big impression. However, three days after the mention of the new Pirate King, another piece of news shook humanity.
News that no one, especially the straw hat crew, were unprepared for. It was around 2 o'clock in the afternoon, when a messenger bird hovered its wings passing close to the Sunny, which had a rather cheerful and contagious aura. Each of the crew members were chatting or laughing, still happy for everyone to have fulfilled their dreams, allowing themselves to fleetingly recall all the traveling they had gone through. It was Usopp who noticed the bird. As the navigator was closer to the bird, he spoke to it to get its attention.
"Oi, Nami! It's a messenger bird!" the shooter shouted back, excitedly, pointing at the bird with his index finger, and thinking of the incredible news that must be hovering over them. Nami set aside on the floor the drink Sanji had prepared for her a while ago, and walked over to the bird. She paid him and took the newspaper in her hands.
"Let's see what news we have." commented the woman. The others approached curious to see the new news, but after a few minutes the navigator's face paled. "It can't be..." she covered her mouth with one of her hands.
"What's wrong, Nami-san?" inquired the cook, worried about his redhead. Unable to articulate anything, Nami held up the newspaper for everyone to read. Within seconds, everyone seconded her reaction, looking pale and worried.
"This can't mean anything good." this time it was the swordsman who spoke. "Luffy won't stay quiet."
As if he had called out to him, the little captain ran past.
"Hey, guys! Come check this out! Chopper and I just caught a very rare fish. Sanji, I want you to cook it!"
The boy continued on his way, but Zoro's neutral voice stopped him from continuing.
"Luffy." the boy paused. He noticed that his friends remained serious around Nami, who curiously held a newspaper in her hands.
Curious, he cocked his head to one side. "What's up, guys, is something wrong?"
"You should read this.." Fearfully, Nami held out the newspaper to him. He accepted it, puzzled by her attitude, everyone's attitude. He wasn't one to read, but he skimmed through it.
News.
More news.
Ah, that was about them!
Nothing interesting.
More news...
It stopped.
The brunet had to blink several times, he wasn't one to read the news, informing him of the news was the job of his navigator or anyone else who liked to read that gray paper. But what the hell were his eyes reading and why did he tense up so much?
The New World - News
Akagami no Shanks and Marshall D. Teach reunite in the New World?
A few weeks ago before the emergence of the new Pirate King, Monkey D. Luffy, movements were seen on the part of the Akagami pirates. After that, no trace of them was read again. Now, three days after the new Pirate King was appointed, in other words, today morning, the whereabouts of The Red Force were detected on Blue Island, a very visited place. And as if that wasn't enough, Blackbeard's pirates arrive on the scene!
Luffy continued reading, looking at the half-blurred image where he could appreciate not very well what looked like Shanks' ship not so far from Blackbeard's ship. Both captains watching each other intensely, that didn't mean anything good. Luckily for the boy, that island was not far from him.
It seems that both emperors are meeting again to pay off old debts. Without a doubt, the outcome of what happens in this scenario will have a great impact on mankind!
Luffy's crew watched him with concern, but with a glow of conviction. Willing to accept whatever decision he made.
Luffy crumpled the newspaper and tossed it aside. Serious, with a frown, he put on his distinctive hat and faced his companions.
"Guys, let's set sail. We'll stop whatever's going on!"
He had to...no, he had to get there in time. He still had to keep the promise he held with Shanks. Show him what a great pirate he had become and give him back his hat. Besides, Shanks was strong, he would survive.
With that last hopeful thought, he allowed himself to smile, not really knowing what cruel fate had in store for him.
"Shaaaaaaaaaaaaanks!" The rubber boy let out a piercing scream that shook everyone present. His eyes remained on the man's lifeless body. He moved and touched him several times, shouted at him, whispered that he had become the great pirate he promised him; he had even guarded the hat/his treasure with his own life. Although nothing he said was enough to bring him back... Shanks did not wake up.
Blackbeard... That man who didn't have the courage to face him, yet he was still alive somewhere.
Every time Luffy remembered that name, it gave him a bitter taste on the roof of his mouth. Somehow, the pirate knew Luffy was headed for battle and cowardly fled. Though of course, Luffy had arrived too late for his liking/surprise. Shanks was dead and the cause of his death had fled.
If only I had arrived earlier...
Just a little sooner. And Shanks wouldn't be...
Luffy feels weak, he wants to cry, but the tears don't come.
He hates himself for once again losing someone important. The worst thing is that he couldn't do anything.
He looks at his trembling hands, soaked with the blood of the man he still admires after death. Luffy hates himself for not arriving in time.
And with that thought of inadequacy, he falls unconscious.
Two weeks after the very morbid events the straw hats had experienced; which by the way, the rubber captain was unconscious for a week (stressfully worrying his nakamas, especially the crew doctor), Luffy finally came out on deck greeting his shipmates. They all offered him indiscreet and reassuring glances. Usopp and Chopper hugged him as if he were a teddy bear they never wanted to let go, while Robin, Franky, Brook and Nami, approached with smiles on their faces, happy to see their captain. Sanji, who had been preparing food, came out until he was leaning on the doorway to watch his captain. Zoro came down from the crow's nest, watching for Luffy's slightest movement.
However, after the small but lasting scene of hugs towards her captain, Nami decided to break the silence, showing a spark of concern in her brown eyes. The others noticed it, even Luffy himself. For after the rubber boy declined as he did in front of them after witnessing Shanks' death, they all felt horrible; imagining everything the poor guy had to go through when he lost Ace and they couldn't be there for him. This time they could see it with their own eyes and wanted to help their captain, as he did for them so many times.
Nami cleared her throat. "Luffy..." she began with subtlety and concern. "I'm... I mean, we're glad you came out on deck!" she paused to look at him for a few seconds, then continued. "But are you really okay? You know, after... recent events... We've been very worried-"
"Nami!"
Her captain's shout startled her. Everyone had their eyes trained on him.
"Guys..." this time he addressed everyone. "You don't have to worry. I'm already fine. Besides, I've got you guys."
And there was that typical bright smile that characterized him so much. Everyone seemed to doubt it, but they let out a sigh. Luffy was right! Luffy had them!
"Really?" now it was Chopper who insisted, in a very tender tone of voice.
"Really, shishishishi." He stroked the reindeer's small nose with one of his fingers. He swept his eyes around everyone present until he came upon a certain blond. "Sanji! Is the food ready?" everyone smiled as Luffy rubbed his tummy.
"Yes, Captain!" the blond replied from the doorway, a bit absorbed in his own thoughts.
"All right! Let's eat, guys!" he shouted cheerfully.
They all followed him, whispering things like "Yeah, I was starving already" or "I'm going to eat until I feel like a whale" or "The captain seems to be happy," that last one was Robin. And they all headed for the galley, except for a certain swordsman. Who remained still on the deck, with his eyebrows furrowed and his arms crossed.
Liar, liar, liar, liar... Why the hell are you lying, Luffy?
He thought, with his eyes on his captain's back. To the green-haired man, Luffy was like an open book and vice versa. Luffy knows that, so why does he lie? Why does he lie to him?
He doesn't want to worry us, he thought again.
Luffy could be a fool most of the time, still, he has his pride. He was hiding his pain so as not to worry them. Zoro read him so carefully and perfectly, he knows his captain was lying. Anyway he did nothing to confront him.
He was a coward. He didn't have the courage to see his captain collapse as he had a few weeks ago.
He didn't want to witness that again.
With the thoughts gnawing at his mind, he headed for the kitchen.
The passage of time brings news, it's just a matter of being patient and waiting to enjoy the good news. Rayleigh considers himself an old non-believer, but he implored the heavens, or who knows, the birds that soar every day by the clouds, or the floating bubbles of Sabaody, to let him live another couple of years so he can rejoice in all the triumphs of a certain youngster.
The man has lived long enough to be burdened with all kinds of news, some irrelevant, some quite touching and happy, others simply sad and heartbreaking. At that age he hardly cries anymore, but it pained his soul that the red-haired brat passed away... And yes, because for him Shanks would always be a brat, even if he was over thirty years old and lay seven feet under the ground, the redhead was just that, a brat.
They went through a lot together, it all started with a little red-headed boy and his little brother with the big red nose, Buggy. Well, they were both two mischievous chatterboxes. And they joined Roger's pirate voyage, as apprentices. And what a lot they enjoyed! Certainly, Roger and Shanks had a unique relationship, the red-headed man admired his captain with fervor, and well, to Roger, that little guy was extremely special. Their relationship was like that of father and son.
"We live many things together, don't you think, brat?" With a smile pasted on his lips, he raised his gaze across the clear sky that hovered over the archipelago, while thinking about many things, precisely about a certain red-haired brat. Then he drank a little from the bottle he always carried with him.
After Roger's death, Shanks asked Rayleigh to train him. From there the brat learned to master the haki and after a couple of years of training, he set sail ready to follow his dream. But it wasn't just a dream, the boy wanted to carry on Roger's legacy. In the end he became one of the users with the most powerful haki.
"Nothing in this life arises without a true purpose" he thought again.
Enjoying the breeze that the afternoon weather was giving him, he took a quick glance at the vibre card resting next to him on the grass. It was from the second craziest and most giggly apprentice he'd ever had. Looking at the direction the paper pointed, the little pirate must already be there. He smiled again.
Memories gave a fleeting trace through the old man's mind. They were memories of when a certain red-headed man, a couple of years ago now, took a turn around Sabaody.
Rayleigh walked with slow, steady steps, taking a light swig from his bottle, he approached the brat who was waiting for him with a smile from corner to corner, not far from Shakky's bar. He slowed his walk because of the surprise that invaded him... What madness had the brat committed? He slowly glanced at Shanks' figure to make sure he wasn't hallucinating. Curiously, the brat was not wearing that characteristic straw hat of his, and even more surprisingly, what enemy was he up against to lose one of his arms?
"Dahahahahahaha! You've gotten older!" heard Rayleigh, he looked up to meet that transparent, glowing gaze the red-haired man always wore in front of him. "It's been a while, Rayleigh-san." Shanks whispered in a serious tone, but the smile remained on his lips.
"I don't want to know what enemy had the nerve to steal your hat and leave you without an arm, brat." Rayleigh blurted out, by way of greeting.
The older man could notice how Shanks' gaze slowly faded and a nostalgic smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. The redhead moved his one hand until it was placed in his own hair, then slowly lowered it to his left shoulder. "I knew you'd be curious... Oi, wait a minute!" The half-nostalgic scene was completely broken. Shanks pouted and looked reproachfully at the major, pointing his index finger at him. "That's your way of greeting your favorite apprentice after not seeing him for so long? Besides, I'm not a brat anymore! I'm an adult, one of the most powerful pirates, old man!" Rayleigh snorted at that. "Typical brat" he thought.
"To me you'll always be a brat." He said simply. Ignoring the disapproving look on the redhead's part, he continued. "Will you tell me who caused it?"
Shanks sighed. "You won't believe this, Rayleigh-san, but on the East Blue I met a kid who said the same words as the captain..."
Rayleigh raised an eyebrow. "Same words as Roger?"
"That's right, he was saying the same thing as the captain. I could notice the same look of determination the captain was putting on. He was saying that he will become the king of the pirates. Dahahahahaha! He's a very interesting guy!" Shanks said with a chuckle.
The major nodded. "I see... So that boy was the cause of you losing your hat and one of your arms." He pointed out, trying to analyze how the events transpired.
"Dahahahahaha! You saying it that way sounds a little terrible, old man!" He laughed again. "But technically it was..." He smiled wistfully again. His gaze seemed to get lost in some unknown spot to the older man's eyes, then he looked up until he made eye contact with Rayleigh. "There's something about that boy... I don't know exactly, Rayleigh-san, but I think he truly can bring a change to the pirate era and the world in general, as the captain wanted so badly." Still with his hand on his left shoulder, he stiffened his features. "I've staked the new era on him... And handed him my cherished hat."
Rayleigh was processing it all. The undertone in the brat's words left him stunned, thinking a bit. The new era was near and Shanks wouldn't risk his life for just anyone. "If you bet on him, then he must be a kid capable of making it."
"I have no doubt of that, Rayleigh-san." Were his words.
Silence reigned between the two, until the elder was compelled to ask, because he believed it was important. Though anyway, if this boy was the one, rumors of his name would soon reach his ears."What's the boy's name?" asked Rayleigh with keen interest.
Shanks smiled to the point of showing his gum, he was grinning proudly. "His name is Monkey D. Luffy, you'll possibly see him coming this way in about ten years."
"Monkey D. Luffy." the older man repeated. He would never forget that name.
"RAYLEIGH!!!"
The man was startled by the shout. He was so absorbed in his own thoughts that he completely forgot the reality around him. He knew a brat capable of making a fuss just by an act of presence... Luffy had arrived.
Rayleigh rose from the ground, ready to greet the little guy. "You've finally arrived, Luffy."
When he turned around he couldn't help but smile wistfully. Luffy looked so different, mature, cheerful, like a boy who had accomplished his goals. Luffy had his hat on and his usual clothes: red shirt revealing a big X, shorts and his characteristic flip-flops. But there was something else, something that reminded him so much of Roger. A vermilion cape surrounded by designs that varied between colors like silver, gold and yellow, rested on the boy's slender shoulders. It gave him a powerful and elegant touch, like the aura of a true king.
Already standing closer, the boy's vigorous voice again echoed throughout the place. "Rayleigh! I've finally made it! And I'm here to thank you!"
The major ran his fingers along the rims of his eyes, to gather the threatening tears that hinted at their exit.
"I knew you'd make it to the top, Luffy, I'm happy for you. By the way, that cape looks great on you, Pirate King."
The smile Rayleigh received in response was beautiful, it was like witnessing a thousand bright suns, illuminating everything precisely for him. Luffy's bright smile.
"Shishishishi. Nami and Robin picked it out for me, they told me the cape matches me." Luffy laughed. He stretched out his rubber arms and wrapped them around Rayleigh's torso. "Really thank you, Rayleigh. You were very helpful in getting me to where I am. Thank you." He guffawed again, then melted completely into an embrace that the older man was quick to reciprocate. There were no tears, but smiles accompanied by nostalgia. So much road traveled...
They stood for a while sharing words, until Rayleigh decided to return to his usual place, only this time he remained standing looking off into the distance. He let out a sigh. He looked at the bottle lying in his hands and slowly mashed the contents. "Want some, Luffy?" He offered holding out the bottle to him. The little guy stuck his tongue out and denied.
"You know I don't drink, Rayleigh, but thanks." He replied smiling. The older one nodded, he always knew Luffy didn't drink, but he liked to tease him.
"Hahahahahaha! Right, right! I forgot you don't drink, brat." He said in an annoyed tone. Within seconds the contents were filling his palate.
Luffy growled. "I'm not a brat!"
"You're still a brat to me!" He blurted out with a chuckle. Those words seemed so familiar. And he paused to watch Luffy, who stood with a frown on his face and his arms crossed, pouting. Repeating words like "I'm not a brat, you old idiot" or "I'm the king of pirates and I prefer juice, not sake" and the reproaches went on, identical to a certain redhead...
The elder decided it was time to stop with the nagging. He preferred to engage in conversation.
"It's been a few months full of surprises, Luffy." he began to speak.
The pirate nodded like a little boy. "Aa.. Aa."
"You and your crew have done great things. By the way, where did you leave them?" he asked curiously, taking another drink.
"Ah, they went to have fun. Usopp, Chopper and Brook went to the park." He started listing off on his fingers. "Nami said she needed some new clothes and Robin wanted to stop by some book store. As you know, Franky needs cola to keep his energy up, so he went to buy cola. Sanji said he needed to relax by looking at women and Zoro... Uhmmm, I think he stayed on the ship." He finished his explanation with a hand on his chin and a raised eyebrow, by way of confusion, since he couldn't remember if Zoro was on the ship or not. "Well, whatever, that's about it... Shishishishi."
"I see..." Rayleigh whispered. "And you? I'm surprised you didn't go to the amusement park or get food before stopping by to see me, Luffy... Knowing you, you'd wipe out the food stalls." He commented jocularly.
"The food and the park can wait, I wanted to see you first. Shishishi." he placed a finger under his nose and laughed, like a child when bragging about some prank.
Rayleigh nodded again. He felt Luffy a little uneasy and that had him uncomfortable. His brain sort of "clicked" as he remembered something. "Luffy..." he thought. With the corner of his eye he watched the little guy who was smiling at nothing in particular. The older one sighed. No doubt the last few months must have been difficult for the little pirate, due to the alarming news about Shanks' death it was safe to assume that Luffy wasn't having a good time at all. There was also the fact that the young man dreamed of being reunited with the red-haired man. Given the circumstances, it was evidently obvious that the little boy could never see Shanks again, at least not alive...
He wasn't sure if it was good to inquire, but he didn't stop his lips the moment he asked the question.
"Luffy, you look a little uneasy... Are you feeling really well?" he asked as one who has no idea of the matter but is aware of it.
A few long minutes flowed, until the rubber boy's smile faded. He bowed his little head and pursed his lips. An emotionless chuckle erupted from his throat. "I couldn't make it in time... Being the king wasn't enough to save him. Hugs and praise aren't enough to make me feel better, congratulations just aren't enough..." like a broken murmur, that's what his voice sounded like. The elder refrained from saying anything, he would allow the boy to be able to speak fluently, freely. He simply kept his eyes on the drink in his bottle, listening intently to the little pirate.
Luffy drew the hat up to his chest, and squeezed it so hard, his hands turned white from the pressure exerted. "Hey, Rayleigh..."
The major turned to look at Luffy. "What's wrong, Luffy?" he inquired, noticing the young man's blank stare.
"Do you think he was proud of me?" he whispered mournfully.
Luffy had made it. He grew stronger and overcame the pirates who were also after the One Piece. He finally became King of the Pirates. What he had been in charge of shouting to the four winds since he was a kid, what many saw as an impossible wish or dream, Luffy had made it come true. He fulfilled his dream and yet, he remained with a lost look, an annoying and constant feeling in his chest, and his heart was broken. The young man, barely twenty years old, kept the straw hat -that identified him so much- pressed on his chest. You could notice the wear and damage to the hat, accurate proof of all the battles in which Luffy was the protagonist, some he won, some he lost, from all he learned. But it was still there.
Then Rayleigh understood immediately. Luffy didn't want to hear cries of joy, neither did he want to receive any more hugs or praise; in fact, the young man had had enough of congratulations. To be the Pirate King? That was cool! It always looked great from the boy's eyes, from that other perspective becoming the king was too cool.
But now?
Luffy didn't see it as too cool. And Rayleigh knew it.
The young pirate wanted to receive praise, hugs, cries, he wanted to share his happiness! And maybe it may sound very selfish, but there was one specific person he wanted to brag to and celebrate his triumph. But that person was gone! And Luffy hates that, how was he supposed to deal with that?
He lost Ace once. And fuck, Luffy felt dead in life. He thought living was meaningless
He fell apart.
He was broken. He was shattered.
At that time the young man, barely seventeen years old, was confronted with reality. Reality strolled in front of his eyes, taunting him. The young man who thought he was invincible, came face to face with enemies who outstripped him in strength and prevented him from saving his brother. It frustrated him so much. And at the end of so much effort, Ace died.
Luffy faced reality. He savored it as a bitter pill that he did not want and was forced to take.
He was broken and shattered. He thought it would never ever come back together. But there was Jinbei. He picked him up, slowly and painfully put him back together, with words that fell like a bucket of ice water, though in the end, they were the words he needed all along, the words that made him wake up.
Then what Luffy once thought impossible, emerged. The pieces he thought irreparable, came together in time. First Jinbei, then Rayleigh and Hancock, and finally, after two years, his nakamas. They all contributed to putting Luffy's broken pieces together. It filled him up. And he was so grateful for it, silently.
Now, Luffy was aware that the world of piracy, the life he chose, was not full of adventures for children. He knew from the moment he chose to be a pirate that, dying was one of the most certain things that could happen to him; that is what the fights he underwent, what the road to being the freest man in the world entailed. Of course, he would fight with all his might for it not to be so until he achieved his goal. He succeeded, so far he remained alive. But then why did he find it hard to accept reality from the other side?
The people he loved and admired were also pirates like him! So why... why was it hard to accept that?
No one had ever prepared him in advance for Ace's death. He witnessed it with his eyes, welcoming it in a swoop, why should the same thing happen again?
People die, yes, but that simply wasn't fair...
The person he admired most, to whom he owed so much, even his life. The man who motivated him and shaped his dream of being a pirate, was no longer breathing the same air as him.
Shanks was no longer alive...
And Luffy screams inside in pain. He fades, falls and forces himself to get up, to keep walking. He forces himself to continue sailing seas he knows Shanks will never sail again. He forces himself to stay on the edge of sanity, suffering horrible, constant agony. And it drives him mad.
He looks at Rayleigh, pleading, lost.
Luffy needs him.
He needs Rayleigh to tell him what he wants to hear, but he also needs to see reality. He clutches his hands to the hat, and as if his life depended on it, he pulls it closer to his chest.
The major looks at him, analyzes him. With those penetrating and wise eyes of a man who has lived for more than five decades. A look that carries experience and has been through so much. With a look Rayleigh wants to tell Luffy so much. He understands him perfectly, he understands his feelings. Although he knows that a look won't be enough for the young pirate. Luffy wants more, he wants more than just a look.
Then, after what seemed like an eternity, the major pushed himself to speak.
"He knew you'd make it from the moment he bet on you, Luffy."
Rayleigh truly believed that, which Shanks also believed. His lips not only released the words Luffy needed to hear.
The younger man's posture tensed. He searched with noticeable desperation for something more in the eyes of the man who for a time became his mentor. And it didn't work.
This time comfort or simple words would not be enough for the boy. Rayleigh knew that. Shit, he was never good in situations like this. He even got to be hard on himself when he lost people who took an important role in his life. Roger was one of them. He cried at the time, yes. But it was never in his plans to seek comfort in others, as a grown man and by then, second hand to the pirate king, Rayleigh was adamant to think with a hard head. He made the hard decision to accept life's changes. Because that's just the way it is. Everything happens for a reason and some things are just meant to be. No one can change that.
Then, after such a long time of those miserable and to the boy's horror, feelings he already knew perfectly, Luffy let himself fall. There in front of Rayleigh, his legs faltered and his knees soon touched the ground. The hat pressed against his chest, as a vain attempt to calm the suffering that was soaking him.
Luffy wept.
The tears fell desperately...one after another on her pale cheeks, like a raging waterfall. He cried and screamed so much, broke down so much, that he had no strength in his being for anything else.
Rayleigh let him break down. Having a faint memory of the first time he witnessed in Sabaody how the boy had lost each of his nakamas, one after another had been taken from him in a very cruel way by the Shichibukai Kuma. Sadly none of them could do much by then, Rayleigh was left to trust that the boy would survive. And as a help, he had only been able to stop with his vague power (product of the years), the admiral. But that did nothing to improve the boy's future emotional state.
It was too weird to see Luffy in that state. Because let's face it, no one would think that such a cheerful guy with energy as vibrant as the sun could become so dull. So, Rayleigh feels a strange pressure in his chest that dazes him. Luffy is light and the world needs that light that only the boy can provide, no one else.
Rayleigh looks at him and walks over. "It's okay to cry, Luffy" he tries to tell him. The young pirate was there, showing him his weak side. Suffering a loss that hurts both of them, but it is Luffy that hurts the most. It is there when Luffy is not in sight of his nakamas that, he allows himself to show his weak side completely, to scream, to cry, to break down. He then goes to Rayleigh to ask for comfort being the least indicated to give him that. However, the man appreciates that.
Rayleigh comes close enough and places one of his hands on the young man's tousled hair as a consolation. He is silent, as he listens to his former apprentice cry. He says nothing, but his silence and companionship speak volumes. Luffy knows that.
Luffy fades away.
And Rayleigh silently comforts him.
But it is time that has the task of healing the wound of his broken heart.
Btw, Blue Island is an invention of mine, although it's to be expected. xd
